Patrick McClintock was arrested for allegedly hurling an antisemitic comment at Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy as he filmed a pizza review. But should he have been? Are the charges trumped up to avoid a black eye?
STARKVILLE, Miss. — A Mississippi State University student has been arrested and charged with disturbing the peace following an incident over the weekend involving Dave Portnoy, founder and owner of Barstool Sports. Portnoy was recording a "One Bite" pizza review outside a Starkville restaurant on Nov. 7, when someone made an antisemitic comment and threw coins at him. In this powerful and deeply human episode of I'm an Artist, Not a Salesman, host Luis Guzman sits down with a returning guest who's more than just a local legend—he's a living symbol of resilience, authenticity, and craftsmanship. Meet Al Santillo, the owner of Santillo's Brick Oven Pizza in Elizabeth, New Jersey, a family business with over a century of history and flavor baked into every slice.Al's story has everything: generational legacy, loss, community redemption, and the unwavering pursuit of mastery. Earlier this year, a devastating fire tore through Santillo's beloved pizzeria, threatening to end a business that had become both a cultural landmark and a culinary icon. But where many would have folded, Al got to work. And in this episode, he shares exactly what it took to rebuild—not just the physical space, but the spirit behind the oven. From his old-school bread route days as a 7-year-old hustling loaves door to door, to hospital stays and near-death experiences, Al opens up like never before. He walks us through the fire on January 6th, the aftermath, and how the community—including Barstool's Dave Portnoy—stepped up in an incredible way to support him. Portnoy's viral pizza reviews and emergency fundraiser campaign gave Santillo's a second chance, but it's Al's grit, wisdom, and work ethic that make this comeback story unforgettable. In this episode, we dive into:How Santillo's Pizza became a national treasure through word-of-mouth and artisan-level qualityThe brutal reality of zoning laws, insurance headaches, and rebuilding a historic oven brick by brickWhy every bite of his pizza tastes different—and why that matters to people who care about foodAl's reflections on work ethic, discipline, and what his father taught him about worry and purposeHis time in the Air Force, how military service shaped his mindset, and why legacy matters more than everHow modern tech (from Instagram to exhaust fan specs) is shaping old-world businesses in new waysWhether you're a creative, a business owner, a foodie, or someone navigating your own comeback, this conversation will resonate deeply. Al's philosophy is simple but powerful: “Pizza is my art. I make it, you like it, and that's it.” But behind that simplicity is a lifetime of sacrifice, hard-earned lessons, and deep roots in a way of life that's becoming increasingly rare. You'll also hear wild dream sequences from his post-surgery recovery, insights into artisan pizza techniques, and stories that span generations—from door-to-door bread deliveries in the ‘60s to the city council meetings of today. Al doesn't hold back. His words are unfiltered, thoughtful, and often funny in that classic Jersey way. You'll come for the pizza lore—but you'll stay for the soul.If you've ever wondered what it takes to keep a small business alive for three generations, this episode is your blueprint. It's also a masterclass in humility, resilience, and what it means to truly love your work. Al Santillo isn't just making pizza—he's preserving a culture, a community, and a way of doing business that doesn't cut corners or chase trends. And we need more of that in the world.Like what you heard? Here's how you can stay connected:Follow the podcast: Subscribe to I'm an Artist, Not a Salesman on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you listen.Leave a review: Your feedback helps us grow and bring on more incredible guests like Al Santillo.Follow Luis Guzman: Keep up with Luis and future episodes by following him on Instagram and LinkedIn.Want to support Santillo's Pizza? In this episode, Joe Moore talks with Megan Portnoy, a doctoral candidate in clinical psychology at Antioch University New England, about how ontological design can reshape the environments used in psychedelic-assisted therapy. Megan explains how physical space is not just a backdrop but an active participant in the therapeutic process, influencing emotion, cognition, and healing. She recently won an award for her presentation on this topic at PsychedelX. They explore how design principles that foster awe, play, and flexibility can deepen integration and expand what's possible in clinical settings. The conversation also examines how psychedelic communities can balance openness with discernment, apply more psychological rigor, and avoid falling into ungrounded or high-demand group dynamics. This rich discussion bridges psychology, philosophy, design, and culture—inviting us to think critically about not only how we use psychedelics, but the spaces, systems, and stories that shape our collective evolution.

In his literary biography, Philip Roth: Stung by Life (Yale UP, 2025), Steven J. Zipperstein captures the complex life and astonishing work of Philip Roth (1933–2018), one of America's most celebrated writers. Born in Newark, New Jersey—where his short stories and books were often set—Roth wrote with ambition and awareness of what was required to produce great literature. No writer was more dedicated to his craft, even as he was rubbing shoulders with the Kennedys and engaging in a spate of famous and infamous romances. And yet, as much as Roth wrote about sex and self, he viewed himself as socially withdrawn, living much like an “unchaste monk” (his words). Zipperstein explores the unprecedented range of Roth's work—from “Goodbye, Columbus” and Portnoy's Complaint to the Pulitzer Prize–winning American Pastoral and The Plot Against America. Drawing on extensive archival materials and over one hundred interviews, including conversations with Roth about his life and work, Zipperstein provides an intimate and insightful look at one of the twentieth century's most influential writers, placing his work in the context of his obsessions, as well as American Jewishness, freedom, and sexuality. Interviewee: Steven J. Zipperstein is the Daniel E. Koshland Professor in Jewish Culture and History at Stanford University. Host: Schneur Zalman Newfield is an Associate Professor of Sociology and Jewish Studies at Hunter College, City University of New York, and the author of Degrees of Separation: Identity Formation While Leaving Ultra-Orthodox Judaism (Temple University Press). Happy Labor Day! Today on "Fearless," we have a fast-paced show, with Jason bringing the heat, as always. Arch Manning is getting slandered across social media, with Shedeur Sanders' supporters leading the way? Whitlock brings receipts reminding that Shedeur also scuffled in big road games. After that, Jason explores Coach Prime's poor clock management, wasting valuable timen and keeping time-outs in his pocket as Colorado lost its season opener to Georgia Tech. Deion foolishly attempted to defend his mismanagement. Whitlock calls him out on it. Lee Corso was honored during his final "College GameDay" as a pioneer and galvanizing force for what became a college football tradition. Dave Portnoy's first appearance on "Big Noon Kickoff" had all the elements of a WWE sideshow. Corso has the credentials; Dave Portnoy is a degenerate gambler. Wrapping the show, Whitlock reviews Alabama's loss to Florida State. What does this mean for Alabama? Is this the result of zesty Ryan Williams failing to perform in another big game? Would Nick Saban return to Alabama? Is Jon Gruden a candidate? Many questions abound in Tuscaloosa, and Jason provides answers. Buckle up! It's going to be a great show! Another Craft Brewed Sports episode loaded with chaos
Newest "Last Word on Sports Media Podcast" returns with co-hosts T.J. Rives and Mike Gill. They have many takes on subjects like:College Football is BACK- Did Ohio St. try to ban David Portnoy of Barstool Sports from being in their stadium Saturday for Fox "Big Noon Kickoff" or not? The boys have theories.- Both pregame shows, including "College Gameday" on ESPN will be in Columbus for Texas at Buckeyes. Legend Lee Corso's final live show.- Dublin, Ireland CFB opener lost 20% audience on ESPN Saturday for Iowa State-Kansas State (4 mil avg). Still that won Saturday in the ratings.Meanwhile, Youtube TV and Fox (Newscorp) are in a carriage dispute with deadline looming Wednesday 5 p.m. Will subscribers lose out on seeing CFB, MLB etc this weekend? Bigger if Fox News is dropped, too!MLB settles on it's revamped TV packages- NBC getting Friday/Sunday and the Wildcard games for reportedly $200 mil per year. ESPN stays in for select weekday MLB games, purchase of MLB.TV for local/regional broadcasts and keeping basically unlimited use of highlights, etc. for $1.4 Billion over 3 years. Netflix got Home Run Derby at the All Star Game for reported $35 million. Also, NBC concludes golf season with Fed Ex Cup finale' in Atlanta with another HUGE (relative) audience number of over 4 million average (up 20% over last year). The Ryder Cup (USA vs. Europe) looms in late September on NBC, too.U.S. Open Tennis EVERYWHERE on ESPN/ABC platforms but does this country really care anymore? And, what about the Little League World Series and "overkill" there?Hear it all on the "LWOS Media Podcast" and make sure that you are subscribed on Apple/Spreaker/Spotify, etc.
YouTube TV tries to play hardball with FOX ahgead of the football season and Ohio State bans David Portnoy from The Horseshoe ahead of his Big Noon Kickoff debut, all petty actions that help FOX. Happy Tuesday! Timmy eats ghost peppers, Taylor & Travis get engaged, Browns trade a QB, we chat about OSU banning Portnoy, we go Inside the Buckeyes, we recap the Ryan Day presser, the Computers like the Buckeyes, we chat about beer prices at NFL stadiums, Man & Michael Jordan are similar & we do Rapid Fire.
It was reported Tuesday night that Ohio State banned Dave Portnoy from their stadium. The Barstool Sports owner is joining Fox's pregame show "Big Noon Kickoff" this season; a show that ends inside the stadium of the game it is previewing, before kickoff. It was assumed, by the public, that Portnoy would be among the pregame crew in the stadium each week. The show for Week 1 is at Ohio State, which would create an issue if part of the pregame crew could not end the show in the stadium. It now appears the report of this ban from Ohio State may not be completely accurate. As our own Ross Dellenger reports, Portnoy not being allowed in the stadium is due to more than just Ohio State having a problem with Portnoy. Ross, Andy Staples and Steven Godfrey explain what is really going on behind the scenes.Later in the show, the SEC recently announced it will shift its conference schedule to nine games starting in 2026. Among these nine games will be three "annual" games for each school. Andy, Ross and Steven discuss how the conference goes about determining what these "annual" games are, how this will affect the schools and how this shift may affect the SEC.Finally, we are just a few days away from the start of Week 1 of the college football season! A week that will see a lot of intriguing matchups, including Baylor visiting Auburn on Friday night. Ross recently sat down with Baylor head coach Dave Aranda to discuss the upcoming season. Aranda spoke about what is different with Baylor this year and the changes Baylor has made in NIL. From not playing ball in the NIL space to jumping in with the rest of the country, this switch could prove to make a huge difference in Waco. We are counting the hours until Week 1 kicks-off. Until then, join us on College Football Enquirer. (1:23) - Dave Portnoy's Ohio State ban(29:47) - The SEC moves to a 9-game conference schedule(48:25) - Baylor and Dave Aranda's evolution Subscribe to the College Football Enquirer on your favorite podcast app:
The guys discuss the news regarding Ohio State and Dave Portnoy, also asking if you'll tune into CFB pregame shows because of the presence of Portnoy for FOX and Pat McAfee for ESPN.
In this episode of the Buckeye Weekly Podcast, Tony Gerdeman and Tom Orr discuss the recent dust-up between FOX, Ohio State, and Dave Portnoy. Did Ohio State overstep their bounds? Was this all a big nothing? Is it somewhere in between?
Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, a loud and proud Michigan fan, was brought on by Fox for its Big Noon Kickoff show ahead of Ohio State's season opener against Texas. But while the show will broadcast live from Columbus, Ohio State denied Portnoy access to the stadium, aiming to keep the rivalry-fueled drama off the field—even if it's still loud on TV.Show Sponsored by NEBCOOur Sponsors:* Check out Hims: https://hims.com/EARLYBREAKAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
