This conversation is based on a sermon titled, "You Gotta Have Faith," from Luke 19:11-27.
Luke 19:11-2711 As they heard these things, he proceeded to tell a parable, because he was near to Jerusalem, and because they supposed that the kingdom of God was to appear immediately. 12He said therefore, “A nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom and then return.13 Calling ten of his servants, he gave them ten minas, and said to them, ‘Engage in business until I come.'14 But his citizens hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We do not want this man to reign over us.' 15 When he returned, having received the kingdom, he ordered these servants to whom he had given the money to be called to him, that he might know what they had gained by doing business. 16 The first came before him, saying, ‘Lord, your mina has made ten minas more.' 17And he said to him, ‘Well done, good servant! Because you have been faithful in a very little, you shall have authority over ten cities.' 18And the second came, saying, ‘Lord, your mina has made five minas.' 19 And he said to him, ‘And you are to be over five cities.' 20Then another came, saying, ‘Lord, here is your mina, which I kept laid away in a handkerchief; 21 for I was afraid of you, because you are a severe man. You take what you did not deposit, and reap what you did not sow.' 22He said to him, ‘I will condemn you with your own words, you wicked servant! You knew that I was a severe man, taking what I did not deposit and reaping what I did not sow? 23 Why then did you not put my money in the bank, and at my coming I might have collected it with interest?' 24 And he said to those who stood by, ‘Take the mina from him, and give it to the one who has the ten minas.' 25And they said to him, ‘Lord, he has ten minas!' 26 ‘I tell you that to everyone who has, more will be given, but from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away. 27But as for these enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slaughter them before me.'” Sermon Questions:1. What are some things God has gifted to you in your life? What changes when you see them as gifts?2. What often leads the way in your 'doing business' with the world? e.g. reputation, experience, intelect, etc.3. How can you gengage the world with Jesus held out front?4. Where have you been 'sitting on' the gift of Jesus? Why?5. How does living faithfully change if it's not about you doing 'all the things' for Jesus but instead about being with Jesus?

June 25, 2023 -- "You Gotta Have Faith" -- Pastor Kyle Blake, Bible Text: Romans 4:13-25: 13 So it was not by obeying the laws in Moses' Teachings that Abraham or his descendants received the promise that he would inherit the world. Rather, he received this promise through God's approval that comes by faith. 14 If those who obey Moses' Teachings are the heirs, then faith is useless and the promise is worthless. 15 The laws in Moses' Teachings bring about anger. But where those laws don't exist, they can't be broken. 16 Therefore, the promise is based on faith so that it can be a gift.[a] Consequently, the promise is guaranteed for every descendant, not only for those who are descendants by obeying Moses' Teachings but also for those who are descendants by believing as Abraham did. He is the father of all of us, 17 as Scripture says: “I have made you a father of many nations." Abraham believed when he stood in the presence of the God who gives life to dead people and calls into existence things that don't even exist. 18 When there was nothing left to hope for, Abraham still hoped and believed. As a result, he became a father of many nations, as he had been told: “That is how many descendants you will have.” 19 Abraham didn't weaken. Through faith he regarded the facts: His body was already as good as dead now that he was about a hundred years old, and Sarah was unable to have children. 20 He didn't doubt God's promise out of a lack of faith. Instead, giving honor to God ⌞for the promise⌟, he became strong because of faith 21 and was absolutely confident that God would do what he promised. 22 That is why Abraham's faith was regarded as the basis of his approval by God. 23 But the words “his faith was regarded as the basis of his approval by God” were written not only for him 24 but also for us. Our faith will be regarded as the basis of our approval by God—each of us who believe in the one who brought Jesus, our Lord, back to life. 25 Jesus, our Lord, was handed over to death because of our failures and was brought back to life so that we could receive God's approval. How important is it to forgive? How important is it to hear "I forgive you"? Are those words "I forgive you" healing words, or is it all in the mind? In this first episode of You Gotta Have Faith on Youtube, I examine 1 John 1: 9 (which talks of asking for forgiveness); Ephesians 4: 31-32 (which talks of forgiving someone); and Matthew 6:14-15, which talks about forgiveness as a crucial element of being a Christian. I introduce Assumi Suli, a missionary from Nagaland, India, as my new co-host and she talks about Nagaland, her faith in Christianity and her thoughts on how important it is to forgive and to be forgiven.

This is a VERY quick Faith podcast, with only me (Craig is working and Deb has the cold). I just wanted to wish everyone listening to Faith a wonderful holiday season, whether you're celebrating Christmas, Kwanzaa, or just finished celebrating Hanukkah. I briefly read Matthew 1: 22-23, which echoes Luke 2: 4-14 - basically, the gift God has given to us - the birth of baby Jesus. Think of a baby - pure, clean, lacking any evil thoughts and harboring no bitterness. If we could all have that same type of peace - even for just one moment - the world would be a better place. From all of us to all of you, Happy Holidays. And thank you for supporting You Gotta Have Faith.

Episode 43: Encouraging Each Other (1 Thessalonians 5: 11) by You Gotta Have Faith
The last couple weeks we have looked, inwardly, at the intent of our hearts. Where is our treasure? What are you worried about? And this week we are doing a major shift from looking at ourselves to looking at those around us. Luke 5:17-26 Today we are looking at “The Faith of the Centurion” which is recorded in Matthew and Luke.I would encourage you to look at them and study them for yourselves. It will enrich your appreciation of the fullness that can be found in Scripture. Matthew 8:5-13; Luke 7:1-10 So right off we see that in Luke’s passage Jesus speaks to a delegation, where Matthew records Him speaking only to the centurion. We also have Jesus saying more to one crowd in one account than another. So why the discrepancies? The answer is there really are none. And we see this when Matthew warns of the “subjects of the kingdom” who will miss out of the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. But the subjects of the kingdom will be thrown outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth So, how could they be so different but still so true? There was centurion, he did talk to Jesus and Jesus was amazed by his faith. We should go to Jesus ourselves (in prayer) and exercise the same kind of faith the Centurion did. This Roman Centurion was asking for something for someone besides himself. And he was asking… IN FAITH!! He believed in and had faith in Jesus Christ for a miracle! Do you have that today? Have you experienced that lately? Do we have miracle working faith? Do we have the kind of faith that amazes Jesus? Hebrews 13:8 If Jesus can marvel, and take action, at a Centurion’s faith yesterday, can He marvel and take action at our faith today? And if He marvels and takes action at our faith today, can we not count on Him to marvel and take action in the days, weeks, months and even years to come?Yes! And Yes! You want to see miracles happen? You Gotta Have Faith!! Simple. Childlike. Unquestioning. Faith!
"You Gotta Have Faith"
On this episode of You Gotta Have Faith, Craig and I discuss the complexities of Forgiveness - we dive into Matthew 18, where Jesus shares to his disciples about the parable of the Master and Servant - the servant that fails to forgive (the way his master forgave him) faces a harsh punishment. We touch on why we hold on to grudges, how just saying "I forgive you" isn't enough and we share our own personal dealings with forgiveness. Give us feedback on what you think of this podcast. (PS I misquoted Dr. King - his quote is "if you DON'T believe in something, you'll fall for anything)
