Godfather 3 stormy kitchen ambience — “Just When I Thought I Was Out, They Pull Me Back In!” We're back at the movies and in a kitchen after a bloody helicopter attack. It's stormy, and dinner is happening, and everything feels tense because everyone almost just died (this scene).I am a Godfather 3 apologist. Aside from how awesome the sound design is in this and the other trilogy films, I love the exploration of a man who tries to emancipate himself from his own cruel and ruthless past. Especially when we are talking about a man who is one the of scariest characters in film.Yes, Godfather Part III feels like the Godfather movie Brian De Palma secretly made… Yes it is a tremendous jump from the cold and cunning Michael to suburbanite-ish Michael. These movies are horror films, they invite us into some pretty grim places. A missteps here could lead to a grisly end. You might go for a fishing trip in the fading sunlight when a gun appears from off screen. Beautifully wrapped pastries are dangerous. Somehow toll booths can become more sinister. Someone in the trilogy winds up sleeping with a disembodied horse head.Who do you even root for in the Altobello v. Connie v. cannoli?Psh—why am I even getting apologist? I love Godfather Part III and not just because of that Mobb Deep banger. This week I had my own “they're pulling me back in” moment after having a copy/ paste issue between Premiere and After Effects (CC2025). Having long ago worked in tech support for non-linear editing compositors, I suddenly found myself back trying to diagnose my own issue. Because Adobe does not give a ****.Adobe has created a bubble for themselves, they can make drastic changes in program behaviors, and unless you have some special tiered support package you will have no way of contacting these ******** but for a Lord of the Flies reddit wannabe where users answer questions for digital badges. I'm mixing my movie metaphors—Adobe Community… let the fans sort it out for themselves like Mary and Vincent? Actually strike that too. ZAAAAAASAAAAAA

So, we've journeyed through The Godfather series, and now we're at the infamous third instalment, Godfather Part III. If you've been following us, you already know the deal with the first two masterpieces. If not, give those episodes a listen—they're a total treat! Anyway, some see the third flick as a bit of a black sheep, but there's still so much to discuss and appreciate here. We've got Joe, our go-to American for all things cinema, sharing his unrivalled insights. Dom is bringing the Cockney charm as our so-called 'Vatican banker', with a cheeky nod to some rhyming slang. And then there's me, Charlie, maybe hosting solo or perhaps just playing the Podfather's apprentice. This episode dives into all the juicy bits, like the controversial role of the Church, some epic scenes that might've been missed, and whether Al Pacino really nailed his role as Michael this time. And, because we've always gotta throw in a sprinkle of trivia, there's talk about what nearly was—like, could we have seen a very different story with Robert Duvall? We cap it off with our rare episode of friendly disagreements—did the film stick the landing, or did it trip over its own legacy? Listen in and find out if the Godfather saga goes out with a bang or just a whimper. Whatever you think, make sure you hit subscribe and leave us a nice review!
In this episode, we break down The Godfather Part III and explain why it falls short of its predecessors. We discuss the film's missteps, including issues with the plot, pacing, and character development. Tread Perilously's 1980s flashback months leads them, finally, to Silver Spoons with an episode called "A Family Affair." When Ricky meets Jeannie -- who goes to the nearby all-girls school -- at the local hangout, he discovers that she's pretty rad. Soon, she becomes his prom date. Meanwhile, Edward, Kate, and Dexter Stuffins face the threat of a strike at the toy factory. But when Ricky and Jeannie get into an argument, he calls off the prom date only for Dexter to tell Edward that her father might be mobbed up. And when her father comes around to the house, Edward faces a difficult decision. Erik and Justin almost immediately make their way into a '90s flashback. Erik also declares Dexter Stuffins to be one of the great names in '80s TV. It leads to a lot of praise for actor Franklyn Seales. A wild Alfonso Ribeiro appears. Justin mentions his fixation on Erin Gray. A bevy of guest stars leads to conversations of '80s bands, underrated actors, an old Tread Perilously favorite, and the best Star Wars knock-off. The pair try to figure out why '80s sitcoms still have soda shops. Erik ends up in a Godfather Part III rabbit hole and John Houseman gets referenced despite not being in the episode.
Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather and The Godfather Part II are cinematic masterpieces. And 1990's The Godfather Part III is viewed by most as the cinematic red-headed step child that lives in your attic eating fish heads. But does this movie deserve all the hate? And after 35 years does this greek tragedy of an epilogue about a family of gangsters deserve another look? We're here to answer today if The Godfather Part III is really that awful. Send us a Text Message.Just when we thought we were out. The boys get a chip on their shoulder this week, defending this often maligned finale. By today's standards this movie could easily sweep the Oscars, but back then, a bunch of film school drop-outs had a serious case of sour grapes and the rest was history. We suppose they practiced trolling Sophia Coppola to later refine their skills for the likes of Jake Lloyd and Ahmed Best.Regardless, the Godfather quotes fly furiously, and we finally read some mail only to realize that our fanbase is moderately disturbed (in a good way).
A song about walking that I missed, more bullshit from Silicon Valley, the tragedy of Buca di Beppo, a cross eyed waiter, dreaming with Ryan Reynolds, getting trapped with M. Night Shyamalan, post-vacation depression, a couple of Starmen, the perils of driving a stick shift in San Francisco, changing gears in real life, a made up movie about pinball and love, a couple devastatingly great songs, a satanic seventy-six trombones, and my attempt at an Italian giallo song. Actor Andy Garcia is someone who loves everything about food. Cooking it, shopping for it, talking about it. And that might be a surprise to some, because Andy Garcia is more known for his roles in iconic films such as The Untouchables, When a Man Loves a Woman, Ocean's 11 and, of course, The Godfather Part III. But Andy was born into a different life and a different culture in Havana, Cuba. His family escaped Fidel Castro's regime with Andy and his two siblings in tow to join a community of Cuban exiles in Miami. It was in Florida that Andy first remembers falling in love with his native Cuban cuisine, often cooked by his grandmother. Andy discusses all of that, as well as his Cuban-inspired chicken fricassee that he makes when he is looking for that special taste of home. Hosted on Acast. On this episode of Our American Stories, it's a well-known bit of movie trivia that all 5 films in which actor John Cazale appeared were nominated for Best Picture, and three of them received the Oscar. Further, he appeared posthumously in archival footage in The Godfather Part III, which was also nominated for Best Picture, maintaining his perfect record. He is the only actor in history to have this distinction. John Cazale played one of the most iconic characters in film history: Fredo Corleone from The Godfather. Yet today, most people don't even know his name. Here to tell this story is Jonjo Powers, author of A Small Perfection: John Cazale and the Art of Acting. We accepted our punishment and have reached the end. Again. And again. Our reexamination of the black sheep of highly respected film trilogies (okay maybe not GHOSTBUSTERS) has reached its unnatural conclusion as we kick THE GODFATHER PART III, SCREAM 3 and GHOSTBUSTERS (2016) one last time while they are down... and have a pretty good time doing it. This may be our coldest take in a medium that demands something spicy and controversial. What can we say? We think these three movies still stink. Enjoy! The writer and podcaster David Moscrop, a contributing columnist for the Washington Post, returns to the pod from Ottawa to discuss a Spooky Season classic, Francis Ford Coppola's lavish adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula, a film that turned 30 years old this year but like a vampire has barely aged a day. Coppola followed up The Godfather Part III with an ambitious gothic horror with an all-star cast, filmed entirely indoors on sets and soundstages. His visual effects supervisor was his son Roman Coppola, and they decided use techniques from the early days of cinema to adapt a novel from the same period. We discuss the film's “naive visual effects”, the over-the-top aesthetic from sets to costumes to performances, the film's horniness which greatly influenced future vampire stories, and we try to mount a defense for the enduring knock against this film, the mannered turn by Keanu Reeves as Jonathan Harker. Plus: we discuss Ontario Premier Doug Ford trying to weasel out of having to testify at the Emergencies Act inquiry in Ottawa. We question just how much Francis Ford Coppola values family... ...and how little he valued Al Pacino's hair in THE GODFATHER PART III. Or is it The GODFATHER CODA: THE DEATH OF MICHAEL CORLEONE? Take your pick for we remain decidedly unhappy. Or are we happy in our unhappiness with the finale to the Corleone family saga? Because of this and search engine optimization #ReleaseTheSnyderCut gets mentioned and to a lesser extent our shared love of SCREAM 2. Which at least mentions The Godfather sequels. Did I mention that I'm going to see SCREAM 2 the 25th anniversary theatrical showing this weekend? I've earned this. For this represents 100 episodes of TRILOGY IN THEORY. And I also watched THE GODFATHER PART III: CODA: THE DEATH OF MICHAEL CORLEONE: BUT NOT REALLY. It was fun! The belated movie sequel is a terrifying proposition. It starts with a movie you love and ends decades later with broken promises and a disgusting taste in your mouth. Don't believe me? Go watch Caddyshack 2, Dumb and Dumberer, Saturday Night Fever, Return To The Blue Lagoon, Son Of The Mask, Basic Instinct 2, Blues Brothers 2000, Return To Oz, or The Godfather Part III. But none of those movies had the potential to break our hearts more than Top Gun: Maverick. So after years of rumors, development, and delays, the day of judgement has arrived. In a rare departure from our usual programming, Buzzn The Tower will dedicate an entire episode to a movie not made in the 1980s, and no I'm not talking about Point Break. Today on Buzzn The Tower we'll give you our live reaction to Top Gun: Maverick. I'm Mo Shapiro and joining me as always, the disappointing sequel to my blockbuster original, Max Sanders. And with that, talk to me Max!
We all know the third film in The Godfather franchise isn't in the same league as the first two, but does that make it a bad movie? Plagued with a rushed production Francis Ford Coppola somehow managed to make a very decent movie with script he wrote in 6 weeks. Coppola re-edited The Godfather: Part III in 2020 making the new version "The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone." Let's break down both versions.
