You can feel and understand in ways that not everyone can. However, your gift can also be used against you. Something that Emily reminds us of in these powerful quotes.  Emily Mick is a licensed professional counselor and counselor candidate supervisor in private practice. She's passionate about mental health access, normalizing and destigmatizing mental health, and discussing issues related to individual experiences in business, relationships, and life. Emily was the victim of her own physiologically & emotionally abusive relationship with a narcissist. Even as a therapist who knows all the signs, has all the tools and resources to recognize this form of abuse, she struggled to get out of the relationship because of denial, fear of abandonment, and attachment. She was afraid of what would happen if she left. She was fearful of being on her own. And gaslighting from her abusive partner forced her to doubt herself.  Now on the other side, Emily knows she's not the only person to have experienced this. She says how obesity was her greatest curse - one she always felt victim to. It wasn't until one day, that a flight and Rachel Hollis' book, Girl Wash Your Face, changed everything. Kiah realized she had been playing victim to her weight, relationships, and unhappiness when in reality, it wasn't on anyone else but her to start making different choices for herself. This was the catalyst for her to turn her life around, lose 125 lbs, and start life coaching other women on how they could change their lives, too.  As more and more people saw Kiah's transformation, they wanted to know how she did it. They first reached out to her about weight loss, wanting the exact diet and recipe to success. But Kiah quickly realized that it was so much more than that. Angela learned to fight against gaslighting by becoming extremely deliberate in her actions. She made a habit of writing down exactly what she was feeling in those tough moments so that she'd be able to come back to them later. Having it written down removed the chance of her feelings being invalidated. If you're going through something similar, Angela's best advice is to ask for help. You can't do this alone. Allow yourself space to process your emotions. Give yourself 30 minutes a day to break down! Feeling and processing your emotions is a major step to healing. Not every day is great, but eventually, you'll be able to see how worth it that first step was.  Angela is in the works of creating a YouTube channel to support women who have been through abuse! When you think of long-lasting relationships, does the word ‘compromise' come to mind? Katie Harris would say yes, but she would then tell you how she disagrees with the idea of it. Compromise so often looks like one person winning and one person losing. Someone gets what they want, while the other has to suck it up. What if there was a better way?  Katie's parents divorced when she was young. Her mother also struggled with addiction. As a result of the conflict she so often witnessed, she learned to people-please in order to avoid it as much as possible. For years Katie thought of herself as being great at communication. It wasn't until she got married that she realized she was actually just really good at keeping conflict at bay. She had become terrified of conflict and viewed it as relationship ruining.  This was when Katie decided to stop running away. In a field where the number of men FAR outweighs the number of women, Dawn Rohrs has had to learn a lot in order to get to where she is today. For the majority of her career as a Drilling Engineer, being a woman in a field of men hasn't been an issue. The men she works with support her and back her up when she needs it. However, there are times where she's dealt with discrimination - men assuming she must be a man when emailing her, thinking she's the receptionist or the caterer, men refusing to shake her hand, refusing to listen to her in a meeting to the point where they had to have someone translate to get the point across (even though they were all speaking the same language!).  While these occurrences are infuriating, Dawn has learned to shrug them off, largely because it's not worth her energy and she knows she's amazing at her job! Although she admits that when other men learn she's actually the one in charge, it's pretty satisfying to see the look on their faces.  As someone with ADHD, Dawn has also learned how to make this into her strength, rather than her struggle. While there are daily challenges, she loves her unique ability to multitask and remember very specific things. She may get distracted daydreaming, tap her leg, and hyper-focus on certain things... but she firmly believes that her ADHD allows her unique skills and makes her great at all that she does.   Tune in to hear Dawn share on owning your power, finding a seat at a table of men, sharing in your successes, and not letting people define who you're going to be based on what you've been through.    Find Dawn on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/d_rohrs/  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DawnRohrs  Connect with Brandi: https://www.instagram.com/becomingbrandilea/

She has found that this is what so many others need to hear to know that they are not alone and they can get better, too.  Healing from trauma is not linear. Jess has good days and bad days. She held in what had happened to her for a long time. Eventually, she realized she was holding herself back by not verbalizing her trauma. Her healing journey truly began the day she told her husband what had happened to her. Therapy, medication, and a CrossFit gym membership have all played integral parts in her journey as well.   Find Jess on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/becoming_jess/ Blog: https://becomingjess.net/  Connect with Brandi: https://www.instagram.com/becomingbrandilea/
