On this week's Keeping the “Live” in Alive segment of The Debbie Nigro Show, I was joined by my longtime gal pal (though we've never actually met in person!) Linda Arroz, who's on an inspiring new mission in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Linda is helping raise funds for a short social impact film called Awakening Georgie — a powerful narrative about the hidden struggles of traumatic brain injury (TBI) survivors and the miracles that can come from compassion. “Thirty percent of injury-related deaths in the U.S. are caused by a traumatic brain injury. That's a lot. We need to talk about this,” Linda shared passionately. The project is backed by Emmy Award-winning director Jerry Scherer and filmmaker Akiva Penaloza, and it sheds light on a journey many families face but few openly discuss. To make it happen, they've teamed up with CauseMatch, a platform that pairs creators with nonprofits so fundraising becomes not just doable, but also tax-deductible for donors. Linda also spotlighted another story of resilience — the book In the Face of Catastrophe, written by Jennifer Rose Goldman and her mother, after Jennifer suffered a sudden brain bleed just before her 31st birthday. Against all odds, she's fighting her way back, one determined step at a time. Our conversation kept circling back to one big word: compassion. “You'd be surprised how many people just need someone to care,” Linda said. And she's right — sometimes the simplest act of kindness is the miracle someone needs to move forward. As I like to remind everyone when life feels overwhelming: “Get in, get through, and get onward.” And with Linda's work, that message feels more important than ever. Please listen to this short podcast of my live conversation with Linda Arroz on The Debbie Nigro Show. If you can help Linda with her cause - please do.
While visiting patients at a children's hospital last week, a little boy asked who my favorite nurse was during my own hospital stay. It felt a bit like being asked to pick a favorite child, but I shared the story of how one nurse's seemingly simple acts had a mighty impact on my life. The list of extraordinary caregivers at Mercy who helped me survive burns over my entire body is long—Cissy the brilliant charge nurse, Lisa the fiery floor nurse, Roy the visionary man who helped me walk forward, and Delores the lovely CNA with a contagious laugh. But the one I told that boy about last week was Sue Rodrigues. Let me explain.

John Kralik was in a bad place. The LA attorney was generally miserable…divorced again, broke, and living in a dingy apartment with no air conditioning. He was also struggling to pay his employees because clients wouldn't pay him. Not exactly glamorous, but then John did an amazing thing. He decided he would concentrate on things to be grateful for, and follow that up with writing a thank you note every day for an entire year.Over time, and not too slowly actually, John's life began to improve. Life looked good again. One of the greatest outcomes has been the influence he's had on others. His book, “A Simple Act of Gratitude: How Learning To Say Thank You Changed My Life” sold like crazy. He said that the year-long thank you notes helped him prioritize good things, and helped him focus on that.John also has noticed a really interesting thing. A person's natural tendency is to focus on nine things that go wrong. Yet what would happen if we focused instead on even a single good thing? He understands that we all can help each other. Rising tide lifts all boats, as they say. Just as we can help others form the discipline of gratitude, they can be our accountability in a very real way.Every day we can text, email, call, or otherwise communicate to friends and family things that we're grateful for. In turn, we can receive their good reports. Colossians 3:15 says, “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts to which indeed you were called in one body and be thankful.”Whether it's a community of believers or simply the wider culture, we can help each other every single day by passing along what we're grateful for. There's power in telling another what they mean to you, or passing along thanks for something as simple as a shared meal. Such a choice doesn't cost anything, but it piles up spiritual treasure for us. Pretty soon you'll be grateful just for being grateful.Let's pray. Father God, your blessings to us are endless. From the perfect distance from the sun for proper warmth and light to the love that you placed in our hearts for family and friends, you're a good God, and you're deserving of our praise. As two cis-gendered men without children, talking about motherhood in academia isn't really our forte. So, with Lachlan travelling, we took the opportunity to invite Hélène Draux from Digitial Science as guest co-host with Jakob for a conversation about motherhood in academia with Lisette Espín-Noboa and the role it plays in the gender gap. Lisette is a postdoc at the Complexity Science Hub and Central European University. We discuss the structural issues within academic institutions that disproportionately affect mothers and offer recommendations for creating a more supportive environment for women researchers. We also touch on the role of fathers in sharing parental responsibilities and the positive aspects of motherhood that can enhance academic productivity. We end the conversation with a chat about actionable steps that can be taken to improve conditions for parents in academia, including better childcare options, flexible contracts, and the need for role models. The presenting sponsor if this episode is Digital Science. It's produced and edited by Peter Xiong. An elderly veteran, Donald, aged 90, faced financial difficulties while caring for his wife with dementia. He attempted to sell his jewelry at a pawn shop in New Hampshire to cover rent costs. Jenelle Marie, an employee at the shop, noticed his plight and, along with her fiancé, launched a GoFundMe campaign to support him. A TikTok video showcasing the first donation of $1,300 attracted significant attention. The campaign soon gained momentum, resulting in over $434,000 in donations and numerous birthday wishes and gifts for Donald. This situation highlights the need for improved support for veterans.Learn more on this news visit us at: https://greyjournal.net/ Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
If there was one thing you wish society would talk more about, what would it be?“Storytelling has become ubiquitous. It's become a buzzword and is on trend for marketing purposes and branding. Radical storytelling on the other hand is less spoken about and I would love society to talk more about this.”“Radical storytelling can be used as a tool for social change. Feminism and movements like #MeToo have encouraged and given legitimacy for women to write from their own experience and incorporate their own voice and standpoints in their storytelling. As a journalist, I've been trained to be objective and detached. Later in my journalism career, I came to see value in in-depth personal storytelling, and I am passionate now about feeling-based and women-centred stories.”I'm thrilled to introduce you to a special guest today - she's an audio artist and storyteller who hails from Nipaluna/Hobart. Helene Thomas is obsessed with the sound of the voice and the power it has to move people. Originally a print journalist, Helene found her true passion when she discovered the intimacy of sound and immersive audio storytelling. She created her very own mobile sound studio and it's enabled her to travel throughout Australia to capture people's voices and bring to people's ears marginalised voices and incredible untold stories. Helene understands that sharing people's stories comes with significant responsibility so she made this the topic of a PhD study. Through her research, which was based predominantly in Rwanda, she developed a practice that involves slowing down and making deeper human connections to ensure more responsible and ethical storytelling occurs. Helene is in her happy place when she's with people who are sharing their lifeworlds and feels it a privilege to step into people's lives and hear their stories. As you're about to find out, Helene is one very interesting woman…In the episode, Helene and I talked about her story. You can find it here;-“My story is called A Simple Act”: https://www.thewayfinder.com.au/podcast/episode/c11844ce/a-simple-actHelene also talked about a new process she developed called Stories as Soul Medicine. You can find out more on her website;- “The process involves listening to creative, highly engaging true stories in an intimate and safe setting followed by sharing feelings, emotions and thoughts that stir from deep within. These sessions tap into the healing power of being fully present while listening deeply to sound and stories. This is my passion. This is what makes my heart sing. This, is what allows me to reclaim my power as a survivor of sexual violence.”For more information about Helene, check out these places;-Website: https://www.thewayfinder.com.au/Instagram: @thewayfinderstorystudio https://www.instagram.com/thewayfinderstorystudio/Linkedin: Helene Thomas___________Head to michellejcox.com for more information about the ONE QUESTION podcast, your host or today's guestsConnect with Michelle on Linkedin here:- @MichelleJCoxConnect with Michelle on Instagram here:- @michellejcoxConnect with Michelle on Facebook here - @michellejcoxAND, if you have a burning topic you'd love people to talk more about, or know someone who'd be great to come on the One Question podcast, please get in touch;- hello@michellejcox.com

Please welcome my beautiful friend Ryan as we discuss the importance of clean up, wake up, grow up and show up. This episode will explain why some spiritual leaders, authors, teachers or speakers are.. well.. conflicted. Or still deeply trigger, corrupt etc. While their messages are truthful, they might do, promote or say (or not say) things that make your spidy sense tingle and your head turn in shock. This is because they haven't done the clean up, wake up, grow up and then show up. This comes from the teachings of Ken Wilber and Ryan so eloquently explains these 4 stages of human development for us. Ryan and I also discuss the 3 telltale signs that signal when someone is not aligned with truth. I also share some insights on the importance and power of embodiment (show up) as this can be one of the hardest parts for humanity to innerstand. The book I refer to is, “A Simple Act of Gratitude” by John Kralik. For more information on Numerology & Tarot workshops, speaking inquiries, or to connect with me, please visit Lifting-the-Veil.com

Why can't an act of kindness be just that...A simple act...A simple act of love... Why do we need to make this complicated... Why do we need to ensure the cameras are on so the world can see what we're doing... We've lost sight of the intentions of the simple act... The purpose is not to gain likes or attention... Instead... To spread LOVE, JOY, & HAPPINESS to a friend in need... --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/boogievibes/message

In today's hustle-happy world, productivity too often looks like constant action, which too often results in being busy versus productive. There's a feeling that we “can't stop, won't stop,” and honestly, we don't dare stop because if we do, we'll miss out or not make the cut. Please don't believe it. There is a better way to do it. This week, episode 172 of the Positively Living Podcast discusses why pausing will make you more productive! Pausing for productivity means deliberately stepping away from your work, effort, or routine. The word suggests that this is temporary and likely for a short period, but the length of time can vary. In this episode of the Positively Living Podcast, I'm sharing what it means to pause and giving you actionable steps to take right now to incorporate more pauses into your routine. I cover:Why we need to pause in all aspects of life. Why pausing is like hitting the reset button for the mind. The science behind the need for pausing.Four benefits of pausing.Examples of ways to pause, such as reflection and alignment review.Thank you for listening! You won't want to miss hearing the story of Jonathan Almonte's life—born in poverty in the Dominican Republic, unable to attend school, burdened with medical challenges, and contemplated becoming part of a gang—all interrupted in the best way by God caring for him through a local church, Compassion International, and his sponsor. Not only was Jonathan's life changed, but his family came to know Christ as well. And all this came about because of the way God used a woman from Michigan named Jamie, who chose to sponsor a child in her 20s instead of getting a new car. How can you share what God has given you to bless others and point them to Jesus? We'd love to challenge you to consider sponsoring a child through Compassion International as a way to practically love others.
