Or Zones of Genius plural? This term came from the book 'The Big Leap' by Gay Hendricks. Some say it's our purpose and some even say it's our 'superpower'.The best way for me to describe it is that our Zones of Genius are our traits or things that we're naturally good at (it comes easy for us) and it's things or actions that energize us altogether. So for example, I'm good at planning gatherings but I don't absolutely love the tasks that go into it. This isn't my Zone of Genius because I don't love to do it and I don't feel that it's my purpose. Another way to figure this out is if you don't do any of your Zones of Genius, you feel 'empty' or 'off' or even 'down'.If I don't do at least one of the below every so often I won't feel good and I'll be down and out. I've discovered that my Zones of Genius are (in no particular order): 1. Connecting with others2. Encouraging and Motivating others3. Sharing information with othersIt took the most of my life to figure out what they were. I didn't know before this. Self-awareness is a part of self-love. Do you know what your Zone of Genius is or are? If the answer is no, I encourage you to take some time and to do a brain dump and write down what you absolutely love doing as well as what you're naturally good at. Something that comes easy for you that people always say..."you're really good at this!" or "How did you do this so effortlessly?". Remember it also has to be things that you absolutely love doing, too! Phelps discusses his digital marketing career, highlighting his journey through prominent Utah-based digital marketing companies like OrangeSoda and SEO.com before founding Big Leap in 2008. He emphasizes Big Leap's focus on foundational marketing principles, understanding customer journeys, and the importance of a strong brand in an evolving digital landscape. Ready to regain your confidence and clarity during divorce? Join Karen McMahon's High Conflict Divorce Support Group—a 6-session group coaching program designed to help you manage triggers, set boundaries, and take back control. -- 2024 cracked me open. It was one of the hardest years I've lived through—personally and professionally. I felt misaligned with my values, burned out in my work, and disconnected from the joy and freedom I preach to others. But in the summer, I read The Big Leap, and something shifted. I started a year-long commitment to stepping into my Zone of Genius, facing my Upper Limit Problems head-on, and saying YES to what scared me most… and life hasn't been the same since. In this solo episode, I take you behind the scenes of my Big Leap year. I talk about dating again after a decade (gulp!), redefining fun, getting back on my bike (and maybe soon my rollerblades), losing 15 pounds not from restriction, but from celebrating myself differently. I share how I moved from wine on weekdays to novels on the beach, from overworking to letting my work flow from joy. I even caught myself starting arguments in my head—just to feed my old programming. The self-awareness has been wild...and so freeing. And yes, we talk business too. I had tantrums. I doubted. But I kept moving forward. I've reconnected with the why behind Journey Beyond Divorce, and am reimagining the how. I'm sharing what's lighting me up: podcasting, group programs, deep partnerships, and creating space for you to take your Big Leap too. This isn't just my story—it's an invitation for you to leap right alongside me. We often treat money as the finish line. We chase it, measure ourselves by it, and let it shape our choices. But in doing so, we lose sight of the real question: What are we trading our money for—and is it making us truly flourish? As we live in a world that often celebrates achievement, it's easy to build wealth while unintentionally bankrupting other parts of our lives, such as our time, our energy, and our relationships. In this episode of the Happiness Squad Podcast, Ashish Kothari sits down with Tom Shepard to unpack the frameworks and habits that can transform how you relate to money, not just to grow your wealth, but to help you flourish.Tom Shepard is the Founder and CEO of Shepard Financial and author of Money Isn't Everything, Everything Is Money. With over two decades of experience, Tom brings a human-centered approach to financial planning, helping individuals align their money with what truly matters. His book introduces the Seven Financial Natures framework—a practical guide to transforming your relationship with money by valuing not just wealth, but also time, energy, and connection. Many of us follow money patterns inherited from the past, without ever pausing to ask if they align with the future we hope to create. That's why even though we live a life that looks "successful," it doesn't really feel fulfilling.Today, you can change that. Tune in to learn how to stop letting money control your story, and start using it to write a more fulfilling one.Resources:• Money Isn't Everything, Everything Is Money: https://tomshepardeverythingismoney.com • Shepard Financial's website: https://www.shepard-financial.com• Currency Camp: https://www.currencycamp.com/ Books:• Money Isn't Everything, Everything Is Money: A Personalized Approach to Valuing and Trading Time, Energy, Relationships and Money by Tom Shepard : https://a.co/d/h69psqf • The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks: https://a.co/d/5FBeEpE • Hardwired for Happiness by Ashish Kothari: https://a.co/d/8Lj9uZy

Most women don't realize how uncomfortable they are with feeling good—until things start going too well. That's when the sabotage creeps in. A snappy comment. A skipped workout. An unnecessary glass of wine. In today's episode, Colleen breaks down the concept of the “upper limit problem” from The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks—and explains how perfectionists and people-pleasers unknowingly block joy, ease, and success by clinging to struggle. You'll learn how your emotional thermostat gets set in childhood, why guilt and discomfort with pleasure keep you stuck, and how to reset your internal baseline so peace and happiness stop feeling unsafe. This episode is a powerful reminder that you don't have to earn your joy. You just have to stop arguing for your limitations.

Beyond The Systems Podcast | Business Systems & Growth Strategies For Your Online Business
In this vulnerable and refreshingly honest episode, I'm sharing something that might surprise some of you: I've started working a 9-5 corporate job! After five years of running my online business, I've made a significant life change that I'm actually incredibly excited about.I dive deep into my journey as an online entrepreneur - from the highs of location freedom and six-figure years to the challenging reality of feeling disconnected from my work despite outward success. I explore that uncomfortable space of "being unhappy in a business that everyone else is impressed with" and how I tried everything to fall in love with my business again.During our trip to Italy earlier this year, sitting in our dream Airbnb with a hot tub on the balcony overlooking Puglia, I had the stark realization: "What am I doing with my life?" Despite achieving the freedom lifestyle I thought I wanted, something fundamental was missing.I share the exact moment when I finally stopped ignoring my intuition and decided to explore a new path. You'll hear about my job search process (with zero corporate experience!), how I found a sales role that perfectly matches my skills, and how I'm navigating this major transition. For those wondering - no, I'm not shutting down my business! I'm currently balancing both, working about 10-15 hours per week on client projects alongside my full-time job. This episode is for anyone questioning if they're on the right path, feeling stuck in their zone of excellence instead of their zone of genius, or curious about transitioning from full-time entrepreneurship to corporate life.Remember to tune into your intuition - sometimes the right path doesn't make sense on paper, but feels completely right when you follow it.Resources from this episode:Book recommendation: "The Big Leap" by Gay Hendricks (exploring the concept of zone of genius vs. zone of excellence)Connect with Sam:Website: https://www.systemswithsam.com/services Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/systemswithsam/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/samwhiz/

Why do we hit invisible ceilings in our happiness, love, and success? This is the "upper limit problem," and it's sneakier than you might think… often leading us to self-sabotage, just when things are starting to look up. Today's guests, Gay and Katie Hendricks, are literally my idols. Experts on all things personal growth and relationships, they have trained thousands of coaches, authored more than 40 books, and have even appeared on Oprah. It's time to peel back the layers of upper limits and smash our own glass ceilings. When we fear we're shining too bright, we're dimming our zone of genius. This problem can also seep into our relationships – impacting our personal growth AND our happiness. I have experienced the upper limit problem personally and with my clients. Hear how I had one of the worst weeks ever following the excitement of my 6-figure book deal. Why is this phenomenon even happening to us? Don't miss the key insights from Gay and Katie on “conscious loving” to build healthy, dynamic relationships, and how to unlearn the unconscious patterns we repeatedly fall into. IN THIS EPISODE: What is an upper limit? And the evolutionary reasons why people often can't handle long periods of time where things go well How to unearth your genius by revisiting your childhood: what did you love to do? How did time used to disappear? The limiting beliefs that can crimp your genius – for example, that you're fundamentally flawed in some way How Gay and Katie met, a glimpse into the roots of their love story, and the theory behind “conscious loving”, to increase the energy you have together The #1 relationship killer and the three BIG emotions you need to get good at in order to solve problems Using body sensations to develop your emotional intelligence LINKS/RESOURCES MENTIONED Read some of my all-time favorite books by Gay and Katie Hendricks, including The Big Leap and Conscious Loving, and learn about the Hendricks Institute.
Overcome Time Stress with Einstein Time, Inspired by Gay Hendricks' The Big Leap⚠️ Important: Do not listen to this hypnotic meditation while driving or doing anything that requires your full attention. Make sure you're in a safe, comfortable space before pressing play. Does this sound familiar?"I don't have time for that right now.""I wish I could, but I don't have time.""If only I had more time.""There aren't enough hours in the day.""Where did the time go?""I'm running out of time.""I've got to hurry—I'm late again.""Time just slips away from me.""I'm always rushing around.""If I could just find a spare minute.""Time's against me today.""I'm racing against the clock.""Everything takes longer than it should.""I'll squeeze it in if I can find the time."Imagine This: How amazing would it feel to stop battling the clock and start flowing with it, knowing you've got all the time you need for what matters most?I've caught myself playing the “time cop,” stressing over every minute, or the “time slacker,” letting hours slip away, and it always leaves me feeling like time's running me instead of the other way around. This session, inspired by Gay Hendricks' idea of “Einstein time,” is about breaking free from that trap and taking charge. Here's what we'll impress our subconscious dreaming mind with today:Time Ownership: Imagine yourself as the creator of time, calm and in control, with plenty to get everything done without the rush.Abundance Over Scarcity: We'll let go of that stressed-out, “not enough time” vibe and plant a sense of plenty, opening up space for creativity and ease.Empowered Living: Walk away feeling lighter, ready to live with more productivity and fulfillment, knowing you've got the power to shape your days. This isn't just a relaxation break, it's a chance to flip how you see time, shedding those limiting roles and stepping into a place where you're the source of it, with all the abundance you need. Please join me this Wellness Wednesday for the next group session on Zoom: https://adriannehart.gumroad.com/l/ekiga Check out more at https://www.adriannehart.com/ Subscribe for more hypnosis sessions to live with ease, and share how you're making peace with time in the comments!

I am SO excited to welcome bestselling author and counseling psychologist, Gay Hendricks, to the show to talk about themes from two of his books, The Big Leap and Conscious Loving. Gay has been a huge inspiration for me personally and professionally, and he makes psychological concepts easy to understand. We talk about upper limit problems (self-sabotage) first, and then move into how to create epic relationships. Throughout the conversation, Gay shares invaluable wisdom from his own life. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! Read the show notes for today's episode at terricole.com/704

Thoughts create our reality- but our beliefs shape everything. Our attachment to those thoughts, especially the ones about US and our identity matters most. As we do the work of non-attachment, recognize beliefs we hold, and shift them- we feel success on the inside and manifest it on the outside.
