“This question puts you in touch with what you really want to be doing.” Do you ever look back on the week and wonder where all your time went? Do you have projects and passions you want to pursue but can't because you don't have enough time? Where does all that time go? This week I'm exploring two questions that are SO informative - and frustrating! Informative because they reveal something that should be obvious: where you're wasting time. And frustrating, because it's much harder to do something about this than just to be aware of it. But, once you're aware, you will be SO motivated to make changes. I've been working with my clients on where they are spending too much and too little time and have distilled down what I believe would be helpful for you to focus on as well. In this one, I share exactly what I see consultants spending too much and not enough time doing - find out if the same is true for you! KEY POINTS: The power and the pleasure of asking questions like these is you have this knowing inside of you, and it's just a matter of creating a line of communication for the answers to come through to you. It delays that feeling of confidence and the contribution you're going to make.” Episode Hashtags: #businessgrowth #consultants #timemanagement

Hey Friend- Have you ever fallen…and can't get up? (I just couldn't resist the urge to reference that iconic commercial) But seriously, have you ever failed and needed a hand to get out of that hole? I blew it again…and I'M supposed to be the one teaching others how to manage their time well!? This was not a stellar moment for me for sure…Cuz recently, I was DOUBLE-BOOKED & OVERLOOKED some important things…embarrassingly so. But don't shed a tear for me- I didn't stay in the slip up, instead I used it as an opportunity to get up and make my time management even more intentional…and settle the great DIGITAL vs PAPER Planner Debate once and for all. On this episode, I'm passing on some lessons I learned, cuz if you're like me, you might need them too. I pray this blesses, challenges and moves you to action!L.Y.L.A.S. The April sun burned hotter than usual on the back of my neck and tops of my feet as I made my way across the baked expanse of cobbled Texas riverbed. There was once, not so long ago, reliable water where Bluebonnets now confidently sprouted from between the rocks with no fear of drowning. I had been profoundly unprepared for this little expedition. In posesson of neither sun gaiter, wading boots, nor net. But there I was, making my way alongside another trickle of skinny water, as precious to me as the blood coursing through my veins, in search of a deeper pool and, perhaps, a dance with one of its residents.Support the show
In this episode of the Bikepack Adventures podcast, I had the chance to connect with Jerry Kopack. It's quite interesting, because he had recently been on a couple other podcasts, but I felt that there was so much I still wanted to learn about him, and figured there is no better time than the present. When Jerry first reached out, I thought he just wanted to promote his book, but surprisingly, we didn't talk too much about his book and instead spent our time talking about his journey from working for corporate America, to founding a hospice, to taking off on a 2-month bikepacking trip in Africa, which led to the journey lasting nearly 2 years. With a continual question propelling him forward, Jerry only ever tried to answer the question "Am I using my time well?" In the aftermath of his adventures, Jerry has taken on a role with Warmshowers on the Board of Governors and also as "the finance dude" as a means of giving back to the community that helped change his life. You might also recognize his voice from Bike Life, the Warmshowers podcast, as he has taken on some of the duties to lighten the load of the other host. Me too, and today's guest is here to help us with that! Crystal Paine is one of the wisest women I know, and she (literally) wrote the book on time management: The Time-Saving Mom. After all, your time is limited, and successful entrepreneurs need to make the most of every minute. Here are a few tips for how to manage your time successfully as an entrepreneur: First, prioritize your tasks. Create a task list and then order them by importance. Making a list of your most important tasks will help you focus on the essential jobs. Of course, some jobs will always take precedence over others. You can also use the Eisenhower Matrix to help you better prioritize your tasks. The Eisenhower Matrix is a time management technique used to prioritize tasks. President Dwight Eisenhower introduced the method and was known for his practical time management skills. The matrix categorizes tasks into four quadrants: Quadrant 1: Urgent and Important. Quadrant 2: Important, but not Urgent. Quadrant 3: Urgent but not Important. Quadrant 4: Not Urgent and Not Important Tasks that are both urgent and important should be at the top of the list. These are the tasks that you need to complete first. The tasks in the second part of the series are also important. Quadrant 3 tasks are urgent, but you can often delegate them to someone else. Quadrant 4 tasks are neither critical nor essential, and you can eliminate these tasks. Second, create a schedule and stick to it. Having a set schedule will help you use your time more effectively and ensure that you forget nothing important. Leave some flexibility in your plan to account for unexpected tasks or delays. One effective way of creating an efficient schedule is to use the time-block method. It involves scheduling specific periods for certain tasks. For example, you might block out two hours to work on a project and one hour to check and respond to emails. Once you have created your schedule, try your best to stick to it. Next, delegate tasks. As an entrepreneur, you probably have a lot on your plate. Don't do everything yourself–delegate tasks to others on your team or hire outside help when necessary. You can free up your time to focus on the most critical tasks. Hire a virtual assistant to handle some of your administrative tasks or use a project management tool to delegate tasks to your team members. If you have trouble trusting, try using the 80/20 rule. This rule states that 80% of the results come from 20% of the effort. Focus on the tasks that will have the most significant impact and delegate the rest. Set boundaries. It's important to set boundaries between work and personal time. When working, try to avoid distractions and stay focused on the task. Once you've clocked out for the day, resist the urge to check your email or do any more work. It would help if you also learned to say “no” when feeling overwhelmed. It's better to focus on a few tasks and do them well than to do too much and end up doing a poor job. Finally, take breaks. Working non-stop is not sustainable in the long run. You will burn out quickly if you don't take breaks to relax and rejuvenate. Schedule some time for yourself every day, even if it's just a few minutes. Take a walk, read a book, or take a nap. Breaks will help you stay focused and productive when you are working. Managing your time well is essential for entrepreneurs. By following the tips above, you can make sure that you are using your time in the most effective way possible. Prioritize your tasks, create a schedule, delegate, and take breaks to relax. By taking these steps, you can set yourself up for success.
My guest today is Dr. Phil Bishop, Emeritus Professor at the University of Alabama. Due to the pressures he faced as a student and then as a professor at a leading university, Phil has thought much about the whys and hows of managing his time well so as to excel both professionally and spiritually. He shares some of what he's learned about time management. In this podcast we discuss: How Phil learned to manage his time well Why learning to manage time well is so important The importance of making time management choices based on priorities Time management and a weekly day of rest Why we shouldn't be “crazy busy” Being sure to get what we are paying for at college Tips on saving time by keeping track of documents How working ahead by leveraging a calendar saves time Time management as a stress-reducer The value of learning to say “no” The role of prayer in time management How knowing yourself is essential to managing your time effectively Combining tasks to maximize your time Succeeding by doing small things well through good time management Learning from others who manage their time better than you A practical first step to managing your time better Why Phil wishes he had managed his time a little less and been a bit less “productive” Resources mentioned during our conversation: Phil Bishop, College Faith Podcast “How To Get Better Grades…and Have More Fun” Simple Gmail Notes (Gmail extension to add personal notes to emails) Boomerang (Gmail extension to help manage emails) Eugene Peterson, A Long Obedience in the Same Direction: Discipleship in an Instant Society Tim Keller, Every Good Endeavor: Connecting Your Work to God's Work Dr. Bishop's email address: pbishop[at]ua.edu

Hey Winner, Are you looking for time management tips to help you be more productive and make the most of each day? I'm pretty sure we all strive to be able to handle all that we can and be somewhat superwomen in our day-to-day life. However, because (most of the time) we try to do everything ourselves and be everything to everyone, we usually fall short. This is why I wanted to bring my friend, Marta Tancula, back on the show to share her amazing tips on house management because she is great at it! As a full-time working mom of two kids running her own side business, she has had to figure out how to balance her work with her family and not let all that she needs to get done in a day take her away from spending quality time with them. Coach Bennett is back on the podcast to talk about something we know by now is very important: managing our time. More specifically, Bennett talks about the habit of utilizing your time wisely. This may look different for each person, but what matters most is that we are taking advantage of the minutes we have that we could be using to build better versions of ourselves. Bennett also addresses the question: Why do we do things that are challenging to us? You'll have to listen in to hear the answer!

Bible Verse of the Day Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word. But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: but one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her. – Luke 10:38-42 ______________________________ As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” – Luke 10:38-42, NIV
