Welcome to Chewin' The Bat, where we delve into the most up to date sporting headlines around Australia and across the globe. Tune in every week with Gus & Jack (alongside Producer Frae.) for a catch up on all things sports, our favourite segments and of course a few laughs
Gus and Jack (Feat. Producer Frae)
As Indian Wells comes to an end, and things get heating in Miami, Jack and Swizzle recap what was quite a remarkable start to the sunshine double. Queen Iga and King Carlos reigning supreme after week one, but can they back it up - the boys don't think so. Tune in for some courtside gossip and predictions for week 2.
We have a new power couple in town: Demon and Boulter. Doulter if you may. Jack and Swizzle run through another rollercoaster week of results on both the ATP and WTA tours, providing updates from Mexico, San Deigo and a quick update on the opening rounds in the desert; Indian Wells. With Olympics around the corner, we kick things off with a segment thats gaining very little traction, but we enjoy it anyway, its "Game or Sport". With the addition of a new sport for Paris2024, the boys have a few very controversial opinions. The Olympics Committee might have something to say about this one.
What a week of sport, and in particular, some crazy tennis results that Jack and Swizzle delve into. Some notable performances from our current next gen hopefuls, including Brazils Joao Fonseca, plus one of Australia's journeyman knocks up his first ever ATP tour title in Los Cabos.
Just like the good Ol' days of Chewin' The Bat, we kick off the pod with some very important miscellaneous sporting chat which has kept Swizzle up at night. With the calendar currently littered with all levels of competition at the moment, there is no shortage of tennis chat. A new high ranking for Sinner, and of course Australia's very own, the Demon. But most importantly, the boys delve into one of the most important topics of conversation this week in tennis, where are the oney's?
After our 25th unoffical hiatus, the CTB team are back, well sort of. Losing original member Gus to the thriving metropolis of London, and temporarily losing Producer Frae to WAG duties, we've called in the big guns for a replacement. Thats right, its Swizzle. Jack and Swizzle link up for another tennis nerd out, recapping the most memorable stories of the Australian Open. Forza Italia!!
It's an ongoing dilemma among the CTB household; a lack of podcast hosts. With Gus continuing his adventures (domestically this time) and our marvellous producer still galavanting in Europe, we've once again called in the big guns to accompany Jack in the studio. Swizzle is in the house ladies and gentlemen; a true tennis tragic. The boys talk all things US open, Djokovic's incredible record and massive news happening off the court - an ATP and WTA merge.
With both Producer Frae and Gus galavanting in Europe, Jack calls in the big guns for our first Wimbledon chat of the grass season. Swizzle comes in to chat about finals predictions, problematic tournament scheduling and we also round out our top 3 favourite Wimbledon moments.
We've got a feast for the ears for this one. Australia's very own Tristan Schoolkate talks about his tennis journey so far, his goals and ambitions for the future as well as some grim stories from the tour. As always, Jack throws some light-hearted discussions to the table regarding the best chocolate milk brands, and we find out that tennis wasn't the only talent of his growing up. We're stoked to have Tristan in for the first of many episodes of Tennis Unknown. Enjoy
Amid tennis' silly season, the boys delve into first round match ups at Roland Garros, title favourites and where our Aussies sit in the mix. Special guest Ken provides the crew with questions that leave everyone split, and Jack showcases a "not so sporty" sport of the week - an activity of the week.
One of the best Sport Of The Week's we've had in a while opens this pod, before we discuss a successful little period in Aussie tennis. At the back end, the boys (and some special guests) nominate four albums for the rest of their lives
Sport of the Week is back with a bang and a couple of quickies before the boys delve deep into their favourite backyard games and sporting terms. The Chew later on sees a discussion of the merits and popularity of “corporate sports”. Stay tuned 'til the end for a big surprise
The opening episode of 2023 begins with the debut of a new Intro, and some red hot pasta chat. The boys then break down some of their favourite story lines in tennis so far this year, before dipping their toes into Australia's Test tour of India.
The boys are back (in town) from a lengthy hiatus. New studio, new haircuts, same bang average sporting chat. Tune in for a speedy recap of the year in sport, and a trip down memory lane of Sports of the Week.
Join the boys as they make their debut on the long awaited stage of an outdoor podcasting studio. From the leafy surroundings of Gus' parents backyard they tackle all the big issues. Ash Barty's retirement, whether tree snakes have teeth, and Jack's come from behind tipping season so far.
As promised last episode, the boys begin this one by presenting their top three favourite biscuits of all time. Some of the wildcards (especially a ludicrous pick from Producer Frae) will be sure to shock you. There's a long overdue follow up on the lack of personalities in tennis, before a delve into the sport with almost too much personality to handle - rugby league football.
On a stormy afternoon in the Links the CTB boys cure their Sunday blues by dreaming up some outrageous sci-fi sports, before brainstorming where the fifth Grand Slam should be played. Back in the world of the real it's been a big week for sport. Tune in at the top of the show for a rundown of the Kokk's Cup, goalie goals, and Clarkey's harbour heroics
A wet La Niña morning finds the CTB team cozied up at the links talking sport over coffees once again. The crew hype up FAA and Carlos Alcaraz's record setting wins, before dreaming up their ideal tennis franken-players. At the top of the show, two truly bizarre British Sport of the Week's
The AO might be done and dusted for another year, but the boys still have tennis on the brain. Sit back and crack a cold Wallaby for their wrap up of the highs and lows of the maiden grand slam for 2022. Barty's heroics inspire Jack to formulate a new measure for good character - The Barbecue Index. Producer Frae's preferred Olympics, the Winter, is swinging into action in Beijing so that gets a nod. As well as a special Winter themed Sport of the Week. (Let's go Ash!)
In the absence of Producer Frae, Gus and Jack call in one of the best in the business. Taylor, T-Swizzle, joins the boys in a conversation about tennis. With the Australian open in full swing, the boys delve into some action packed headlines, title contenders and our story of the AO so far. Sit back, relax and enjoy the summer of tennis
Unfortunately we are a one man team to kick of the year. In the absence of Gus and Producer Frae, Jack decided to cure his Covid blues with a husky voiced sporting update. We've seen some quality tennis from our Aussies, world record breakers in the NBA and PGA and how can we forget the biggest matchup of the summer; Djokovic Vs The Federal Government. Enjoy
It's coming into the silly season and the past fortnight has given a santa sack sized amount of sporting content. We've had ecstacy, heartbreak and controversy in the race to crown Formula One's world champion, and a top 3 all time shoulder charge contender. Sit back and relax, just as we did, and enjoy a jam packed sporting update to round out the year.
There's no denying it, La Niña threw us off last week, but we're back to bring you a roundup of the week (and a half) that's been in sport. From cricket captains to boxing champions it's been a big week for Australia. This weeks Chew Topic is the tennis coaching qualification system in Australia and how it could be changed to increase participation.
The ATP Next Gen finals have just wrapped up and we've got all you need to know about the best up and comers on tour. For the third week running we improve on our T20 World Cup chat to celebrate the Aussies triumph. Gus also has some miscellaneous bits including a pledge to complete before the end of this year, and a possible power move.
Why does Ronaldo insist on an erratic sleep schedule? What did Roger Bannister do before breaking the 4 minute mile? How much does Lebron spend on his recovery each year? Before delving into all that for The Chew, the boys cover the big highlights of the week: James “Ducky” Duckworth breaking into the ATP Top 50, post game swearing moments, and another loosely understood week of international cricket.
Another week, another huge episode of sporting highs and lows brought to you by the Chewin' The Bat team. Join us for a rundown of the Noosa Triathlon as we stay local, Ash Barty's record breaking run at the top, and Jarvo's second international sporting debut. After a water taste test the boys turn their newly lubricated voice boxes to a review of Tennis Hot Shots system in Australia.
In what's been a bit of a strange time in the sporting calendar, Chewin' The Bat is here to bring you the news and soothe your worries. Join us for a run down of what' important, like how to mentally prepare for a cricket viewing season, and why birds ever got involved in the game of golf. Towards the end, the boys pivot to ask the age old question: should tennis coaches be allowed on court at professional events?
Join the Chewin' The Bat team as they dive into the murky waters of draft systems. Wondering about the impact of a drafting system in the NRL, the boys go through a mildly under prepared expansion draft for everyone's new second favourite team, the Redcliffe Dolphins. This episode is also blessed by the triumphant return of Sport of the Week and Who Knew (with Producer Frae)
