In today's episode, Rebecca and I interview a client of Rebecca's. Leticia started training with Rebecca about 2 months ago after her doctor recommended (for the 2nd time!!) to begin a strength training program. She was referred to Rebecca by a trainer at the gym where Rebecca trains. It was a perfect match! Leticia speaks about her reluctance to begin training, what she has experienced since starting her training journey and how she views what we as coaches do as invaluable. A Friend of Medjugorje talks about the April 25, 2025, message and his words warn us of what we need to know for this moment in time.
For years, I thought I was doing everything right, showing up, sweating it out, and doing all the workouts I saw online. But I couldn't figure out why I wasn't actually getting stronger. Why my joints ached, why I felt stuck, or why my lifts weren't going anywhere.Turns out, I was making some of the most common fitness mistakes that women still make today. From rushing through reps to skipping rest (guilty), from starting every workout with cardio to training only in one plane of motion, I've done it all. And in this episode, I'm breaking it all down for you. Not to make you feel bad, but to help you finally connect the dots and train in a way that actually supports your goals. If you've ever felt like you're working hard but not seeing the results, this episode is for you. We're talking about how to lift smarter, move with purpose, and fix the sneaky things that are secretly sabotaging your progress. This is part one, because yep, there are that many things we need to talk about.Because strength isn't just about lifting heavier. It's about doing the little things right, and doing them consistently.Let's fix this, together. I Also Discuss:(00:00) Common Fitness Mistakes and Solutions(09:07) Proper Core Bracing for Lifting(15:17) Proper Footwear and Multi-Plane Training(30:05) Empowerment Through Purposeful LiftingThank You to Our Sponsors:Broads App – Get structured, progressive training and a powerhouse community to keep you strong, consistent, and unstoppable. Ben Garrett of the Ole Miss Spirit (OMSpirit.com) welcomes you inside an all-new, Monday (November 18, 2024) edition of Talk of Champions, powered by our friends at RiverLand Roofing. There's a better chance Ole Miss hosts a College Football Playoff game than gets left out. But polls from the coaches and AP show how anti-Ole Miss bias is still very real in the rooms where all the decisions happen.Still, the Rebels have the best win of anybody in college football. They also went into the weekend needing Arkansas over Texas, Florida over LSU, South Carolina over Missouri, Georgia over Tennessee and Kansas over BYU. They went 4 for 5. Ole Miss is in as strong a spot as anyone with two regular season games left, no matter the outside noise. Up next for the Rebels (8-2, 4-2 SEC) is a tricky road trip to Florida (5-5, 3-4). The Gators are a different team with DJ Lagaway at quarterback. They showed as much in making easy work of LSU.Ole Miss dominated Georgia head to head. The teams have identical records. The Rebels should be ranked higher. They'd do well to have the Big 12 become a one-bid league, sure. But Tennessee lost to Arkansas AND Georgia. Ole Miss blew both of those teams out. The Rebels also went to South Carolina and destroyed the Gamecocks by 24 — another Top 20 win that only looks better and better with each passing week.Texas isn't inspiring, and the Bulldogs were raced by Georgia. Yet the Longhorns are 3, Georgia is 8 and Ole Miss is 9. Make it make sense! We try to on Talk of Champions. Text or call RiverLand for all your roofing needs (662-644-4297). Addressing this and other common weight training issues!
Whether you are new to strength training or a seasoned lifter, progressive overload is two common words you have probably heard before. But what do they really mean, and how can you apply them both as a lifter and as a coach? If you are feeling stuck because you are not seeing the gains you are hoping for in your programming, progressive overload could be the puzzle piece you still need to include. Key Takeaways If you are interested in progressive overload, you should: Work with a coach or find a strength training plan that is custom to you Gradually build up strength and vary your movements to build your adaptation ability Remember that this is a great investment in your health if you are honest with yourself The Key to Long-Term Strength Gains You see relatively continuous improvement by gradually tweaking the dials of your training and the demands placed on your body over time. If you fail to challenge your body, you will fail to adapt. One of the hardest and most important things you can do is advance your lifting in a way that makes the most of your time and moves you in the right direction. The key is having a plan for your lifting that saves you time and worry when you get into the gym. Know Why It Matters Training, coaching, lifting, and recovering are a science and an art. But to really see results, it takes new challenges and an understanding of one's motivation behind the movements. Increasing weights or adding more reps, paying attention to rest time, and utilizing different exercises and tempos are all key components to seeing the results you are hoping for. Patience and repetition are the basis of long-term strength training; all you need is the right program! What role does progressive overload play in your strength training program? Let me know your thoughts in the comments on the episode page. It didn't take long for America to see the real Kamala Harris is fake. From an awkward staged fake phone call with the Obamas to a stunt gone wrong visit to a record shop to buy black music, Kamala is at her worst when we see her. Donald Trump is the total opposite as he has crushed it this week with dose after dose of "real" statements and actions. Tucker Carlson has passed Joe Rogan for the #1 podcast on Spotify as I'll share thoughts of how podcasting reminds me of a revolution in the 1990's. The Chiefs are changing the game plan this week and they're going deep. I'll play a clip from Stan Weber on radio yesterday on how and why the Chiefs are doing this. It's going to be fun. The Royals have their best three starters against the Cubs this weekend then the back end of the rotation against the White Sox. The next week of games are set up perfectly. MLB got a no hitter Thursday, an NFL QB names his dream golf foursome and we have our Song to the Week for you.
WGN-TV Weather Producer Bill Snyder talks about the historic July 15th tornado outbreak, and why more days like it are likely on the way. CLICK HEREWho we areBlock Club Chicago is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit news organization dedicated to delivering reliable, relevant and nonpartisan coverage of Chicago's diverse neighborhoods. We believe all neighborhoods deserve to be covered in a meaningful way.We amplify positive stories, cover development and local school council meetings and serve as watchdogs in neighborhoods often ostracized by traditional news media.Ground-level coverageOur neighborhood-based reporters don't parachute in once to cover a story. They are in the neighborhoods they cover every day building relationships over time with neighbors. We believe this ground-level approach not only builds community but leads to a more accurate portrayal of a neighborhood.Stories that matter to you — every daySince our launch five years ago, we've published more than 25,000 stories from the neighborhoods, covered hundreds of community meetings and send daily and neighborhood newsletters to more than 130,000 Chicagoans. We've built this loyalty by proving to folks we are not only covering their neighborhoods, we are a part of them. Some of us have internalized the national media's narrative of a broken Chicago. We aim to change that by celebrating our neighborhoods and chronicling the resilience of the people who fight every day to make Chicago a better place for all.
