What we're talking about: 1:33 What is a Bachelor of Arts? Don't confuse “Art” with “Arts”! While the subject Art at school involves things like painting and drawing, a Bachelor of Arts is more about humanities and exploring ideas through a particular perspective. Some people are reluctant to pursue a Bachelor of Arts because they think it won't lead anywhere, however if you look at the majors within the course, there are heaps of things you can study within a Bachelor of Arts that very clearly leads to a particular job or career. 6:42 What if you don't know what you want to do in your career? If you don't know yet what you want to do in your career, that's totally normal and completely fine. I firmly believe that if you're passionate about something and keep learning and networking in that area, opportunities will become available to you. I give a couple of examples of people who studied Arts and didn't know where it was going to take them, including Ash Barty's mindset coach, Ben Crowe. 8:56 A Bachelor of Arts works really well as part of a double degree A fantastic way to explore a greater range of areas, round out your education and have more to talk about in job interviews is to combine Arts with another degree. 10:51 The majors that are offered are important A Bachelor of Arts at 2 different universities can look completely different, so make sure you take a look at what's offered so you can choose the right one for you. I go through some of the majors offered at The University of Melbourne, Monash University, RMIT, Swinburne and Deakin to give you an idea of what your Bachelor of Arts could look like depending on where you choose to study. The first Slam of the year doesn't give us many weeks of tennis to form opinions, but it's delivered on story lines, with one taking the cake: Naomi Osaka -- having already withdrawn from the Australian Open -- announced she's pregnant and will miss the 2023 season. This barely a week after defending champ Ash Barty announced her own pregnancy. Tournament director Craig Tiley is up to his usual hijinks, this year banning booing, rolling out NFTs in an inhospitable market, and extracting surplus labour from what used to be free (player practices). All that plus draw analysis, January standouts, PTPA news, a complete diversion on our take on Rolling Stone's greatest singers list. Ready? 2:30 Naomi Osaka is missing the Australian Open, yes … but why, pray? 10:50 What kind of mess will Craig get into this year? Well, funny you should ask 16:00 Booing Novak Djokovic is illegal. Is this a real thing? 19:50 Scamming scammers: extracting surplus value from player practices plus the AO NFT gallery 29:10 The PTPA announces an executive committee 33:50 Who's standing out in the first two weeks of 2023? Former Tennis player turned broadcaster Cliff Drysdale is this week's guest. Drysdale was a highly ranked professional player in the 1960s and early 1970s. Then, when ESPN started in 1979, Drysdale became a tennis announcer. He evolved into a strong play-by-play announcer and has been with the network since its inception. In 2013, he was elected into the International Tennis Hall of Fame. In this episode, Drysdale talks about his transition to the booth from the court. He also discussed what ESPN was like when it was from a fledgling startup to the juggernaut it has become. He also discussed some of the mechanics of tennis and weighs in on the debate of 2 out of 3 vs. 3 out of 5 sets being more entertaining. He also discussed some key players on the tour including Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Serena Williams, Iga Swiatek, Naomi Osaka, Ash Barty, Nick Kyrgios, Victoria Azarenka, and many more.
Full squad is back. We discuss Phil Mickelson not playing the Masters, Bryson's latest injury comments, a way golf is helping Ukrainian student refugees, how bad we are at doing everyday things, the match play at Austin CC, Pirates Voyage in Myrtle Beach, Ash Barty's shocking retirement (not a tennis podcast), our theme song, and much more.
The crew discusses what life must be like as an Atlanta sports fan before breaking down the details of the Masvidal-Covington fight at Papi Steakhouse. Plus, Riley Opelka joins the show to discuss Ash Barty's retirement, life in the tennis world, and more. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
He made the accusation in an address to the Japanese parliament. Russia says President Putin plans to attend the G20 summit in Indonesia later this year. Also: the Taliban deny Afghan teenage girls a return to the classroom, and Ash Barty, the world's best female tennis player, retires.
