Joanna Jordan, founder and CEO of Central Talent Booking, with offices in New York, Los Angeles and London, and Claudia have been sitting on the porch of Joanna's new home in the Hudson Valley on a warm Fall day and discussing life. And since microphone and headphones are Claudia's new must haves and always with her, they decided to record this episode whilst they had started discussing the empty nest, what lies ahead and how we actually shed skins by evolving to being a parent to adult children. Joanna founded Central Talent Booking (CTB) 25 years ago (with a toddler and a second child on the way), the first of its kind back then, it continues to be the most sought-after celebrity booking agency. Before starting her own business, Joanna spent many successful years on the Late Show With David Letterman. Among the many services CTB provides, Joanna and her team book the guests of the very highest regard for top-tier shows such as Jimmy Kimmel Live and Marc Maron's wildly successful podcast. But before that, Joanna was the booker for Late Show with David Letterman. Plucked from her television job in Britain by Robert Morton, Joanna was hired to help organize the chaotic world of booking Late Show. She got so good at it, that when she made the decision to go out on her own and start CTB, David Letterman's production became her very first client. In this episode of The Letterman Podcast, Joanna takes time out of her extremely busy schedule to have a walk down memory lane with Mike. She tells us how she got the gig, some of the bumps that needed to be smoothed out, some of the guests she was proud to land, and even one or two that got away. Every bit as powerful as she is delightful, this conversation will provide all sorts of tidbits about a part of the show the average viewer might not think about normally.

Speaking of Higher Ed: Conversations on Teaching and Learning
How do we know good teaching when we see it? Whether you're a new faculty member, a seasoned educator, or an administrator, this episode offers a look at how we can better understand and promote effective teaching practices. Lauren Barbeau, PhD, Assistant Director for Learning and Technology Initiatives at Georgia Tech, joins us to discuss the Critical Teaching Behaviors framework (CTB). The CTB framework was developed by Barbeau and Claudia Cornejo Happel, PhD, to provide a comprehensive system for instructors and administrators to identify and document good teaching. The CTB categorizes effective teaching behaviors into six main areas. These categories are derived from a thorough analysis of research focused on teaching and learning. The areas include alignment, inclusion, engagement, assessment, technology integration, and reflection. Barbeau explains the inspiration behind creating this framework centered on behaviors and each of the six categories. Barbeau discusses how this comprehensive guide can help you plan a path to document your teaching and more. Barbeau says, “we're also showcasing these are the behaviors that lead to improved student outcomes. So, when you're doing these things, you can know that you're an effective instructor and someone reviewing you can know that you're effective as well.” Speaking of Higher Ed is produced by the Center for Instructional Innovation at Augusta University. Camp Albemarle seeks support for a plan to winterize the Hamner Lodge, a structure built in 1941 by the CCC and used by every 4th and 5th grade student in Charlottesville and Albemarle for the study of ecology for over 20 years. If this campaign is successful, Camp Albemarle could operate year-round. Consider your support by visiting campalbemarleva.org/donate.Albemarle purchasing land on Wednesday? The next regular meeting of the Albemarle Board of Supervisors is not until June, but the six members will meet in closed session this Wednesday. Virginia's open meetings laws allow for elected bodies to discuss certain matters without the public present. The notice for the May 24 meeting at 1 p.m. cites two provisions of the state code. (view the agenda) The first is “to discuss or consider the acquisition of real property in the Rivanna Magisterial District.” The second is “to consult with and be briefed by legal counsel regarding specific legal matters requiring legal advice relating to such acquisition.” Immediately after the closed session, Supervisors will vote on a resolution to authorize purchase of property and assets. There are no further details but Supervisors will convene in Room 241 after this vote to hold a media briefing. Albemarle Executive report: New disc golf course at Chris Greene Lake, HARTS team in placeIn Virginia, a locality's top manager actually performs the business of government and is responsible for executive actions. In Charlottesville that's interim City Manager Michael C. Rogers. In Albemarle that is County Executive Jeff Richardson. Often reports on what's happening are made to the elected body. On May 17, Albemarle Supervisors got a report from Trevor Henry, the Deputy County Administrator. They learned there is now a new 18-hole disc golf course at Chris Greene Lake.“The development of this new amenity in the northern part of the county was a successful partnership between Parks and Recreation by providing the space and in-kind services and the Blue Ridge Disc Golf Club whose members devoted 1,100 volunteer hours to construct the course,” Henry said. Henry also said graduate students at the University of Virginia School of Architecture are working with the county have helped with the creation of a Regional Digital Equity Plan that is being developed by the Broadband and Accessibility Office.“This is in partnership with community organizations, the city of Charlottesville, and [the University of Virginia],” Henry said. “Their analysis resulted in several key recommendations that the coalition will incorporate into their final plan.”To learn more about that project, here's the March meeting of the Coalition:Henry also had news about the Human Services Alternative Response Team that Albemarle is putting together. The HARTS Team is intended to answer calls where a person is believed to be having a mental health crisis. “The team has been formed and will be adjusting to responses based on each situation to ensure the safety and best outcomes for individuals involved,” Henry said. “As they are forming, they are beginning training and developing protocols to implement the co-responder model. That work will continue with procedures and training as they become operational and start responding to mental health calls for service.” Henry also reported on the results of an archaeological study from materials uncovered at the location of the former Swan Tavern in Court Square in Charlottesville. That's the site of the future General District Court that will be jointly used by both the city and Albemarle County. “These artifacts include a Moravian press pipe, bowls, antique glass bottles and more,” Henry said. “This project is a good reminder for the important of preserving our county's history. The artifacts that were uncovered during this dig period are being cleaned and catalogued and we expect a final report by the end of this calendar year.” CTB to meet in Charlottesville this weekThe body that approves funding across the Commonwealth of Virginia will meet this week at the Residence Inn on West Main Street in Charlottesville, steps away from a now-canceled project. The Commonwealth Transportation Board will begin with a workshop at 8:30 a.m. that will feature a large amount of state-wide business. One item to watch is a discussion on the fifth round of Smart Scale, which is a mechanism that helps decide what transportation projects are funded. (workshop agenda) The CTB will make a final decision in June, but here are three area projects currently in the running:* Avon Street Multimodal Improvements (only for the Druid Avenue to Avon Court section) – $15.8 million (Charlottesville-Albemarle MPO)* US 250/Peter Jefferson Parkway Intersection Improvements, Park and Ride, and Access Management – $20.55 million (Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission) * Belvedere Boulevard/Rio Road Intersection Improvements – $4.89 million (Albemarle County)On Wednesday is the action meeting unless the workshop on Tuesday finishes early. Opportunity for public comments is taken at this meeting. (action meeting agenda)The CTB meeting is just steps away from what had been Phase 1 of the West Main Streetscape. Charlottesville had slowly assembled money for a nearly $50 million project to be built in four phases, but canceled them last year in order to put the local match toward the renovation and expansion of Buford Middle School. The event began with opening statements beginning with Dashad Cooper who was unable to attend the May 10 event I co-hosted with Neil Williamson of the Free Enterprise Forum. (view that event)“As a Council member, I believe it is crucial that we have an open and honest discussion about the vision of Charlottesville, and I'm here to share my vision,” Cooper said. “Together I believe we can work towards a solution that would benefit all members of society.” Cooper is a social services assistant who said he sees many people struggling with mental health issues who are affected by increases in rent. “I think mental health has been overlooked for far, far too long and the pandemic has put the mental health at the forefront and the people need help now,” Cooper said. Former City Councilor Bob Fenwick used much of the same opening statement he made at the May 10 forum but leaned in with his skepticism of the city's ability to provide solutions for one intractable problem. “The notion that affordable housing can be addressed with yet another program without better management, including adequate funding for all of the peripherals that go with it is very much in the air,” Fenwick said. Fenwick said the big issues he is hearing about are the zoning code rewrite, increased property assessments and public safety. “And the biggest issue tonight is probably going to be the zoning rewrite as well it should be as it hasn't been fully crafted and is virtually incomprehensible,” Fenwick said. Challenger Natalie Oschrin also used much of the same opening statement as the May 10 event but I'll quote different parts from a previous story. She said her primary job has skills that would apply to time on Council. “I've worked in the hospitality industry for over ten years, mostly planning and organizing weddings,” Oschrin said. “As you might imagine there's a lot of coordinating and managing in addition to cajoling and negotiating that needs to happen to pull the event off successfully and within budget.” Oschrin said she supports efforts to build more places to live within the city.“I've worked with a lot of people who have to commute from outlying communities for their job in the city [and] that means close to an hour in the car each way,” Oschrin said. “Our teachers, nurses, firefighters deserve to live in Charlottesville and not be pushed out by high housing costs.” Councilor Michael Payne is seeking his second term and also had many of the same introductory comments. “For those of you who don't know me, I grew up in the area and after college moved back here and worked for Habitat for Humanity of Virginia in affordable housing as well as gotten involved in politics through community organizing with Indivisible Charlottesville and the Charlottesville Low-Income Housing Coalition and have been on Council since January 2020,” Payne said. Payne said the past few years have been difficult for city government but Council has begun to make progress with the adoption of a climate action plan and an affordable housing plan that comes with $10 million a year in funding.“We've started to stabilize city staff and build a strong staff team within the city as well as made historic investments in schools and are moving toward being able to create a regional transit authority to strengthen our bus system,” Payne said. Charlottesville Mayor Lloyd Snook also addressed many of the same themes as the May 10 opening statement beginning with a general slogan for his campaign in 2019.“My overall slogan was ‘Let's Work Together' and ‘Let's Try to Make Charlottesville Work again,” Snook said.Snook said he and Payne both voted to adopt that affordable housing plan in March 2021 and they worked together to identify the funds to invest in the renovation and expansion of Buford Middle School. He said he wants four more years to ensure that work is completed. “Not only make sure that Buford gets finished but also start thinking about the next step in the school reconfiguration process,” Snook said. “That's to look at Walker and the elementary schools. In his opening statement, Snook pointed out that many of Fenwick's critiques of the zoning code were inaccurate given that a final draft has not been presented to Council yet. This week, Gilly time travels through the centuries with Belgian writer Regula Ysewijn to explore the rich history of the food from her homeland. An anglophile who binged on Bronte and Austen since she was a child, Regula has spent much of her food writing life focussing on British baking. She's a consultant for the National Trust and even wrote the Downton Abbey Christmas Cookbook. But in her book Dark Rye and Honey Cake, she's going home to Belgium, the long way. As she digs deep into the food of the ancient Dutch language low countries, she traces the influence of their festival baking on the food culture in modern Belgium. Show #1527 Good morning, good afternoon, and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily, you trusted source of EV information. It's Sunday 10th July, it's Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to. BYD SEAL REPORTEDLY TO BE OFFICIALLY LAUNCHED IN CHINA ON JULY 18 "Pre-orders for the BYD Seal began on May 20 with a starting price of RMB 212,800 ($31,860) and orders reached 22,637 units within seven hours. Citing unnamed BYD dealer sources, several local media outlets today said the BYD Seal will officially go on sale in China on July 18. The BYD Seal, the second model in the company's Ocean series after the Dolphin, is the first to use BYD's CTB (cell to body) technology, which allows the battery to be integrated into the body. The standard range version of the BYD Seal comes with a 150-kW rear motor and the long-range version with a 230-kW rear motor. Its 4WD performance version has a total front and rear motor power of 390 kW and accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds. The Seal is expected to be the most important model in BYD's history, the team said, adding that with reference to Model 3 sales, they expect the model's steady-state monthly sales to exceed 30,000 units." The P7 is already being marketed in Norway, and XPeng plans to launch the sedan in Sweden, Denmark, and the Netherlands in the second quarter of 2023. The XPeng P7 is built on a bespoke EV platform, known internally as "Edward," that was co-developed with Porsche. It's a conventional skateboard design, with multi-link suspension front and rear and an 80 kWh battery pack between the axles. XPeng claims a range of up to 329 miles on the WLTP test cycle for the RWD Long Range, and a 0-60 mph acceleration time of less than 6.9 seconds. Claimed WLTP range for the 4WD High Performance is up to 292 miles, with a claimed 0-60 mph acceleration time of less than 4.5 seconds. the XPeng P7 is one of the most impressive new cars we've driven this year. In Norway, the XPeng P7 4WD High Performance costs less than two-thirds the price of a dual-motor Tesla Model S Long Range. In U.S. dollars, using the conversion rate current at the time of writing, that would make it a $53,000 car. EV powertrains are inherently smooth and quiet, and deliver plenty of easy driving torque. There are no pesky calibration issues in terms of driveability or to meet emissions and fuel economy targets. Making a car that's instantly competitive with mainstream rivals from established automakers has never been easier." According to data published over the weekend by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) and reported by CnEVPost, Model Y sales in China reached 52,150 through June, up nearly five fold from the 11,623 models sold in June 2021. The Tesla Model Y blew away all its competition, with the next closest SUV model the BYD Song, which only sold 31,787 units in June. Looking at the first six months of 2022 in China, SUV sales were led by the BYD Song with 162,573 units sold. The Tesla Model Y was in second place with 133,666, thanks to the closure of its Shanghai gigafactory in April." Since then, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) has been under scrutiny from households across the state. ERCOT doesn't allow batteries to send power to the grid unless it has extra energy not used by the owner. Tesla is asking ERCOT for a rule change, and wants its powerwall customers in Texas to take action. According to Tesla's website, it won't leave powerwall owners with less than 20% power to use for their homes. Tesla is asking powerwall owners to show ERCOT that a virtual power plant, also known as a "powerwall fleet," could help in extreme cases, like during a winter storm or with extra demand during the Texas summer heat." The company aims to equip ten per cent of its car parking spaces, about 779 bays, by March 2024. The most recent installations include 160 charging points in Reading, 111 in Manchester, 84 in Edinburgh, 56 in Leeds and 41 in Welwyn Garden City. Compleo has delivered the columns marked with green parking bays, and passengers can pay via the APCOA Connect app." Original Source: https://www.electrive.com/2022/07/09/network-rail-adds-450-ev-charge-points-at-stations-across-the-uk/ ELECTRIC VEHICLES 'COULD BE AS CHEAP AS COMBUSTION-ENGINE CARS' WITH THESE TAX BREAKS Australia's electric vehicle (EV) uptake is lagging, but tax experts say they have a "silver bullet solution" that would both drive sales and help increase the supply of cheaper second-hand EVs. Prepared by tax experts from Monash and Griffith universities, the report describes a woeful situation: business fleets (which include both government and company vehicles) account for 40 per cent of light vehicle sales, but almost none of these are EVs. Of the more than 600,000 passenger vehicles and light SUVs sold to business fleets in 2020, only 488 were EVs. If the business could claim the full cost of the EV as a tax deduction (known as "instant asset write-off"), it would save about $11,000 over three years. with the addition of purchase incentives from various states and territories, either as subsidies or rebates on registration, the price gap vanished. In 2001, Norway made EV sales exempt from its equivalent of the GST (which is higher than ours, at 25 per cent). Of the 469,000 organisations in Australia with a fleet of more than two cars, only about 1,000 have more than 250 cars in a fleet." Original Source: https://www.abc.net.au/news/science/2022-07-06/electric-vehicle-uptake-tax-reform-race-for-2030-report/101210180 GOVERNMENT EV CHARGING FUNDING AVAILABLE FOR FLEETS AND WORKPLACE Simon Tate, Sales Director at Mer UK: "Reliable and affordable charging infrastructure is key to that transition, and to help meet the growing demand, the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) has funding available. the Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) provides financial support towards the cost of purchasing and installing workplace charge points. The scheme allows for up to £350 per charging socket (maximum of 40 sockets) up to a value of £14,000. To be eligible for the scheme you must be a registered UK business, charity, or public sector organisation; have off-street parking; and own the property or have consent from the landlord to install the charge points. Businesses can also use the WCS to fund the upgrade of charge points older than three years. The funding can't be used for repairs. It must be a new charge point that's installed and the 40 socket limit still applies. As of 1 April 2022, the WCS has funded the installation of 26,424 sockets in workplace car parks and depots since the scheme started in 2016. aunched in April of this year, we have the EV infrastructure grant for staff and fleets. It's aimed at small and medium sized businesses (SMEs) and has been designed to help organisations plan for the future demand of low emission vehicles. SMEs can get up to £850 for each private parking space that the charging infrastructure and charge point is required for. £500 for the supporting electrical work and £350 towards the actual EV charger. Each grant application can be up to a maximum of £15,000." Show #1474 Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily, you trusted source of EV information. It's Saturday 21st May, it's Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to. VOLKSWAGEN'S GLOBAL PRODUCTION NETWORK FOR ELECTRIC VEHICLES GROWS - Volkswagen is expanding its global production network for electric vehicles by starting to make the all-electric ID.4 in Emden. Emden is now the second site for electric vehicles in Germany following Zwickau and also joins the Chinese plants in Anting and Foshan. - Chattanooga (ID.4) and Hanover will also commence production this year. As a result, Volkswagen is creating the conditions in 2022 for building 1.2 million all-electric vehicles a year based on the MEB in the future at its sites in Europe, the U.S. and China. - Apart from the ID.4, Emden will make another model – the AERO B – next year. In addition, production of the iconic ID. Buzz will commence this year at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles in Hanover. It will be joined from 2023 on by the ID.3 made in Wolfsburg, while a further electric vehicle – the Trinity – will then roll off the assembly line at the location starting in 2026. - The ID.4's start-up is on schedule, despite the global challenges during the two-year conversion phase. Emden's maximum production capacity at the end of 2022 will be 800 units per working day, depending on the supply situation. - In the first quarter of 2022 alone, Volkswagen delivered more than 30,000 units – meaning every one-in-two all-electric vehicles from Volkswagen is an ID.4. 163,000 units have been delivered since its launch, making the ID.4 the Volkswagen brand's and the Group's best-selling e-vehicle. In many markets, the electric SUV jumped to the top of the sales charts in its very first year and was the best-selling all-electric vehicle in countries such as Denmark, Finland, Ireland or Sweden. There are currently around 73,000 orders on hand worldwide for the successful model Original Source : https://www.automotiveworld.com/news-releases/volkswagens-global-production-network-for-electric-vehicles-grows-with-the-launch-of-a-second-german-site-in-emden/ BYD'S SEAL MODEL TO UTILIZE INNOVATIVE CELL-TO-BODY TECHNOLOGY - On Friday, Chinese automaker BYD unveiled its foremost technology called CTB (cell to body), which allows the battery to be integrated into the vehicle body itself. The first EV model to utilize the technology will be the Seal series of vehicles. - Before the CTB solution, the most common method with which to manufacture batteries was with CTP (Cell To Pack), that is, the battery cell was directly integrated into the battery pack. The world's first CTP battery pack from Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) went offline in 2019, and was successively introduced on Tesla's Model 3 and Model Y, XPeng P7 and other models in the last two years. The blade battery released by BYD in March 2020 also used CTP technology. - CTB solution allows the sandwich structure originally used for the battery pack to be used throughout the vehicle, with the top cover of the battery pack making up the vehicle body's flooring. This design allows for a 100 percent increase in body torsional stiffness over conventional designs - The standard-range rear-wheel-drive version is equipped with a 150kW motor, 61.4 kWh battery, and a CLTC cruising range of 550km. The four-wheel-drive performance version has an output power of 390kW, 82.5 kWh battery and a CLTC cruising range of 650km. Original Source : https://pandaily.com/byds-seal-model-to-utilize-innovative-cell-to-body-technology/ GM PATENT: ELECTRIC TRUCKS COULD CHARGE OTHER EVS DURING FAST-CHARGING, WITH DUAL PORTS - Electric vehicles have the potential to become mobile power banks for our houses and worksites. But as more scenarios become viable, would two ports be better than one? - That appears to be something GM has either pondered, or saved for the future, with a recent patent filing showing a setup that might get the most out of GM's double-layer pack - The proposed setup relies on a series of controllers and switches, in addition to the GM pack's baked-in ability to operate as two different packs in series or in parallel, thus permitting the top and bottom to temporarily be wired in series. The latter allows 800-volt charging to take advantage of speedier 350-kw DC fast-charging hardware. - GM outlines that one charging port could be configured to charge at 800V or 400V, while the other charge port would be connected to the other “pack” and only be 400V. It could connect them in series while charging both the upper and lower packs at the same time using 800V and the first port. Or it could use both ports to charge the upper and lower packs simultaneously at 400V, with the controller capable of selectively connecting them in parallel. Finding a therapist who you trust and who can offer you proper support can be a complicated process for many people. One of the reasons for this is the confusing and sometimes even misleading terms used in the field of mental health. Joining me today is research psychologist and medical staff member at the Austen Riggs Center, Dr. Katie C. Lewis. We'll discuss the differences and similarities between cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and psychodynamic therapy, how to determine which treatment modality is right for your unique family, and arm you with the knowledge you need for finding a therapist that will best support your goals and honor your parenting values, whether your seeking treatment for yourself or your child.
