Jimmy drove down to have dinner at Nan Ban Kan, and record a fresh episode of the podcast. Jannik Sinner wins his first Indian Wells crown, which was the only Masters 1000 hard court title missing from his resume. Having only played 2 tournaments so far this year it was nice to see the young Italian play some of the best tennis of the year. Aryna Sabalenka also broke through to win her first IW title after being runner up in 2025 to Andreeva. She played an instant classic vs AO champ Elena Rybakina in the final winning 7-6 in the third. Daniil Medvedev is back playing some of the best tennis of his career and is back in the top ten of the ATP tour. Med played a great match beating Carlos Alcaraz in the SF and almost pushing Sinner to 3 in the final. With 2 titles on the year already it seems like there is more positive things ahead for the Russian. Elena Rybakina has been one of the best players in the world the past 9 months. The AO champ played some amazing tennis to get to the final and was up a set and a break on Sabby before things turned around. In what has to be one of the best matches of the year the two biggest hitters on tour blasted away for 3 high powered sets. Sadly someone had to lose, but something tells us these two will play more important matches down the road. All that plus more on a new episode of the Advantage Connors podcast. Today Paul is joined by hottie merch model and two time ball boy Ben Kersten to break down the latest from the desert as we're talking all things Indian Wells. We breakdown the hottest matches, and we talk about the players matching the hottest breakdowns around the tournament. Sinner, Medvedev, Sabalenka and Rybakina just gave us one of the greatest final Sunday's ever. Plus we have a new set of Lobsbians and a new Cross Court - opening a query into queering Sam Querey's bracket quandary.
This week Erik and Aidan discuss the first week of the Indian Wells Masters which has delivered some exciting moments so far. The top 2 cruised through their early rounds, and seem to be heading on a collision course to a Sinner and Alcaraz Final. Djokovic survived a couple of early scares, while Musetti was upset in his first match. Meanwhile, last year's winner Draper has been performing well, and a host of other underdog players have made it through to hopefully make it an exciting second week of the tournament. It's only been a few days since the last pod but so much has happened at Indian Wells for Catherine, David and Matt to get stuck into. Part one - ATP (00:00 - 40:17) It's been a thrilling week on the ATP side with the return of Jack Draper and Arthur Fils helping to reinvigorate the tour. We discuss Draper's epic win over Novak Djokovic and the technical tweaks which have helped Fils on his return. But will it still be a Carlos Alcaraz - Jannik Sinner final? There's chat about Alcaraz's absurd level against Casper Ruud and Sinner's steel in seeing off a fine performance from Joao Fonseca. Part two - WTA (40:18 - 1:11:48) The matches may not have quite lived up to expectations so far, but there's still been plenty of intrigue. We cover Iga Swiatek's perfect tactics against Karolina Muchova, Aryna Sabalenka displaying how she's evolved her game by beating Naomi Osaka handily, the impressive form of Jessica Pegula, Elena Rybakina and Victoria Mboko, and the worrying pattern of Mirra Andreeva losing her composure in matches. Part three - News (1:11:49 - 1:23:50). We react to reporting in The Athletic about how the ATP and Saudi Arabia plans to reshape the men's tennis calendar by going on a shopping spree and buying back tournament licenses.
