    "An Interview with Charles Adams"

    Charles Adams is the head coach of the North Minneapolis Community High School football team and director of team security for the Minnesota Twins. In 2016, his North High Polars became the first Minneapolis public school to win a state championship since 1976, with Adams becoming the state's first Black coach to achieve the honor. Adams spent twenty years with the Minneapolis Police Department, retiring after Minneapolis Public Schools ended its contract with MPD and eliminated Adams's position as a school resource officer. His story has been featured on HBO's Real Sports, in the New York Times, on National Public Radio, and in Showtime's four-part miniseries, Boys in Blue. He lives just north of Minneapolis.     Raise your voice and make a difference with your very own Face to Face Academy original “Goals Up, Guns Down” T-shirt.  Encouraging youth empowerment and community safety, all proceeds go to the school's innovative and transformative programing. Click the link to purchase: Goals Not Guns Tee Shirt StoreThe Goals not Guns campaign is a first of its kind collaboration between Face to Face Academy, St. Paul's Office of Neighborhood Safety (ONS), and the non-profit Elpis Enterprises dedicated to ending youth homelessness.  The purpose is to raise awareness about gun violence and generate positive ways to address this epidemic. Students were tasked with creating a slogan and matching a design that shifts the narrative to "goals" not "guns."  One slogan/design would then be selected to be featured on a T-shirt sold nationwide.  Out of an astonishing 42 designs submitted (half of the student population), four finalists were chosen: Tyrone Butler (Senior), Vita Lowe (Senior), Angelo Walker (Senior), and Jada Walker (Junior).  At a special Assembly attended by the Minnesota Association of Charter Schools, the Office of Neighborhood Safety, Elpis, the University of St. Thomas, the entire Face to Face Academy student body, and featuring guest speaker, Mayor Melvin Carter, the winner of the campaign was announced.Face to Face Academy is pleased to offer to the public the 1st place T-shirt: “Goals Up, Guns Down” created by Angelo Walker.We are so proud of everyone in our school community for showcasing their courage and creativity during this campaign.  A special thanks to Academy teachers Jennifer Plum & Lucy Voller, Lynnaia Jacobsen (ONS), and Paul Ramsour (Elpis) for spearheading this incredible initiative.  (Outro music by Dave Boquist)Check out more great episodes at f2fpodcastnetwork.com
