The disappearance of 9-year-old Melodee Buzzard is gripping the nation as investigators and the public ask the same urgent question: Where is Melodee? Surveillance footage shows Melodee with her mother, Ashlee Buzzard, before she vanished—but now Ashlee is back home, seen alone, and offering few answers. Adding to the concern, Ashlee was recently arrested on an unrelated charge and quickly released, sparking even more speculation about what she may know, and what she's not saying. In this STS episode, Emmy Award-Winning Journalist Joel Waldman and Co-Host Karmela Waldman break down the latest developments, the timeline, the unanswered questions, and why so many believe Ashlee Buzzard may hold the key to finding Melodee. As police and the community continue searching, the pressure is mounting. Will Melodee be found? What really happened in the hours before she disappeared? And why hasn't Ashlee come forward with more? In this week's episode, I speak with Professor Michael Pluess, renowned temperament researcher, to explore what it really means to have a "sensitive" child. We break down the science behind sensitivity as a key part of temperament, why some kids are more reactive to both positive and negative experiences, and how parenting can shape their outcomes. We discuss the genetic and environmental roots of sensitivity, common misunderstandings around the trait, and what parents can do to support emotional regulation.I WROTE MY FIRST BOOK! Not many parents can sleep real soundly until they know their children are in for the night. At our house, we asked our kids - big teenage guys to stop by our room no matter how late it was and just say, "Hey, we're here." Sometimes they get delayed, or sometimes they're in a situation where they couldn't call. And it's natural, I think, for a mom or a dad to be anxious until they can get a fix on where their kids are, and the great time of relief is when they come in the door and we know everything's okay. Right? I guess some of the most beautiful words in the English language are, "Mom, Dad, I'm home." Maybe you know a child who's way overdue. I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about "Mom, Dad, I'm Home." Our word for today from the Word of God comes from Luke 7, and I'm going to begin reading at verse 12. "As Jesus approached the town gate, a dead person was being carried out; the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. Now, a large crowd from the town was with her. When the Lord saw her, His heart went out to her and He said, 'Don't cry.' Then He went up and touched the coffin, and those carrying stood still." This is truly a dramatic moment here. "He said, "Young man, I say to you, 'Get up!'" The dead man sat up and began to talk. And Jesus gave him back to his Mother. They were all filled with awe and praised God." That's a powerful story! And the most touching words of all for me are these, "And Jesus gave him back to his Mother." You know, Jesus is still in the business of giving children back to their parents, even when it appears hopeless they'll ever come back. Maybe you or someone you know has a son or a daughter who's away right now; spiritually, emotionally, physically. My word of encouragement is this simple word from the Lord. He's still in the business of giving children back to their parents. I don't know, for some reason, I just thought that this day should be the time when we should talk about this for someone who needs that little word of encouragement. Maybe you know better than I do why we're talking about this today. Sometimes maybe it seems like your prayers just are not being answered for the one you love. But remember, much of God's work is invisible. Like plants getting ready to sprout and come out, and flowers blooming in the spring. We don't see anything going on all winter, looks like nothing is going on under the ground. But God is at work all the time. Much that God is doing to bring that child home, you can't see. But you'd better believe it's going on under the ground where you can't see it. Secondly, the hound of heaven - the Holy Spirit - pursues that child wherever he goes. They can get away from you; they can't get away from Him. Thirdly, open arms do more than open mouths to bring kids home. Sometimes we can talk too much and push them so hard we actually push them away from the Lord. The Father of the prodigal son didn't chase the son. He just kept his arms open for him to come home. And then fourthly, remember God does answer prayer. Release that child again to the Lord. Don't try to do God's job of changing that child's heart. I understand that John Newton, the writer of Amazing Grace said his conversion came in a storm at sea with a mast crashing down on him as he cried, "My Mother's God save me!" And her prayers were answered. Continue to claim that child for Jesus Christ. Do not give up! "Be not weary in well doing, for in due season you will reap if you do not give up!" Jesus is still in the business of bringing kids home to their parents and home to Him. Because of His love, I believe one day you will hear, "Mom... Dad... I'm home."

More and more women in the United States are saying no to motherhood. In 2023, the U.S. fertility rate reached the lowest number on record. But the idea of non-motherhood is actually not a new phenomenon, nor did it come out of the modern feminist movement. For centuries, women have made choices about limiting births and whether or not to become mothers at all. This history is documented in a new book, "Without Children: The Long History of Not Being a Mother," by University of Chicago Assistant Instructional Professor Peggy O'Donnell Heffington.Heffington writes about the historic trends of non-motherhood as well as the modern factors that are playing a role in women's choices to not have children today — from lack of structural support in the workplace, to a national law for paid maternity leave, and the sheer lack of affordability. She writes that if these trends continue, American millennials could become the largest childless cohort in history. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. A mother under arrest. A daughter still missing. And an investigation that keeps stretching across states and logic alike. On Hidden Killers with Tony Brueski, we break down the case of 9-year-old Melodee Buzzard, missing since early October 2025. Her mother, Ashlee Buzzard, was arrested November 7 in Santa Barbara County on a felony false-imprisonment charge with $100,000 bail. The sheriff's office insists this arrest is not directly related to Melodee's disappearance — but investigators rarely say those words without a strategy behind them. Here's the chilling timeline: Ashlee rented a white 2024 Chevy Malibu in Lompoc on October 7. Surveillance later captured wigs, and authorities allege a license-plate swap during the trip. The last verified sighting of Melodee occurred near the Utah-Colorado border on October 9. Days later, Ashlee returned to California — without her daughter. Former FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer joins Tony and Stacy Cole to decode what “not directly related” really means — and how investigators may be using this charge as a containment tool while reconstructing Melodee's final known route. From vehicle forensics to cell-tower triangulation and search-grid coordination, we analyze the likely behind-the-scenes maneuvers law enforcement won't yet discuss publicly. We also examine the psychology of silence — when a parent refuses to cooperate, how do investigators keep hope alive without compromising the case? And what should the public be looking for right now that could truly help? This story is still unfolding. And somewhere along that route between Lompoc and Utah, the answers may still exist. #MelodeeBuzzard #AshleeBuzzard #HiddenKillers #TonyBrueski #JenniferCoffindaffer #TrueCrimeToday #MissingChild #FalseImprisonment #SantaBarbara #UtahColoradoBorder Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Kate didn't plan to measure their burnout by the number of bags of pink-and-purple Mother's animal cookies consumed at their desk…but here we are. Kim's clue was a rotating cycle of stomach aches and "maybe these aren't panic attacks but the room is definitely spinning." And our guest, Norlander Wilson, talks about showing up to work without showering or brushing her teeth for days because she literally couldn't. This one is about burnout at work — not the "I need a weekend off" kind, but the kind that rewires your nervous system and convinces you you're the problem. About our guest: Norlander Wilson is an experimental psychologist and an orbit disruptor by calling. She is the founder and CEO of Becoma, an operational strategy firm that helps leaders, creatives, and organizations move from survival mode into clearer systems and healthier energy. Through her work, Norlander blends psychology, strategy, and system design to challenge the patterns that keep people stuck and to create ways of working that don't require self-sacrifice. She's also the host of the podcast "She Don't Work Like That, No More," where she unpacks wounded leadership patterns and reimagines what it means to build, lead, and live without breaking yourself in the process. The theme today: burnout at work, and how project managers — the people everyone counts on — get trapped in it. Norlander doesn't sugarcoat it: "Burnout is a collective conversation, especially in an organization." She calls out how burnout starts at the top. If leadership pushes 100 hours, teams assume they should push 150. If leaders are exhausted, their teams are exhausted. Burnout isn't a personal failing; it's a system failure — and PMs often absorb the blast radius. Kate opens up about their 2024 breakdown: crying daily, losing appetite except for cookies, medical leave, and the creeping belief that if they just tried harder, they could fix everything. Kim shares his own burnout and the helpless feeling of watching teammates slide into it — seeing that "day-five-I-haven't-showered look" on Zoom and wanting to save them. And then there's the half-million-dollar moment. Kate negotiated nearly $500,000/year in compensation and turned it down because walking into the building made them feel sick. Not metaphorically — physically. "I'm not getting on that wheel unless I want to." Norlander validates it: "If it's profound burnout and everything triggers you at that job, yes, it's time to leave." She gives language PMs desperately need: Capacity check-ins, not productivity interrogations Systems that hold boundaries so you don't have to Stop parenting grown adults at work — "You are not an emotional container." Let people fail so they learn the consequence, not you Kim connects it to the "mouse on the wheel" experiment — the difference between choosing to run and being forced to run. The stress chemicals — literally — are not the same. Norlander's tools for burnout prevention and burnout recovery: Audit your systems quarterly Build boundaries into SOPs Protect scheduled joy like you protect deadlines Delegate to the system, not your nervous system Kate shares how protecting Tuesday riding lessons became non-negotiable. Not because horseback riding is magic (although…it kind of is), but because no one else will protect your time but you. Norlander's toast at the end is the line we're all putting on sticky notes: "When you do find your boundary… don't compromise it for anyone." If burnout at work is starting to feel familiar — if you're living on cookies, caffeine, and dread — pull up a chair. You're not lazy. You're not failing. The system is failing you. And if you're tired of carrying the emotional labor for your entire project team, come get some backup and community. Join us at: https://pmhappyhour.com/membership © Project Management Happy Hour
Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski | True Crime News & Commentary
Through the Dicastery of the Doctrine of the Faith, the Vatican recently published a document called "Mater Populi Fidelis," or "Mother of the Faithful People of God," which clarifies different titles for the Blessed Virgin Mary. Father Dave explains the purpose of this document, specifically in reference to the Vatican's rejection of labeling Mary "co-redemptrix" or "co-mediatrix."

If you've ever been told to “stay strong” after loss, episode 386 will change how you see strength. Life coach Shruti Trivedi shares her journey through the loss of three babies and the 11 years she spent suppressing her pain. Through therapy and her “three A's”—acknowledge, accept, and address—she discovered that true healing begins when you stop hiding your grief. Her story is a raw reminder that facing pain is often the first step toward peace. In This Episode, You Will Learn:(00:53) Shruti's introduction and the losses that changed her life(02:04) The 11-year silence before seeking therapy—and how it transformed her healing(05:01) Why pregnancy loss is so misunderstood and often dismissed(08:35) Teaching children emotional honesty through shared grief(10:37) How Shruti helped her daughters honor their twin brothers each year(14:43) What to say—and what not to say—to someone grieving a loss(18:41) How fathers grieve differently and why their pain is often invisible(21:05) The danger of masking pain and the stigma around showing emotion(25:47) The “mental tumor” effect of unspoken grief and how to cleanse it(30:00) Finding peace through naming, remembering, and continuing bonds with lost babiesShruti Trivedi is a Certified Life Coach, PMP®, and founder of Tulsi Heals Life Coaching, where she helps women and parents navigate grief and emotional healing with empathy and structure. After spending over 13 years in IT consulting and leadership, her own experience of losing three babies—one early miscarriage and identical twin boys at 23 weeks—transformed her life's direction. That profound loss inspired her to become an advocate for mental health awareness, emotional resilience, and self-compassion, using both her professional background and personal story to guide others through recovery. In this conversation, Shruti shares how she spent 11 years suppressing her grief before finally seeking therapy, a decision that became the foundation of her healing. She introduces her “three A's” approach—acknowledge, accept, and address—as a framework for moving through pain rather than escaping it. With honesty and warmth, she discusses letting go of guilt, showing vulnerability to her children, and redefining strength as the ability to feel deeply. Her story reminds listeners that healing begins with allowing space for emotion—and that offering presence and compassion often means more than finding the perfect words.Connect with Shruti Trivedi:LinkedInSubstackInstagramYouTubeTikTokLet's Connect: WebsiteInstagramThe Grief and Happiness AllianceBook: Loving and Living Your Way Through Grief Hosted on Acast. Beyond the Page: The Best of the Sun Valley Writers’ Conference
In this episode – recorded live at the 2025 Writers Conference – I have an intimate conversation, in front of 1500 people, with the novelist and poet Ocean Vuong. When he was two years old, in 1990, Ocean immigrated with his family from Vietnam. They settled in East Hartford, CT, seven relatives sharing a one-bedroom apartment. His mother worked at a nail salon. When Ocean learned to read at 11, he became the first literate member of his family. Then he became the first to attend college, eventually earning an MFA in writing from NYU. In 2016, he published his debut poetry collection, “Night Sky with Exit Wounds,” which drew immediate attention and acclaim. In 2019, his first autobiographical novel, “On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous,” written in the form of letters from a Vietnamese American son to his mother, became a bestseller and led to his being awarded a MacArthur Genius grant. By every outward sign, he had seemingly achieved the American Dream as a writer. Then his mother, who'd never been able to read his books, died of cancer. Another celebrated poetry collection, “Time is a Mother,” followed. And now we have Ocean's magnificent second novel, “The Emperor of Gladness.” Photo credit – Tom Hines Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Tyler shares his raw and emotional journey, detailing a chaotic childhood where addiction was the family norm. He recounts the shocking progression of his own drug use, the moment his mother introduced him to heroin, and how his father was the first person to put a needle in his arm. After years of the "jail, rehab, rehab, jail" cycle, hear how the loss of his 'perfect' life and a moment of desperation led him to a permanent path of recovery. Now sober and working at the very treatment center that saved him, Tyler discusses finding his identity, the power of fellowship, and how he navigated the grief of losing both parents while staying clean. In May 2020, on Mother's Day, Suzanne Morphew disappeared after leaving for a bike ride near her Salida, Colorado home. Her husband, Barry Morphew, told investigators she never returned — but beneath the surface was a story of secrets, tangled relationships and a forensic trail that would span years. The first murder charges against Barry were filed in 2021 — then dismissed in 2022 amid prosecutorial misconduct and investigative errors. Many thought the case was over. But when Suzanne's remains were discovered in September 2023 in a remote shallow grave, new evidence emerged: a rare wildlife tranquilizer mixture known as BAM (butorphanol, azaperone, medetomidine) found in her bones, phone and truck telemetry gaps, and the claim that Barry was the only private citizen in the region with access to that drug. In June 2025, a grand jury in Colorado's 12th Judicial District indicted Barry for first-degree murder. The state says this is the break they've waited for; the defense says it's a recycled narrative built on speculation. In this video we walk through: the newly-released forensic findings and how they changed the case what the prosecution now says happened — from tranquilizer to grave to indictment the defense's counter-arguments: contamination, missing weapon, precedent of a failed case the emotional fallout: Suzanne's daughters, the community watching, the husband who insists he's innocent what's next: upcoming hearings, potential trial timing, and how this case reflects on the justice system Whether you're a longtime follower of true-crime or coming in fresh — this story is about more than who did it. It's about how evidence is built (and rebuilt), how time changes a case, and how truth sometimes hides in the crevices of data, memory and motive. #BarryMorphew #SuzanneMorphew #TrueCrime #ColdCase #AnimalTranquilizer #BAMdrug #ColoradoCrime #JusticeDelayed #Podcast #HiddenKillersStyle Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video?
