Knoxville Recreation Center Wellness Supervisor Angie Jones discusses the Rec Center’s Silver Sneakers Program.
Have you noticed big, new monitors all around the Dublin Community Recreation Center? New cardio machines and free weights? And the super easy way to scan into the Rec Center with the app? There's so much going on, and there's about to be a lot more! A big refresh is beginning that'll bring even more space and programming to your wellness journey. Since so many people look to reset in a new year, we thought it would be the perfect time to talk about all the exciting things at the DCRC with our Recreation Administrator of Corporate and Community Wellness, Mollie Steiner. Fortunately for us, Mollie isn't big on the word “resolution,” so Lindsay and Bruce ask her for motivational ways to work toward a wellness goal that involves having fun, finding joy and practicing self-care. She also shares her very best advice for staying motivated throughout the year and not just here at the beginning. Plus, the wellness trends to look for in 2025! This episode brings with it a very personal story, too; Mollie shares some incredible highs and truly scary lows as a parent. Her daughter, Abby, is a world-class athlete and former college All-American who tried out for the U.S. Olympic team this past summer. Her other daughter got a cancer diagnosis while she was in high school at Dublin Coffman. Mollie's personal and professional journey has been one of commitment to wellness, helping others and living in gratitude. Lessons that'll hopefully always be trendy and never go out of style.

Governor Maura Healy is sending all of the illegal aliens living at Logan Airport to a recreation center in Roxbury Massachusetts. All of the children and families that use this recreation center are now without a place to send their children until at least May 31. Liz “Pocahontas” Warren single-handedly destroyed the merger between Amazon and iRobot costing iRobot employees, 350 jobs. There are more layoffs on the horizon. We also talk briefly about Mayor Michelle Wu, putting together a committee to study whether or not the government should pay reparations! Wake up America! These tyrants are destroying our country!
The Melnea Cass Recreational Complex in Roxbury opened its doors to house migrants. The 400-bed temporary overflow shelter site will be up and running until June of this year. Protesters gathered outside the complex today, to which Gov. Healey said, “we're here today because we really don't have a choice.”

Back in the day, there used to be a place called a “Rec Center” which was like an analog VRChat room. It had a basketball court, N64, an arts and crafts and usually pizza… and it was lit! Many historical problems have been settled over one night while locked in a rec center… Bloods vs Crips, East Coast vs West Coast, the list goes on. I think you know where we're going with this. We also talk about the new Adam22 reality show, Fishtank season 1 and much much more!

What happens when a feminist logroller comes to your town? Naturally, the next generation of logrolling champions are produced. Born into a family of world-champion log rollers (mom, Judy Scheer-Hoeschler see wikipedia), Abby Hoeschler Delaney, continues the tradition of paying it forward. Not only does she compete professionally and teach others this unique sport, she's making it more accessible to all of us with the invention of the Key Log. Keenly aware that transporting and storing a 500-pound cedar wood log is a major hindrance for expanding the sport, Abby decided it was time for a technological advancement in the sport. She worked with engineers to design and manufacture a portable synthetic log. Today, Key Log Rolling has sold almost 2000 Key Logs and helped start nearly 500 log rolling programs in all 50 states and 9 countries—all with the goal to make log rolling an Olympic sport. Rent one! Buy one for your recreation program! Try it out at your local Rec Center- if they don't have one, ask them to buy one. On June 18th, a shooting at an unsanctioned party at an empty office building in downtown St. Louis left 11 teens injured and one 17-year-old dead, sparking outrage and calls for action to address youth violence. Two St. Louis teens, Justin Boyle and Jeremiah Miller, say they need more than extended hours at recreation centers to feel safe, and they share their lived experiences as young Black men as they offer ideas on ways local leaders can better engage young people about preventing violence.
