R&B stands for Rhythm and Blues. In SZA's latest album SOS she expressed a lot of her emotions, and SOS did great on the charts. So would you now consider SZA the queen of R&B? We think yes! But is this kind of expression healthy? Revisiting songs on her CTRL album SZA made it known that she has multiple insecurities. We understand that music is art, but we aren't sure how healthy this form of art is. We bring up Mary J Blige, a great R&B singer, and Mary J Blige's music is an example of what we would call Sad Girl Music. Another artist we can think of that puts out similar music is Giveon. Most of his songs are about heartbreak which you could consider his music Sad Boy Music. The songs are great to vibe and listen to but we are worried about how these artists are doing mentally. The guys of Face The Music Podcast discuss his newest song called Procrastination. He released this song a little differently than usual. J. Cole ripped the beat from youtube by searching "J Cole type beat" and the first one he found he rapped on. Once the song was finished he sent it to the producer for him to release it exclusively on his YouTube page. This was a very cool idea but as you listen to the song you realize that J. Cole is rapping about his writer's block. J. Cole is known for songs like Dollar & A Dream where he raps about being low on funds but still chasing his dream. Years later J Cole has money and is at the top of the music industry and is struggling with the inspiration to rap from this new point of view. What do you think? Has J. Cole lost his inspiration to rap or will he continue to be at the top of the music industry? This is a clip from Ep: 66 Sad Girl LET'S STAY CONNECTED! The guys discuss why the Ed Reed and Bethune Cookman situation is so crazy. The guys are all NC A&T alums so any conversation about HBCUs hit close to home. They discuss J. Cole - Procrastination song where he snatched a J Cole type beat off of YouTube and sent it to the producer. This was extremely cool because music producers are always last to receive love for their music. So this was a big deal for J. Cole to be willing to do this. In the song, J Cole expressed his humble beginnings and how hard it was to make music on top of the work. Finally, we discussed the SZA - SOS album and what we liked about it and didn't like. Does SZA make Sad Girl Music? And is this type of music a healthy form of expression? LET'S STAY CONNECTED!
