Two decades on from the ecstatic electronic pop and rap that made her one of the most significant, ear-opening stars in music, the Sri Lankan-British singer M.I.A. returned in April with “M.I.7,” her seventh album and first in four years, documenting her latest swerve, this time toward born-again Christianity. Last week, she sued Kid Cudi for breach of contract after being removed from his tour in May following her onstage comments about “illegal” immigrants. Before filing her lawsuit, she sat down with Joe and Jon to discuss whether her legacy of incitement has been an obstacle to her legacy of art, how she's been both welcomed and rejected by either side of the American political spectrum and her recent spiritual awakenings. - Watch the episode here Subscribe today at nytimes.com/podcasts or on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. A major legal battle is brewing in the music industry as M.I.A. files a staggering $28 million lawsuit against Kid Cudi, claiming she was wrongfully removed from his tour due to her outspoken political views and public statements. Is this a case of free speech being punished, or does an artist have the right to protect their brand and business interests? On this episode of The Arrington Gavin Show, Arrington breaks down the allegations, the legal arguments, and the broader questions surrounding free expression, cancel culture, artist accountability, and the business realities of the entertainment industry. We'll discuss:

Was Dave Macklovitch right about the Hedi Boy revival? Is Hedi Slimane's skinny-jeans-and-leather-jacket universe bigger than fashion? And what happens to musicians when AI can make the record but not the room?Sol and Michael sit down with the podcast's favorite well-dressed unc, Dave Macklovitch of Chromeo, for his second episode and a proper apology tour after the 2025 Hedi Slimane craze proved him right. The trio explore the Hedi Boy phenomenon, Celine skinny jeans, Dior Homme codes, Saint Laurent leather jackets, indie sleaze, Grailed resellers, archive fashion, and why the looks that last are never just clothes—they come with music, photography, nightlife, diet, attitude, community, and a whole lifestyle system.Further, Dave connects that idea to Chromeo, explaining how the band built an 80s funk world through contrast rather than costume, why charisma still matters in the age of Suno AI and AI-generated music, and how the “human avatar” may become even more important as the back end gets automated. They also discuss Kid Cudi's “Day 'N' Nite,” Fool's Gold Records, the birth of modern emo rap, Lil Peep, Yung Lean, Clams Casino, Lil Uzi Vert, Geese, DJ Sneak, Daft Punk, Radiohead, Kanye West, A$AP Rocky, and the strange grace we give artists after their best albums. On the fashion side, they talk Aimé Leon Dore as integrated fashion, Supreme and Dior Homme coffee machines, Rick Owens lifers, Tom Ford's symbolic universe, Haider Ackermann, Berluti cowboy boots, Soshiotsuki, Anthony Vaccarello, Demna at Gucci, Kozaburo, how to interact with Thom Browne on a budget, Balmain by Christophe Decarnin, moto denim, Saint Laurent patina, eBay archive finds, vintage Abercrombie, CDLP, DEVOA, Issey Miyake, and why brands that sell a world—not just a garment—keep winning. We hope you enjoy this one as much as we did.Questions answered in this episode:- Why is Hedi Slimane influential?- What is a Hedi Boy?- Are skinny jeans coming back?- Why are Celine skinny jeans popular again?- What is integrated fashion?- Why do fashion brands sell lifestyle now?- What makes a brand universe successful?- How do music and fashion influence each other?- Why do Supreme, CELINE, Dior Homme, Saint Laurent, Rick Owens, and Tom Ford create such strong cultural identities?- How will AI music change musicians?- Will AI replace artists?- Why does charisma matter in live performance?- Why was Kid Cudi's “Day 'n' Nite” important?- Why is A$AP Rocky considered a fashion artist?- What makes archive fashion valuable?- How do Grailed, eBay, and Discogs shape taste?- What brands are exciting right now? This week on The Higher Standard, we break down hotter inflation, Warsh's awkward Fed handoff, housing cracks, rising delinquencies, and why “resilient economy” may be the new “transitory.” Then we get into the big one: AI may be destroying the moat that terminal valuations are built on. If innovation moves so fast that no company can confidently project cash flows five to ten years out, venture capital math starts looking less like investing and more like praying with a spreadsheet. Also, apologies in advance: we had to silence the Big Boi interview with Kid Cudi due to a copyright restriction, which is tragic because Big Boi talking Pokémon deserved its own emergency Fed meeting.

Our old friend, echoey audio, rears it's ugly head again on this episode. Not quite as bad as the Childish Gambino but you can't say I didn't warn you. One of these days I'll learn to consistently work a noise gate so this stops happening. This week we're covering titans of the early 2010's indie pop/rock scene, Sleigh Bells and their sophomore album Reign in Terror. Simultaneously more catchy and clean and pop focused than their debut, Treats, while also being decidedly more guitar focused. We discuss what the music scene was like at the time, as well as how this band was insanely ahead of their time and would end up being one of the influential pillars for what would eventually become hyperpop. The vinyl I have is the standard release as far as I'm aware. This album came out right around when I started collecting so I bought it near release at a record store, probably Horizon Records or maybe Earshot if they were still around by this point. The jacket is slightly taller than your average record which may be an aesthetic choice or it may be to house the collection of art prints the album came with that I sadly lost over the years. Either way it's a great sounding, 180g black vinyl.News corner this week is a little all over the place. Bouncing around from MIA getting herself fired from the Kid Cudi tour, to talking about the recent epidemic of shows and tours getting canceled due to low ticket sales, and we even briefly mention the very real and serious feud between Earl Sweatshirt and JPEGMAFIA.Instagram - @MBFrecordspodAmanda's IG/TikTok/YouTube - @MothraLunaJason's Discogs - https://www.discogs.com/user/FrequencyShift/collection Theme music by SHADE08 x 80root on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bewQPpTnfgg&list=PPSVHosted on Ausha. It's time for our annual 420 special — and things are getting elevated. In this episode of Live, Laugh, Larceny: A True Petty Crime Podcast, Trevin and Amanda celebrate with chaotic stories, munchie-fueled dilemmas, and drug-related petty crimes. Trevin's taco night dilemma leads to a surprising discovery: mini taco shells might be the ultimate munchies snack. Amanda brings the cravings too, diving into the new McDonald's K-pop meal and lamenting a missed sauce opportunity. For a special one-time segment, the crew shares their dream blunt rotation — from Kid Cudi to a mix of comedy and music influences that are nearly impossible to narrow down. Amanda's story follows Afroman (Joseph Foreman) and the fallout from a police raid on his home, the music it inspired, and the legal battle that followed. Trevin takes us to the UK, where Ian Cloughton turned Home Alone into a criminal blueprint — using booby traps and DIY security to protect his drug operation. From raids to ridiculous decisions, this 420 episode proves crime and creativity don't always mix.

In ABR Episode 439, Airey Bros Radio sits down with Devin Fahey, Head Cross Country Coach at Cerro Coso College (3C2A), after one of the most impressive first-year JUCO coaching seasons in California community college cross country. In Year 1, Fahey led Cerro Coso to program-first milestones, including their first team score, a conference podium finish, a SoCal Regional appearance, and the program's first-ever 3C2A State Championship qualifier. Devin breaks down how he built a culture of psychological safety + accountability, why “show a sign of life” was the perfect early-season standard, and what it really takes to recruit and develop athletes at the community college / junior college level. We also dig into Devin's coaching influences — including his time as a Division I athlete at the University of Houston under Steve Magness and as a coach at Gonzaga under legendary Pat Tyson — plus why Cerro Coso's high desert trails, facilities, and affordability can be a sneaky advantage for JUCO runners looking to level up.If you're a high school runner, JUCO prospect, distance coach, or someone who loves the behind-the-scenes reality of building a program from scratch, this one is packed with value.Fueled by Black Sheep Endurance Coaching
Most people think you need money to build a business. Blake Mycoskie proves you need creativity, conviction, and resilience. He built TOMS from $3,000 into a $600 million exit and launched multiple bootstrapped ventures, revealing what it really takes to start from nothing. In this raw conversation, Blake shares the frameworks behind businesses started with almost no capital — including a $500 laundry service that made $100K in three days and a $1,500 driver's ed company. He explains why too much funding can hurt startups, how he cold-called Kid Cudi into becoming a founding partner, why industry experience can limit innovation, and his “utility marketing” approach — showing real value instead of selling hype. Blake also opens up about the depression that followed his success, waking at 3 AM with suicidal thoughts, and the healing journey that led to Enough, his mental health movement. He discusses lessons from failure at TOMS, using AI therapy during panic attacks, confronting his core belief of “I'm not enough,” mantra meditation, scheduling joy, walking the Camino, and why bold goals should be held loosely. This is practical entrepreneurship and personal transformation from someone who built millions from pocket change and found purpose beyond profit. Ready to turn your newsletter into your career? We’ve been had the debate if Jim Jones made Kid Cudi, but it went viral on the internet after Cudi had a few words for Jim Jones. Do we need to be humbled as New Yorkers, though?
