If you follow the social chat, there is no doubt that the groundbreaking Dodge Charger Daytona is the most controversial car to come down the road in decades. In what might be termed a fan's love-hate relationship, Dodge's first all-electric muscle car is poised to redefine the segment with amazing capabilities, but it's clear some folks don't want the segment to be redefined. At the same time, many are cheering the innovative Dodge, saying it points musclecars in the right direction. This week, we dive right into the deep end of that pool, as Host Jack Nerad not only road-tested both soon-to-be-available versions of the battery-electric musclecar but also conducted an exclusive interview with its Chief Engineer, Audrey Moore. We'll have all that for you in this week's show. No matter how you feel about battery-electric performance cars, there is no doubt that the Dodger Charger Daytona is a runner. Combining blistering performance with cutting-edge technology, the sleek two-door is offered in a pair of high-performance trims: the R/T and the Scat Pack. The R/T delivers 496 horsepower and 404 lb-ft of torque, while the Scat Pack produces a jaw-dropping 670 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque. In its highest-performance form, the Scat Pack rockets from 0-60 mph in just 3.3 seconds and completes the quarter-mile in an estimated 11.5 seconds. Beyond the numbers, Dodge has designed the Charger Daytona to retain its musclecar soul with its controversial Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust that produces a simulated engine roar. Both trims also offer a PowerShot feature for an instant 40-horsepower boost, multi-mode drive settings, and advanced safety and connectivity options via the Uconnect 5 system. Nerad sampled all of it in Chandler, Arizona. Road Test Vehicles The 2025 Land Rover Defender continues to uphold its reputation as a rugged yet refined off-roader, offering unmatched capability for adventure seekers. Co-Host Chris Teague tested the Defender in Maine's challenging winter conditions, where it excelled with its advanced all-wheel-drive system, configurable Terrain Response modes, and impressive ground clearance. The Defender's iconic design blends heritage with modern sophistication, and Teague will tell how it fared during his weeklong test. The Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter is Toyota's answer to the overlanding trend, purpose-built for off-road enthusiasts who crave the wilderness. Jack Nerad explored all its capabilities, including the i-Force Max hybrid engine delivering 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. The Trailhunter boasts a unique suspension co-developed with ARB, featuring 2.5-inch forged monotube shocks and rock rails for extreme terrain. If you're counting, the 2023 Dodge Charger R/T Scat Pack Swinger is the fourth of seven special-edition Dodge “Last Call” models and it offers a nostalgic look back to the unique style of the Dodge brand's “swinging” musclecar lineup of the late 1960s and early 1970s. The original Dodge Dart Swinger was part of the Dodge “Scat Pack,” packing big-time horsepower into a compact package at an affordable price. It offered the aesthetics of the era that included green-on-green interior/exterior color combinations, gold color accents, and plastic wood interior trim. The Charger Scat Pack Swinger reaches back to that past for inspiration, delivering a throwback exterior and interior appearance, whether you want it or not. Only 1,000 2023 Dodge Charger R/T Scat Pack Swingers will be produced, as a Widebody model. If you want the classic green-on-green Swinger you can choose from F8 Green and Sublime Green exterior color options, with a White Knuckle option also available. More important is the naturally aspirated 392 Hemi V-8 with a best-in-class 485 horsepower in the Scat Pack model tested by co-host Chris Teague. Host Jack Nerad has a completely different road test this week. It's a road test that doesn't examine a particular car but, instead, an entire transportation infrastructure. On their recent road trip in Europe, Jack and his wife used only public transportation during their two weeks of traveling in Denmark, Germany, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland. If you're interested in purchasing a vehicle, why not considering buying a new car that's nearly two years old? There's a huge inventory of 2019 vehicles available, particularly for consumers interested in Dodge. Here's the deal. The covid-19 pandemic stalled production of 2020 models for carmakers and resulted in the temporary closing of many car dealerships. Sales suffered. The 2019 Dodge Caravan is available for sale as a new car despite being nearly two years old. But a positive emerged from the health crisis, and Julie Blackley, an analyst at iseecars.com, is our guest on this week's episode of The Weekly Driver Podcast to discuss the issue. Dodge Caravan: New Car, Nearly Age 2 Co-hosts Bruce Aldrich and James Raia talk with Blackley and she details the reasons why such large inventories of 2019 vehicles are available from different manufacturers. According to iSeeCars.com, the online automotive search engine and research website based in Woburn, Mass., there's a 10.8 percent industry average of new 2019 vehicles still in inventory. Surprisingly, some models, dubiously led by the Dodge Grand Caravan, have six times the national average of 2019 vehicles still in inventory. The top-20 vehicles on the list all have at least 20 percent of 2019 inventory available. Of course, not all of the list's vehicles are available in every state. iSeeCars.com analyzed its national inventory of more than 1 million new cars for sale to determine which models have more inventory from the 2019 model year available. “These cars provide opportunities for buyers to get a good deal on a new vehicle and are likely to come with generous incentives,” the website's analysts wrote. “A surplus of vehicles from the 2019 model year might remain on dealer lots because a car's popularity is declining because car buyers want to wait for an upcoming redesign, or because dealers simply have too much inventory,” said Phong Ly, the iSeeCars.com CEO. “More significant deals may be found on its remaining 2019 inventory, so consumers must examine their options for both model years and understand their negotiating power on 2019 vehicles.” Three additional Dodge models made the list including the third-ranked Dodge Journey, 11th-ranked Dodge Challenger and 18th-ranked Dodge Charger. “Discontinued after 2020, the Dodge Journey is limiting its trim and engine options for its final year, and is only advertising deals on its new 2019 models which include up to $5,000 off MSRP,” said Ly. “Meanwhile, the Dodge Charger saw record sales in 2019, but buyers may be opting for 2020 versions that have wider wheelbases including the SRT Hellcat and Scat Pack models.” The 2020 Dodge Grand Caravan is not available in 13 states due to emissions regulations, so dealers in those states are only selling new vehicles from the 2019 model year. Current offers on a 2019 Grand Caravan include $4,250 cash allowance and 0.9 percent APR financing for 84 months. Generous incentives are being offered on 2020 Charger and Challenger models including zero-percent financing and between $3,050 to $7,970 cashback. Similar to the Journey, another discontinued American car made the list: the Chevrolet Impala. “Although a reliable and highly-rated car, the discontinuation of the Impala shows that the large sedan isn't in high demand,” said Ly. By segment, minivans, led by the Dodge Grand Caravan, have the largest available inventory, 66. 3 percent. Compact luxury SUVs have the least available inventory, 14.3 percent. Here's the list of the top-20 vehicles in the United States with the largest percentage of new vehicles remaining in inventory from 2019. 1. Dodge Grand Caravan, 66.3 percent; 2.
