Motion economy, developing telepathy, and the purge of the fridge magnets. David Ruiz (SadGirl, The Paranoyds, Minitruck) The Paranoyds “I Like It Here”- https://theparanoyds.bandcamp.com "The Paranoyds have the kind of connection people only dream of: as non-biological sisters who have known each other longer than they haven't and speak a language that no one else can understand. With a bond that began in preschool, Laila Hashemi (keys/vocals) and Lexi Funston (guitar/vocals) were always inseparable, so when they met Staz Lindes (bass/vocals) in ninth grade, it felt like they had known her all along. After all, they were a “package deal.” In high school, they began making music together in a friend's laundry room and their relationship just blossomed from there. When it came time to add in a drummer, David Ruiz, who joined the band in 2015, fit in like he had been there all along. It's that special bond that has solidified their relationship as bandmates who connect seamlessly to one another's energy on stage—and best friends. And it's the one thing that has remained a constant throughout the past two years." Welcome back, y'all! The Wild Women are back and today we are talking fashion and bad messages from movies!First, Suzanne and Nikole do a horrible job at describing outfits from this year's SAG awards, but do a phenomenal job at giving their opinions. Next, the women dive into how absolutely messed up movies directed at girls were during the 80s to early 2000s. Y'all! Why was there always some sort of ILLEGAL (or almost illegal) age gap? Why was the girl (because these characters were seniors in high school at the oldest) always told to change everything about herself to fit in? Why did we eat this stuff up with a spoon? We want to hear about YOUR problematic movie experiences. Until next time, Stay wild and Stay Witchy!
«Sharon Van Etten & The Attachment Theory» ist unser brandneues Sounds! In the spirit of his uncomfortable challenge, we asked Nedd Brockmann a series of uncomfortable questions. Mercifully, he leaned into what could have been a disastrous premise. It was all on the table; failing to reach his stated goals. Whether he is sick of people pumping up his tires. Facing those who do the opposite. If he is capable of having a relationship given the nature of his pursuits. Fear (or lack of) about what will happen to his body and much more. From the darkness, a cosmic collision of sound and fury gave light, and life, to Sydney Sleadd & The Swarm. You can find them cooking up variations on some “midwestern sad-girl surf grunge” to serve alongside your daily cup of Café Bustelo. With sounds that span the back porch, to the beach shack, to the backroads at night…there's something here on the menu for every appetite. This cast of merry misfits boasts a Harley-riding pistol-packing punk, a former guest on Jerry Springer, a recidivist hitchhiker, and a rising rap-star-turned-bassist. While remaining true to Americana roots, Sydney & The Swarm each bring their own flavor, genre, and curated sound to a bespoke mish-mash of down-home twang, coupled with sad-babe soliloquy, and rusted-roof grunge aplenty. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/tophillrecording/support

Born in London before moving to Southern California at the age of seven, Misha was raised by an American father (a musician who played guitar in Dire Straits) and British mother (a former model and "pretty creative lady," he tells me over the phone). "Growing up in a musical household, I assumed that you just sort of pick an instrument you wanted to play and then announced that you played it. So as a kid, I claimed forever that I played the bass, but I never properly practiced, or even owned one." When word got around at school, Misha was top playground pick for the upcoming competition. In this week's episode, we dive into the evolution of the 'sad girl' archetype from music and art to influencer culture. We first cover what 'sad girl' means, which celebrities have become successful from presenting this way, and why it could be considered controversial. We finish by looking at how 'sad girl' has evolved with influencer culture with the likes of creators like Emma Chamberlain and Madeline Argy, and why we think this archetype resonates so much with Gen Z. Our theme this month was suggested by our patron Mary, who asked us to talk about so-called 'sad girl novels', and it turns out we have some strong opinions! So, listen in as we get to grips with what the term 'sad girl' really means - is it just reductive and misogynistic, or is it getting at something? Was Madame Bovary the original literary sad girl? Is it simply a marketing term or has it become problematic trope in publishing? Have we moved on from book covers with women face down in cakes on them? Plus all the usual recommendations.
