Welcome to the hellscape that is 2025! We are back in the cave for episode 237, this time looking at two films from 1973, both shot largely in the Phillipines and both featuring dangerous women! We start off with "Devil Woman" which is known by several different names (and also listed with a variety of release dates) which focuses on a magical woman with snakes for hair who is seeking revenge on the people that killed her family. It's low-budget fun but not "good" by any metric. We follow that with "Wonder Women" fom show-favorite direct Robert Vincent O'Neil and with a stellar cast lead by Ross Hagen and Nancy Kwan. The plot revolves around an evil scientist with a money-making scheme to transplant healthy body parts from unwilling donors onto the bodies of rich people. Along comes agent Hagen who settles everybody's hash! It's a blast from beginning to end! Please let us know what you thought of the show, and send us some suggestions for future episodes. Please consider episode 236 to be our late Christmas present to you all! We are looking at two recent films from director Ryan Kruger, starting off with Fried Barry from 2020. This is such a trippy, insane and full-tilt experience that it might leave you scratching your head the first time you watch it. This isn't a bad thing since it only gets better each time you watch it! We follow that up with 2024's Street Trash, which is a sequel to the 1987 film of the same name. Though it has moments where it seems like it's trying to make a point about corporations and society, it's really just a really fun Troma-inspired movie with some great splattery effects, and some genuinely hilarious comedy. We highly recommend BOTH films! Please let us know what you thought of the show, and send us some suggestions for future episodes. You can email us at flickersfrom@yahoo.com or flickersfrom@gmail.com. It has become a tradition around Halloween that we find movies that deal with our ACTUAL fears. For this episode, Mike has revealed his own fear of getting old and the changes that come along with that. We start off with 2014's "Taking of Deborah Logan", which focuses on an elderly woman, fading into senility who allows her day-to-day activities to be filmed as part of a study of alzheimer's disease. Things quickly swing into the supernatural, growing steadily into pure horror. We follow that up with 2024's "The Substance" starring Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley as opposite sides of the same coin. Moore is an aging celebrity who gets a mysterious offer to try a process that will release a younger version of herself. She can't resist the temptation and we meet her younger version played by Qualley. This movie has a LOT to say about Hollywood, aging, society and so much more. Both of these films are worth watching, and force the viewer to consider their own twilight years. Please let us know what you thought of the show, and send us some suggestions for future episodes. After a VERY long break, we're finally back with a new episode saluting the legendary Roger Corman! We chose two films he directed that are EXTREMELY different from each other. We start with 1964's science fiction flick "X the Man with the X-Ray Eyes" starring Oscar-winner Ray Milland as a scientist who wants to expand the range of human vision. He develops a serum that he tests on himself that ends up giving him the ability to see through various things. It's a great story of human folly and the mysteries of the universe. Really great stuff. We follow that with 1967's "The Secret Invasion", a classic war movie where a group of convicts are recruited for an "impossible mission". A great cast and top-notch plotting make this thing riveting from beginning to end. It should be no surprise that we were completely impressed with both movies! Mr Corman will be sorely missed but he has left behind a mountain of work that we will certainly be revisiting. It's been a LONG time since our last episode, but we are returning with something VERY special. Steve Barkett is a one-of-a-kind filmmaker who we had never heard of but who left us with two really great examples of low-budget sci-fi magic. We start with his first directing effort, 1982's "The Aftermath". In the film, Barkett is part of the crew of a spaceship that returns to Earth to find it has gone through an apocalyptic event and the world is run by gangs of vicious thugs. With special effects from some of the best in the business, it rises above it's many restrictions and tells a fun story with a ton of heart. We follow that with Barkett's second and final directing job "Empire of the Dark" from 1990. The story here is much more complicated, with evil cults, magical portals, alternate dimensions and various additional bits and pieces. This is another fun story with a few standout moments, and once again packed with a ton of heart. You can tell with both of these movies that Barkett and his team really cared about what they were doing and gave their all. It's hard to fault that sort of filmmaking and we strongly encourage you to watch both! Please let us know what you thought of the show, and send us some suggestions for future episodes. With a great cast including Vera Miles, Clu Gulager and Daphne Zuniga, it's a twisty little tale of a college student with a cloudy past that all comes to light during a sorority initiation. It's a solid slasher with some fun reveals. We follow that with 1987's "Blood Sisters" from director Roberta Findlay. It also focuses on a sorority ceremony with a group of pledges. They are sent to a seemingly haunted house to spend the night but things quickly go awry. It's very low budget but manages to overcome that limitation in surprising ways. Western films made in Italy are very special to us in the cave. They turn the American version of the genre on its ear and give a whole new way to view that era. We look at two interesting examples on this episode of the podcast. We start off with the epically titled "Django Kill! If You Live, Shoot!" from 1967. Directed by Giulio Questi and starring Tomas Milian as "The Stranger" it's a twisty tale of revenge set in a surreal western town, and the film frequently lapses into bizareness. It's quite a ride! We follow that up with show-favorite director Lucio Fulci's 1975 film "The Four of the Apocalypse". Filled with Fulci's signature violence, this one gets REALLY brutal and then rips your heart out at the end with some real emotion. It's quite an accomplishment. Welcome back to the 70's in the cave this time as we celebrate the two films of Warhawk Tanzania. We start off with Force Four from 1975 where Tanzania is part of a 4-person team that are assigned special missions by an unknown group. Their mission in the movie is to recover a stolen African artifact, but to do so is going to require a LOT of martial arts, and this movie really piles it on. We follow that with his starring role in 1976's Devil's Express. This really shows how magnetic he is and how tragic it is that we never got to see him continue as a leading man. The story this time is focused on an ancient Chinese demon that escapes to the USA and hides in the New York city subway, where it goes on a murderous rampage. Tanzania really turns it up in this one and we also get to see some really excellent supporting actors helping with the heavy lifting. Though both films are recommended, Devil's Express is really the jewel. Both movies are available on free streaming sites, and we urge you to check them out! As we kick off 2024, we are changing a few things in the cave. We are staying true to our mission of finding strange little movies and telling you about them, but we're making some small adjustments to the overall format. To begin the new year, we're looking at two films about movie-fans who are more than a little bit out of control. As fanatics ourselves, these both struck pretty close to home! We start off with "Fade to Black" from 1980. Starring Dennis Christopher and with a fun appearance from the always-great Tim Thomerson, the story focuses on an obsessive movie fan who finds a Marilyn Monroe look-a-like and then goes murderously off the ledge. It's fun with some great cameos and cool location footage of late 90's Hollywood. We follow that with 1991's "Popcorn" which has a team of film students at a local college organizing a festival of B movies. Once the festival begins, they fall prey to a mysterious killer one by one. It also includes the "mysterious lost film" trope which we love, to really pump up the enjoyment. Is it a perfect movie? No. But, is it a lot of fun? Yes! Please let us know what you thought of the show, and send us some suggestions for future episodes. There is something undeniably freaky about puppets and mannequins. This time in the cave we look at two movies which feature this fact at the core of their stories. We start off with "Magic" from 1978. Directed by Richard Attenborough and starring true Hollywood heavyweights Anthony Hopkins, Ann-Margaret and Burgess Meredith, and with a script by the legendary William Goldman, based on his own novel...it's no suprise that it's great! This is a dark tale of derangement and psychosis, with young Anthony Hopkins turning in a powerful performance. It's great, watch it! We follow that with 1988's "Pin" from director Sandor Stern. This is a bizarre family drama where a strict father has convinced his children that the medical mannequin in his office can speak. Using ventriliquism, he lets the mannequin handle key moments of fatherly advice and this produces two VERY disturbed children who grow up to be VERY disturbed teenagers. It's weird and disturbing but also well-shot and assembled. Listen in to find out if it sounds like it's for you. We then proceed to list the various things we've been watching for fun. We start off with the abysmal "The Clown Murders" from 1976. Directed by Martyn Burke, who've we talked about before, this is a fully Canadian production with some familiar faces in the cast, including the late great John Candy! The story is more complicated than it needs to be and the script wanders here and there, leaving the viewer dissatisfied and confused. We follow that up with the surprising "Blood Harvest" from 1987. Directed by the legend Bill Rebane and starring the famous weirdo Tiny Tim, this one really delivers the goods! What's most surprising is that the whole thing was shot in 2 days and, viewed with that in mind, this is essentially perfect. We then proceed to list the various things we've been watching for fun. This one has been a long time coming! We have been wanting to cover the work of Ron Ormond since we first stepped into the cave, many years ago! He has been slowly gaining more recognition recently and a box set of his films has been released. Starting out on stage, he moved into films and had a successful run making exploitation movies primarily for drive-in audiences. After an accident in a small plane which he survived, he became a devout christian and redirected his efforts toward religious and anti-communist propaganda. This guy really does have the goods and the two films we look at on this episode REALLY prove it! We start off with "White Lightnin' Road" from 1967. Filled with moonshiners and stock car racers, this one really hits the sweet spot. There is romance, action, deceit and murder in this one and it's all wonderfully over-the-top yet still extremely captivating. There is some sort of bizarre magic going on that makes this stuff work...it's really something you have to see to believe. We follow that with 1968's "The Exotic Ones" where a strip club in New Orleans captures a swamp monster and displays it as a way to attract a crowd. The lighting is lurid, the strippers are badass, the criminals are ruthless and it's sheer perfection all the way down! If it's not obvious at this point, we LOVED both movies and can't wait to watch more from Mr. Ormond, especially some of the later, religiously-focused stuff! We then proceed to list the various things we've been watching for fun. Please let us know what you thought of the show, and send us some suggestions for future episodes. For the epically-long episode 224 we look at two dark comedies with cannibalism at their core. We start off with the 1980 classic "Motel Hell" from show-favorite director Kevin Connor. It focuses on "Farmer Vincent" played by Rory Calhoun and his sister Ida, played by Porky's-own Nancy Parsons. They run the "Motel Hello" and are known all across the local area as the purveyors of "Farmer Vincent's Smoked Meats" which we find out are made from waylaid motorists who are trapped, buried in the ground to be fattened up and then butchered and smoked. It isn't a total success but it's an interesting curio from bygone days with a few standout moments that should be seen at least once. We follow this with the seemingly zero-budget "Auntie Lee's Meat Pies" from 1997. This is really a thing that has to be seen to be believed. Starring Karen Black as Auntie Lee, Michael Berryman as her bumbling son and Pat Morita as the local sherrif, the cast is definitely stacked for a movie at this level. The story is essentially that Auntie Lee, who worships Satan, takes bad men and turns them into delicious meat pies. Auntie Lee has a gorgeous squad of young women who go out into the world and tempt these bad men into situations where they can be captured and killed and brought back for processing. Directed by Joseph F. Robertson, who mostly has done adult films, this is a weird combination of trippy moments, soft-core sexiness and over-acting! Trust us, it's a completely unique experience. His recently-ophaned twin neices come to town and coincidentally so does a vampire who seeks to turn one of the girls into the undead. We follow this up with 1972's "Vampire Circus", where we see a different European village beset by a horde of vampires that travel across the countryside putting on shows for the locals and feasting on anyone they can capture. Both of these are fun escapes and have plenty of surprises and twists. We highly recommend both! We then proceed to list the various things we've been watching for fun. We start off with "Psycho Beach Party" from 2000 which is a mash-up of the old beach party movies from the 50's and 60's combined with a bit of the "teens running amok" films, but with all of that projected through a modern lens and presented in a campy, tongue-in-cheek send up of all those genres. The campiness continues with our second film, 2003's "Die Mommie Die" which has Busch in the lead role as Angela Arden, a faded chanteuse with a very problematic family. We learn all about the struggles and dangers within the troupe and are treated to a few truly memorable moments. This is a very unique film that is entertaining from the first frame until the very disconcerting ending. Highly recommended! We follow this with 1977's "Stunts" which has a bonafide star-studded cast, including Robert Forster, Fiona Lewis, Joanna Cassidy, and Richard Lynch along with several other familiar faces. This is much more of a "movie" with a plot that revolves around a series of on-set murders that all target the stunt performers. Mirrors are objects of fascination and have become powerful symbols through the course of human history. Our two movies this time have mirrors as the heart of the stories and, in both cases, these are mirrors you might want to avoid looking into! We start off with 1980's "The Boogey Man" from director Ulli Lommel. Opening in a flashback, set in a rural area, we see two young siblings involved with a reprehinsible mother. The brother and sister decide, on a fateful evening, that "enough is enough". When we cut to the present day we see that the events of that past event still haunt them as adults, and a malevolent force seems to be inhabiting a mirror that "saw the whole thing" back in the day. It's a little clunky but still an interesting story with some fun moments throughout. We follow that up with 1990's "Mirror Mirror" from director Marina Sargenti. This one has a great cast of show favorites like Karen Black, William Sanderson and Stephen Tobolowsky. Even Lily Munster herself, Yvonne De Carlo pops up in a fun role! The mirror in this one is haunted by a powerful evil entity that possesses a young girl in high school. She goes on a murderous rampage and must be stopped! This is an overwrought but entertaining movie with some great moments, but it's the level of campiness that really kicks it up to the next level. It's fun but doesn't hold a candle to our second movie, 1984's "Mutant" directed by John "Bud Cardos, and which ALSO stars Bo Hopkins as the local sherrif! This one has it ALL...zombies, conspiracies, murder, unruly rednecks, and Wings Hauser! We recommend both movies, but Mutant is the real winner of these two. Come back with us to the 70's for two music-focused films that you may know more for the songs on their soundtracks than for the story content. We start off with "FM" from 1978, with an incredible cast, including Martin Mull, Cleavon Little and Eileen Brennan. The plot follows the staff at a radio station in Los Angeles that is struggling to maintain it's integrity while corporate forces want to blindly pursue profits. It's a noble tale, but it doesn't completely hit the target. We follow that up with the massively superior "Car Wash" from 1976, which was written by Joel Schumacher. The film is a funny, honest look at the team of oddballs working at a Los Angeles car wash, and follows them over the course of a hot summer day. There is a parade of peculiar customers, some pranks and hijinks between the workers, and plenty of social commentary that still feels pointed now. These movies are both fun looks back and are worth searching out, but we highly recommend Car Wash. We then proceed to list the various things we've been watching for fun. There is so much glitter scattered all over the cave this time after we watched two movies that center around the workers at strip clubs. In both movies, there are mysterious deaths occuring, the police are called in, and clothes are discarded...these are pure 80's nonsense and great examples of the sort of low-budget filmmaking that was happening back then. Both films are written and directed by the completely bad-ass Katt Shea and produced by none other than Mr Roger Corman himself! We start with "Stripped to Kill" from 1987 which has the always-reliable and gorgeous Kay Lenz in the lead, playing opposite BJ and the Bear leading man Greg Evigan. Lenz is a police officer who goes undercover as a stripper to try to find out who is killing the other dancers. It does a lot with it's miniscule budget and is totally worth checking out. We also watched the sequel, appropriately titled "Stripped to Kill 2: Live Girls" with Maria Ford taking over the lead role. Ford's character is a stripper who keeps having weird nightmares and waking up to find that one of her fellow dancers has turned up dead. This one is less successful than the first but there are moments throughout that make it worth watching. We then proceed to list the various things we've been watching for fun. For our first episode recorded in 2023, we look at two films from writer/director Eric Red! We start off with "Cohen and Tate" from 1988, starring Roy Scheider and Adam Baldwin in a tale of two hitmen sent to retrieve a young boy and bring him in for questioning by the mob. It's a bit of a mess, with cartoony performances but it has enough good ideas and moments that it's ultimately satisfying. We follow that up with the entertaining "Bad Moon" from 1996, which stars Michael Pare and Mariel Hemingway as a brother and sister. At the start of the film, the brother is bitten by a werewolf and the family dog, which is the real standout actor in the movie, is none too happy about this dark presence in the home. It's fun despite its flaws and has a fantastic werewolf suit! We then proceed to list the various things we've been watching for fun. Happy New Year! Our last recording of 2022 is the first posted episode of 2023! We look at two weird little movies from directors we are very fond of. We start off with Rian Johnson's "Brick" from 2005. Starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Brendan, a high-schooler who is wrapped up in a very tangled and tragic mystery. Presented like a classic noir detective story, with sharp dialogue and double-crosses, it is a very strange amalgam but we all enjoyed it a lot. We follow that up with "Under the Silver Lake" from 2018. Directed by David Robert Mitchell and starring Andrew Garfield, it is a bizarre study of a man's dissolution in a dreamy, surreal version of modern-day Los Angeles. It is full of conspiracies, mysteries, and coincidences and seemingly demands a second viewing to catch all of the details. Not a perfect movie, but well worth your time to check out. We make this podcast in a cave, so it should come as no surprise that our movies this time involve journeys deep under the surface of the earth. We start off with "Grim" from 1996, a tiny little movie from director Paul Matthews with an impressive monster suit and a story that almost instantly fell out of our brains after watching it. It is set in a small town with an elaborate set of caves running beneath it which are inhabited by a demon that is wreaking havoc across town. We follow that up with a real gem, 1984's "What Waits Below" from director Don Sharp and starring the wonderful Robert Powell. This is great pulpy adventure about a cave-expert that is tasked to help the army install a top secret device in a cavern that just might be inhabited by mysterious creatures! It was a real surprise and we all loved it! We then proceed to list the various things we've been watching for fun. Happy Halloween from the Cave!!! In the "spirit" of the season, we look at two very fun films from the 80s that focus on witches, curses and the overwhelming influence of evil. We start off with 1983's The Devonsville Terror from director Ulli Lommel. A new teacher shows up in a small town where the locals are NOT open to oustiders. The teacher learns about the checkered past of the town, and how they killed women who were accused of practicing witchcraft. Is she the reincarnation of one of those women???  You'll have to watch the movie to find out. We were in disagreement about the overall quality of the movie, but we all enjoyed it. We follow that up with a wonderful little flick called Superstition from 1982. The storyline is very similar, but focuses on one witch who puts a curse on a small estate. Jumping to contemporarty time, we see the estate has fallen into the hands of the local church. While cleaning up the estate for a family to move in, they release the ancient evil and murder and mayhem ensues. It's a great little atmospheric movie and we all recommend it completely! These are all questions that swirl in the minds of the conspiratorial and also in the cave this time as we look at two EXCELLENT conspiracy-related films. We start off with 1974's The Parallax View, directed by the legendary Alan J. Pakula and starring the also-legendary Warren Beatty. This is such a great piece of 70's cinema and is filled with wonderful moments, great acting and incredible dialogue. We follow that up with 1977's Capricorn One from ANOTHER legend, Mr. Peter Hyams and featuring a star-studded cast headed up by Hal Holbrook, James Brolin and Elliott Gould! It is the tale of a planned mission to the planet Mars which is secretly cancelled and faked because of safety issues. The astronauts find themselves in grave danger because they know too much and an amazing chase through the desert ensues. This is awesome, pulpy fun that still manages to be smart. We loved both of these movies and recommend them heartily! We then proceed to list the various things we've been watching for fun. In a world that seems to be clearly working AGAINST women, there is something cathartic about watching films where females turn the tables on the people keeping them down and teach them a little something about right and wrong. We watch two VERY wild examples of this type of storyline this time in the cave. We start off with 1987's Angel of Vengeance co-directed by two legends of low-budget filmmaking, Ted V. Mikels and Ray Dennis Steckler. It's a very rough tale of a woman beset by a group of survivalists in the desert and we get to watch her take them down one by one. It's a nasty bit of business but worth checking out. We follow that with 1985's Naked Vengeance from show-favorite Cirio Santiago. The story focuses on a woman who find herself in the wrong place at the wrong time and this sends her down a VERY dark path until she finds herself forced to murder most of the male residents of Silver Lake. It is a truly brutal movie but very satisfying once the revenge starts being handed out. We then proceed to list the various things we've been watching for fun. We are focusing on the respected director John Dahl on this episode of the podcast. A front-runner in the Neo-Noir movement, he has produced a number of films that drip with style and he loves a twisty plot full of backstabs and deceit. We start off by talking about The Last Seduction from 1994. Starring actor-turned-director Peter Berg and Linda Fiorentino, it's a pitch-black tale of a woman on the run who will use anything she can to control the people around her and to come out on top. We follow that up with the star-packed Red Rock West from 1993. The cast includes Nicolas Cage, Dennis Hopper, Lara Flynn Boyle and J.T. Walsh, all turning in fantastic performances. Set in a dusty western town, it follows a young man who's down on his luck, looking for a fresh start but what he finds instead is a case of mistaken identity that embroils him in a murder plot. America has a gun problem. So much media is out there where guns are featured almost as the lead characters, and sometimes there's nothing more fun than getting lost in this alternate reality and letting the cathartic violence wash away your cares of the day. It seems lately though that the reality of gun violence is harder and harder to ignore. We picked two movies for the podcast that focus on gun violence and the people who are behind those guns. These are both powerful and expertly-crafted films and we recommend both heartily! We start off with Peter Bogdanovich's debut as a director, 1968's Targets which tells the tale of young man raised in a gun-loving family who decides one day that he's going to kill as many people as he can. Boris Karloff turns in an amazing performance as a fading film star who's struggling with his place in society. We follow that with Two Minute Warning from 1976 which stars Charlton Heston and a slew of Hollywood luminaries in a story largely set in a football stadium during a playoff game where a lone sniper sits high above the crowd, slowly planning his next move. The tension is incredible and the sense of panic once the shooting starts is shockingly real. We then proceed to list the various things we've been watching for fun. Vincent Price is a horror icon for good reason...he's been in so many classics and has one of the most recognizable voices ever. We looked at two of his films that are a little lighter for the podcast this time. Starting with 1983's "The House of the Long Shadows" that has a truly stellar cast of horror luminaries including Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing and John Carridine. The lead is played by Desi Arnaz Jr, who's clearly doing his best but can't hold a candle ( literally ) to his costars. It's a fun, twisty tale of deception and it was amazing to see all those familar faces together in one film. We follow that up with the wacky "Bloodbath at the House of Death" from 1984. Starring British comedian Kenny Everett, its a broad parody of horror tropes and is largely successful throughout. There are some genuinely laugh-out-loud moments and very fun surprises. Several days after recording, the world learned that he had passed away, and we were left with an episode where we talk at length about him, not knowing what was to come. So, please think of this episode as a memoriam for a great actor who was great in every film he was in, with a wonderful smile and a tendency to outshine anyone he was acting beside. What a legend, and what an incredible body of solid work!We start the show off by talking about the 1982 movie "Timerider: The Adventure of Lyle Swann" from director William Dear. Featuring some fairly dark moments for a PG-rated film, it's a fun little diversion with a strong supporting cast including Peter Coyote as the villain. We follow that up with a masterpiece from 1990 called "Miami Blues" from George Armitage. Costarring Jennifer Jason Leigh and Alec Baldwin, it is a very unique blend of comedy, drama, police procedural and character study. This one should NOT be missed! It is a blast and has some incredible stunt segments but is also really well written and paced. We have another interesting pairing of films that have a lot in common. They both focus on film editors who get caught up in some crazy moments and violence and murder ensues!  We start off with Evil Ed from 1995, a Swedish production that really goes for it! This movie is incredibly ambitious, especially when considering it's small budget, but the filmmakers really succeed! The film follows a mild-mannered editor, named Ed, who is tasked with editing a series of slasher films. The act of working on the films starts to change him into the titular character and tons of people die along the way. It's a lot of fun, in the vein of Evil Dead 2 and Dead Alive. We follow that up with Astron-6's The Editor from 2014. We really feel this movie is a masterpiece. It's an homage and celebration of the giallo genre, and done with a very deft touch. It's totally over the top at times, while remaining very funny and still keeps you guessing with the actual "who-done-it" plot. This one NEEDS to be seen! This time we look at two black & white vampire movies set in New York City, with VERY big ideas, awesome cinematography and great music. We start off with 1995's The Addiction from director Abel Ferrara. It stars Lili Taylor as a graduate student who is attacked by a vampire and begins to turn. It presents vampirism as a parable for a number of things and goes into some very heady places at times. We follow that with 1994's Nadja from director Michael Almereyda and produced by David Lynch (who also turns in a small role as a morgue assistant). It stars the luminous Elina Lowensohn as the titular Nadja, a child of Dracula who must go to Brooklyn to see her estranged brother after the death of their father. We start off with "Wheels of Fire" from 1985 which stars Gary Watkins as a Mad-Max-Alike named Trace who is driving around a post apocalyptic wasteland trying to save his sister from an evil cabal known as "The Ownership". It has lots of explosions and action but a very murky plot but is totally fun in a disposable way. We follow that with 1987's "Equalizer 2000" which stars martial artist Richard Norton as Slade, who's driving around a post-apocalyptic wasteland trying to help a rag-tag team of freedom fighters known as "The Ownership". Do you notice any similarities there? This movie also features the titular gun, the equalizer 2000 which is goofy in the most awesome way imaginable. We turn our attention this time to two films from Mr. Duke Mitchell. After a VERY interesting career of acting and singing he decided he wanted to try directing so, in 1974, he released "Massacre Mafia Style". He plays Mimi, who comes to Hollywood with the intent to force his way into the local Mafia. It is violent and full of all sorts of distasteful shenanigans, but VERY entertaining and earnest. Mitchell's only other directing effort was lost for many years but was finally released in 2010. "Gone with the Pope" is the story of a group of former prisoners who hatch a plan to kidnap the Pope and hold him for ransom. Their idea is to ask every Catholic on earth to pay one dollar for the Pope's release. It is also packed with violence and cringey elements, but it's better assembled than the earlier film.
