Secret Movie Club founder.programmer Craig Hammill takes you on a spooky tour through the shadow galleries of the vast crypt of horror movie masterpieces.

WE ARE STILL HERE occupies a crossroads in the horror genre: that of the '70s & '80s-inspired supernatural chillers, the gorefests from guys like Lucio Fulci and the patient character studies of grief popularized in the '10s (anything A24 would touch). These elements shouldn't work so well together but I guess when you got a horror nerd like Ted Geoghegan writing and directing, it simply does.Paul and Anne Sacchetti (Andrew Sensenig & Barbara Crampton) have just suffered the death of their college-aged son, Bobby. In an attempt to lessen the pain, they pack up everything and move to a remote New England house with a strange 100-year-old history. The rest moves as you'd expect: Anne hears noises, sees things shuffling about on their own. She's convinced Bobby is somehow in the house trying to connect with his parents. Her husbands drowns the pain with whisky and denial. Once the supernatural grows too obvious to ignore, Anne calls their friends, Jacob and May Lewis (Larry Fessenden & Lisa Marie) to give the house a once-over and provide some much needed friendship. If you're equally a fan of movies like THE CHANGELING, DEAD & BURIED and CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD, you'll find the threads tying these elements together. It's patient enough with its characters to allow them the space to grieve while also brisk enough to satisfy any genre thrill-seekers. It's a unique balance that leaves me talking about every individual piece for hours after it's over. WE ARE STILL HERE is a pizza-and-beer-and-shoot-the-shit-forum of a flick and isn't that what we want from a proper Halloween watch?WE ARE STILL HERE's 10th anniversary Blu-ray is available to buy now from Dark Sky Films.---Follow, rate and review THE MOVIES wherever you listen to podcasts!Follow THE MOVIES on Instagram, Bluesky & Letterboxd

We start Halloween month and half today with something of a disaster. Italian giallo horror has always been a respected genre like spaghetti westerns. From Bava to Argento and Fulci. Some work and some don't..this one doesn't. Sorry
Hosts Josh and Jamie and special returning guest Mike Thorn kick off SPOOKTOBER by discussing two different eras of largely faithful Stephen King adaptations: Mary Lambert's playful, colorful and yet still effectively upsetting and morbid realization of PET SEMATARY (1989) and Lawrence Kasdan's attempt at keeping a straight (expensive Hollywood production) face while King bizarrely remixes many of his career-long obsessions in the painkiller induced fever dream of DREAMCATCHER (2003). Next week's episode is a patron-exclusive bonus episode on two Italian legends: Dario Argento's DEEP RED (1975) and Lucio Fulci's THE PSYCHIC (1977), you can get access to that episode (and all past + future bonus episodes) by subscribing to our $5 tier on Patreon: www.patreon.com/sleazoidspodcast Intro // 00:00-12:22 PET SEMATARY // 12:22-1:20:30 DREAMCATCHER // 1:20:30-2:31:40 Outro // 2:31:40-2:35:38 All things Mike can be found at: https://mikethornwrites.com/ NEW SLEAZOIDS SHIRT + HAT: https://blackbeltcinema.ca/search?q=sleazoids&options%5Bprefix%5D=last WEBSITE: www.sleazoidspodcast.com/ Pod Twitter: twitter.com/sleazoidspod Pod Letterboxd: letterboxd.com/SLEAZOIDS/ Josh's Twitter: twitter.com/thejoshl Josh's Letterboxd: letterboxd.com/thejoshl Jamie's Twitter: twitter.com/jamiemilleracas Jamie's Letterboxd: letterboxd.com/jamiemiller

Talking Trash is a show to discuss movies that some people deem to be garbage, mediocre or just one that people never knew existed, we talk through the plot in spoiler fashion while asking "is this a bad movie?" And if not "what is the worst movie ever made?"It's September and we've started a two month battle between Dogs and Cats. August went to the dogs, and September is for the cats. To celebrate national cat month we are taking on 5 cat films. So this week we dive into another Lucio Fulci film, 1981s "The Black Cat". Yes, its another stab at producing a live action retelling of the Edgar Allen Poe story of the same name and because its Fulci, you know that means bright red blood and eye ball close ups. Will this be a fun cat film or a bad time all around? Let's find out. THE SWIMMER (1968) We dive deep in to The Swimmer and discuss and analyze, maybe just a little bit the glorious film directed by Frank Perry, based on a screenplay by Eleanor Perry, from the 12 page short story by John Cheever. "Well-off ad man Ned Merrill (Burt Lancaster) is visiting a friend when he notices the abundance of backyard pools that populate their upscale suburb. Ned suddenly decides that he'd like to travel the eight miles back to his own home by simply swimming across every pool in town."If you're reading this I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support. Synopsis When a small town catholic priest commits suicide, he apparently opens a gate to hell. Elsewhere a young psychic predicts the resulting apocalypse of the dead rising from the grave, and she promptly dies. Did I say she dies? Just kidding, a reporter finds her alive in a graveyard. They travel to the small town she saw in the vision named Dunwich, and team up with another couple and… do things? Review of City of the Living Dead (1980) What is there to say about City of the Living Dead that hasn't already been said by wacky mad libs? It feels like someone with attention deficit disorder and short term memory loss was tasked with making a horror movie, and made it up as they went along. Even the title is a misnomer, at most this is a village or hamlet of the living dead. If you find yourself asking what is going on, rest assured that you will not find answers by the end. I'm sure if you asked Lucio Fulci to explain, you'd get some hand wavy explanation that would mention H.P. Lovecraft, the Salem Witch trial, and Heresy against god. The impression is that making sense is not a large concern for this film, this is more of a strap in and enjoy the ride film. Along the way you will be treated by some surprisingly good practical effects including bleeding from the eyes, lots of smashed brains, and a drill press through the jaw. I can't say that it held my rapt attention, but it did have some good moments. This is a great movie to watch with friends, preferably under the influence of some kind of substance. In my case sitting alone, sober, watching this movie as an assignment from patrons, It was not super enjoyable. Score 3/10

In this week's episode, we're returning from our hiatus (Pye-atus?) with a bit of a switcheroo: instead of "Sinners" which we will get back to, I promise, we're talking shitty Italian horror and may well continue to do so for the next couple of weeks while our hearts are still so tender. It's the 1989 Michele Soavi vehicle "The Church." Von den späten 1960er bis zu den frühen 1980er Jahren wurden mit billigsten Mitteln unzählige Filme abseits des Mainstreams produziert, für ein überwiegend männliches Publikum. Was all die Zombieschocker, Kannibalenstreifen, derben Komödien oder wüsten Thriller gemeinsam hatten: Reißerische Titel, provokante Inhalte, sensationalistische Bilder. Sendungshinweis: FM4 Film Podcast, 28.07.2025, 0 Uhr

We are coming in hot (think wearing leather pants in the desert hot) for #SCI-FI-JULY Presents: Dystopian Summer 2: Dystopian HARDER. This week, we talk about WHEELS OF FIRE, a nearly New World movie directed by the famous/infamous Cirio H Santiago and starring Gary Watkins (Hunter), Laura Banks (Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan) and Lynda Wiesmeier (Avenging Angel). If you haven't seen WHEELS OF FIRE you should know it's very different from the grossly overlooked action/musical, STREETS OF FIRE, starring Michael Pare and Diane Lane. WHEELS OF FIRE blends everything you loved about MAD MAX and THE ROAD WARRIOR with a pinch of Lucio Fulci's CONQUEST and a heavy dollop of STRYKER. WHEELS OF FIRE takes place in a post-apocalyptic wasteland where shirts are optional, cars blow up at the slightest provocation and some people are trying to build a spaceship to reach a newly discovered planet. Trace and his sister, Arlie, find themselves on a crash course of bad decisions that puts them in harm's way at every turn. Sadly, Arlie gets the worst of it and Trace lacks any sense of urgency to save her. Instead, he and his handy flamethrower blazes across the sandy abyss getting into fights with everyone he meets until he meets Stinger, a young, leather-strapped ingénue with a pet eagle that sounds like a hawk. As you might imagine, one of us is not happy about this. Each of us gives our own Letterboxd description for WHEELS OF FIRE and we spend an inordinate amount of time talking about the Baldwin brothers. More specifically, the brothers that aren't named 'Alec'. Can you name 12 movies off the top of your head starring Stephen Baldwin? We couldn't either. PsydeShow is bringing out the dead this week as we cover Lucio Fulci's 1979 genre classic, Zombie! We brought along Ryan Clark for the conversation; comedian, writer, and bassist of LA Hardcore band Mad Peaceful! In this episode of Bloody Essentials, hosts Nina, Ethan, and Jamie are joined by longtime friend and film enthusiast, John, to unearth a true hidden gem: Lucio Fulci's One on Top of the Other (1969). Long before Fulci became synonymous with splatter horror, he dipped into the world of erotic thrillers and proto-giallo suspense—and the results are deliciously twisted.Set against the foggy backdrop of San Francisco, this stylish thriller serves up double identities, sensual intrigue, and a murder mystery that keeps you guessing. It's Hitchcock by way of Italy, and it's time more people gave it the love it deserves.Join us as we break down Fulci's early masterpiece, its place in the evolution of giallo cinema, and why this seductive, suspense-filled ride is essential viewing for horror and thriller fans alike.
