Medical help for Falk's wound is right around the corner, but how will he get past The Health Access Facilitator? Will corporate bureaucracy spell his doom? How do I ensure every episode goes out with a bang? This Gun in My Hand!Show Notes:1. The President of the United States depicted in this episode is fictional, not meant to represent the president you're thinking of. Any resemblance to actual events or places or persons, living or dead, is entirely coincidental.2. I thought it would make the nurse sound uninformed about plumbing if she thought an Allen wrench would help tighten a loose pipe fitting, but maybe one of those hose clamps with the bolt that tightens it could have an Allen bolt? Slightly autobiographical scene – even when I understand what tools and parts need to be used for a plumbing repair, my trouble is usually trying to fit the wrench into a tight and awkward position.Credits:The opening music clip was from The Sun Sets at Dawn (1950), and the closing music was from Killer Bait (1949), both films in the public domain. In 1969, Kirchen took Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen to California and they developed a reputation as musical "outlaws" that were praised by other outlaw musicians and bands like Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, The Grateful Dead and the Allman Brothers Band.Kirchen's band "played a collection of rock 'n' roll, hard-core country, boogie and rockabilly sounds produced in a "high-octane mix" that made them a "happening" group in the San Francisco Bay area. Kirchen began to develop as guitarist, vocalist, songwriter and performer. He became known for his vocal and guitar work on such songs as "Mama Hated Diesels", "Down to Seeds and Stems Again Blues" from the band's albums, Hot Licks, Cold Steel & Truckers' Favorites and Lost in the Ozone. His live performance work was captured on the 1973 album Live From Deep in the Heart of Texas, recorded at the Armadillo World Headquarters in 1973.Kirchen's Commander Cody band broke apart in 1976 and he formed a "swing orchestra" called the Moonlighters and began a decades-long collaboration with British musician Nick Lowe. Lowe produced the Moonlighters' second album Rush Hour, and Kirchen toured with Lowe and joined him in the studio from time to time. During this period Kirchen also worked on albums with Elvis Costello, Gene Vincent, and Link Wray. Kirchen was one of the musicians that pioneered the Americana movement in the 1980s, and also with being a founding father of "twangcore," along with Dave Alvin, Wilco and Big Sandy & His Fly-Rite Boys. Kirchen's signature sound has been dubbed "dieselbilly" and incorporates elements of country, blues, rockabilly, Western swing and boogie-woogie, laced with themes of American truck driving music. Kirchen's work in the early 1970s with Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen helped set the stage for the singers like Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson and other outlaw country bands with his recordings of songs like "Seeds And Stems."Kirchen is said to have "one of the most distinctive, pure-Fender Telecaster tone guitar sounds in modern music". Kirchen was named "The Titan of The Telecaster" by Guitar Player magazinefor his musical prowess on the Fender Telecaster guitar. He played a 1959 model with a maple fretboard and sunburst finish that he calls the "coal burner" and acquired in 1967 when he exchanged his Gibson SG with a stranger on a bus.He retired that guitar in the early 2010s in favor of a Telecaster with a wider neck.
Rick and Ryan ponder the Lost Planet Airmen and take a look at The Man in the White Suit.

Jen Dean is a NY-based commercial editor and mother with a sharp eye, a quick wit and a love for Texan psych rock. After studying under Stan Brakhage she got her start at Lost Planet as Hank Corwin's assistant, eventually moving on to cut her own award-winning projects from fashion to comedy to docu style and everything in between. She's an editor's editor and has been in this edit world for long enough to be known and respected by anyone and everyone who's also been around long enough to know anything. When I began this podcast and the accompanying instagram I reposted an image of Thelma Schoonmaker on the IG and multiple people, including former guest Kimmy Dubé, quickly responded that the woman Thelma was with was also a legend herself, Jen Dean. So I swiftly got Jen's contact and tried and failed to land an interview for many months and then the conversation drifted away; so Jen was my white whale for this season and I couldn't close it out without her. And I'm so glad she was finally able to make time for me because we had a great chat. Acomi and Turk182 climb aboard a stolen spaceship to watch the Earth be invaded by aliens. Many lives will be lost during the Battle For The Lost Planet (1986). The Earth soon becomes another casualty of their Galaxy Destroyer (the film's other name). A "spy" steals a spaceship just as an alien fleet attacks Earth. Floating around the Earth in a near powerless spaceship for years, the spy returns to find most of the planet enslaved. Can one forgotten man, who's lived in a pig sty and had sex with a homemade body pillow for five years turn the tide of war and win back the planet? Lucky for us, the aliens are incompetent and he's a moron. Join Acomi and Turk as they watch a movie so low budget it could have been Sweded. A movie that inexplicably spawned a sequel with Mutant War (1988). Bigger budget, just as stupid. So, order your home lobotomy kits and prepare for a sci-fi battle so stupid, it makes Duck Dodgers look like the Trojan War. Let's Watch! The Battle For The Lost Planet a.k.a. Galaxy Destroyer (1986). Acomi and Turk182, along the occasional special guest, provide running commentary of awfulsome movie and TV shows. The hosts select movies that either one, or both, have never seen. All jokes and comments are improvised. NO PREPARED JOKES OR COMMENTS! During recording, the movies are watched at a low volume and with the subtitles on. Viewers may want to turn subtitles on as well to enhance the viewing experience. So, cue up the audio, ready the movie, and hit play when we say so. Note: This video is the commentary recorded by Acomi and Turk182. The commentary can be enjoyed on its own, but if you want to experience the Let's Watch! in all its glory, you'll need your own copy of the movie. Most of the movies viewed can be streamed online for free. #OMTWF #KorovaEntertainment #LetsWatch #LW #Acomi #Turk182 #awfulsome #BattleForTheLostPlanet #GalaxyDestroyer #scifi #80s #1986scifi Follow Acomi on Twitter at @AcomiDraws and on Instagram at AcomiDraws. On this week's episode, we take a two-steppin' deep dive into the debut LP of a true original, 1971's Lost in the Ozone by Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen. The band members came from varied musical backgrounds and interests, but they brought a love of pre-1970s American music to the table, to including boogie-woogie blues, honky tonkin' shuffle tunes, 1940's jumpin' jive, 1950's rock n' roll, and western swing. And it is all performed so expertly and effortlessly on this LP. What made the band stand out was not only the unbelievable musicianship (by all accounts they were a live band that had to be seen to be believed), but a tongue in cheek sense of humor, coupled with a reverence for the music and, above all, a feeling that these guys truly loved doing what they were doing and having the time of their life doing it. And it shows. This album is "fun" with a capital “F"!” Lost in the Ozone is also a bit of snapshot in time of that peculiar era where rednecks and hippies could find a common ground in music. Its a collection of both covers played with earnest emotion, and genre defying originals that on the surface appear to be about the typical country music tropes that lead to tears in your beers, until you realize they are dotted with counter culture references (See “Seeds and Stems” for a perfect example). While Lost in the Ozone does contain the top 10 cover of “Hot Rod Lincoln,” the LP is little known today. “Cosmic American Music” is what Gram Parsons called the odd blend rock and roll attitude and country music heart found on this album, and Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen may very well be THE epitome of that concept. As such Lost in the Ozone is an album worthy of your attention and deserved of repeated listens. Trust us, you will not regret it.
