On Episode 31 of our show "Grindhouse Pizzeria" which is dedicated to all things encompassing various Grindhouse, Drive-In, and Exploitation genres; we will be reviewing and dissecting a first of its kind here at GP with the gritty moonshine run/car chase flick with 1973's "WHITE LIGHTNING". Directed by Joseph Sargent (Jaws: The Revenge) and starring the ONE and the ONLY Burt Reynolds at Gator McKlusky. Rounding out this killer cast is Bo Hopkins, Diane, Ladd, Ned Beatty, Jennifer Billingsley, Matt Clark, John Steadman, R.G. Armstrong, and many more. This movie, which spawned an equally solid sequel "GATOR", is a revenge tale about moonsine runners versus a corrupt sheriff. There's plenty of crooked cops, moonshine, fast cars, and car crashes. Burt is here doing what he does best...looking cool and driving fast. Our discussion is headed off by our regular hosts Tom Komisar and Cameron Scott! Join the two of them as they take a deep dive dissection of this loose and fast exploitation effort! Come on in at the Grindhouse Pizzeria, pull up a chair, and grab yourself a slice! "You two are more fun than going to an all-night dentist."
American Graffiti is a 1973 American coming-of-age comedy-drama film directed by George Lucas, produced by Francis Ford Coppola, written by Willard Huyck, Gloria Katz and Lucas, and starring Richard Dreyfuss, Ron Howard, Paul Le Mat, Harrison Ford, Charles Martin Smith, Cindy Williams, Candy Clark, Mackenzie Phillips, Bo Hopkins, and Wolfman Jack. Set in Modesto, California, in 1962, the film is a study of the cruising and early rock 'n' roll cultures popular among Lucas's age group at that time. Through a series of vignettes, it tells the story of a group of teenagers and their adventures over the course of a night.

On our 80th episode of Fabulous Film & Friends what better way to follow up a Road House podcast than by looking at the highlights of pioneering gay director John Schlesinger? We're talking about 1969's Midnight Cowboy starring Dustin Hoffman, Jon Voight, Brenda Vaccaro, John McGiver, Sylvia Miles, Bob Balaban and Barnard Hughes as well as 1971's Sunday, Bloody Sunday starring Peter Finch, Glenda Jackson, Murry Head and Dame Peggy Ashcroft topped off with 1975's The Day of the Locust starring William Atherton, Donald Sutherland, Karen Black, Burgess Meredith, Bo Hopkins, Pepe Serna, Geraldine Paige, Richard Dysart, Lil' Jackie Earl Haley, an even littler Billy Barty and Mrs. Lovey Howell, herself, Natalie Schaeffer. I'm joined this week by the reliably ab-fab crew of my kid-sister and lit major Roseanne Caputi as well as the sensitive cowhand himself, actor, photographer and snappy patter producer par excellence Gordon Alex Robertson! Okay, before we don the fringed suede jackets and find a spot on 43rd St., the synopses: In Midnight Cowboy big, dumb Texan Joe Buck quits his job as a dishwasher and hops on a Greyhound to the big town, New York City with dreams of making his fortune as a male prostitute servicing rich, bored housewives on Park Avenue. After a series of cringe-inducing misfires, Joe finds himself penniless and living in a squalid, condemned apartment with a sickly, limping con man named Enrico “Ratso” Rizzo. With Ratso serving as Joe's manager the only place they can go is straight down. Barely surviving a New York winter, Joe's fortunes finally start to change for the better until a dying Ratso implores Joe to get him to Florida. Sunday, Bloody Sunday slowly--ever so slowly-- catalogues the highs and lows of two middle-aged, upper-class Londoners, one man, Dr. Daniel Hirsch, a perennially single doctor and one woman, Alex Greville a divorcee who both find purpose and vitality in a love triangle with Bob Elkin, a young sculptor in his 20's. The three must deal with abrupt change, loss and acceptance when Bob the sculptor moves to America. The Day of the Locust, based on the 1939 novel by Nathaniel West, follows the course of three, tragic dreamers who came to Hollywood with eyes toward stardom but end up victims of its cold-hearted excess: Tod Hacket, a somewhat idealistic --if a bit rapey set designer from Yale-- who is in love with Fay Greener, a beautiful but talentless day playing actress who refuses to date men that aren't wealthy, and none other than Homer Simpson, a simple, religious and socially awkward accountant who naively takes Fay in to live with him. Before George Lucas launched the Star Wars Universe in 1977, he directed the coming-of-age comedy-drama American Graffiti. Produced by Francis Ford Coppola, the film revolves around various early rock ‘n' roll cultures that helped define a generation. Gearheads often swoon for this memorable film as it features plenty of gorgeous hot rods that any collector would love to have in their garage.American Graffiti is written by Willard Huyck, Gloria Katz, and Lucas and features an eclectic cast of young actors, including Richard Dreyfus, Ron Howard, Paul Le Mat, Harrison Ford, Charles Martin Smith, Cindy Williams, Candy Clark, Suzanne Somers, Kathleen Quinlan, Bo Hopkins, Wolfman Jack, and more. The film takes audiences back to 1962 when teenagers owned the night, and Johnny Law was no match for a group of miscreants looking to cause mischief. Set to a soundtrack that features musical acts like Buster Brown, The Platters, Chuck Berry, and The Heartbeats, American Graffiti presented an ideal environment for teens. The film created a Neverland environment for curfew-defying hooligans and acted as pure nightmare fuel for square parents. Join us as we discover what the f@%$ happened to one of Lucas's earliest films before he became the founder of the most celebrated sci-fi universe of all time.
Nathan and Eppy go back to their old ways in S5E17 The Return of the Black Shadow. This was a hard one for us, folks! After a biker gang assaults Jim and abducts and sexually assaults his date, Coop's sister Gail, Coop relives his past as a biker to infiltrate the Rattlers and get revenge. Content Warning: this episode hinges on Gail's rape, and we talk about that as well as all the Rockfordishness that we do like in this episode. We have another podcast: Plus Expenses. We return to the familiar territory of the 80's for our selections this time, starting out with 1983's "Sweet Sixteen" directed by Jim Sotos. It's a sordid and occasionally confusing tale of a small town that is suddenly plagued with mysterious events, including murders! The local sherrif, played by show-favorite Bo Hopkins attempts to get to the bottom of things with the help of his two teenaged children. It's fun but doesn't hold a candle to our second movie, 1984's "Mutant" directed by John "Bud Cardos, and which ALSO stars Bo Hopkins as the local sherrif! This one has it ALL...zombies, conspiracies, murder, unruly rednecks, and Wings Hauser! We recommend both movies, but Mutant is the real winner of these two. We then proceed to list the various things we've been watching for fun. Please let us know what you thought of the show, and send us some suggestions for future episodes. You can email us at flickersfrom@yahoo.com or flickersfrom@gmail.com. You can also reach us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Nathan and Eppy take a trip to the first appearance of Eugene and Mickey in S5E3 The Jersey Bounce. Our "coupla guys" rent a house next to Rocky, and after some serious threats are made, a dead body shows up. Jim is implicated and needs legal counsel, finally hooking up with disbarred attorney John Cooper to turn the tables on our two dim-witted wannabes. Don't look for continuity, but this is a very Rockford-y episode that we enjoyed quite a bit! We have another podcast: Plus Expenses. Acomi and Turk182 lock their doors and invest in bottled water while they watch Nightmare At Noon (1987). Starring Bo Hopkins and Wings Hauser (who looks like a poor man's John C McGinley), as two men who find themselves, for completely different reasons, trapped in a small backwoods town whose residents are turning into zombie-like creatures. With nowhere to run and no one to turn to, they have to solve the mystery and stop the creatures themselves; or become their latest victims. Wait! That's the plot of Mutant (1984)! Essentially, the same movie, but with Bo Hopkins and John C... I mean, Wings Hauser playing different roles. This time around, we also have George Kennedy as the town sheriff and Brion James as a mute albino who's responsible for everything. Just as confusing as its predecessor, Nightmare At Noon explains even less as to the how or why, and makes it all more complicated. Too bad, there wasn't a third attempt to get it right. So, settle in for a big heaping of deja vu and join Acomi and Turk for Nightmare At Noon (1987). By the way, these episodes were posted out of order. Acomi and Turk182, along the occasional special guest, provide running commentary of awfulsome movie and TV shows. The hosts select movies that either one, or both, have never seen. Toss on your sailor's cap, and dust off your penicillin, because this week we dive into the deep end with TENTACLES, the surprisingly ambitious, unflinching ripoff of Jaws that takes more left turns than a UPS truck in San Francisco. (01-03-2019) - Remembering the 1973 movie (that had a lot of cool cars in it) "American Graffitti" with actors Cindy Williams, MacKenzie Phillips and Bo Hopkins at the Hollywood Show near LAX. All three have fun, behind the scenes stories about the movie, their co-stars and of course the cars they were linked with. Cindy, the 58 Edsel and Ron Howard's 1958 Chevy Impala, MacKenzie with a yellow 32 Ford Coupe, and Bo with a chopped Mercury "lead sled" from the early 50s. Don't forget to subscribe, share and like!! Listen on Radio.com, KNX1070.com and on apple podcasts!
Jackie and Dunlap explore the 1973 film White Lightning, starring a pre-mustache Burt Reynolds, a sweat-slicked Ned Beatty, Jennifer Billingsley, and Bo Hopkins. Directed by Jaws IV's Joseph Sargent and written by gunrunner Bill Norton. Plus: Burt sings! Spielberg ankles! Pond sex! And the men of Benton, Arkansas get a little Burt hurt. Theme by William Sherry Jr. Art by Stephen Mullinax. Patreon! Twitter! Facebook! Our other podcast! And another!
Mutant is a zombie movie starring Wings Hauser, all-time favorite actor of both Jason and Todd. Rest assured that they still don't respect his performance, talking constantly while barely taking a breath. They touch on subjects like the work of Bo Hopkins, the healing effects of Dramamine, and the 45th president of the United States. (Numerologist alert: this is the 45th episode, Todd just turned 45, and yeah, the crazy orange guy.)
