Roger and Evil fire up the Shemp-O-Tron and summon one of horror's meanest rural revenge demons, Pumpkinhead! They're kicking off a whole franchise journey, tackling one new film every two weeks. But much like the witch's cabin in the woods, the road gets bumpier and bumpier. The boys pay respect to the dirt-soaked magic of Stan Winston's original masterpiece before trudging through the sequels that… let's just say, never quite claw their way back up to the same gnarly glory. Grab your pitchfork, light a jack-o'-lantern, and join the guys as they find out what happens when you wish revenge into existence (spoiler: it's never good).

During our Weapons special edition we discussed a possible sequel. It turns out we were not far off the mark. We are surprisingly uninterested, but we think we may have a good reason. We also talk about an interesting option for those you enjoy doing 31 Days of Halloween. The 1980s were arguably the Golden Era of cheesy B-horror movies. There was so much good stuff to come out of the decade. Many of these straight to video offerings became cult classics and shaped the future horror community. By the time the 1990s rolled around it seemed like there was nothing new to add.Blood Hook from 1986 is a great example. Slashers were still all the rage, and this movie includes many familiar tropes. But its killer is completely unique. The villain is a fisherman. Not a guy wearing a mask and carrying a hook. A straight up fisher with a hook, line, and sinker. And yes, he does reel in his victims. When we talked about the trailer for Night of the Reaper last week we were impressed. We were not quite sure what the movie was about, but it had an aesthetic that appealed to us. It looked like a throwback to 80s slashers, which is exactly how it starts. It is one of the best openings we have seen all year.Unfortunately, everything goes off the rails from there. The story goes in odd directions, working with two different plots. This ends up watering both down and makes for a very tedious watch. It feels like two separate movies were forced together. It all culminates in a twisty ending that is nonsensical and frustrating to watch. Adventures in Movies! is a part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network. Special topics for your consideration include: inexplicable relationships between practically all of the characters, terrible teens of yesteryear, consistency in the Burr-iverse, extremely recognizable tits, and the age-old question of "are we still all Pumpkinhead? A little bit?" It's been ages since we talked Pumpkinhead, all the way back to the original in Episode 57. At least we watched them in the right order? The regular lineup of links!
