This isn't a mistake, meatsacks! I've been wanting to show you some of the new fictional content I've been working on for awhile now. And the week of Halloween seemed like a great time to do it. This week, I'll be sharing five of my favorite Nightmare Fuels with you here on the Timesuck feed, staring with this story I wrote back in March. It's 1989 and a pawn shop owner has found some chilling home video footage of two film students investigating an urban legend set inside a local abandoned insane asylum. Hope you like it! This episode was scored by Logan Keith. We recommend listening with headphones to experience the full effect of all the creepy background noises. If you like this episode, please let us know wherever you rate and review podcasts. For their Audience Interrogation cycle "Close Up" episode, Emilio, Julian and Madeline hit record and explore a genre that they are, admittedly, not as familiar with: Found Footage Films. They are joined by writer/director/teacher/musician Shaun Seneviratne, a fellow cinephile whose been historically lukewarm on Found Footage films, but enthusiastic to dive in and open minded to the ways this filmmaking style can tell unique, cinematic stories. The group selects three representative films from different eras. First, they unpack 1999's 'The Blair Witch Project', considered the codifier of the genre, and note how the film balances a growing sense of unease with naturalistic, improvised acting and dialogue. Then they discuss Patrick Brice's 2014 film 'Creep', its unavoidable connection to mumblecore, and the ways it intentionally plays with long-standing horror tropes. They complete the conversation digging into 'Searching', Aneesh Chaganty's 2018 screen life thriller that concerns itself with the finding of footage, and manages to capture emotion and intention through computer use in surprisingly effective ways. Shaun Seneviratne can be found and followed on the socials at thebrownshaunHis feature film 'Ben and Suzanne: A Reunion in 4 Parts' is streaming now on Fandor and available for rent on digital. Hollywood has never shied away from portraying obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) — but it often gets it wrong. Typically, OCD is reduced to a punchline, a quirky habit, or a stereotype about neatness and handwashing. In this episode, TV & movie actor Rachel Alig and award-winning filmmaker Sam Sabawi take us behind the scenes of their acclaimed short film “For All I Know” to show how OCD can — and should — be portrayed with truth and compassion. Sam, who lives with OCD, explains why lazy writing has distorted public understanding and how he used his lived experience to create an authentic story. Rachel shares the emotional depth required to embody a character with OCD, and how she avoided the clichés that Hollywood often leans on. Together, they reveal how real therapy techniques — especially exposure and response prevention (ERP) — were brought into the film to highlight the messy, ongoing reality of recovery. Listener takeaways: how Hollywood depictions have shaped public misconceptions of OCD and why the process of authentically portraying OCD on screen matters what OCD actually is — and isn't why ERP therapy is the gold standard for treatment This is a rare insider look at mental illness through the eyes of two industry leaders determined to change how we see OCD. Listen now! Sam and Rachel's Award-Winning Short Film About OCD, For All I Know, is available on YouTube now. (Viewing Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vwk4UPHKp0) Our guest, Sam Sabawi, is a two-time Emmy-nominated filmmaker whose work spans narrative fiction, documentary, and unscripted formats. A five-time Telly Award winner and two-time Anthem Gold recipient, Sabawi brings over a decade of experience in visual storytelling across scripted film, development, and branded content. His recent short film For All I Know explores the interior landscape of OCD to externalize intrusive thoughts. The film is currently on its festival circuit. Our guest, Rachel Alig, is quickly establishing herself as a dynamic force in both comedy and drama, with a growing list of standout performances across film, television, and commercial work. With over a decade of experience, she has shared the screen with acclaimed talent including John Magaro (The Big Short, PastLives, Carol), Lou Diamond Phillips, Nick Jonas, Jason Biggs, Rob Riggle, and Master P. Her most recent film, OMAHA—starring John Magaro—premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival in the prestigious U.S. Dramatic Competition category and was acquired by Greenwich Entertainment for a theatrical release in early 2026. She also appears in FOUND FOOTAGE, distributed by Vertical Entertainment, which hit theaters nationwide on June 20, 2025. Rachel stars opposite of Lou Diamond Phillips and Malcolm McDowell in, ET TU, which started streaming on all major platforms this summer. And today, September 2, 2025, INVISIBLE, is streaming on Amazon Prime, where Rachel has the lead female role. Rachel's craft is rooted in a strong foundation of training, including The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in West Hollywood and The Groundlings. She further honed her skills through ongoing work with Lesly Kahn & Co. and two years of master classes at The Margie Haber Studio. Our host, Gabe Howard, is an award-winning writer and speaker who lives with bipolar disorder. He is the author of the popular book, "Mental Illness is an Asshole and other Observations," available from Amazon; signed copies are also available directly from the author. Gabe is also the host of the "Inside Bipolar" podcast with Dr. Nicole Washington. Gabe makes his home in the suburbs of Columbus, Ohio. We do not talk about Jeremy Irons enough on this show. He is an actor's actor who we do not see in genre often. His involvement in the remake of a 1980s cult classic changes that and has us excited. We also revisit our conversation about how comedians have positively affected horror. Plus, bad pedophiles vs good ones.We like when PR companies go the extra mile and the marketing for Bone Lake has been inspired. From suggestively placing the R rating to some cool posters, the film's promotion has been eye-catching. The over the top opening adds to this with lots of nudity and a gruesome kill. When it turns things down, it is to an almost shocking degree that may cause people to turn out. Which is a shame, since Bone Lake becomes an excellent psychological thriller that does an excellent job of toying with audience expectations. It also boasts one of the strongest performances of the year.Since returning in 2021, the V/H/S series has put out some great releases. They have taken things to he past along with trying out new things like sci-fi horror. This year the franchise tackles something that John Carpenter was never able to do. V/H/S Halloween sees the found footage anthology turn its eye towards a particular holiday in October. There have been some fun segments, but this is the most fun V/H/S has been as an overall product in years. It perfectly captures the Halloween spirit and presents stories that range from scary to funny. And all of them are gross. This is one of the movies that will become a regular tradition. But there is a major caveat. V/H/S Halloween also has the darkest segment in the history of the franchise. It will be a polarizing watch that many people may skip. Others will think it is great extreme horror. One thing is for sure; the segment is one of the best seen in the V/H/S series, but it feels out of place in this year's edition. Mark Duplass has entered the fray! And he is very, very creepy. This week we're going deep on another found footage gem from the indie world. In what may be the only true “character study” of our series, Patrick Brice presents a new type of slasher… who simply won't shut the fuck up.He's Peachfuzz, and he may have therapy language, but he's basically Psycho in a dollar store wolf costume. Run for your life!Next week, we are visiting our old friend M. Night Shyamalan for his big comeback, THE VISIT. We are so back….in space!! This week we're blasting off towards Jupiter for a one-of-a-kind outer space found footage experience.Sebastián Cordero's 2013 sci-fi surveillance thriller was NOT originally on our miniseries radar. So here we are.Next week, we're doing another 2010s pseudo-documentary, the Ti West cult horror THE SACRAMENT. We mention our friend Tim Pool and dive into the setup for the Wheel of Doom, which is loaded with 60 videos today—potentially a record! We're aiming to beat our all-time high score of 9,300 points. Social Media and Livestream Prep: Discussing the platforms we're streaming on and the excitement of going live. Tim Pool and Comedy Connections: Mentioning a conversation with Tim Pool about Stephen Colbert and how Sam stepped in when Dave Smith wasn't available. Wheel of Doom Setup: Hyping up the wheel with 60 videos and our goal to hit a high score. 0:15:00 - 0:30:00 - The Blair Witch Project: A Psychological Experiment? The first spin lands on a video about The Blair Witch Project, revealing its production as a real-life psychological experiment. We dive into how the filmmakers pushed actors to their limits with minimal scripting, GPS coordinates, and intentional deprivation to capture genuine fear. This sparks a discussion about the ethics of such filmmaking and its impact on the found footage genre. Blair Witch's Unconventional Filming: Actors were left in the woods, sleep-deprived, and scared by directors to elicit real reactions. Ethical Debate: Was this genius or borderline torture? We ponder if we'd sign up for such a project. Cultural Impact: The film's viral marketing and low-budget success (made for $60,000, grossed $250 million) redefined horror. 0:30:00 - 0:45:00 - Flat Earth Theories and the Amazon River The wheel spins to a video claiming the Amazon River's flow challenges the globe Earth model, suggesting a flat plane of existence. We react with a mix of intrigue and skepticism, noting the video's disclaimer that it's for “entertainment purposes only.” This leads to a broader discussion about conspiracy theories and their presentation online. Amazon River and Flat Earth: The video argues the river's unidirectional flow defies a globe's curvature, implying a flat Earth. Skepticism and Cop-Outs: We criticize the “entertainment only” disclaimer as a way to dodge accountability. Conspiracy Culture: Reflecting on how platforms like TikTok shape the spread of such theories. 0:45:00 - 1:00:00 - The Matrix and Brain Symbolism Another spin brings us to a video linking The Matrix to brain science, suggesting Neo's journey represents moving from the reptilian brain to the neocortex. We explore this metaphor for consciousness and control, touching on Freemasonry and the film's deeper meanings. We also briefly discuss movie recommendations for Alistair Crowley, favoring Fantastic Four over the new Superman. Matrix Symbolism: Neo's plug-in at the neck symbolizes the reptilian brain, while his awakening reflects the neocortex and higher consciousness. Freemasonry Connection: The video ties brain regions to Masonic degrees, sparking curiosity about hidden meanings. Movie Talk: We debate Superman's slapstick tone versus Fantastic Four's stronger reception. 1:00:00 - 1:15:00 - Sam's Corner: Funny and Emotional Clips In Sam's Corner, we share handpicked videos, starting with a hilarious clip of a kid caught with a hooker, claiming he's going to marry her to dodge trouble. We then get emotional watching a tribute to Hulk Hogan, reflecting on his legacy despite past controversies, including a fake voiceover clip of him making offensive remarks. Hooker Mishap: A kid's desperate excuse that he's marrying a hooker cracks us up. Hulk Hogan Tribute: A heartfelt video from The Rock about Hogan's wrestling legacy, contrasted with a fake clip highlighting his controversial past. Nostalgia and Wrestling: We reminisce about our love for pro wrestling and Hogan's iconic moves. 1:15:00 - 1:34:52 - Conspiracy Deep Dive and Bizarre News The final segment is a whirlwind of conspiracy and oddities. We discuss a video linking Sabrina Carpenter to occult symbolism in Rosemary's Baby and Eyes Wide Shut, a creepy ad for glowing smart implants, and a disturbing story about a serial butt sniffer arrested in California. We wrap up with plugs for our projects and a nod to the Doomers. Sabrina Carpenter Conspiracy: Connections to Lucifer quotes, Rosemary's Baby fonts, and Eyes Wide Shut suggest Hollywood occult ties. Smart Implants: A futuristic ad for glowing implants raises cyborg concerns, with a humorous take on glowing body parts. Serial Butt Sniffer: A repeat offender's arrests at Walmart and Nordstrom spark a mix of humor and unease about bizarre crimes.
