Welcome to the 3-timers club, B.J. Colangelo! The intrepid co-host of This Ends At Prom and /Film staple returns with a 2000s horror comedy that is, for better and worse, a cultural time capsule: Monster Man. Misogyny runs rampant in this wannabe direct-to-video American Pie sequel, but to a comically exaggerated degree that shines a light on social norms of the period. Then the Joy Ride and Texas Chain Saw vibes take over, with eyeball chili and corpses crushed into ground beef. It's a raunchy caricature sure to give 2000s kids PTSD, but weirdly enough, and because behaviors are so significantly overstated, that's ultimately the film's "charm."

For episode 238, we are back on the highway, with our foot pressing the accelerator all the way to the floor, while we try to outrun that crazy person in the truck! We start off with 2001's "Joy Ride" which stars the VERY young Steve Zahn and Paul Walker as two brothers who pull a prank on the WRONG guy! We follow that with 2003's "Monster Man" where two guys who AREN'T brothers pull a prank on the WRONG guy! Notice any similarities in those plots? Regardless, these two films are a blast and we can't wait to tell you all about them! Please let us know what you thought of the show, and send us some suggestions for future episodes. You can email us at flickersfrom@yahoo.com or flickersfrom@gmail.com. You can also reach us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

In this episode of Metalology, the hosts of Metalology discuss the Finnish Metal Monsters that are Lordi. Lordi is a Finnish hard rock and heavy metal band. Formed in 1992 by the band's lead singer, songwriter and costume maker Mr Lordi (Tomi Petteri Putaansuu), Lordi are known for wearing monster masks and using horror elements with pyrotechnics during concerts and music videos. The band rose to fame in 2002 with their hit single "Would You Love a Monsterman?", and won the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 with their song "Hard Rock Hallelujah".Lordi has toured and recorded actively since 2002, and Mr Lordi upgrades the band's costumes and masks for each album. The band has gone through several line-up changes with Mr Lordi being the only consistent member of the band since their foundation. Members of Lordi have stated their desire for their unmasked faces to remain private. However, they have made a number of unmasked appearances in several news outlets. These next episodes detailing the life of Alonzo Dixon are evidence of the depth of evil to which a man can sink. But more importantly is the reality that there is no pit, no black hole, no evil so great, that God can't through His love, reach down, pull a person out and lead that individual to a life of transformation and redemption.
In memory of our friend Cleve Hall we are rebroadcasting his first appearance on The Dark Mark Show from 2019 Today's fun sized episode is probably the gothiest Dark Mark Show yet as Mark welcomed the "goth Mr. Rogers" Cleve Hall and Rotten Kitty to the lighter side of the dark side Cleve started as a child making Godzilla suits which led to him appearing and making costumes for Pee-Wee's Big Adventure and has worked on such films and TV shows as ReAnimator, Troll, Yo Gabba Gabba and the upcoming Jay and Silent Bob Reboot as well as working with musicians such as Devo, KISS, Alice Cooper and Insane Clown Posse. He talks about his own reality show Monster Man and what was actually real and what wasn't, explains why you should always name your hearse, why practical effects are better than CGI and what it's like living next to a graveyard. Kitty cleared misconceptions up in that she has performed at burlesque shows, but not as a dancer, as an MC only. She waxed nostalgic for her days as a child star and the ever dwindling residual checks she would receive. She recalled a particularly bloody modelling session and how much she enjoyed the original Clash of The Titans, Harry Hamlin's hair and the mechanical owl notwithstanding. Today we go outside the norm with my guest who is not an improv actor or a magician. But he's someone I admire tremendously. He's my best friend of 30 years, he is Jose Prendes. Jose is a director, writer, and producer of various films that include The Monster Man, Corpses Are Forever, The Haunting of Whaley House, Mega Shark vs. Mecha Shark, Unspeakable Horrors: The Plan 9 Conspiracy, The Legend of La Llorona, and the Headless Horseman. His latest film is called The Exorcists, which he wrote and directed with an amazing cast that includes Kayla Fields, Denice Duff, Victor Maraña, and Doug Bradley (Pinhead from the Hellraiser movies). In The Exorcists, Jose managed to do the impossible: shoot an entire movie in just 6 days! Jose Prendes is also an author, and his books include The Harbinger, Sharks of the Living Dead, Viewer Beware – The Goosebumps TV Companion, The Are You Afraid of the Dark Campfire Companion, Sharkcano, and Elementary, My Dear Watson #1 - The Astounding Adventure of the Ancient Dragon. Movies are in this man's DNA, and he has a strong passion and love for making films that people will enjoy and remember. In our conversation, we talk about how movies have always played a big role in his life, and he also shares very honestly his enjoyments and frustrations with becoming a director. I am proud to call this man my friend, and I'm especially proud to share our conversation with you today. The Exorcists is available to buy or rent on Apple TV, Vudu, and Amazon Prime Video. Visit IMDB.com for a full list of Jose's movies, and goodreads.com for a full list of his books.

That's right, the boys got Bava'd! All month, Split Tooth has brought you podcasts about the greats of Italian horror, and they saved the best for last. Come wander through the kick-lighted mist-world of the originator, Mario Bava — the Godfather of Giallo, the Svengali of Slashers, the Big Kahuna of Bonzo Kill Thrills. From the high gothic terror of Black Sunday to the surreal dread comedy of Lisa and the Devil, the Cinesthesia Boys give you a radically incoherent survey of the master's career that finally dares to ask the question: WHY DOES HE HAVE HIS LOLLIPOP??? Come along with us. The door is purple.

Today we look back on rituals we had as a family - some daily, some weekly, some not-so-consistent. We talk about morning rituals, dinner rituals, car rides, Sundays, and nighttime. Some of our family rituals were pretty common - scripture study, mommy/daddy dates, and reading books together. Some are a little quirky, like our dinner speeches, nighttime visits from The Monster Man, and our Sunday award ceremonies. Whatever the rituals, the point is that they created a space for connection. Even small things can make a big difference. They help kids feel bonded and feel like they're part of something bigger than themselves. What rituals do you have in your family?
We are what she made us, some say men are monsters I say a woman wrote the story of man creating another man from nothing but dead thoughts The Matrixx is real and so is Westworld, that's why ya can't see the door.
Had a lot of fun on this episode getting educated by James Holloway, the Monster Man, himself! We talk a lot about the importance of the original Monster Manual in setting the stage for these sorts of books and have an interesting debate on whether The Fiend Folio is or isn't a big departure from what that book had set us up for back in the 1e days. This is a great one, folks! We had a blast with the very talented Brian Shutter-a name to watch as he will definitely be making his mark in the industry! He tells about his epic quest to bring the "cassette-apocalypse" mystique to life in his hot new game, "Neon Lords of the Toxic Wasteland" (available at Exulted Funeral https://www.exaltedfuneral.com/search?q=neon+lords and DriveThru https://www.drivethrurpg.com/browse.php?keywords=neon+lords&x=0&y=0&author=&artist=&pfrom=&pto= ). Next, we give the "This Ol' Dungeon" treatment to an adventure from one of my favorite systems, Paranoia's "Orcbusters." Hopefully you'll enjoy this as much as we did! Oh, don't forget to write in if you figure out the "wizard's names" mystery... And finally, here's a real cool resource/channel Edwin had mentioned: The Monster Man podcast (https://monsterman.libsyn.com/) hosted by James Holloway (and currently running a crowd funding for an adventure I helped him play test at https://james-holloway.itch.io/the-magonium-mine-murders).

Thoughts on the film Monster Man (2003) Monster Truck Maniacs! Episode 005
On this very special episode of Half a Star, Justin and Ben are joined by writer Dave Stewart! Dave Stewart is a long-time friend and talented writer based in Prince Edward Island. He's got a long list of accomplishments under his belt, including DARK|Sanctuary, a horror comic created in collaboration with Sandy Carruthers for Sandstone Comics, Monster Man (collection of short horror stories), Fear from a Small Place (multi-author anthology), Before Grindr (six-part online interview series exploring the secret gay and lesbian social history of Prince Edward Island), The Satan Show (The Island Fringe Festival) just to name a few! Dave gives us a rundown about what he believes makes a great horror film, and sheds some light on a project he's working on with Benton at Kings Playhouse in Georgetown, Prince Edward Island! All this, and maybe a little more, on Half a Star - where bad ideas make great stories.
Do you like being scared? We certainly do, and that's why Wet Tee Shirt Podcast is kicking off October with four weeks of Halloween, beginning with the Dangerous Toys classic, "Scared". Candace the Clown has some pretty specific criteria when it comes to music she's up for playing this month, so the songs all have to have something about them that works in a Halloween playlist! Thankfully, Dangerous Toys make playing this game easy...once we get past our spooky news segment, we start off with Jason McMaster's former project, Watchtower, and a song from their only record with him, "Asylum"! Then we make our way into the band that we all know him for, and after watching the "Scared" video, we also catch "Bones in the Gutter" from the same debut album, "Demon Bell" from their contribution to the Wes Craven's "Shocker" soundtrack, we go to 1994's "Pissed" and let things get a little "Strange" before we finish our tour of the Toys' catalog with a listen to "Monster Man" from 1995's "The R*tist 4*merly Known as Dangerous Toys" record. This episode is full of carnival sounds, costumes, finding ways to keep talking about "No More Tears", and spooky ooky things! We even finish you off with Fastway's "Trick-or-Treat". It's time to clown around! Take mommy's lace and the whiskey off the top shelf, rent yourself some spiders, snakes, and rats, and don't forget to allow your hair to dry without a dedicated part! Happy Halloween, first week of October style! Watch video of our discussion, as well as the video clips and pictures we reference on the show along with us, on Patreon! Last week we took a little look at Richard Chase's past, the trials and tribulations, and even a few of his struggles. Don't get me wrong, I've got no sympathy for him, or what he did, but he can't shoulder every ounce of blame for his actions. But what were those actions exactly? Well, we know he shot and killed Ambrose Griffin, and when we left off he was in the process of breaking into Terry Wallin's house. Well he did, and what he did when he got inside was truly brutal, the acts of not a man, but a monster. Calling him an animal would be too much of an insult to a shark. Chase, after having his way with Wallin wasn't done. He had a thirst for blood, quite literally. What was found at Teresa Wallin's murder was disturbing, but one thing of not was rings left of the floor, rings in the shape of buckets. Buckets to put blood into. This was a theme at his next murder as well, which happened to be a triple homicide, that later turned into a fourth. All in all, Chase ended the lives of six people, and he did not discriminate. Two of his victims were children, three if you count Wallin's unborn child. Chase was a piece of human trash, with multiple mental disorders, that were later judged to have little to no role in his terrible acts. Having a mental illness is not an excuse for what he did. Plenty of people have mental illnesses, and they don't disembowel people at will. Personally, I blame his mother. She was apathetic at best towards him and his activities, and flat out denied he could have done what he did - probably because it would look bad on her. Anyway, for more details on what Chase did, you'll just have to listen. But be warned, it's not pretty. Jose discovered a love of movies early on after tragic circumstances made him want to escape from the real world. Since the age of five Jose had not felt comfortable in the real world, preferring fiction to reality, and leaving all the messy real life stuff for his lovely wife Jessica to deal with. He has been making films and writing since 2000, when he published his first novel, THE HARBINGER and made his first film, the sci-fi spoof THE MONSTER MAN. Since then, he has gone on to make a name for himself in the genre world including writing and directing the Asylum's best-reviewed horror film, THE HAUNTING OF WHALEY HOUSE and writing the best-selling novels, SHARCANO, about sharks from hell threatening the apocalypse, and ELEMENTARY, MY DEAR WATSON, a school-aged look at Sherlock Holmes and John Watson's early adventures together. His most recent film, THE DIVINE TRAGEDIES, is playing at festivals, and he is currently busy on a myriad of projects. "The Divine Tragedies" was a 2015 Shriekfest Official Selection!

Tom wasn't fiction. He was not a lie. He was a higher truth, something we invented to encapsulate a reality too horrific to communicate to anyone outside our plague-devastated circle. Maybe myth, but definitely not fiction. Myth helps us make sense of facts too messy to comprehend, and that's what Tom Minniq was supposed to be. A fable to ponder, and then forget. We birthed Tom at one of Derrick's Sunday coffee kvetches. | Copyright 2015 by Sam J. Miller. Narrated by Stefan Rudnicki. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
