Columbia Regional Airport's (COU) manager is optimistic about the restoration of passenger air service between Columbia and Denver. COU staff members have been working with airlines to try to restore air service to Denver. Columbia has received a $1-million federal grant for the restoration or reinstatement of air service to Denver. That grant was from the U-S Department of Transportation. Columbia Regional Airport manager Michael Parks spoke to host Fred Parry Saturday morning on 939 the Eagle's “CEO Roundtable.” Mr. Parks tells listeners he sees United Airlines returning to Columbia. “You know Denver was very successful prior to COVID coming in. You know we were even looking at adding a second Denver route. That was flying on the 50-passenger jet is what we currently had with United Airlines. I do see United coming back,” Mr. Parks tells host Parry. Parks also says it is hard to get an additional flight. American Airlines currently offers daily fights from Columbia to both Chicago and Dallas/Fort Worth. Mr. Parks also discussed enplanement and flight numbers and how they compare to numbers before the COVID pandemic. Mr. Parks says that 2019 was the busiest year ever at COU, saying 135,000 passengers departed Columbia Regional Airport that year. United Airlines was still offering flights in 2019. COVID happened in 2020. “Fast forward to last year, we just went over 100,000 passengers flying out, So 200,000 passengers for the year. With that, that's only American Airlines,” Mr. Parks says. Parks has worked at Columbia Regional Airport for 25 years. He has 12 employees in public safety and another ten in maintenance/administration. Michael Parks grew up in the small rural town of Whiting, Iowa. That's where part of the movie “Children of the Corn” was filmed. Columbia Regional Airport (COU) manager Michael Parks travels to Arizona next week to meet with American and other airlines about additional service from COU. Mr. Parks confirms one of the issues he and Columbia Regional Economic Development Incorporated (REDI) president Stacey Button will be discussing is service from COU to Charlotte. Mr. Parks tells 939 the Eagle that he's optimistic. Jefferson City Mayor Ron Fitzwater joined us live on 939 the Eagle's "Wake Up Mid-Missouri", telling listeners that he's pleased with that news. Mayor Fitzwater says COU is huge for Jefferson City. He notes while the Jefferson City Memorial airport is Missouri's sixth-busiest, it does not provide passenger air service. Mayor Fitzwater tells listeners that he has moved all of his flights to COU, rather than having to fly out of St. Louis or Kansas City. During the show, Mayor Fitzwater also recapped last night's Cole County Lincoln Days in Jefferson City, where retiring U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-St. Elizabeth) was honored. Mayor Fitzwater tells listeners that Congressman Luetkemeyer has done a great job of representing Jefferson City and mid-Missouri on Capitol Hill:

On August 12, he allegedly drove a 2020 Toyota Camry under the influence of alcohol and/or marijuana on Windy Hill Road in Marietta. Hernandez rear-ended another vehicle at a red light, failed to move his functional vehicle to the shoulder, and engaged in a heated altercation with the other driver until police arrived. He resisted arrest, kicked an officer in the face, and displayed signs of impairment, including incoherent speech, unsteadiness, and bloodshot eyes. Marijuana and empty alcohol bottles were found in his car, but he refused to cooperate with blood or urine tests. Hernandez also made threats during his arrest. He faces various charges, including DUI, obstruction, battery against a police officer, and terroristic threats, and was released on a $6,500 bond..   Story 3: Jonesboro woman ID'd in fatal crash off I-20   Aries Allison, a 32-year-old woman from Jonesboro, has been identified as the victim in a fatal car crash. The incident occurred when Allison was driving a 2019 Ford Escape on I-20 east, near Riverside Parkway. Her vehicle left the highway and collided with a tree, resulting in her death at the scene. Another female passenger was injured but with non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. The collision is under investigation, and authorities are seeking information from the public. Col. Michael Parks, the new commander of the 94th Airlift Wing responsible for Dobbins, emphasized the importance of the base's surroundings and potential encroachment. While there are no plans to change the base's mission, continued growth and encroachment could pose challenges. The Pentagon is considering relocating part of the 81st Readiness Division to Dobbins, potentially bringing 700 more soldiers and a $78 million investment. Attendees were urged to lobby congressional representatives to avoid short-term funding via continuing resolutions. The matchup is significant for Kennesaw State as it transitions to the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) and Conference USA next year. Coach Brian Bohannon expressed a desire to play nearby teams to engage the fan base and increase familiarity with opponents.
