While the Red Cross is known primarily for blood drives and disaster relief, some of its most important work keeps people out of the hospital. The Home Fires Campaign has installed more than 3 million smoke alarms in homes across the country, saving thousands of lives. Emergency and disaster preparedness campaigns help communities ready themselves for weather related disasters. And CPR and First Aid training are critical to providing care at the moment people in crisis need it.rnrnMike Parks has been leading the Northern Ohio Region since 2015, after he retired as Rear Admiral from the U.S Coast Guard. In his role, Parks oversees five American Red Cross Chapters covering 31 Northern Ohio counties, serving 5.3 million people. In addition, he is frequently called on to lead disaster relief efforts, deploying for weeks to Maui to respond to the Lahaina fires, and to North Carolina after the flash floods from Hurricane Helene.rnrnJoin us for the next forum in the City Club's Local Heroes series, as we hear about the organization keeping blood in the blood banks, and our communities and neighbors safe from disaster.

After a career filled with punching and kicking, Chuck Norris finally was taken down. We celebrate his career, while still remembering that he was not a perfect person, and that his politics were regretably FAR removed from our own. Still though, he brought us a lot of entertainment over the years, and at least one of the movies we chose for the podcast reminded us of just how entertaining he COULD be in the hands of the right director. We start off with the disappointing "Firewalker" from 1986. In an attempt to cash in on the success of movies like "Romancing the Stone" they team Chuck up with the legendary Louis Gossett Jr. and Melody Anderson. Despite his long career of true masterpieces, director J. Lee Thompson was probably NOT the right choice for this one. There were highlights but the movie relied on humor that largely fell flat and a budget that was insufficient to sell the idea of globetrotting adventurers. Our second movie REALLY blew us away, 1991's "The Hitman" directed by his brother Aaron Norris. This is a rough mob story with a standout performance by Michael Parks as the villain. By turns violent and then funny, with moments of humanity included for good measure, this is a real winner!Send us your thoughts on the show and recommendations for future episodes to flickersfrom@yahoo.com or flickersfrom@gmail.com. Send us Fan MailEpisode 116 –  The 3rd Person Narration/Paul Schneider/Nick Cave Standoff: The Assassination of Jesse Jame by the Coward Robert Ford v. Train Dreams.  All aboard episode 116 of the Triple F—chugging along the tracks laid by legendary filmmaker Terrence Malick, we're discussing two noteworthy films that closely follow his style in recounting tales of the American experience star ting with 2007's The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, directed by Andrew Dominik and starring Brad Pitt, Casey Affleck, Sam Shepard, Sam Rockwell, Jeremy Renner, Paul Schneider, Garret Dillahunt, Mary-Louise Parker, Alison Elliott, Zooey Deschanel, Ted Levine, Michael Parks, James Carville, with Hugh Ross as narrator—up against Clint Bentley's Train Dreams, recently watched and retroactively crowned king of the 2025 film mountain, starring Joel Edgerton, Felicity Jones, William H. Macy, John Diehl, Kerry Condon, Paul Schneider again, Clifton Collins Jr., and Will Patton as narrator, a film that echoes Dominik's approach through its third-person narration, recurring Paul Schneider presence, and a Nick Cave–inflected musical sensibility. Covering me with their scatterguns this week are my usual duo of bushwackers, my  kid sis and snooty bookworm Roseanne Caputi and slit-eyed outlaw with enough oat and barley in his voice to give Will Patton and Hugh Ross a run for their money, the one and only Gordon Alex Robertson.  Before we start shoveling coal into the engines, the synopses:  The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert FordOutlaw Jesse James, increasingly paranoid and unpredictable, surrounds himself with a dwindling gang that no longer knows whether he's losing his grip, giving up, or testing their loyalty. Among them is Robert Ford, a devoted admirer whose presence only adds to the tension as trust breaks down within the group. In Train Dreams  Robert Grainger, a railroad laborer in the early 20th-century American West, struggles to build a life as isolation and personal loss reshape his world. Are these films of comparable quality or does one tower over the other?Find out!Watch the video version on youtube:

Elk Hunt
Glassing as a Skill: What Most Elk Hunters Get Dead Wrong

Elk Hunt

This week I sat down with Cody Nelson, a man who has spent the better part of 12–13 years in elk and deer camps across Arizona and the West, helping legendary hunters like Jay Scott and Steve Chapa put tags on bulls by doing one thing better than just about anyone alive: finding game before the hunt ever starts.Cody just made a move over to Tricer as their Director of Innovation — and if you've been paying attention to what Drew has been building over there, this hire makes a whole lot of sense. Cody has been quietly consulting and pushing ideas on Drew for years, and now it's official. Big things are coming from that crew. But this episode isn't a gear ad. This is a masterclass. We dig deep into glassing as a genuine hunting skill — not just a tactic, but a discipline that separates average hunters from the ones who consistently find and kill mature animals. Cody breaks down why most hunters are simply in too much of a hurry, what his three pillars of effective glassing actually look like in the field, and why patience behind the glass is the single most underrated skill in the hunting community. We cover the binocular debate that never gets old — 10s vs. 12s vs. 15s — and actually give you a real answer that depends on where you hunt and what you're doing. We get into the stabilized binocular conversation, and Cody shares an honest take that goes beyond the hype. We talk tripods, the micro pan head, the weight-versus-stability trade-off, and why Cody would rather forget his rifle than forget his tripod. And then there's the story. The Unit 23 bull. A bull over 430 inches that Cody found by accident, locked onto for an entire day without breaking, and helped orchestrate one of the most incredible archery kills I've heard in a long time. If that story doesn't make you want to sit behind your glass longer, nothing will.We also talk about hunting for tomorrow — the concept of letting your glass do the work so your boots don't blow up your opportunity — and why the hunters who consistently win are the ones willing to look into the dark, nasty, quiet pockets that everyone else drives past. This one is worth a second listen. Lock it in.SponsorsThis episode is proudly brought to you by three brands that actually make a difference in the backcountry. The micro pan head, the AD vs. BC, LP for backpacking, and Cody's 30+ tripod collection.1:10:30 Chair vs. Ground — And Not Skylining Yourself — Eye fatigue, hours in the glass, and how your setup affects how long you can actually hunt.1:16:00 THE STORY — The Unit 23 Bull Over 430 Inches — A flat tire, a spike road, one bull of a lifetime, and a full day locked onto a single tree. Michael Parks. Jay Scott. One of the greatest archery bulls ever killed in Arizona.1:22:00 Cody Nelson's New Role at Tricer — Director of Innovation, what he's been consulting on for years, and what's coming next from the Tricer team.1:24:00 Wrap-Up & Outro — Final thoughts, where to find Cody Nelson, free hunt planner link, and thanks for listening.3 Key Takeaways: 1. Patience Is the Most Underrated Glassing Skill — and It's Completely FreeCody Nelson has three pillars of effective glassing: buy quality glass, put it on a tripod, and slow down. The third one is the hardest and the most important. Most hunters are in a hurry — they crest a ridge, look for 14 seconds, and move on. The elk are often right there. A methodical, unhurried approach to covering a hillside will reveal animals that the speed-hikers will never see. You don't need the best glass in the world if you're willing to be the most patient person on the mountain. 2. Stop Looking for a Giant View — Start Looking Into the Dark PocketsThere's a common assumption that good glassing means finding the biggest vantage point you can and looking at the most country possible. The hunters who consistently find mature bulls do the opposite — they look for the small, ugly, nasty pockets that are hard to see into. Late season bulls especially want to be left alone in deep timber, on north-facing slopes, in spots where most hunters won't bother to look. The goal isn't to cover the most acres. It's to look where the animals actually are — and they're usually not standing on a skyline waiting for you. 3. Your Tripod Is More Important Than Your Rifle — SeriouslyCody made a statement at a seminar that stopped the room cold: he'd rather forget his rifle than forget his tripod. Why? Because without a rifle, you can still find game, watch patterns, and come back tomorrow without disturbing anything. Without your tripod, you're fighting eye fatigue from the first hour, you're missing animals in terrain that requires steady glass, and you're giving up precious hunting time every time your eyes give out. A tripod isn't a luxury accessory. It's the tool that multiplies every other piece of glass you own — including your $50 binoculars from the garage.

Usually when you stuff too many genres into a movie, you come out with a bloated, overstuffed, pretentious turkey of a movie, but not with “Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair.” In it we get westerns, anime/manga, Kung-Fu action, exploitation movie and a pulpy bloody mess but it all fits into a 4 hour 35 minute mammoth movie, In 2003, “Kill Bill: Vol 1” was released followed by “Kill Bill: Vol. 2” in 2004 as Quentin Tarantino's 4th and 5th movies. “Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair” combines those two movies together along with some extra footage. A simple plot explanation is The Bride must kill her ex-boss and lover Bill who betrayed her at her wedding rehearsal, shot her in the head and took away her unborn daughter. But first, she must make the other four members of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad suffer. Is it worth going to the theater to see this for the extra footage, or if you haven't seen it, to see everything in this? Check out this episode to find out. “Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair” stars Uma Thurman, David Carradine, Lucy Liu, Vivica A. In this hilariously bizarre and unsettling episode of ClassHorrorCast, Aran and Tom sink their teeth (or tusks?) into Kevin Smith's wildly divisive 2014 body horror film, Tusk. From its infamous origins as a joke on Smith's podcast to its transformation into one of the most bizarre movies in horror history, the guys dive deep into the making, meaning, and madness of this walrus-inspired nightmare.Aran and Tom dissect the film's blend of absurd humor, psychological torment, and grotesque body horror, while tackling its larger themes of obsession, transformation, and moral decay. They'll break down career-defining performances by Justin Long and Michael Parks, the chilling yet oddly comedic tone, and how Smith's decision to veer into uncharted horror territory cemented Tusk as a cult classic. But it's not all about the movie—expect hilarious tangents about podcasting culture, Smith's unique directing style, and how Tusk fits into the horror-comedy landscape. The duo also share some behind-the-scenes trivia, including Smith's struggles to fund and distribute such a peculiar project, the fan reactions that shaped its legacy, and even Johnny Depp's wacky cameo as Guy Lapointe.Whether you're a fan of this walrus-fueled oddity or still wondering if it was all a fever dream, join Aran and Tom as they peel back the layers of Tusk.A podcast episode as weird, entertaining, and memorable as the movie itself! If you enjoyed this - Check out my other content here - https://linktr.ee/FirstClassHorrorBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/classhorrorcast--4295531/support.

Concerns arose because some teachers and media specialists fear repercussions after recent incidents, including a teacher's termination for reading a book on gender inclusivity and the removal of two books from school libraries for containing sexually explicit content. The removals have created a climate of fear among educators who worry about job security. The district denied these allegations and requested specific details rather than media reports to address the claims.   Story 6:  Kennesaw State gets long-awaited game with Chattanooga Kennesaw State's football program will finally face off against Chattanooga, a fellow Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) program located less than 100 miles away, after previous scheduling difficulties. The matchup is significant for Kennesaw State as it transitions to the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) and Conference USA next year. Coach Brian Bohannon expressed a desire to play nearby teams to engage the fan base and increase familiarity with opponents. So far, Kennesaw State has played 12 games against current Southern Conference (SoCon) programs, with a record of 8-4. This game against Chattanooga marks a long-awaited addition to their schedule, with limited future SoCon matchups currently planned.   We'll be back in a moment   Break:   Powers  - Ingles 2 - JRM   Story 7:  Schrieffer   And Now, Bruce Jenkins talks with Leah McGrath from Igles about Probiotics   ***McGrath***     …Back with final thoughts after   Break:   - Henssler 60 Signoff- Thanks again for hanging out with us on today's Marietta Daily Journal podcast. Alvaro Rodriguez has been writing since childhood and, in fact, did his best work when he was 11. Without a movie camera in sight, Rodriguez relied on the written word and a Polaroid Button to storyboard the films in his head. A crash course in entertainment writing and editing at the University of Texas student newspaper and seminars in creative writing supplied more tools for the toolbox. When he riffed on a Spanish guitar figure as the hero's musical theme in cousin Robert Rodriguez's debut film, El Mariachi (1992) (Columbia Pictures, 1993), he began a collaboration that has lasted more than two decades.Rodriguez sold his first pitch to Dimension Films, a spaghetti-western prequel to the genre-bending vampire flick From Dusk Till Dawn (1996) called From Dusk Till Dawn 3: The Hangman's Daughter (1999) (Miramax/Dimension, 2000), which starred Marco Leonardi, Michael Parks, Sonia Braga, Rebecca Gayheart and Danny Trejo, with Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino producing.Rodriguez co-wrote the wishing-rock children's movie Shorts (2009) (Warner Brothers, 2009), starring James Spader, Jon Cryer, Leslie Mann, and William H. Macy, and followed that confection with the bloodier Machete (2010) (Fox, 2010) starring Danny Trejo, Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, Lindsay Lohan, Jeff Fahey, Don Johnson, and Robert De Niro. Both were directed by Robert Rodriguez. As of 2014, he is writing on the television series From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series (2014) for the El Rey Network, now in its second season, and is developing feature and television projects in the United States and Italy.A frequent panelist and presenter at the Austin Film Festival, he has also curated an "Epoca de Oro" Mexican film series at the Museum of South Texas History and has been a speaker at colleges and universities throughout the United States. His border-influenced short fiction has appeared in multiple publications, both physical and digital, including Mulholland Books/Popcorn Fiction, "Along the River" (2011), and the Bram Stoker Award-winning "After Death" (2013).This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/2664729/advertisement

On this very special episode of Not A Bomb, the gang celebrates their three-year anniversary with a show dedicated to all thing's grindhouse cinema. To cap it off, the guys dive deep into 2007's epic theatrical bomb - Grindhouse. We couldn't celebrate this anniversary without some help. So, we asked Sammy, “The Godfather of Grindhouse,” to join us and puts his knowledge on display. Released as an over three-hour experience, Grindhouse featured two full length films - Planet Terror and Death Proof from Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino. Also, various other directors contributed fake move trailers to capture the traditional grindhouse theatrical experience. Sadly, this unique film experience flopped at the box office and prevented audiences from getting another experiment like Grindhouse for a long time. Before the timestamps, we have one last note. We at Not A Bomb thank you for your support over the past three years!
