Ever wondered what kind of chaos mutant cockroaches can unleash on a small town? Join us as we revisit the 1975 horror film "Bug," where an earthquake gives rise to a fiery insect invasion that left a lasting impression on some and terrified others to their core. We explore everything from the movie's dated visuals and slow pace to Mike's childhood trauma and intense fear of cockroaches. We even spice things up with a quirky cocktail, "The Cockroach," blending tequila and Kahlua, which surprisingly wins us over despite its ominous aroma. As we dissect the absurd plot points and laugh at the film's bizarre scientific concepts, we can't help but highlight the ironic deaths of scientists by their own creations and ridiculous scenes where characters try to un-flood cars by stomping repeated on the gas pedal. Confounding moments like cockroaches forming patterns to spell words and outdated '70s culinary choices add layers of both humor and nostalgia. We candidly discuss what stands the test of time and what doesn't, taking a light-hearted jab at the peculiarities of making one's own birthday dinner. We also tackle the film's gratuitous scenes and shocking moments, pondering over sweat-stained characters and an unsettling cat on fire scene. The unsettling portrayal of cockroaches affects us deeply, especially Mike, yet we acknowledge the film's realistic depiction of these creepy crawlies. Tune in as we wrap up with some intriguing film trivia, including its unexpected link to "Jaws," and invite you to join our horror-loving community online. Send us a textThis week on Fabulous Film & Friends it's time to embrace our inner sap as we compare two seminal historically-themed weepie romances that have managed to endure, despite being laden with copious amounts of kettle corn, enough to fill two silos full really: 1980's Somewhere in Time, written by Richard Matheson directed by  Jeannot Szwarc starring Christopher Reeve, Jane Seymour and Christopher Plummer against 1997's Titanic written and directed by James Cameron and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, Billy Zane, David Warner, Francis Fisher, Gloria Stuart, Bill Paxton and Kathy Bates.I'm your host Gino Caputi and this  week I have a full cast of romantics, the king of Salt Lake City, Burton Brown, my kid sister and James Cameron enthusiast, Roseanne Caputi, Joe Field  most sensitive author and hypnotherapist in Texas, and Mr. Rom-com himself, George Young! Before we jump into the abyss the synopses: Somewhere in Time's Richard Collier is an coming college playwright who, following a successful and highly touted college production is visited by an elderly woman who hands him an old gold watch and whispers , “Come Back to Me!”  Eight years later, Richard, now a successful playwright in Chicago goes on a bit of an unscheduled vacation to overcome writer's block, stopping at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island in Michigan. In the hotel museum, he sees the photo of Elise McKenna an incomparably  beautiful and famous actress from the turn of the 20th Century and he is immediately captivated by her beauty and becomes obsessed with learning all about her. Upon discovering that Elise was the woman who handed him the gold watch, he wills himself back in time to the year 1914 to meet her through a form of hypnosis. When they meet: FIREWORKS! But can their love stand the test of time? Titanic recounts the heartrending love affair of poor artist Jack Dawson and high society dame Rose Dewitt Buakater who met and fell in love on the doomed ocean liner four days before it hit an iceberg and sunk on that fateful night in 1912.  But can their love survive the tragedy?  Which film reigns as King of the Corn?Find out!  Follow the FFF Facebook page!https://www.facebook.com/groups/fabulousfilmandfriends Watch the podcast on Youtube https://youtu.be/sbIR1TuBinc

Hosted by Andrew Quinn, Darren Mooney and Emma Kiely, and this time with special guest Jess Dunne, The 250 is a weekly trip through some of the best (and worst) movies ever made, as voted for by Internet Movie Database Users. New episodes are released Saturdays at 6pm GMT. This week, we're doing something a bit unusual. To line up with Shark Week, we are covering the Jaws franchise. So today, Jeannot Szwarc's Jaws 2. It has been several years since a series of shark attack scarred Amity Island, but Chief Brody is still scarred by the experience. As the community prepares to usher in a prosperous new era of investment and development, Brody starts to see signs that a shark is once again stalking the waters off these peaceful shores. Can Brody convince the community that they are in mortal danger or will the monster finish off the seaside town? At time of recording, it not was ranked on the lists of either the best or the worst movies of all time on the Internet Movie Database.

This first follow up replaces the suspense with more shark action, like Jaws eating a helicopter and a water skier. The film works until the plot shifts away from Chief Brody and starts focusing on a group of teens stuck adrift in Jaws infested waters. Superman producers Alexander and Ilya Salkind squeeze Santa through their Man of Steel mold and deliver a truly bizarre yet good hearted tale of a resurrected Zombie Claus who delivers crappy wooden toys to ungrateful brats who prefer explosive, radioactive candy from a traitorous, sell-out elf. Jaws 2 is set four years after Jaws, in the same island community of Amity. Chief Brody (Roy Scheider) still patrols, though now shaken from his ordeal with the shark. Mayor Vaughn (Murray Hamilton) is catering to a land developer on the construction of new waterfront condominiums that will be very lucrative for a town still struggling to bring in tourists after the shark attacks of the past. When calamities occur again in the ocean, Brody becomes suspicious that another shark is on the prowl. Once again, the mayor and city council of the town refuse to listen due to economic interests. Brody persists until he loses his job, but still must act, this time as a father, when his sons and their friends become stranded in the ocean with no one but a crazed shark in sight. Jeannot Szwarc directs.

This week on DC TV Classics, Keith Chow and Adam Starcaster analyze the first incarnation of an extended DC Universe, 1984's Supergirl. Directed by Jeannot Szwarc, the Salkinds attempted to broaden the universe created in the Christopher Reeve Superman movies by exploring the adventures of his "cousin" Kara Zor-El. Starring Helen Slater in the title role and Faye Dunaway -- as the villainous witch Selena, Supergirl failed to meet the box office heights of its predecessors. Despite its box office struggles, the movie will go down in history as the first mainstream female superhero film, paving the way for current franchises like Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel as well as the Maiden of Might's own hit television series! Kids today have Captain Marvel and Wonder Woman. But back in 1984 we got the first superhero film featuring a woman as the lead - Supergirl. That Film Stew's Luke and Comiczone's Jae revisit the canonically connected spin-off film to the Christopher Reeves Superman franchise. Directed by Jeannot Szwarc, Supergirl stars Helen Slater as the title hero, Faye Dunaway as the villainous Selena, and Marc McClure as Jimmy Olsen (reprising his role from the Superman films). After losing a powerful orb known as the Omegahedron, Kara Zor-El (Superman's cousin), comes to Earth to retrieve it and instead finds herself up against a power-hungry would-be witch. Kara becomes Supergirl, adopts the identity Linda Lee, and saves the day.

Is it fun? Is it dumb?  Is it dumb fun? Yes, yes, and yes!

Matheson, Part 10: Recap. Richard Matheson’s influence on science fiction cannot be measured. Whether it’s I Am Legend or The Twilight Zone, Matheson’s impact on what has come since is massive. This week, Max and Mike try to examine Matheson’s career by looking at a tiny cross-section of his work. Specifically, we recap our series on Matheson’s novels that have been adapted into movies. Starting at the beginning, we look at the books, Someone is Bleeding, I Am Legend, The Shrinking Man, A Stir of Echoes, Ride the Nightmare, Hell House, Bid Time Return, and What Dreams May Come, and their motion picture counterparts, Georges Lautner’s Icy Breasts, Sidney Salkow’s The Last Man on Earth, Boris Sagal’s The Omega Man, Francis Lawrence’s I Am Legend, Jack Arnold’s The Incredible Shrinking Man, Joel Schumacher’s The Incredible Shrinking Woman, David Koepp’s Stir of Echoes, Terence Young’s Cold Sweat, John Hough’s The Legend of Hell House, Jeannot Szwarc’s Somewhere in Time, and Vincent Ward’s What Dreams May Come. Matheson, Part 8: Bid Time Return. In 1975, Richard Matheson published what he considered to be his best novel to date, Bid Time Return. It tells the story of a dying young man who sees a 75-year old picture of an actress, and falls instantly in love with her. He convinces himself that it is his destiny to travel back in time to meet her. Five years later, Matheson adapted the book into a film entitled Somewhere in Time. It was directed by Jeannot Szwarc, and starred Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. While largely ignored upon release, the film has since developed a large cult following which closely resembles Star Trek fandom in many ways. This week, Max and Mike discuss the time travel device used in the book, whether or not the movie improves on its source material, and where this novel fits into Matheson’s career. We also take a look at INSITE, the International Network of Somewhere In Time Enthusiasts.
