Love Stops (Go: Reach one more.)

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 7, 2026 30:00

Move beyond simply believing the right things and start living out the love of Jesus in practical ways. In Luke 10, Jesus confronts a religious expert who wants to know who qualifies as a “neighbor.” Instead of giving a list, Jesus tells a story that flips expectations upside down. The people who should have stopped to help didn't, while the person least expected to show compassion became the hero. The message reminds us that real love is more than a feeling—it stops, notices people, crosses boundaries, and costs something. Just as Jesus stopped for us in our brokenness, we are called to stop for others and bring His love into the everyday interruptions of life. (Talk by Joshua Ott)

Move beyond simply consuming church content and start actively contributing to God's mission in the world. Faith was never meant to stay inside church walls. Jesus calls ordinary people—not just pastors or church leaders—to serve, love, encourage, and point others toward Him in everyday life. While stepping out can feel uncomfortable and inconvenient, the message emphasizes that people are desperately searching for something real, and God wants to use His people to bring hope into a hurting world. The challenge is simple but powerful: if not you, then who? (Talk by Josh Daubert)

Something as small as the tongue can completely shape the direction of relationships, families, and even entire lives. Words don't just communicate—they create. They can build trust, peace, confidence, and healing, or they can create anxiety, insecurity, conflict, and destruction. In a world driven by quick reactions, texting, social media, and constant opinions, followers of Jesus are called to a different rhythm: quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry. The message challenges us to stop using words carelessly and instead become people who speak truth with love, creating life instead of chaos in the relationships around us. (Talk by Joshua Ott)

It's easy to build mental spreadsheets of offenses, failures, and painful moments—especially with the people closest to us. While hurt and betrayal are real, constantly replaying the past and holding on to receipts slowly poisons relationships with resentment, defensiveness, and bitterness. Real love chooses a different path. Instead of operating transactionally, it gives grace, deals with issues honestly, and focuses on moving forward instead of weaponizing the past. Jesus erased our debt and showed us what grace looks like, and that challenges us to extend that same grace to others. (Talk by Joshua Ott)

When Anger Takes Over (How Not To Ruin Everything)

Play Episode Listen Later May 10, 2026 30:00

While anger itself isn't always sinful, unchecked anger can quietly poison relationships, destroy families, and damage our own hearts. Throughout Scripture, we see a clear difference between human anger, which is often driven by pride and selfishness, and God's righteous anger, which is rooted in love, justice, and truth. Anger is usually a symptom of something deeper happening inside us, including wounds, memories, or sinful patterns that have taken root over time. But there's hope: through God's Word, prayer, and the work of the Holy Spirit, we don't have to stay trapped in old cycles. In Christ, we are new people, and anger does not have to control our lives anymore. (Talk by Don Baker)

You Need Boundaries (How Not To Ruin Everything)

Play Episode Listen Later May 3, 2026 30:00

Many of us have been conditioned to believe that saying “yes” is always good and saying “no” is selfish, but over time that mindset leads to burnout, resentment, and strained relationships. Looking at the life of Jesus, we see a different model—one where He regularly stepped away, said no to expectations, and protected time with God, even when people needed Him. The takeaway is clear: if Jesus, who loved perfectly, had boundaries, then we need them too. Healthy boundaries don't push people away—they actually protect your soul, your relationship with God, and your ability to love others well. Sometimes the most loving thing you can do is say no. (Talk by Joshua Ott)

While it may seem harmless, the need to be right is often rooted in pride and quietly pushes people away, makes others feel unheard, and ultimately dishonors God. True humility isn't thinking less of ourselves—it's valuing others above ourselves and choosing love over winning. Jesus, who was always right, modeled this perfectly by putting others first. The challenge is simple but deep: if we truly love God, it should show up in how we treat people. (Talk by Josh Daubert)

Jesus teaches in Matthew 5 that making things right with people is so important that it should come before even our acts of worship. The problem is, most of us don't really apologize—we defend, deflect, or soften the landing with excuses. Real change happens when we stop protecting our pride and take full ownership of our actions. This is the clear path: own it, say it, feel it, change it, go to the person, and make it right. It's not easy—it costs pride and comfort—but it opens the door to healing, freedom, and stronger relationships with both people and God. (Talk by Joshua Ott)

One of the biggest relationship killers is our inability to see our own part in the problem. Stop focusing so much on what other people are doing wrong and start honestly looking at ourselves. The truth is, we all have blind spots—patterns, habits, and attitudes that quietly damage our relationships if left unchecked. Real change doesn't start when someone else finally gets it together; it starts when we let God search our hearts, show us what needs to change, and give us the humility to own our part. You may not be able to change other people, but you can let God change you—and that can change everything. (Talk by Joshua Ott)

Easter is deeply personal. Mary Magdalene arrives at the tomb overwhelmed by grief, confusion, and pain—so consumed by what she's lost that she can't even recognize hope standing right in front of her. But when Jesus simply speaks her name, everything changes. Resurrection is not just a theological idea; it's a personal invitation from a God who knows us, pursues us, and offers new life. No matter what pain, anxiety, shame, or brokenness someone is carrying, the empty tomb means their story is not over. Hope is available, and starting again is as simple as turning toward Jesus. After walking through the consequences of sin and the brokenness it brought into the world—shame, distance from God, and pain—we see something surprising: God's response isn't just punishment, it's protection and a plan. By keeping Adam and Eve from the tree of life, God is actually preserving the possibility of redemption instead of locking humanity into brokenness forever. God's plan ultimately leads to Jesus, who makes a way back to Him. The takeaway is simple but powerful: the world is broken, but there is real hope, and it's found in choosing to trust and follow Jesus. (Talk by Josh Daubert)

From the very beginning, God doesn't just explain the consequences; He provides a covering and points forward to Jesus, who ultimately defeats sin and restores us. God asks Adam and Eve two powerful questions after their failure: “Who told you that?” and “Did you eat from the tree?” These aren't questions meant to shame them—they're an invitation to pause, rewind the tape, and understand how they got there. The same thing happens in our lives. We start believing lies about ourselves, about God, or about our worth, and those lies slowly shape the choices we make. God's questions lead us toward two healthy responses: recognizing where those lies came from and taking honest ownership of our decisions. When we stop blaming others and bring our failures to God, we discover something surprising—He already knows everything about us and still meets us with grace, forgiveness, and the chance for a fresh start. Shame convinces us that our mistakes define us, pushes us to hide behind busy lives or excuses, and makes us feel like we have to run from God instead of toward Him. But the good news is that God's response has always been the same: He comes looking for us. Just like He asked Adam and Eve, “Where are you?”, God still pursues us today with grace, not condemnation. Real freedom begins when we stop hiding and bring our shame to the cross where Jesus already carried it for us. (Talk by Josh Daubert)

Temptation rarely shows up loud and obvious—it starts subtle and escalates fast. The serpent doesn't just offer fruit; he offers autonomy, control, and the illusion that we can be our own god. And just like that burning bush story gone wrong, what seems small can spiral quickly. Sin always promises more than it delivers and costs more than we expect. At the core, this is about identity and trust—forgetting who God is and who we already are in Him. Every day we face two voices and two choices: life or death, control or surrender. The invitation is simple but powerful—step off the throne of your own life and let God be God again. (Talk by Joshua Ott)

Small compromises rarely feel dangerous in the moment. It's “just a” little bitterness, just a little scrolling, just a little secret, just a little drift. But spiritual and personal blow-ups don't start with dramatic decisions—they start with subtle ones. The enemy rarely attacks head-on; he whispers, twists what's good into something restrictive, and slowly blurs what used to feel clear. That quiet drift creates a predictable path toward brokenness. But the story doesn't end there. From the very first crack, God has been offering a way back, and the path forward begins by anchoring yourself in truth, trusting God's goodness, and choosing His voice over the one that only steals. Through a raw cry, a desperate ask, and an unwavering hold on God's unchanging character, we see a pathway for walking through the “in-between” seasons—those frustrating gaps between promise and fulfillment. This talk invites us to cry out honestly, lean into God dependently, and hold on to His goodness, even when nothing around us makes sense. (Talk by Joshua Ott)

We tend to forget the best part of a story—the ending. And while how a story starts matters, how it ends matters more. The middle doesn't define the finish. In Jesus' parable, the story ends abruptly—left open on purpose. Why? Because we're the ones who finish it. The questions it leaves us with are powerful: Which brother are you? What's keeping you from the celebration? Can you embrace grace—for others and yourself? How will your story end? And what kind of church are we becoming? (Talk by Joshua Ott)

The older brother is a character that's often missed or overlooked—but he's actually the key to the story. Jesus uses him to show that you can be in the house, close to the Father, and still be lost. Proximity doesn't equal intimacy. You can look the part, but religion without relationship is still rebellion. Don't miss out on the joy and grace God wants to give because your heart isn't aligned with His. (Talk by Joshua Ott)

Sometimes one word can mean two opposite things—like “buckle” (to fasten or to collapse) or “clip” (to cut or to connect). The word “prodigal” is the same. It can mean recklessly wasteful or extravagantly generous. In Luke 15, we see both: a son who wasted everything and a father who gave everything. As Tim Keller points out, this story is really about the father—our God—who is radically generous with grace and love. So the question is: which kind of life are you choosing? One that chases empty things or one defined by a Father who calls you His own? (Talk by Joshua Ott)

The lost son hit rock bottom—and finally woke up. In a moment of painful clarity, he saw his condition for what it was and realized, “I don't belong here.” That self-awareness was the first step home. While some of us learn the hard way, we don't have to. If we truly saw the kindness of the Father and the difference between the emptiness of everything else and the fullness He offers, we might turn back sooner. The son got honest, confessed where he'd gone wrong, and even though he didn't fully grasp the Father's love—he got up and went. (Talk by Joshua Ott)

    How it Starts (Prodigals)

Maybe you've heard it said, "it's not how you start it's how you finish." Which is 100 percent true but also sometimes how I start is a disaster and sets the whole tone for the journey. This story didn't start well and it started well before the son asked for his inheritance and left the father. It started small, subtle, and internal. Maybe with a little dissatisfaction, maybe he started comparing his life with his brothers, maybe he was romanticizing life outside the house, had some unresolved frustration or was indulging private fantasies. What it was let him to a point where he made a decision. It always is a decision that we make after indulging the internal that leads to all the rest. (Talk by Joshua Ott)
