Ich erinnere mich noch, wie ich vor mehreren Jahren den ersten Trailer zu Lost Soul Aside gesehen habe und direkt gehyped war. Nun ist es endlich da und es hat zum Teil diesen Glanz verloren. Gerade die ersten paar Stunden haben es mir schwer gemacht, allem voran die Sound Probleme. Unser Charakter Kaser prügelt in einer gescrippteten Sequenz auf einen Gegner ein und man hört die Einschläge nicht, oder aber die Sounds sind unterschiedlich laut / leise, oder die Hintergrundmusik (welche teilweise echt gut ist) endet abrupt. Dabei kann das Spiel so viel Spaß machen vom reinen Action-Gameplay! Anfänglich hat man noch keine großen Kombos, aber je weiter man kommt und je mehr Waffen man freischaltet, umso cooler sieht das Spiel aus! Und hier ist auch direkt wieder die Schattenseite: Die Kombos können sehr cool aussehen, gerade wenn unsere Waffen Feuer-, Blitz- oder Eis-Effekte haben, aber so sieht man teilweise auch nicht, was gerade im Kampf passiert, weil der Bildschirm überladen ist. Und das wars auch schon. Die Story ist ziemlich 0815 und so wird sie auch erzählt, mehrmals habe ich mich erwischt, wie ich mehr auf mein Handy konzentriert war, weil sie einfach nicht fesselt, leider. In den Schlauch-Leveln haben wir immer wieder Jump`n`Run Passagen die eher frustrierend als Spaß machen, obwohl sie ja eigentlich für Abwechslung sorgen.

This week on Critical Arcade, Nick and Dave finally get their hands on Lost Soul Aside, the game that spent longer in development than Dave did in college. They step into the boots of Kaser, a moody anime protagonist with more hair gel than common sense, and his wise-cracking dragon symbiote, Arena, who never misses an opportunity to roast his host. Together, they'll stylishly hack, slash, and combo their way through enemies faster than Nick can say “Wait, which button dodges again?”As the particle effects blind Dave mid-fight, Nick tries to piece together the story, which may or may not involve ancient wars, corrupted armies, and at least one villain who looks like they shop exclusively at the “Final Boss Emporium.” Will Nick survive the sensory overload without mistaking his health bar for his Wi-Fi signal? And how many times will Dave compare every over-the-top cutscene to an anime he swears “you just haven't seen yet, but totally should”?With Arena's snark stealing the spotlight and more flashy combos than either host can realistically pull off, Nick and Dave will find out whether Lost Soul Aside is a glorious action RPG masterpiece or just a very expensive excuse to make your console sound like it's about to take flight. Ellen Schrecker is the preeminent historian of McCarthyism/The Red Scare in America and we had a really great conversation with her about the resurgence of political repression today . . . Professor Schrecker argues that what we're seeing right now under the Trump administration, especially the attack on Palestine advocates on campuses, is already worse than the early Cold War years.
