Living on Purpose - "Be Polite" - 1 Corinthians 13:5; Luke 7:36-50 Pride often begins quietly—as an attitude of the heart—but it eventually shows itself in public ways, including rudeness. Just as patience expresses itself through kindness, pride reveals itself through how we treat others. In Jesus' visit to the home of Simon the Pharisee, we're given a striking lesson on courtesy, hospitality, and the spiritual weight of small actions. It's easy to dismiss polite behavior as insignificant, but Jesus shows us otherwise: the small things are often the big things.

What if healing is not something that happens to you but something you actively participate in every single day? In this episode of the Thrive State Podcast, I sit down with Steve White, founder of Brae 100 and HomeTeams, to explore what real healing actually looks like beyond the clinic walls. Steve shares the moment in nature that changed the trajectory of his life, why forgiveness may be one of the most powerful biological interventions we have, and how discipline outperforms motivation when it comes to lasting transformation. We break down the science behind agency, community, and caring, including how stress physiology, inflammation, and immune function are influenced by mindset, behavior, and connection. This conversation is a reminder that the most important medicine often happens in the other 23 hours of your day. If you are navigating chronic illness, supporting someone you love, or looking to reclaim ownership of your health and purpose, this episode will meet you exactly where you are.
Living on Purpose - "Be Humble" - 1 Corinthians 13:4; Luke 18:9-14 Pride is often hardest to see in ourselves and easiest to spot in others—a sure sign of our blind spots. Jesus exposes this hidden danger through a parable where pride quietly disguises itself as righteousness. Which character do you see yourself in? Which one would you want to live with, work alongside, or serve under? The invitation is simple, but challenging: embrace humility, recognize your blind spots, and get over yourself.

Living on Purpose - "Live Contentment" - 1 Corinthians 13:4; Philippians 2:5-8 What truly drives the way we relate to others—contentment or craving? Jesus warned of the danger of envy, experienced its harm firsthand, and yet lived with deep, unmistakable contentment. Though he lived simply, without even a place to lay his head, peace marked his life. That contentment is felt by those who follow him. As Paul reminds us in Philippians 2, Jesus laid aside everything to take up the Way of Love—and calls us to embrace that same heart and mindset.
Living on purpose was never meant to be done alone. In Acts 1, Jesus called His followers to stay together and devote themselves to prayer while waiting for the promise of the Father. Their unity, with one accord, positioned them to receive power, direction, and boldness from the Holy Spirit. This kind of unity required intentional, Christ-centered relationships marked by humility, patience, forgiveness, and love. Prayer was central, as they continually sought God together through both devotion and supplication. As they remained united in relationship, prayer, and purpose, God empowered them to move forward and fulfill their calling as His witnesses.
Living on Purpose - "Show Kindness" - Mark 1:40-42 Kindness is patience put into action. Jesus shows this in His encounter with the leper—seeing him, listening to him, and even touching him. More than healing his body, Jesus restored his dignity and reconnected him to others. Simple acts of kindness—a word, a touch, a moment of listening—may last only seconds, but their impact can echo for a lifetime. Are you living with intentional kindness?
This week, Jake began a new mini-series, Living on Purpose, and today we discussed how before Jesus sent His followers into action, He commanded them to wait. After the resurrection, Jesus clarified their purpose: to be witnesses to all nations, but instead of giving a strategy, He promised power through the Holy Spirit and instructed them to stay, tarry, and abide in Jerusalem. This waiting was not passive; it was a posture of sitting, remaining, and abiding in God through devoted prayer. The disciples obeyed by gathering in unity and committing themselves to prayer and supplication, modeling how God's direction, power, and peace come not from rushing into purpose but from patiently abiding with Him. Living on purpose, personally and as a church, begins with learning the posture of Jesus; sitting and abiding in prayer while waiting for God's lead.
Living on Purpose - "Begin with Patience" - 1 Corinthians 13:4; Luke 8:40-56 Patience is one of the first casualties of our hurried, self-focused lives. We struggle to be patient with our families, coworkers, and even strangers because we are busy and convinced our time is too important to give away. Yet patience may be the hardest—and most essential—habit to cultivate. In this episode, we see how Jesus, even in the most urgent and demanding moments of His life, moved through the pressure of crowds and suffering people with grace, focus, and deep love. At the heart of His patience was a clear understanding of time and a willingness to share it. If we hope to truly love others, patience isn't optional—it's foundational.
Living on Purpose - "The Heart of it All" - 1 Corinthians 12:31b-1 Corinthians 13:3; Matthew 22:34-40 Love is at the heart of it all. Jesus called us to love God and love people—simple in words, yet challenging in practice. Too often, our good intentions are crowded out by hurry, distraction, and misplaced priorities. But what if we chose to love with purpose, devotion, and a genuine commitment to put others first? Living with intentional, wholehearted love has the power to transform our relationships, our churches, and even the world. That's exactly what Jesus came to do—and He invites us to carry that love forward. In the weeks ahead, we'll explore this essential calling and discover what it truly means to be people who love, even beyond reason.

Everyone wants to know: Who am I? and Why am I here? In this message, Pastor Tim unpacks the third part of Vida Church's purpose series: “Made alive by Jesus to bring life to the world.” Discover why church is the first place we practice our purpose—a place where we care for each other, display heaven to the world, and give and receive the life of Jesus. You'll learn: • Why bringing life starts with God's family first
Life on “autopilot” makes us drift, so 1 Peter 4:7–11 calls us to live on purpose: serve with urgency because time is short, serve with love that shows up in actions, serve through the gifts and passions God already put in you, and serve for one reason—to point people to Jesus. We weren't designed to warm the bench but to do good that helps others and glorifies God. So ask what you're doing for God and for people—then do it today, not someday. (Talk by Josh Daubert)

Send us a textWhat if the way we've been taught to think about work is fundamentally flawed? Labor Day offers the perfect moment to question our relationship with work and consider a different path forward. When Merriam-Webster defines labor as "a dull, unpleasant or difficult piece of work," it reflects how most of us experience our jobs – as burdens rather than blessings. Many of us are caught in what I call the "matrix merry-go-round" – working endless hours at jobs we dislike, just to stay afloat financially. We're "Just Over Broke," dependent on systems that were designed to keep us exhausted, compliant, and unable to pursue our true purpose. But there's another perspective worth considering. Throughout spiritual traditions, work is framed not as punishment but as meaningful contribution. The biblical view presents labor as part of our divine purpose, with Colossians reminding us to work "heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men." When we begin viewing our efforts as service to something greater than corporations or paychecks, everything shifts.Breaking free from the matrix doesn't happen overnight. It's a journey that requires courage, persistence, and trust. Perhaps you're still punching a time clock but dreaming of independence. Maybe you've moved to freelance work or started a side hustle. Whatever stage you're at, remember Ralph Waldo Emerson's wisdom: "Without ambition, one starts nothing. Without work, one finishes nothing." The path to freedom requires both the vision to begin and the persistence to complete. This Labor Day, I invite you to reconsider what you're laboring for. Are you building someone else's dream or your own? Are you planting seeds for future freedom? The journey of ascension – of rising above limiting systems – requires effort, but it's the most worthwhile work you'll ever do. Join me in creating a life where we're truly free to just be who we were meant to be.Support the show
