Pastors are not superheroes or religious handymen—they are shepherds called to teach, pray, protect, and equip the church. And the rest of us? We're not spectators. We're ministers too. If we want a healthy, growing church, we all have to carry the weight together and give our pastors the space to do what God actually called them to do. (Talk by Don Baker)
Today, we're joined by a true legend of Irish music, the incredible Don Baker. Life doesn't always make sense, and neither does suffering—but Job's story proves that faith isn't about having answers, it's about trusting God through the chaos. He lost everything, faced bad advice, and still held on. When we stop trying to control the unknown and surrender to God, we realize He's been in control all along. Even when we can't see Him working, He never abandons us. (Talk by Don Baker)
Isaiah 53 foretells the suffering and sacrifice of Jesus, written 700 years before His crucifixion. Many people misunderstand Christ's purpose, much like the Jewish people who expected a warrior king but received a suffering servant. Jesus took on unimaginable pain, rejection, and humiliation to bear our sins, fulfilling God's plan for salvation. His suffering was not an accident but an intentional act of love, bringing healing and restoration to all who believe in Him. Even now, Jesus intercedes for us, offering redemption to those who turn to Him. (Talk by Don Baker)
In this talk we explore how the Old Testament foreshadowed and foretold the coming of Christ, highlighting key prophecies that point to His birth, mission, and victory over sin. The fulfillment of these prophecies in Christ underscores God's sovereign plan and assures us that Christ is the ultimate source of security and salvation. (Talk by Don Baker)

Although this started as a conversation about Gwangju and Professor Don Baker's experiences there starting in 1971, including witnessing the aftermath of the massacre in 1980, we quickly understood there was much more for us to explore. This includes Don's impressions of Kim Dae-jung, gender and women in the Joseon Dynasty, Korea's historical relationship with China, Confucianism and ancestor worship, the effects of Japanese colonization, and the field of Korean Studies more broadly. It was completely spontaneous, but I also noted the following people and their work referenced throughout this conversation, demonstrating the depth and breadth of Don's knowledge: Alexis Dudden, Dave C Kang, Alexander Woodside, Jisoo Kim, Hyaeweol Choi, Carter Eckert, Andre Schmid, Jahyun Kim Haboush, Gregory Henderson, Robert Carlin, Eugene Park, Michael Seth, John Jorgensen, Kim Sun Joo, BR Myers, Bruce Cumings, James Palais, Mark Peterson, John Duncan, Steve Shields, and David Dolinger. Despite knowing the tragedy and violence taking place in Gwangju, Don snuck into the city to find his friends and understand what was really happening. His descriptions of the attacks and murder that took place in Gwangju are heartbreaking to listen to. And through all of this, he nevertheless finishes with words of hope and positivity. While the world seeks to conform us (an external change), God transforms us from the inside out. We are gifted with a fulfilling, new life when we accept God. Is God an unrelenting tyrant? Is He a pushover? Does He waiver, making demands of us sometimes and taking an apathetic stance toward others? We know God reigns, but how? With the aid of a simple parable, this Talk reveals the extraordinary character of God and our relationship with Him. (Talk by Don Baker)
Understanding God's holiness is key to knowing Him. Our culture has a tendency to downplay who God is; He's a genie, a myth, or some distant entity we could never hope to understand. Since we aren't equal to God, it can be challenging to view Him accurately. Let's take a renewed look at God and His defining characteristics. (Talk by Don Baker)

Episode # 54:….Phillip Lansdell & Kimmy Porter, El Dorado HS, El Dorado, ARToday we have the pleasure of sitting down with Athletic Director Phillip Lansdell and Head Basketball Coach Jimmy Porter of El Dorado High School in EL Dorado, Arkansas. But it was the actions of the El Dorado players...the opponent that struck us. Their ability to not only be in the moment but a part of the moment was something we just had to get to thew bottom of, so we reached out to Phillip and he and his coach Jimmy agreed to take the time to discuss the night and sportsmanship in general.
