In this sermon, Karl Ihfe delves into the concept of the "lag" between what we hear in God's word and what we see in the world around us. Using Hebrews 2 and Psalm 8, he illustrates how we were created to rule with God, but sin disrupted this plan. Ihfe points to Jesus as the true human who has fulfilled this calling and now sits at the right hand of the Father. Ihfe acknowledges the tension we experience when we don't see everything subject to Christ yet, despite the promises we've received. He encourages believers to keep their eyes on Jesus, who has gone before us as our pioneer and guide. The sermon addresses the slavery to the fear of death that many experience and how Jesus frees us from this bondage. Ihfe concludes by urging the church to persevere in faith, to meet together regularly, and to support one another in life's challenges. He reminds us that Jesus, being fully human, has experienced our temptations and struggles, making Him the perfect leader to follow as we navigate this "already but not yet" reality of God's kingdom. https://bwaychurch.org

Many Christians don't know that we are running a race. We are more conscious about the race of life, academics, marriage and not the race of the kingdom. Using Hebrews 12:1, Pastor Charles highlights that in the midst of these races, God has set Christians on a race to run. It is easy to forget the race God has set before us. It is easy to forget the fact that we will be judged by how well we run the race of the kingdom. However, Pastor Charles entreats Christians to prevent the races of this world from overshadowing God's race. Consciously run God's race before any other race! Run's God's race first! Seek God first! The end time is here! What did you do for God?

Using Hebrews 1:3 as a foundation, he reminds us that Jesus is 'the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of His being.' We're encouraged to contemplate the vastness of creation, from the intricate design of a grasshopper's eye to the immensity of galaxies, all reflecting God's glory. Using Hebrews 5-7, Pastor Dan Watson helps us answer the question “why did we need another high priest?” We see that sacrifices, atonement and trying to abide by the laws were not enough to save God's people. We needed a powerful and indestructible High Priest, which we received in Jesus. Jesus was the only one who could truly save the people of God and our response should be to glorify and praise Him. Through every circumstance, we can hold onto hope by leaning into scripture and fleeing the things that cause us to drift away from Him.

At TGC21, Michael Horton explains how we, as sinners, can take our sin to a holy God without fear because of our sympathetic high priest, Jesus. Horton takes Friedrich Nietzsche's writing on “the ugliest man,” who claimed to kill God because he couldn't bear to have someone know his dirtiest corners, and parallels it with how we can bring our dirtiest sins to the Father through Jesus, without shame. Using Hebrews 4, Horton shows how Jesus is a glorious High Priest, a sympathetic High Priest, and a gracious High Priest. In the person of Christ, we have advocate who can actually sympathize with us because he became like us, yet without sin. This is the greatest news of all—that we can take our dirtiness to the Father, knowing we will be met with grace because the Son fully understands what it is to be human.
