With the ballots finally counted and the results official, Alberta's 2025 municipal election cycle is one for the books. New regulations brought in by the provincial government for voters casting ballots for mayor, councillor and school trustee saw a requirement for a new attestation form, a ban on electronic tabulators in favour of hand counting, and the addition of political parties to Calgary and Edmonton. This week on West of Centre, host Kathleen Petty is joined by journalist and editor of The Sprawl, Jeremy Klaszus; Edmonton Journal civic affairs columnist Keith Gerein; and Mount Royal University political science professor Lori Williams. With the elections in many cities and towns hampered by long lines and slow processing times, the panel suggests some of the changes amount to a real problem for democracy.Host: Kathleen Petty | Producer & editor: Diane Yanko | Guests: Jeremy Klaszus, Keith Gerein, Lori Williams

Today, we explore the psychological and sociological issues behind a government shutdown. Over three weeks into the government shutdown that we were told would mess up our lives, and most people don't even feel it. The longer it goes, the more we have to question what our government is actually accomplishing while it's open and running. Are we spending time, energy, and resources in the most effective way? Should we cut more programs? What does this situation teach us about how we function? Travis Justice and Dr. Rob Zatechka break down a Friday-night flop that saw nine sacks, a sputtering run game, and a defense bullied on a 98-yard, 8:43 drive to open the second half. Is Nebraska's offensive line development the program's biggest long-term problem? What's fair criticism of Donovan Raiola after five seasons? And where do Matt Rhule and his coordinators fit in when halftime adjustments don't show up? They also look ahead to Northwestern—now quietly 5–2—discuss why the Wildcats' ball-control blueprint is Nebraska's worst nightmare, and explain why the Huskers' margin for error remains razor thin heading into the season's final five games. BT and Sal dive into the Aaron Glenn debate, energized by a caller who suggests the Jets coach isn't "scared to lose, but scared to win." The hosts dissect Glenn's seemingly hesitant decision-making, comparing him to Brian Daboll's fearless, early-career gambles. While acknowledging that Justin Fields' poor play is a factor, they argue Glenn is not absolved from making "horrific decisions." The conversation quickly escalates into a "Harbaugh Watch," with Sal questioning whether the Jets should pull the plug on Glenn after one season if a known commodity like John Harbaugh unexpectedly becomes available. Plus, a quick look at the Jets' possible trade targets (Olave, Waddle) and a preview of the upcoming Yankees press conference with Boone and Cashman.

Rethinking the problem and our mindset from scratch when it comes to this whole life thing. What if the problem isn't your schedule—it's your metaphor? We've inherited a story about work and life as opposing forces, locked in eternal combat for our limited hours. This story feels true because everyone tells it. But stories shape reality. Consider this: your life contains multitudes. Work, yes. But also relationships, creativity, health, community, growth. None of these oppose each other inherently. A parent who calls their family "their life" earns respect. Someone who calls work "their life" earns concern. Same language. Different judgment. The opportunity lies in reimagining the entire framework—from balance to integration, from opposition to synergy. This episode explores: How the words we choose create the reality we experience Why integration creates compound satisfaction that balance never could The path from competing priorities to mutually reinforcing life architecture NEW SHOW - How to Change the World: The History and Future of Innovation Learn about the evolving story of the human species and our ideas told in chronological order. The Summer I Turned Pretty has become one of the biggest teen dramas of our current era, and one of the most contentious aspects of the show has actually ended up being the girl at the center of it all: Belly Conklin. She is quite the polarizing figure; while many find her to be relatable, others have had a very hard time connecting with her at all (and some have even come to see her as the villain of the show.) Belly's story digs into the true messiness of growing up and trying to figure out who you are in a world that doesn't always seem to make sense. She's cringe, messy, indecisive, a little (okay, maybe a lot…) selfish – but not necessarily unrealistic. We explore how modern approaches can move beyond endless reports and generic fixes, toward real context-aware workflows that actually empower developers and security teams. We talk about: The Real Problem in Vulnerability ManagementWhy remediation—not just prioritization—remains the toughest challenge, and how AI can help bridge the gap between vulnerabilities and the developers who need to fix them. Context, Ownership, and VelocityHow linking vulnerabilities to the right applications and teams inside their daily tools (like GitHub) reduces friction, speeds up patching, and improves security without slowing developers down. AI Agents and the Future of SecurityWhy we should think of AI agents as “extra eyes and hands,” and how they’re reshaping everything from threat detection to system design, phishing campaigns, and organizational defense models. Attackers Move FirstHow attackers are already building unified world models of their targets using AI, and why defenders need to match (or exceed) this intelligence to stay ahead. How to Turn Podcast Interviews Into a Sales Lead Machine

Sales Gravy: Jeb Blount

While your competitors are stuck in voicemail purgatory, a small group of top performers has unlocked a secret pipeline of qualified sales leads. They've discovered how to stop chasing and start attracting, all by generating warm leads through podcast interviews. Not by starting their own shows, but by treating every podcast appearance as a lead generation machine built on conversation and credibility. As Molly Ruland, CEO of Heartcast Media, puts it, "You don't need a hundred new clients tomorrow. Two people who really like you and understand your business talking about you in rooms you're not in can change your pipeline."  This mindset shift transforms how you approach every conversation so that it compounds into trust, referrals, and revenue. The Real Problem with Your Pipeline You're sending out hundreds of emails, making dozens of cold calls, and hoping something sticks. It's exhausting—and it rarely produces the kind of relationships that lead to real opportunities. Your prospects don't want to be sold to. They're sick of transactional relationships. They want genuine conversations and solutions from people they trust. This is where most salespeople fail to find a qualified sales lead. They're focused on the sale, not the connection.  So what's the alternative? It's learning to treat every podcast appearance as more than just an interview. Done right, podcasts become a warm stage where you can demonstrate expertise, build credibility, and start relationships that turn into pipeline. To make this work, you need a simple, repeatable system—a four-step process that transforms a single podcast conversation into a flow of qualified leads. Step 1: Finding the Right Stage The process is about being smart, not getting famous. You don't need to get on the biggest podcast in the world. You need to get on the right podcast. The right podcast is where your ideal customer profile (ICP) is already gathered, listening, and learning. A show with 50 listeners who are all in your target market is a thousand times more valuable than a show with 50,000 listeners who will never buy from you. How do you find the right podcasts?  Ask your best clients what they listen to.  Research key influencers in your space.  Look for shows that specifically address the problems you solve.  Your goal is simple: Find and get on shows hosted by industry connectors, aggregators, and experts who have already earned the trust of your prospects. This allows you to skip the cold outreach and get a warm introduction to your next qualified sales lead. Step 2: The Introduction That Doesn't Sound Like a Pitch Once you've identified your target shows, the next step is getting invited. This is a crucial moment. A generic email won't cut it. You have to craft a message that offers value, not asks for a favor. Your outreach needs to be personalized and direct. Don't talk about how great you are. Talk about the host's audience. Explain why your expertise, insights, or unique perspective will provide undeniable value to their listeners. Reference a specific episode or a past guest to prove you've done your homework. And don't limit yourself to email. LinkedIn is one of the most effective platforms for securing podcast invitations. Sending a thoughtful, personalized LinkedIn message—paired with a strong profile that showcases your expertise—positions you as a credible guest. When a host sees you consistently sharing relevant insights on LinkedIn, your ask feels natural instead of opportunistic. When you offer to help them provide a great episode, you position yourself as a partner. You're not begging for airtime. You're offering a valuable conversation. This approach immediately sets you apart and begins the relationship-building process that is essential to finding a qualified sales lead. Step 3: Mastering the Conversation The interview itself is not a sales call. Your goal is to be a helpful,

Daily Boost Podcast Show Notes Stop Chasing Symptoms - Fix the Real Problem August 8, 2025 | Episode 5155 Host: Scott Smith Episode Description Ever feel completely stuck trying to figure something out? You're spinning your wheels, and nobody seems to get what you're going through. Well, guess what? You're not alone – everyone on the planet feels exactly like you do sometimes. Scott dives into why we get distracted by a thousand little problems instead of tackling the big one that's really holding us back. He'll show you how to "put a point on it" and stop wasting energy on symptoms when you should be fixing the root cause. Featured Story Scott shares a powerful story about a company wanting to hit a billion dollars in revenue. They think they have five years to get there, but the real pressure? They need it done in three years, maybe even one. Picture the C-suite after hours, whiskey flowing, everyone scrambling to fix a thousand symptoms while the real problem sits right there staring them in the face. The lesson hits hard: stop treating symptoms and identify what's actually blocking your path. Important Points Most people can't pinpoint the actual problem getting in their way because they're busy fixing easy-to-tackle symptoms instead of the real issue. There are really only two things you need to clearly describe: the goal you're going after and the real problem standing in your way. Nine times out of ten, your real problem comes down to one of three things: money, relationships, or your health. Memorable Quotes "You're not alone. Every single person feels like you." "There's really only one problem in journalism. We would call it burying the lead." "I'll tell you nine times out of 10, it's money. And if it's not money, it's relationships. And if it's not that it's your health." Scott's Three-Step Approach Clearly describe the goal you're going after – if you can't clearly say what it is, you're never going to get it. Clearly describe the real problem getting in your way, not all the little symptoms buzzing around below the surface. Ask yourself honestly: is your real problem money, relationships, or health – because it's usually one of those three things. Connect With Me Search for The Daily Boost on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. How to Solve the Real Problem Killing Your Profit with Doug C. Brown   Why Sales ≠ Profit—And the Blind Spots That Bleed Cash   The Profit Gap: Why More Sales Might Be Making You Broke You're pushing for more revenue. Your team is grinding. But your bank balance isn't growing. In fact, you're more stressed, your margins are tighter, and your team is overwhelmed.   Why? Because most businesses chase symptoms—like “bad sales teams” or “slow growth”—instead of finding and fixing the true root cause.   Doug C. Brown, a $900M revenue growth expert, exposes the hidden math, decision blind spots, and operational leaks that silently kill profit… even in high-revenue companies.   If you're running faster but falling further behind, this episode is your wake-up call.   In This Episode You'll Learn: Why your biggest profit leaks never show up on your P&L. How a simple math-based model predicts revenue and risk. The deadly myth of “more sales = more profit” (and what to do instead). Why follow-up failures cost you more than bad leads. How to stop being held hostage by top salespeople.   Key Takeaways (Costly Mistakes & Blind Spots): You're solving symptoms, not root causes.. Most owners blame sales teams, not systems. Doug shows how tracking lagging indicators masks the real issues. Revenue can bankrupt you. One client scaled from $5.7M to $8.2M in three weeks—and imploded because ops couldn't handle the growth. You're losing 6–7 figures in slow follow-up. Many companies take 28+ days to follow up on leads. Doug's framework closes this loop—and closes more deals. Poor cash flow ≠ pricing problem—it's a terms problem. A utility pole company nearly collapsed waiting 180 days for payments. Doug explains how to fix your pay-cycle math. You don't need more clients—you need better ones. 90% of profit often comes from 10% of clients. But you're spending your energy on the wrong 90%. Doug teaches how to flip that math.   About Doug C. Brown: Doug C. Brown is CEO of CEO Sales Strategies and a globally recognized sales revenue and profit growth expert. He's built 35+ businesses and driven over $900 million in sales—helping companies like Intuit, Procter & Gamble, and Tony Robbins' organizations scale smarter.   Former President of Sales for Tony Robbins & Chet Holmes, Doug is known for his math-based, cause-first approach to revenue growth. His latest venture, Vibitno, is revolutionizing follow-up automation to fix one of the biggest leaks in sales: speed to response.   Links: Website (CEO Sales Strategies): https://ceosalesstrategies.com/ Vibitno: https://vibitno.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Dougcbrown123/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/dougbrown123/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dougcbrown_/ Follow-Up Masterclass: http://ceosalesstrategies.com/stoptheleak   Ready to Stop the Bleed? If you're tired of “working harder” and want to make more by fixing less, it's time to stop solving symptoms and start fixing root causes.
