    Ivy Insights

The Haystacks & Hell podcast is an incredibly insightful and relatable show that delves into the experiences of individuals who have grown up in the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) church and subsequently left. As a fourth generation Adventist myself, I found this podcast to be a breath of fresh air and a source of comfort as I navigated my own journey questioning my faith within the SDA community. Listening to all 20 episodes, along with the three extras, within 48 hours speaks volumes about the quality and captivating nature of this podcast.

One of the best aspects of The Haystacks & Hell is its ability to address important topics that many former Adventists can deeply relate to. The guests on the show share their personal stories, providing listeners with a sense of solidarity and understanding. It is often difficult to find others going through a similar deconstruction process within the Adventist community, so hearing these narratives offers a much-needed sense of connection and support. This podcast breaks down barriers by openly discussing subjects that are often ignored or dismissed within Adventist spaces.

While The Haystacks & Hell has been incredibly informative and validating for those who have left the SDA church, it does lack diverse perspectives at times. The majority of guests on the show seem to have had negative experiences with Adventism, which may not fully represent the range of experiences former members may have had. It would be beneficial to include interviews with individuals who have managed to maintain positive connections with their faith post-deconstruction or explore different paths taken after leaving.

In conclusion, The Haystacks & Hell podcast is an invaluable resource for anyone who grew up in the Seventh-day Adventist church and has questioned or left their faith. It provides a platform for sharing stories that are often overlooked or silenced in traditional Adventist spaces, making listeners feel less alone in their journeys. While there may be room for improvement in terms of diversity in guest perspectives, this podcast has undoubtedly created a space for important conversations and serves as a reminder that there is a vast community of individuals navigating the complexities of leaving the Adventist church. I eagerly await future episodes and the continued growth of this podcast.

She was discouraged by her parents, who said the legal profession isn't suitable for a Christian woman. I mentioned the show because it's based on a true story of a serial r*pist who got away with his crimes in part by committing them in different cities or counties, and the police departments didn't share any information with each other. The show centers on a woman who was the most recent victim and spoke to the police, but the two male detectives who questioned her didn't believe her and ultimately gaslit her into recanting her testimony. It wasn't until a female detective began noticing a pattern and believed the victim that they finally were able to put the pieces together and catch the r*pist. The show is relevant because it illustrates how discouraging women from entering certain professions has put us at a disadvantage, and why listening to victims is incredibly important.Full Transcripts, resources and more: hell.bio/S2E1— Have a story to share?
