033 On Medical Freedom

What does medical freedom mean to you? Have you ever thought about it before? Probably not because it's always been around and available, like walking your dog. You may have never realized it IS a thing and it IS free... at least for now. On today's episode I do a little dive into medical freedom, what it is and what it isn't, and why I feel it's necessary. You want chemotherapy to be a part of your cancer treatment? Fine, you should have the freedom to choose. You don't want to fill a prescription? Fine, the choice is yours. Your doctor doesn't feel right about performing a certain procedure or it goes against his/her beliefs? That should also be ok. We should always have the right to choose what is done and what is not done with our bodies. Makes sense, right? Doesn't matter. It doesn't matter if it makes sense or not because there may come a day when you no longer have the right to choose. To lessen your toxic load choose a environmentally friendly and safe laundry detergent and household cleaner. I use Branch Basics and if you click below you can get $10 off your order. http://branchbasics.refr.cc/jillianmckenzie To join my membership group go here! On today's episode I explain our hormone cycle (just us women, men don't have one). What's happening and the hormones involved. Then I tell you what I've learned that I wish (wish!!) I knew as a young 20 year old, when I first started taking oral contraceptives. Like most us, I had many friends in high school who started birth control either to help control acne, an irregular period, or one friend who was an athlete and wanted to get on birth control so she wouldn't have the inconvenience of having to "deal with" her period, which I totally understand. No one like dealing with a period. But what side effects have doctors and scientists, the creators of birth control, known for years that they haven't told us about? Also, our health gets better when we have less toxins coming in. I use Branch Basics laundry detergent for this very reason. It's hypoallergenic, perfectly safe, and nontoxic. Get yourself some and save 10% here: Branch Basics Also, to help rid my and my kid's bodies of heavy metals, I use Coseva TRS. It's THE safest heavy metal detox spray. On today's episode I talk about my family's recent trip to Hocking Hills, OH and the head injury I got there. I also share much of what I did to heal it, starting with allowing myself to feel the emotion of pain and let it out. Did you know that an emotion only takes 90 seconds to move through us? But if we suppress it we are setting ourselves up for physical pain later. I also talk about homeschooling and home birth. How are the two related? I feel like as mothers we've been told we're incapable of baring and schooling our own children and I share why. Why do we turn to the foods we eat that we know don't serve us in any way, but only leave us feeling more heavy, gross, bloating, and disappointed?  Even if you read every diet book published, the excess weight you carry would never go away for good because of the excess weight you carry- in your mind. Are we focusing on not getting sick? Or are we focusing on being healthy? You might think that those are the same things but their actually not. In the last year I have taken a deep dive into Ayurvedic wisdom and practices and I have loved what I've been learning. What we eat matters, as well as when we eat. I used to describe myself as and Intermittent Faster, like how someone might describe their habits of eating as paleo or keto. I'm still fasting, for up to 14 hours between dinner and breakfast. But I'm loving what I'm seeing as I've incorporated a breakfast back into my diet and focusing on eating 7-9 cups of fruits and vegetables everyday. You might think that eating that many cups of fruit and vegetables is too hard, but I break it down for you, it's simpler than you realize. And where there's a will, there's a way. When you're focused on being healthy you're going to figure out a way to make that happen. I love the opportunity it gives me to sit still, and I learned that rather than silencing my thoughts I could allow them to pass me by without giving them an emotional response, but instead allowing them to be just what they are, thoughts. On today's episode I tell you what meditation has done for me and I walk along with you during a guided breathing meditation. Joan MacDonald, is a 73 years old. 3 years ago she was 5'3'', 198lbs, and a 39" waist. She was on medication for high blood pressure and acid reflux, she had terrible edema in her ankles, her arthritis was extremely painful, and she had difficulty walking up and down stairs. She was tired, emotional, and she was in desperate need of a change. Does any of this sound familiar to you? Her daughter Michelle came to her on the verge of tears. She said that Joan had to make a choice. She said if she continued on the path she was on she would end up even worse off, and probably on even more medication. She offered Joan the opportunity to work with her that winter. She would be participating in an online group with other women who were all working to change habits and take the best possible care of themselves.   So with the support and guidance of Michelle and the team of women allowed Joan to make a massive 180.  She learned how to use an i-phone for the first time in her life.  She renewed her gym membership, bought a food scale, a measurement tape, and got to work.  Her motto was, "I don't mind if my changes are slow. I am going to go at my own pace and this time the changes are going to last the rest of my life.'' and she really meant it.  Part of the program she was doing required that each of them prepare a collage comparing their starting point to where we currently were. She thinks it is human nature especially on a long journey to wonder if we are on the right track or not. But as the months rolled by Joan could see that we were all changing. The weight  and the inches were coming off. Her confidence in the gym was growing. We were all cheering each other on.  She's now three years into her journey and she can honestly say that she is a different woman than she was when she started out. She know's what macros are, she can create balanced meals, she knows how to move around with confidence in the gym and she understands the importance of lifting heavy weight.  She just love connecting with other women and men who are also choosing to live a healthier lifestyle.  Joan found that this new way of living has allowed her to meet and help encourage many others to do the same. If you're looking to make a change with Joan she's on Instagram @trainwithjoan and her daughter and coach is @yourhealthyhedonista  Also, make sure to grab Joan and Michelle's new ebook. It will have recipes, meals, tips and tricks, etc. You can find that ebook through Joan's IG page when it comes out!
