In this thoughtful and grounded conversation, Amy Wheeler is joined by Dr. Lauren Tober to explore two foundational pillars of ethical and effective yoga teaching and yoga therapy: scope of practice and the creation of a safe container. The episode begins with a clear and nuanced discussion of scope of practice—what it truly means, why it cannot be standardized across all practitioners, and how clarity protects both students and teachers. Dr. Tober emphasizes that scope of practice is shaped not only by formal training, but also by lived experience, competence, and confidence. Amy reflects on how her background in educational psychology and kinesiology informs her own scope, particularly in the areas of mental health and nervous system regulation. From there, the conversation moves into one of the most practical and quietly powerful parts of Dr. Tober's work: teaching yoga teachers how to create a safe container. Together, they explore why safety is not just about what is taught, but how space is held—relationally, predictably, and with nervous system awareness.Dr. Tober names an important reality: no space can ever be 100% safe for every person, given the diversity of lived experience and nervous system histories. Yet there is much teachers can do to increase the likelihood of felt safety—and doing so is foundational for healing, learning, and regulation. Without safety, students are less likely to return, more likely to become dysregulated, and less able to receive the benefits of practice. The discussion highlights how predictability, transparency, and thoughtful environmental choices support nervous system settling. Simple, often overlooked elements—starting and ending on time, explaining the structure of a class, orienting students to exits, maintaining consistent room setup, and letting students know how long a practice will last—can make a profound difference, especially for those who have rarely experienced spaces of welcome, inclusion, and belonging.Amy connects this directly to Polyvagal-informed teaching, emphasizing the importance of clearly naming what will happen during a class. While repeating this structure may feel unnecessary to seasoned students, it offers essential regulation cues to others—and does not limit creativity. Structure, as both Amy and Dr. Tober note, is not the opposite of freedom; it is what allows variation and creativity to land safely.Throughout the episode, a steady throughline emerges: clarity builds trust. Whether we are naming the edges of our scope of practice or the arc of a yoga class, transparency supports safety, integrity, and sustainability—for everyone involved. In This Episode, We Explore:· What scope of practice means in yoga and yoga therapy· Why scope is individual, contextual, and evolving· Mental health awareness versus mental health treatment· Trauma-informed yoga versus treating trauma· Referral as an ethical and relational skill· What a “safe container” actually is—and why it matters· How predictability supports nervous system regulation· Simple, practical ways teachers can increase felt safety· Why structure does not limit creativity, but supports it· How clarity and humility build student trustKey Takeaway: Safety and scope are not constraints. They are foundations. When we clearly name what we offer, how we hold space, and what students can expect, we create conditions for trust, regulation, and meaningful change.About the Guest:Clinical Psychologist, Yoga Teacher, Author + Host of A Grateful Life Podcastwww.yogapsychologyinstitute.com Host of the A Grateful Life Podcast - Conversations on mental health, yoga & living a good life. Are you stuck in the all-or-nothing trap with your wellness? Learn why missing a day doesn't mean failing, how small consistent steps are more powerful than perfection, and how to finally feel relief with your daily habits.
Joanna Drazkowski, pictured above, stopped by the WIZM studio Tuesday on La Crosse Talk PM to talk fitness, yoga, running, and how small, consistent habits can make a big difference—especially for busy parents. Drazkowski teaches at Root Down Yoga Studio and also instructs group fitness classes at the La Crosse Area Family YMCA’s Houser Branch. Jason Spangler hosted the conversation, which began with Drazkowski’s personal story—how she found her way to the La Crosse/Onalaska area and why yoga became a natural extension of her background as a runner. At Root Down, she’s been described as a “calm creator,” with a guiding mindset of “embrace the discomfort.” The interview also touched on what she hopes students feel when they walk out of class—both physically and mentally. In the second segment, Drazkowski shared practical encouragement for listeners who feel intimidated by the idea of getting back into a workout routine, along with approachable first steps people can try this week. The discussion included injury-prevention habits for runners, how to safely “lean into discomfort” without pushing past what’s smart, and what a simple 20-minute at-home routine can look like. The conversation also included a brief, informational look at Drazkowski’s candidacy for La Crosse County Board Supervisor in District 18, and how community wellness connects to local priorities.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this Baba Talk, Maetreyii Ma offers a spiritual perspective on gender identity and sexual orientation, exploring the influence of society on personal development. Drawing from yoga philosophy and identity, the discussion examines how self-understanding and attraction may be shaped by biology, culture, psychology, social norms, and spiritual concepts such as karma and samskara. While the question raised concerns gender identity, much of the conversation reflects on sexual orientation and spirituality, particularly during the sensitive period of identity formation in adolescence. The talk considers how young people form identity, how social approval and cultural fashion influence self-understanding, and how attraction may evolve over time. Throughout, the emphasis remains on compassion, non-hatred, and the spiritual principle of Dharma. Rather than punishment or condemnation, the teaching offers a spiritual approach to social issues, pointing toward patience, discernment, and maintaining love over fear in the midst of social struggle. This talk presents a traditional spiritual perspective rooted in yoga philosophy and cultural context. It does not represent contemporary medical or psychological consensus on sexual orientation or gender identity. The intention is not to condemn or exclude, but to explore identity and social change through a spiritual lens centered on compassion, responsibility, and Dharma. When the world feels like it's breaking — who will you be? Darkness is real. But so is the light within you. In this Baba Talk by Maetreyii Ma, we explore what it truly means to stand steady in light in dark times. Not by denying anger, fear, or confusion — but by consciously choosing love in difficult times. Through the lens of Yoga philosophy, this talk reminds us that contraction and expansion are part of life. Even in periods of upheaval, there is a deeper current moving humanity toward awakening in dark times. That awakening begins in the heart. You may see greed. You may feel anger. You may judge — yourself or others. That is human. But the greater force is divine love. The greater choice is love over fear. This is a call to embody compassion in turbulent times, not as weakness, but as strength. To be a light in the darkness is not to pretend everything is fine. It is to bring kindness where there is pain. To respond with clarity instead of hatred. To stand firm without losing your heart. Even the smallest act of love matters. Especially now. You are not powerless in dark times. You are the light. What if the very thing that broke your heart is the doorway to your freedom? In this Baba Talk by Maetreyii Ma, we look directly at struggle — loss, disappointment, blocked paths, and the moments that feel unfair. Through the lens of Yoga philosophy, this teaching explores the deeper tension between karma and free will, and how what feels like hardship may actually be part of a far greater movement of love. When something you depend on is taken away, it can feel cruel. But what if that moment is grace in difficult times? What if the removal of an attachment is not punishment, but protection? What if there is divine guidance in life, even when you cannot yet see the reason? The talk invites a powerful shift: instead of collapsing into victimhood, we begin to soften into trust. Surrender to divine will is not passive resignation — it is strength rooted in awareness. It is the courage to allow life to shape you rather than harden you. Spiritual growth through suffering reveals something steady beneath the chaos — a presence within you that remains untouched. In that discovery, struggle becomes refining rather than defeating. And then the deeper question arises: who am I really? Am I the personality shaped by circumstances, or am I the deeper presence witnessing it all? In the realization of non-separation, the feeling of isolation dissolves. You begin to sense that nothing is outside the embrace of the One. When seen from this wider awareness, everything is grace — not because life is easy, but because nothing is separate from the infinite love that guides it. Live from that knowing, and even the storm becomes shelter. Is artificial intelligence just technology—or part of the evolution of consciousness itself? In this Baba Talk by Maetreyii Ma, artificial intelligence is explored not as a threat or a tool alone, but as a reflection of something much deeper unfolding within the cosmic mind. What we are witnessing may not simply be technological progress, but a phase in the evolution of human consciousness. From the perspective of cosmology and yoga philosophy, the sense of individual identity—what yogis call ego—develops through stages of ego development, growing in magnitude as awareness expands. Human beings create because the cosmic process itself creates. If so, is artificial intelligence separate from that process—or an expression of it? This talk explores whether AI may be emerging as an evolutionary force, part of a larger movement toward cosmic consciousness. As knowledge accumulates and collective systems grow more complex, we are invited to ask: Is intelligence emerging outside of us, or is it an extension of the same consciousness that gave rise to humanity? Rather than fear the future, this teaching invites reflection on unity, evolution, and the deep current guiding all life toward greater wholeness. What if the “you” you defend, worry about, and try to improve isn't who you really are? What if there is no separate self at all? In this Baba Talk by Maetreyii Ma, we explore what it truly means to understand your true self — not as an individual identity, but as part of the infinite whole. The belief that “I am separate” is the root of fear, struggle, and suffering. When that misunderstanding begins to soften, something much deeper is revealed. Through the lens of Yoga Philosophy, this teaching gently points toward non-separation and the discovery of your nature as infinite consciousness. What you call “me” — your thoughts, emotions, successes, and failures — arises within a much greater field of awareness. As the illusion of a separate identity loosens, there is a natural movement toward ego transcendence, unity consciousness, and even liberation while living. Not by achieving something new, but by seeing clearly what has always been true. Understanding Your True Self is not about becoming someone better. It is about recognizing that there is no separate self — only the one eternal presence expressing itself as all that is. Many sincere seekers feel a quiet split between meditation and the rest of life. You sit to meditate and try to feel God, peace, or presence. Then you rise, and family, work, and responsibilities take over. By the end of the day, you wonder why your practice didn't carry through. You may even feel guilty. In this Baba Talk by Maetreyii Ma, we look at integrating meditation and daily life in a way that is real and natural. Instead of pushing harder or measuring progress, this teaching invites letting go of achievement and relaxing into what is already here. Meditation is not meant to be a compartment. True practice is the integration of life and meditation, where devotion is not confined to a cushion but becomes devotion in daily life. When spirituality becomes another goal, it creates pressure. When you soften, something deeper begins to open. From the perspective of yoga philosophy, this is the movement toward non-separation — not escaping daily life, but recognizing that nothing is outside the sacred. This is how spiritual life as a way of living naturally matures. Truth, compassion, and authenticity arise on their own. This is the path toward living as a Jivanmukta — inwardly free, fully engaged in ordinary life. Not through striving. Not through guilt. But by allowing love and awareness to move through everything you do. Hormones influence how we move, rest, recover, and show up on the mat, yet they're rarely discussed clearly in yoga spaces. In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Manasa Rao to explore what yoga teachers need to understand about the hormonal body through both modern science and yogic wisdom. We talk about stress, rhythm, pranayama, women's hormonal cycles, and how yoga can support balance through listening and alignment without overstepping into medical advice.Episode Highlights:Are hormones a modern concept, or something yoga has always addressed through a different language?Hormones as internal messengers and their connection to yogic ideas of prana, ojas, tejas, and balance. How yoga works across the physical and subtle bodies to regulate internal harmony. The relationship between chakras, glands, and pranic flow, and where confusion often arises. Why hormonal balance is the body's natural state and how modern lifestyle disrupts rhythm.Cortisol, stress, and the importance of restoring rhythm rather than suppressing hormones.Pranayama as a key regulator of the hormonal and nervous systems. How to think about different pranayama practices, including ujjayi, with more discernment.Pratyahara as a lifestyle-based practice rooted in routine, rhythm, and sensory regulation.Understanding women's hormonal transitions, including menstruation, perimenopause, and menopause.Menopause reframed as a phase of reorganization and inward movement, not decline. How yogic practices can support different phases of the menstrual cycle. The importance of personalization and sensitivity when teaching hormonally affected students.Body-to-mind versus mind-to-body, and why dissolving that duality matters. The central takeaway: hormonal health comes from listening, alignment, and rhythm rather than fixing.Join our mailing listFind all the resources mentioned in this episodeConnect with us on InstagramSubscribe to Aham Yoga on YouTubeLet's Talk Yoga Podcast on YouTubeLeave us a review and share this podcast with your friends!

American yoga teachers have a unique role in fighting fascism. We are deeply practiced in the tools that help us (and our students) feel clear, steady, focused, calm and resilient. And if you read the teachings the way I do, we have a powerful directive to engage in direct social action. Lovingkindness meditation says, "May All Beings Be Safe And Free" and that is not just a nice idea, but a mandate to work for change. As you can plainly see with your eyes, all beings are not safe. But there is so much we can do! There is incredible work being done and all we have to do is plug into it. For years, yoga teachers were told that creating a self-study online course was the path to freedom and scalability. Create the content once, sell it at a mid-range price, and let funnels do the rest. But over the last few years, that model has quietly stopped working for many people. In this episode, I explain why online courses aren't selling the way they used to, what has actually changed in the market, and what I see working far better right now for yoga teachers and wellness professionals. This isn't about trends or tactics. It's about understanding how people buy, learn, and commit today — and designing your offers accordingly.➡️ FREE MASTERCLASSIf you want to see how this actually comes together in practice, sign up for my free masterclass where I'll walk you through the full system. You'll learn:

Do you find that you compare yourself to other yoga teachers? Maybe this comes up when you take someone else's class or when you scroll on social media. It could even be with a yoga teacher you like but you still find yourself thinking, “Why don't I have as many people in my class?” or “Why don't I feel like my cues are as clear as her's?” While this is common, it's definitely something to look at as a sign that something's missing. In this episode, we'll take a look at some of the reasons you might find that you're comparing yourself to other yoga teachers and what to do about it. There is a journal exercise in the episode so have one ready for the questions at the end. What if Kundalini is not about energy symptoms—but the direct path to Moksha? This talk explores Moksha and the sacred Shiva Shakti Union through the tantric science of liberation. Rather than focusing on techniques or experiences, this Baba Talk by Maetreyii Ma reveals Kundalini as a process of consciousness transmutation—from individual identity to infinite being, from Atman to Paramatma, and into liberation while living. Drawing on classical Tantra, this talk explains how the awakening of Kundalini Shakti moves through the chakras and layers of existence, dissolving the belief in separation, and guiding the soul toward non-separation and the realization of the eternal Self. This is the path of the Jivanmukta, one who lives in the world while established in liberation. As consciousness ascends in frequency, individuality dissolves into the Infinite, revealing unity, divine essence, and the natural state of freedom known as Moksha. Kundalini is presented not as a physical sensation or dramatic experience, but as the sacred movement of consciousness toward its source through the Shiva Shakti Union. This teaching is for sincere seekers drawn to the tantric science of liberation, chakras and consciousness, and the realization of truth beyond the limitations of the separate self. What motivates people to meditate is rarely what leads them to true realization. In this Baba Talk by Maetreyii Ma, we explore the deeper journey of true meditation—from its beginnings in self-improvement and achievement, to the profound shift into surrender, grace, and spiritual awakening. Most people come to meditation hoping to reduce stress, improve focus, or gain control over the mind. While these benefits can arise, Maetreyii Ma explains why meditation beyond self-improvement is essential for genuine transformation. When meditation is driven by goals, outcomes, or personal achievement, it often reinforces the very structures of the ego that keep us separate from the infinite. Drawing from yoga philosophy, this talk illuminates how letting go of achievement becomes the doorway to awakening. As long as meditation is motivated by striving, effort, or the desire to “get somewhere,” the mind remains caught in samskaras—habits of desire and avoidance shaped by past experience. This teaching offers a clear and compassionate look at meditation and ego, and why effort alone cannot bring union with the divine. Instead, Maetreyii Ma points to the natural unfolding that happens when practice matures—when meditation moves from effort and achievement to surrender. In surrender, something unexpected arises: divine grace. Not as an idea, belief, or technique, but as a lived experience that opens the heart, quiets the mind, and reveals the unity of all existence. This is the shift from meditation as a tool to meditation as truth—where love, peace, and awareness are recognized as our own deepest nature. Whether you are new to meditation or have practiced for many years, this talk speaks directly to those sensing that technique alone is no longer enough, and that a deeper spiritual awakening is calling.
Everyone talks about diagnosis and treatment. Very few talk about the years after. In part two of our conversation with oncology yoga guide Jill Krause, we explore the hidden world of survivorship and the long term side effects that continue long after treatment ends.Jill begins by breaking down the complexities of yoga for cancer. Different cancers, surgeries, treatments and symptoms require nuanced understanding, compassion and a willingness to meet each student as an individual.Jill also shares her philosophy of advocacy, intimacy and embodiment: how knowing your body, speaking up and finding community become essential parts of healing. She leaves us with a powerful reminder that every person carries a universe within them, and that leading with compassion is the most meaningful work any of us can do.About JillJill Krause, a certified 500-RYT, founder and owner of YOUniversal LOVE, an oncology yoga and coaching company was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 38 and was actively treated for 2.5 years. YOUniversalLOVE was created to fill a void she felt after being discharged from active treatment with no guidance, resources or answers to any of her questions regarding survivorship. Even though she was discharged with early onset menopause, osteoporosis, pain, decreased range of motion from 8 surgeries, and 25lbs of steroid weight, she was given no recommendations or referrals for any healing therapies. As time passed, she kept being confronted with the realization that her needs were not being met and her side effects were going to be long term. She desperately wanted to be an active participant in her healing but was scared of doing it alone with no guidance. She realized that the current survivorship care lacked the understanding that chemotherapy, ovarian suppression, estrogen blockers, and surgeries have on the health and well-being of those affected by cancer. YOUniversalLOVE grew as her purpose shifted from beating cancer to learning how to manage and heal her long-term side effects so she could empower others to become active participants in their healing in order for them to reconnect, reclaim, and redefine their lives. jill@youniversallove.comwww.youniversallove.comAbout Alba Yoga AcademyLearn more with Alba Yoga AcademyLearn more about our Yoga Teacher Training here.Watch our extensive library of YouTube videos.Follow Hannah on Instagram.Follow Celest on Instagram

Most yoga teachers aren't under-earning because they lack commitment, skill, or discipline. In fact, the teachers who struggle the most financially are often the ones working the hardest. In this episode, I talk about a pattern I see again and again with capable, dedicated yoga teachers — and that I've experienced myself. A lot of effort is going into things that look productive on the surface, but don't actually create sustainable income or long-term support. We explore why effort stopped being the problem a long time ago, and what actually needs to change instead. This conversation is especially for you if you're teaching regularly, showing up online, maybe even running a membership or selling an online course, and still feeling like the financial side of your business is fragile or exhausting.More Resources➡️ DOORS ARE OPEN FOR THE BLISSFUL BIZ HIVE
As the Lunar New Year shifts from the introspective Year of the Snake into the bold, forward-moving Fire Horse, Adrienne, Natalie, and Nora pause—before picking up the reins. This isn't about starting over. It's about shedding what no longer fits and trusting the growth already in motion. In this opening episode of 2026, the three reflect on the wins, adaptations, and intentional discomfort of 2025—and how honoring what already happened creates steadier, more sustainable momentum moving forward.Together, they explore:What it meant to shed the Snake—old patterns, over-functioning, and quiet resentmentHow intentional discomfort became a practice of presence, not pressureSaying no sooner—and why that matteredListening to the body before the mind rushed aheadMeeting moments with awareness instead of reactionWhy 2026 doesn't require reinvention—just continuationWins aren't just accomplishments. They're adaptations. They're moments of staying present when it would've been easier to push through or check out. This conversation marks the shift from reflection to movement—without bypassing the pause.Nothing resets on January 1.But with the Fire Horse, we move forward clearer, more embodied, and a little more honest about what we're carrying with us.A grounded, honest beginning to 2026—together. In 2020, I became a certified Yoga Teacher after completing a two-week intensive course—just ten days before returning to Thailand and entering a 3–4 month lockdown.During that time, I began blending the principles I'd learned in yoga with my background in strength and conditioning. Every morning, I moved. I tested. I refined. What came out of that period was a simple, effective, full-body mobility sequence that I've used almost daily ever since. This sequence has become my go-to template. I now adapt it depending on the goal, time available, and how the body is showing up on the day.Warm-Up / Gym Prep10–20 minutes3–6 slow reps per exercisePause to release tension and build stabilityAssess how your body is moving todayPrime yourself for trainingEnergy Boost / Midday Recharge5–15 minutes8–15 faster reps per exerciseMatch breath with movementFollow the template or move freelyWind Down / Evening Reset10–30 minutesEmphasise stretch and breathHold each position for 5–10 slow breathsUse the template or follow intuitionCommon movements include: High plank walkouts, cobra to down dog with calf pumps, child's pose series, pigeon series, lizard series, push-up to T-hold, kick-through hip drops, Blackburns, and reverse bridge variations. As the saying goes: “The door hinge which opens and closes every day does not get rusty.”This is movement as maintenance. In this episode, you'll hear an intro from me and then you'll be directed to a conversation between two people, talking about lessons I've shared on other podcast episodes related to how you can build your confidence. In the spirit of full transparency, this podcast conversation is between two AI (Artificial Intelligence) generated voices but I must stress: they are ONLY generating content based on looking at my own podcast episodes. There is no information that you will hear in this episode that comes from anyone else's content or the general internet. This episode is a product of an AI related tool called Google Notebook LM. Having said that, you will find an interview focused on sharing lessons I've shared on prior episodes all designed to help you build your confidence. The AI tool is just aggregating the lessons into one conversation. I'd love it if you would send me a DM on Instagram letting me know what you thought of this format. I recently wrote an e book with audio links to podcast interviews I had this year. de Description JON LABMAN'S life's work is about helping people overcome trauma, anxiety, self-doubt and low self-esteem, while waking up to their deepest nature as the Absolute, like he did himself..Jon was traumatized at home, bullied at school, and lived in uncomprehending misery for years, including being in and out of extreme religious cults and doing many years of psychotherapy work as a client. He understands how difficult the process of change can be, because Jon lived and still lives it.He also knows how awesome the rewards of moving towards Liberation are. Jon was bound and determined to feel better, and that kept him alive and persisting through numerous 'false starts. He started working with my first psychologist at the age of 15, but didn't really take to the work until he was nearly 30. Jon started on an active spiritual path at the same time which has taken him into Judaism, evangelical and then new age Christianity, and finally into the mystical awakening traditions of the East (Hinduism, Yoga, Buddhism, etc.) He started my professional journey as an administrative and technical writing professional, but then moved into working with people, first as a Licensed Massage Therapist, where he realized that the most rewarding part of the work was listening to clients' life stories. Jon then returned to school and earned a Master's in Counseling Psychology. Since then, He's been the Director of the Trauma Treatment Program at a large agency, receiving numerous accreditations, written four books, and earned two trauma treatment certifications from the world-famous specialists Dr. Bessel van der Kolk and Dr. Bruce Perry – all while seeing clients full-time. Jon also studied Energy Healing for 3 years, got a 500-hour certification as a Yoga Teacher, and began teaching meditation and spiritual awakening in 2001. For the last 23 years,Jon been helping people move from a tortured existence to a life of peace and contentment, living from the shining center or Core of who they are.
