Mike and Dave are nerds, but not real big ones. They wanted indulge their nerdiness, so they grabbed their friends Zack, Glen, Brandon, and Brandie, and got into some nerd stuff. They'll be playing table top RPGs (like DnD), card games (like Magic: The Gathering), PC and Console games, talking mov…
We know what we're up against. We have a plan, and we have the right equipment. We also have an attorney on retainer. Will Harvey Bugbear get us out of this, or are we gonna have to try and make this thing worse by fighting our way out?
Today there's gonna be a jailbreak, right here in this episode! The Desperado returns to tell the gang how screwed they are, but also informs them that there might be someone who could help. What's a group of mostly naked idiots to do?
We're back in these bloodstained streets! Our party tries to get the bacon back to the dogfather (not Snoop, sorry), but then things get dark... and assault-y. We have to hope The Machine can help get us out of this pickle. We also learn something big about our littlest party member's member
Is humanity destined to destroy itself, and all it encounters? Are we doomed to repeat the worst moments in our history ad nauseam until the universe comes to an end? Games Workshop seems to think so, hence Warhammer 40K! Brandon attempts to learn us about the sprawling tabletop game, the lore, and some quirks. We also search some cursed images, so you don't have to!
Welcome to a special episode of the podcast! On this episode Mike, AJ, and Brandon talk about the most important engine developed in the late 20th century: the game engine. The reveal how something designed to make games easier to make as grown into something that impacts so many aspects of our lives. They also discuss this weekend's Extra Life Game Day! Yes, we're going for another 24 hours straight to change kids health. We talk about our schedule, but more importantly how YOU can get involved! Please go here and donate what you can to our team's campaign: https://www.extra-life.org/team/56109 Follow along on our YouTube, Facebook, and Twitch pages, and check out Kiet's channel as well. We'll see you on Thursday for a little tune up stream, and on Saturday for the big show!
Sometimes doing the right thing looks a lot like doing the wrong thing, and our intrepid party of spell casters (and Orville) find that out the hard way. They decide to help the priest save his child, and... listen, we're heroes damnit!
Our band of spellcasters, and solo rouge, get a main quest! And they immediately go looking for the source of loud sobbing, which is not part of the main quest. This might be a short spooky season adventure!
It's spooky season! And we're also down a Brandon, so let's get into some Curse of Strahd action! Everyone has rolled up some new characters for this very unfamiliar setting for the group. Does anyone else hear wolves? Oh no...
We have the bacon, all we gotta do is deliver it. A little trouble comes up, and we handle it with all the grace and decorum we can muster
The gang heads to the Adventurer's Guild, gets some sleep, and causes a ruckus at breakfast. Then they go on a quest for bacon
We enter Ms. Sara's office, and get to business! The gang makes their offer for the takeover, and they get countered with a challenge! Will they rise to the occasion? FIND OUT!
Mondays, amirite? Greg and Frank are joined by security guy Scott, and the new guy in sales Kenny in the latest delogated task from manager Michael: take over the company next door. Will this band of misfits gel? Can they make it into the neighboring building? Hell, can they even make it into their own building?
So what all goes into rolling up a new character for a Dungeons and Dragons campaign? We get into it, because Dave and AJ need some characters for our side campaign: fantasy Office Space! AJ and Mike have audio issues, but Glen and Brandon walk Dave through creating a whole new character, and at the end we meet a couple of new employees at MagicTek
Eeryone is in the same room! Sort of! Mike, Glen, Dave, and Ben get together in the new podcast room, while Brandie, Brandon, and AJ Headroom join in via the internet. Sorry about the audio, this was basically a test run that went three times as long as it was supposed to, BUT we have some good stuff in there, some plans for the future, and a new intro
Ever since we can remember, we wanted to be gangsters, and now we get to try our hand at it! All we gotta do is get a box. How hard can it be? Also, Common is hard sometimes
Our journey to Alexandria continues! We go amping, do some cooking, and are presented with new and exciting opportunities in the acquisitions business
After a quick shopping trip, the gang meets up with Lady Laura and begins their journey to Alexandria. Along the way Karll tries to get some more info about their cargo, before they're interrupted by a special guest
The party is reunited, hot off the heels of napalming The Butcher's camp. They turn in their quest, get paid... then try and figure out what to do. But then someone nails a new quest to the bounty board
Who would've thought that napalming his entire encampment would've enraged The Butcher? Thankfully it's just him, and a weird angry bard. What could go wrong?!
We find The Butcher's encampment, and we do something out of the norm for us: gather intelligence! While doing so, we do something that tracks with us: something potentially plan destroying
Hot off of shoving a villain in a door from which he hopefully will never escape, we're faced with picking a new quest. We could herd chickens, hunt squirrels, or attack an Orc encampment.
Scheduling is undefeated. But we make tyhe best of a bad situation by discussing all the different sizes and grades of Gundam Plastic models, aka Gunpla
Oh god, we're going through with this, aren't we? OK. We jig Eldon off the bottom, and try and lure the evil Nicodemus into our trap. Do we survive? Are we looking for a replacement bard? Does this actually work???
Welcome back to the only DnD podcast that is willing to hold its DM hostage! The gang reconvenes to run away from the Inquisitor, bond as a family, and maybe get one of them killed with a really crappy plan
What's 40 years old, shows the horrors of war, the glory of giant robots, and war crimes? MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM! Mike tries to explain the original timeline, the Universal Century, and gives you some entry points for Gundam. HINT: It's not all UC stuff
What started off as a discussion about scale R/C vehicles ends up with talks of luxury submarines, and the invasion of independent principalities. How did we get here? Why did we get here? Your guess is as good as mine...
Despite being a pillar of modern science fiction, most of the crew has no idea about anything about it! So Brandon and AJ try and teach Brandie, Dave, Glen, and Mike all about Star Trek... in 45 minutes! They definitely missed some stuff. There was no way they could get almost 60 years of history and lore in in 45 minutes, so let us know what they missed! It's the only way we'll learn. And let us know some of your favorite Star Trek shows, movies, books, and other media by reaching out on Instagram, Facebook, or TikTok. You can also send us an email: nerdingforbeginners@gmail.com
What's the difference between Cassette Futurism and Cyberpunk? They both look at the future, and explore how technology will affect our lives and society, but they're not the same. AJ breaks it down for us, and shares some things for us to check out. Let us know some of your pieces favorite Cassette Futurism by reaching out on Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok; or sending an email to nerdingforbeginners@gmail.com!
OK, so the plan is working out way better than anyone thought. But what is everyone else doing? Do we all die, because we split the party? And what is that big dude doing with that llama??
We're back in the land of... Where the hell are we? The gang, and our friend The Machine, need to rescue the Tabaxi from the Inquisitors. How are they going to do this? Perhaps they'll take a page from a book written a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away
We keep Cajun Justin around, and we discuss good actors who've never been in a bad role or movie. We lose the plot a bit, but we had a good time
TEST YOUR MIGHT!!! ALSO SPOILERS! We, well Brandie and her friend Justin, review the new Mortal Kombat movie, talk about the old films, and pick a fight with the only person who liked Mortal Kombat Annihilation
After making their daring escape (no thanks to Karll), the gang runs into an old friend at the Adventurer's Guild who tells them they messed up, and they now have to do something really dangerous. Also hiding in a basement happens
After their last *ahem* escapade, the gang faces a choice: turn the Tabaxi in, or turn him loose in exchange for more coin. Naturally, they make A choice, and things take a turn. A turn involving roof top chases, and terrible rolls...
(NSFW!) The gang picks up a quest! All they have to do is kidnap a Tabaxi who frequents a brothel. How hard can it be? Well, as it turns out, quite difficult. Turns out poor communication can hinder plans, but make for an entertaining time.
Remember how we had a little dude with a guitar, and a lizard lady with magic? Well, we kinda did... AND THEN THEY CAME BACK! Eldon (Dave) and Zillara (Brandie) come back, meet the party, and discover the wonders of animal based firearms
AND NOW OUR THRILLING CONCLUSION! In this episode: securing the bag, delightfully devilish deception, THAT'S NOT GONE WELL, IT'S OVER 9000, and glowing body art. Thanks to Ben Allred for joining us this month. Want to be a guest? Lets us know your intentions, and why we should let you join the party by reaching out on social media (@nerdingforbeginners) or dropping us an email: nerdingforbeginners@gmail.com
Welcome back! We get get right into it. In this episode: attempts at diplomacy, guard bears, full frontal nudity, and magic gone awry. All with our guest, Ben Allred as THE MACHINE
We're back to the action, and things get going immediately. We meet a giant fellow calling himself The Machine that is chasing a sheep. We then run into other people chasing the sheep. Do we screw this thing up? FIND OUT!
Welcome back! We're ALMOST back to action, but Glen was late so we took this opportunity to introduce you to this month's guest: Ben Allred! We give you his bonafides and all that. Then Glen shows up...
What do you do after you learn that some sort of extra planar hydra thing has been eating people out of reality? Go shopping naturally. First, we get Korinth a boom stick, then the gang gets some new armor. And Karll tries his best. Then it's off to the lollipop adventurer's guild!
After trying to rob the barman, the gang make their way into the bustling streets of... We're not entirely sure. After buying a map, and eating mystery meat, the gang finds Jacques and his place, which is a ramen house! Also Jacques is a Tabaxi, and his wife sees via some crazy galaxy eyes. There they learn what it is that stole the memories of their friends...
Karll and Revin have just rescued a family from a bunch of marauding necromancers, so they decide to head to a bar to celebrate. Wait... Weren't there four of them last time? And weren't there five at one point? The duo meet Korinth, lizard man rogue who likes to steal and bite. They also have a run in with their old friend The Desperado, who has some news: there were 5 before, but something took them from reality, and they gotta deal with it...
Welcome back! We're almost back to the play through, but before that Mike and Brandon remind you of who they are and how they got nerdy, and they introduce the FNG: AJ Glasmacher! We'll be back on Wednesday with the latest play through episode, but until then let us reintroduce ourselves!
Have a budget PC build from a decade ago that finally decided to die? Mike does! Have an old workstation PC that needs some hot rodding? Brandon does! Thankfully, we have Glen to help us figure out what we need to do so we can play games, stream, and edit things like podcasts and videos. Speaking of videos, all of our recordings do have a video component but I never do anything with them. Would you like to see the video version of them? Or just maybe some clips? Let me know: nerdingforbeginners@gmail.com
Welcome back to the podcast that might have a plan! Mike, Glen, and Brandon talk about the plan for the podcast going forward, Mike invites someone new to the party, and there's some discussion about stuff that's not DnD!
Yes, the rumors are true! We are coming back, but we've got a few ideas of how to make our triumphant comeback. Glen and myself share the ideas with you, and we want to hear what you think. Which version would you rather listen to? Let us know by reaching out on social media, or emailing us at nerdingforbeginners@gmail.com
The team has its hands full with Kevin and his other planar nightmares, but they know what they have to do: save Ben the intern, and hit up Happy Hour! But Kevin isn't going to make this easy. He's getting mocked by Craig, wounded by Frank and Diddy, and lawn darted by Greg. Is the gang triumphant? Or will they have to have a Snickerdoodletini in honor of a fallen comrade?
Welcome back to this adventure that falls outside of our job duties! Greg, Craig, and Frank find that Kevin is back and ready to sacrifice poor, sweet Ben! Well, he seems nice at least. Our intrepid heroes spring an attack on Kevin and the cultists, including throwing... lawn darts? Can they save Ben? Where did they get lawn darts? And a friendly reminder: words CAN hurt.
The server room is full of horrors! And not just poor cable management. Frank, Greg, and Craig continue their exploration/recovery mission. The gang also runs into the head of IT, who is making their way out the door, before they find another pile of corpses surrounded by ominous burn marks and fresh-ish drag marks...
We’re back to adventurin and misbehavin! Mike, Glen, Brandon, and Brandon’s friend Jordan grab their dice, blow the dust off their Player’s Handbooks, and hop into a Dungeons & Dragons one shot! What is an office like when its filled with warlocks, elves and half elves, and all of the other inhabitants of the DnD universe? Well, a lot like a regular office, complete with a dickhead manager who sends you off to do something that is definitely not your job. The trio gets sent to figure out what’s going on in Server Room D, what happened to everyone else who was sent down there before them, and also figure out if they can make happy hour
