The man who created Adolescence has a new idea for how dads can connect with their sons - it’s beautiful, but one of us hates it. Plus, Amelia dives into the kids party photo that’s divided Australia: can you really “bags” a park table? And finally, it’s Elf O’Clock. Monz realises she’s the last mum on earth without a tiny spy living in her house, and wonders aloud if there are some traditions that should just be left alone. Our recommendations:

Stassi's back with Taylor Strecker — in person this time! They're bundled up in Stassi's icebox studio, still recovering from their Unwell in Vegas weekend. Between flying private, performing alongside reality TV icons, and fangirling over the Nader sisters, the girls were treated like absolute queens (thanks, Alex Cooper) — and now they're officially ruined. They laugh about being total narcs, debate which version of “father” fits best, and relive the whirlwind weekend — from pre-show jitters and a weird onstage hug to staying up at Club Stassi until 4:30 a.m. Plus, Stassi's deep in her Life of a Showgirl era, convinced Taylor Swift's “Father Figure” was written about her. Episodio de emergencia: nos subimos al tren de The Life of a Show Girl.
Falls das doch jemand lesen sollte, schreibt mal in die Kommentare: Wenn ihr einen Snape Pop-Song hören wollt, kommentiert "The Life of a Show Snape" oder so. La mégastar américaine Taylor Swift a dévoilé The Life of a Showgirl.

In this week's conversation between Dr. James Emery White and co-host Alexis Drye, they discuss a recent article in the New York Times written by Claire Kane Miller titled, “What Happens When Most of the Adults in Boys' Lives Are Women.” Studies show that children struggle acutely from the lack of a father figure in their lives and, according to the US Census Bureau, nearly one in four children lives without a father in the home. Today's conversation explores the impact and significance of not only fathers, but also positive male role models in the lives of young boys in particular, and how the church can play a role as well. Episode Links There are two books that Dr. White mentioned in today's episode that would be helpful for fathers and men to read to understand the impact they can have on the lives of their boys, as well as other young men. John Trent and Gary Smalley wrote a book titled, The Blessing: Giving the Gift of Unconditional Love and Acceptance. And John Eldredge wrote a book titled, Wild at Heart: Discovering the Secret of a Man's Soul. He also discussed two articles that highlight both the impact and role of men in the lives of boys, and also the challenge today in knowing what it even means to be a man: Demaryius Thomas, “For Mamma,” The Player's Tribune. From heartbreak to fragrance empire: How PHLUR became the Taylor Swift of scent When Chriselle Lim took over PHLUR in 2021, she was going through a divorce and wanted to bottle up loneliness itself, specifically, the scent of someone's skin that brings warmth when you're alone. What started as emotional therapy became a fragrance phenomenon with 250,000-person waitlists. This week on The Formula, Kelly chats with the woman behind PHLUR about turning personal trauma into business gold, why fragrance wardrobes are replacing signature scents, and how she built a community so devoted they'll blind-buy every release. From the genius behind fragrance names like Father Figure and Missing Person, to why Gen Alpha treats fragrance like fashion, Chriselle reveals how storytelling drives every scent creation. Plus, she reveals which PHLUR fragrance to try first (spoiler: it's the "blue jeans of fragrance") and her take on what Australia would smell like as a scent. The term "daddy issues" points to what happens when you don't get healthy fathering. A good father figure provides grounding and stability - like being the kite string that keeps you tethered while you soar. They teach protection through boundaries, not control, and help you learn the difference between genuine care and manipulation. Healthy fathers mirror back your strength and identity, offer direction without forcing their views, and model accountability by showing that strength and vulnerability go together. Their approval is foundational, not conditional - you don't have to earn love through people-pleasing. Eventually, they bless your independence instead of trying to keep you small. When you miss out on this kind of fathering, you can end up defensive, approval-seeking, or struggling with boundaries. The healing work means learning to reparent yourself and give yourself what you didn't get.
Host Troy L. Love sits down with James, a social worker who shares his journey from childhood abandonment and family wounds to grief after the death of a beloved stepfather. They explore how anger, betrayal, addiction, faith, and self-compassion shaped his healing. Through candid conversation, James describes steps toward peace — setting boundaries with inner judgment, choosing faith over the numbing rebel, and using hardship to grow, serve others, and reclaim safety and purpose. Thanks to the Artists from Artlist and Storyblocks for the background music.

It's Gay Pride (in America)! To commemorate iconic homosexual musician George Michael in the week of what would have been his 62nd birthday, and for our fifth annual Pride episode in the last week of Pride MONTH, Matt takes a look at the enduring cultural impact of George Michael's song Father Figure, and the idea that, as eminent American producer, Dick Clark once put it “Music is the soundtrack of your life.” And from there, Matt talks about how George Michael's music helped him as a small boy to re-discover the fun of pop music, and maybe even life, after the sudden death of his father. It's an episode about a whole lot of things, it runs a slim, almost 27 minutes (a commute!), and it includes Liza Minnelli, Stephen Sondheim, and The Pet Shop Boys in a small but reassuring way.Subscribe to our substack hereFollow us on Instagram hereFollow Matt Phillp hereFollow Erin Hosier hereFollow Elizabeth Thompson here This is a public episode. What happens when you realize the person you've been presenting to the world for decades isn't your true self? Jay Washington's powerful conversation takes us on a journey through authenticity, emotional growth, and unexpected life pivots. The conversation takes a deeply moving turn as Jay shares his transition from being the fun uncle ("funkle") to becoming a father figure ("dunkle") for his niece and nephew after they lost both parents. Rather than seeing this unexpected responsibility as a burden, Jay discovered it became his North Star, providing purpose and healing wounds he didn't know existed. "To make the choice to love a child that you didn't biologically create is a special gift," he reflects.Jay's insights on setting boundaries, emotional intelligence, and breaking generational cycles offer practical wisdom for anyone navigating their own pivot. His simple yet profound advice to his younger self "I would hug him and tell him you are enough" encapsulates the core message of his transformation. In this heartfelt episode of Hot Topics, hosts J. Fotsch and Will Cox sit down with Zach Troutman—coach, community leader and founder of Follow the Leader—to discuss the impact of intentional fatherhood, mentorship and vulnerability. Zach opens up about growing up without his dad, losing his best friend to suicide and how these experiences shaped his mission to provide stability, openness and support for his children and others. Key points include the power of transparency in fatherhood, how grief can be channeled into advocacy and mentorship and why dads must model emotional awareness for their kids. Zach also shares how his approach to parenting—screen-free weekdays, consistent structure and honest conversations—helps build strong, emotionally resilient sons. Through his coaching and suicide prevention work, he inspires others to love deeply, lead intentionally and step in as father figures where needed. Episode Highlights [02:56] – “Being their dad has opened me up because I don't want any of the dirtiness inside of me to get on them.” [05:57] – “I wanted to keep Adam's name alive… to create safe spaces for students, adults, businesses.” [10:39] – “Sometimes people don't understand—like, I can't meet you where you're at if I don't know where you're at.” [17:58] – “God, if they make a mistake today, let it be their mistake and not because they followed someone.” [25:23] – “I don't want my kids to ever think their Blackness is a handicap. I'm like, no—it's a superpower.” [30:54] – “It is literally set up for us to be mediocre parents... but being a great father, you gotta be intentional.” Resources
Today on Karl and Crew, we continued our weekly theme of Fathers in the Bible as we flipped to Exodus 18 to analyze Moses and his father-in-law, Jethro, as father-figures. We saw how Jethro provided counsel to Moses regarding his leadership, and because of the context of their relationship and who Jethro was, Moses was humble and receptive to it. Often, God places father-figures in our lives to help guide and counsel us because they may have experience or wisdom in areas we may not. We turned to the phone lines to hear about the father-figures in the lives of our listeners and how they impacted their lives. We also had Ron Deal join us to discuss the role and significance of a non-biological father figure, the step-dad. Ron is a best-selling author, licensed marriage and family therapist, podcaster, and popular conference speaker. He is also the Founder and President of Smart Stepfamilies and Director of Blended, a division of Family Life. Ron has authored several books, including “The Smart Stepdad.” Janet Parshall also joined us in analyzing the worldview of the modern woman with that of a godly woman. Janet hosts the national program, In the Market with Janet Parshall, which airs weekdays from 4-6 pm CT. She has been broadcasting from the nation’s capital for over three decades and has spoken internationally.
