You know when one of your reviews is "I'm not sure if Kenneth will break into song at any moment", you're either getting something that's gonna be awesome or bordering on disaster. This film is a mixed bag, which is ironic, because MARY SHELLEY'S FRANKENSTEIN, directed and starring Kenneth Branagh, is about a mad scientist who takes a bunch of dead bodies, stitches them together and brings them back to life. It's a tale as old as 1818, as they say. If the dazzling lights of contraptions pulsating, buzzing, and electrifying don't grab you, Kenneth's washboard definitely will!
Welcome to Episode 400!! Dave Hill is a comedian, writer, musician, actor, radio host, and man-about-town originally from Cleveland, Ohio but now living in New York City in a totally sweet apartment with a party deck and everything. Hot chicks come over to hang out and eat cheese plates and stuff with him all the time and it's awesome. Anyway, on the show business front, Dave has appeared on Netflix's The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Adult Swim's Joe Pera Talks with You Amazon's The Tick, Peacock TV's Girls5Eva, Comedy Central's @midnight and Inside Amy Schumer programs, TBS' Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, TV Land's The Jim Gaffigan Show, and TruTV's Comedy Knockout among a bunch of others. He is a frequent on-air host for HBO and Cinemax and has been on channels like MTV, VH1, BBC-America, and the Sundance Channel a whole bunch too. Dave also starred in his own television program The King of Miami on the Mojo Network, which was cancelled even though Dave really liked it. The show also aired in the United Kingdom on Sky TV's Film24 Channel. And you can still watch The King of Miami on Hulu too, which Dave is super pumped about. Oh, and Dave was a correspondent on Hoppus on Music starring Blink 182's Mark Hoppus on the Fuse channel, which ruled. Dave has been on other shows and in obscure movies too but let's keep moving for now. Dave performs live comedy over the world and has appeared at such festivals as the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, SXSW, San Francisco Sketchfest, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, Sasquatch Festival, Bumbershoot, Bonnaroo, the Bridgetown Comedy Festival in Portland, the Crap Comedy Festival in Oslo, Outside Lands in San Francisco, and then some other ones too. He has also performed comedy at Sing Sing Correctional Facility twice and even ripped some guitar solos inside a Mexican prison a couple times too. In 2007, Variety magazine named Dave one of their “10 Comedians to Watch,” something he still won't shut up about. Some things are hard to let go of. Dave hosted his own radio show The Goddamn Dave Hill Show on WFMU in Jersey City, New Jersey every Monday night from 9pm to midnight for years and now hosts the podcast Dave Hill's Podcasting Incident, which is also broadcast on the UK's Fubar Radio, So...You're Canadian with Dave Hill, and History Fluffer, on which he is joined by Jim Biederman, Jodi Lennon, and Chris Gersbeck. Dave is also a frequent contributor to public radio's Live from Here with Chris Thile and This American Life. He has also appeared on podcasts like WTF with Marc Maron, The Adam Carolla Show, The Nerdist, and then roughly 78 other ones besides those. Dave is the author of four books, including his brand new book The Awesome Game: One Man's Incredible, Globe-Crushing Hockey Odyssey, in addition to Parking the Moose (Doubleday Canada/Penguin Random House 2019), Tasteful Nudes (St. Martins Press, 2012) and Dave Hill Doesn't Live Here Anymore (Blue Rider Press 2016). He has also written for the New York Times, GQ, Salon, The Paris Review, McSweeney's, New York Observer, The Cleveland Plain Dealer, VICE, Guitar World, and a bunch of other places too. Comedy legend Dick Cavett called Dave “a major figure among American comic writers, past and present,” which is pretty much the coolest thing that has ever happened as far as Dave is concerned. Dave is also a musician who currently sings and plays guitar in the power pop band Valley Lodge, whose song “Go” is the theme song to HBO's Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, and the psych/garage rock band Painted Doll. He was also a member of Cleveland rock bands Sons of Elvis and Cobra Verde as well as Diamondsnake, a heavy metal band with Moby. Additionally, Dave has played guitar for Walter Schreifels and muscle metal band Thor and bass for Lucy Wainwright Roche and former Faith No More singer Chuck Mosley. He also contributed musical scores to films such as Dirty Deeds,
Movies. You love 'em, right? Now more than ever? The romanticism of cinema. The elegance of the silver screen. The pretentiousness of simply making money in Tinseltown. Yes! We are here for THE PLAYER. Robert Altman crafts a piece of fine art with this twisty m**der mystery about Griffin Mill, a high-level movie executive, who gets embroiled in a vendetta with a writer whose idea he didn't greenlight. Genius, right? This one is one of the good ones.

Something happened to Luke this weekend that has him considering a very big change in the hair department. He also learned his new favorite joke from an Uber driver. And Andrew had a moderately shocking moment in a record store.
And like that, we're coming out of another "Spooky P**is Month" and back to the drudgery of season... Shorter days. Colder nights. Christmas. It's all downhill from here. SO CHERISH THESE MOMENTS! We're covering one of cinema's brightest stars and a film he wishes to have absolutely no association with WHATSOEVER! Yeah, we're covering Ti West. Of course, people will scream from the mountains, "Guys, there are other films to cover of his!" and you would be correct, but this is just kind of funny... AND GROSS! This is one of the most shameless, ickiest, nastiest looking sequels to an underwhelming horror franchise from Eli Roth and, y'know what? This rulez! Just be prepared for how gross it is, and you'll be pleasantly surprised.
On this episode we're joined by Ishan Thakore. Ishan is a climate and environmental reporter for Colorado Public Radio. He previously worked as a researcher, fact checker and field associate producer for Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, a show that ran on TBS that used comedy to tell and analyze news stories. We talked to Ishan about both jobs. He discussed his responsibilities on Full Frontal, the kinds of stories he did, the process that went into producing them, and why comedy was an effective storytelling tool.He also explained his current beat and how almost every story has a climate and environmental aspect to it, and he shared what it's like to work in public radio right now.Ishan's websitehttps://www.ishanthakore.com/Lumpkin or Leave It (Full Frontal)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iL1EyLolFUkTrump Administration Canceling Fundinghttps://www.cpr.org/2025/07/10/trump-cancels-millions-agriculture-funding/Ishan's salutes: The Committee to Protect Journalists and The Society for Environmental JournalistsYou can find all our episode guides for teachers and professors (including this one) here,Please support your local public radio station: adoptastation.orgThank you for listening. It's that time of year once again! It comes every year! SPOOKY PENIS MONTH! And we're hitting it hard with a "classic" in the form of John Irvin's GHOST STORY! I don't want to diminish it; it is a classic. It has some memorable moments and a scene that we uncover that we got very excited about. The way it's put together and how it's presented really make it. But other than that, it's about a bunch of rich old men having nightmares after some supremely abhorrent behavior in their youth haunts them and irritates their spouses, and that's about it. Anyway, let's ring in the festivities with our first installment of the season!
Keeping secrets...In the shadows... Or something more descriptive/funny/entertaining, etc. This film is the very definition of "twisty-turny", full of characters waiting to double-cross or double-cross those double-crossers. Maybe the twistiest, turniest film we've ever covered. More so than WILD THINGS. A very serious film about the Dutch Resistance fighters during the Second World War made by Paul Verhoeven.BLACK BOOK marked his departure from Hollywood and a return to Holland since making THE FOURTH MAN. This is a very accomplished film by a very accomplished filmmaker and is well worth a watch or two to get all the little details he put in there. Sit back and strap in for a 2.5-hour ride (don't worry, this episode is only 50 minutes).
This week, Billy Sutterlin speaks on falling in love with music and performing. From being a founding member to Full Frontal, to starting White Knuckle Weekend, Billy plants seeds where he goes. Who knows how far this episode will reach with something like "FEMALE" in the title, huh? Oh, we're only joking, YOU know why. In part 2 of our "August-Where-We-Cover-Films-With-Female-in-The-Title", we're looking at Susan Streitfeld's FEMALE PERVERSIONS. A film of theatrical quality and its own distinct style, it may not appeal to everyone. It may alienate others, and generate wonderment for some. It's hard to argue that the film has something to offer within the scope of exploring woman creatives and voices in cinema. Just watch out for the one-and-only Clancy Brown shine for no more than 3 scenes and basically Philip Seymour Hoffman this!
Steven Soderbergh's second release of 2002, after FULL FRONTAL, was another very odd move: a remake of Andrei Tarkovsky's SOLARIS (well, more of a new adaptation of the Stanislaw Lem novel). Underappreciated at the time, Soderbergh's SOLARIS has grown in reputation as one of the great science fiction films of the 2000s - so we brought on a bonafide science fiction expert, Aaron Thorpe, to talk about it! Join us for a thoughtful and wide-ranging conversation about the purpose of science fiction, comprehending the vastness of space, grief, blackness in sci-fi, and OSMOSIS JONES. Yeah, like we weren't going to go over two and a half hours on FULL FRONTAL. Following the generational run of OUT OF SIGHT, THE LIMEY, ERIN BROCKOVICH, TRAFFIC, and OCEAN'S ELEVEN, Steven Soderbergh did what anyone would do: he shot a semi-improvised ensemble Hollywood satire on a consumer grade digital camera. The result, FULL FRONTAL, is a fascinating film about connection, mediation, performance, and the film industry, so who better to talk about it with than our Hollywood bigwig buddy, filmmaker and producer Chadd Harbold? This is a really good one, folks - don't sleep on it! If there's anything you're bound to enjoy, it's a good fight movie! This doesn't have "FIGHT" in the title, but adopts the more measured and assured term "SELF-DEFENSE". Fighting shouldn't be encouraged or promoted, but looking after yourself should, respectfully. That brings us to Riley Stearns' 2019 black comedy THE ART OF SELF-DEFENSE, which follows a "weak" man who gets beaten up, decides to learn to fight, and discovers his inner manliness. As dystopian as this world is presented, I do appreciate the idea of just being able to buy something that is generically named "DOG FOOD" to eliminate the time wasted in having to think about my choices. Before I bore you with how complicated my life is buying dog food, enjoy this film review.

Ricky, Ricky, Ricky! We're back with our first episode stalwart, Richard Rush!We always knew we were going to return to the world of Rush, this time in his most notable film, THE STUNT MAN. Starring Peter O'Toole, Barbara Hershey, and Steve Railsback, this film tells a tale about a wanted felon who stumbles onto a film set and 'just begins working' as a stuntman, and everyone loves him.As you might expect, there is a lot of 'Rush-isms' in this, for better or worse. But honestly, we wouldn't have it any other way! Remember, King Kong was only 3'6". It was the 'movie magic' that made him tall.

In this unforgettable Full Frontal of What's Your Position, we sit down with the incomparable Jessica Lynn—international speaker, educator, and trans rights advocate whose personal story has changed laws, hearts, and minds around the world. With raw vulnerability and unapologetic brilliance, Jessica opens up about her decades-long fight for truth, identity, and justice—including her high-profile custody battle that became a lightning rod in the global conversation around transgender rights. We explore her evolution from a life lived in hiding to one of radical visibility, and how her scientific knowledge, emotional intelligence, and deep compassion have made her one of the most sought-after voices in gender education today. Fewer than 30% of trans adults over 50 say they have strong support systems. Jessica is changing that—one conversation, one courtroom, and one country at a time. This episode is honest, intimate, and full of the kind of truth that lingers long after the mic goes off. Whether you're questioning, learning, or unlearning, Jessica's story will move you to think deeper, love harder, and show up louder. Check out her website here: Jessica's Website
Oh boy. We've found ourselves in a bit of Barney Rubble, eh? However hard we try, we seem to find ourselves back in prison. And in this episode, you can listen to us in "real-time" literally figuring out how many "prison movies" we've already uncovered, and it's alarming. We're back with Mr. Mackenzie after we did YOUNG ADAM all those episodes ago, and it's another pretty bleak and disheartening piece of cinema starring Jack O'Connell in a big bad man prison. Key words here: "Prison Kisses" and you won't be disappointed.Enjoy! (hahah)

Hello Fellow Humans! For todays Full Frontal, slip into something a little more comfortable and join us for a steamy stroll through the aisles of desire. In this episode, we get intimate with “V,” a fabulous friend and fierce expert from a local California sex shop, as we uncover the surprisingly scandalous history of erotic retail. Did you know the first recorded sex shop opened in London in 1738? That's right—across the pond, folks were already in the mood for mood lighting and feather ticklers. But when it came to the U.S., things got a little… stiff. Cue the Comstock Laws, those Victorian-era vibe-killers that tried to criminalize anything sexy—including your grandma's vintage vibrators. We dish on how laws have tried (and failed) to police desire, and “V” dishes on why walking into a real, brick-and-mortar pleasure shop can still offer something the internet never could: human connection, trusted guidance, and a judgment-free zone to explore your deepest curiosities. We spill the tea, and the lube on just how horney Americans are. Did you know we are buying pleasure products by the millions? In fact, the U.S. sex toy market hit over $10.6 billion in 2024. That's a whole lot of buzz, babes. So grab your lube and get comfy—we're talking vibrators, vibrancy, and the value of keeping things real in a digital age. This one's for the lovers, the learners, and everyone in between.
Hitting the tonnes with something "special".Episode 101 sees us covering SALÒ, or THE 120 DAYS OF SODOM, with our friends from UNCOMFORTABLE BRUNCH: Josh and Kat. This is a film that, even describing it in any way, will make us look like freaks. We promise that next time we'll cover something funny(-ish). Buckle up buttercups! If you've watched the film, you have an idea what to expect. If you have watched the film and decided to come here for further analysis, can I ask you one thing? Are you OK?

Look at where our tenacity and dedication have gotten us. All the way to episode 100! It is true what they say: if you stick at something long enough in a sequential order, you will eventually reach EPISODE 100. Don't quote me, but I think Mark Maron said that. But what an episode 100 this is. We look at the seminal work of a visionary, David Lynch, who passed away earlier this year. Starring Kyle McLachlan, Isabella Rossellini, Laura Dern, Dean Stockwell, and Dennis Hopper, this is the story about finding an ear and figuring out who it belongs to. And Frank, obviously. Beautiful, disgusting, violent Frank. Little did Laura and Ryan know that we recite Frank's lines more often than not in everyday life, which is probably why people may perceive our relationship as far from golden. But that's your fault; you have no sense of humor. Just shut up and listen to our podcast!
Its been over for a minute now...but like its for real this time. The guys talk about the really sour week of Ducks hockey and give their thoughts about what's gone wrong in just a week... They cover the Gr8 Chase and give Alex Ovechkin props for how he's handling Goal No. 895. As always, they answer listener questions to finish out the episode! This week Nathan and Chris are joined by special guest Mike Drucker, comedian and writer on shows like Adam Ruins Everything, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, to talk about his new book, Good Game, No Rematch: A Life Made of Video Games. We discuss how games and people's relationship to them have changed over the years – and also the time Mike got shot in the dick with a paintball gun while working for Nintendo. Speaking of Nintendo, we then move on to the Switch 2, which the company finally revealed in earnest this week with a handful of intriguing games (Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, a new FromSoftware game) and a price tag that's giving would-be buyers serious sticker shock as a result of, well, everything else going on in the world right now. We also put out into the universe the idea of a new DK Rap – but this time they hire a legit rapper and play it totally straight. Please, Nintendo, fulfill our dreams.Credits- Hosts: Nathan Grayson, Chris Person, & special guest Mike Drucker- Podcast Production & Ads: Multitude- Subscribe to Aftermath!About The ShowAftermath Hours is the flagship podcast of Aftermath, a worker-owned, subscription-based website covering video games, the internet, and everything that comes after from journalists who previously worked at Kotaku, Vice, and The Washington Post. Starring Mark Rylance, Kerry Fox, and Timothy Spall, directed by Patrice Chéreau, this film is about the silent sexual encounters of two people amidst the lonely landscape of a dark-set urban London. This is quite a 'big' entry in the pantheon of our OTB legacy, and we take a slightly different tact with this one. It comes out that we quite like this one even if people don't. Isn't that the way it goes though? This is episode 99 as well. That's kinda great, isn't it? Episode 100 is next up (obviously).
Not that anybody asked but this week we switched to incognito mode and signed up for NordVPN because, after years of The Reverend Scott K from The Church Of Tarantino hounding us, we're finally ruining our search histories and talking about Full Frontal Male Nudity. Hey Lifers! We’re all rev heads now. Officially on the F1 bandwagon; real housewives or documentary, you can decide. We have a quick catch up on our weekend! RIP Keeshia’s toe and Britt’s dignity after a trip to chemist warehouse and a case of mistaken identity. Laura has a small health update of something she’s been putting up with since last September. We desperately need better options when it comes to women’s health care and this is a little reminder to advocate for your own health. Is there a double standard when it comes to full frontals on our screens? Jason Isaacs is sick of being asked whether or not he wore a prosthetic penis in The White Lotus where his character, Timothy Ratliff, had his penis hanging out of his bathrobe while in front of his children. He said “It’s interesting that there’s a double standard for men. But when women are naked, Margaret Qualley, in ‘The Substance,’ nobody would dream of talking to her about her genitalia or her nipples. So, it's odd that there’s a double standard.” We speak about: Whether he has a point How women’s nudity has been used on screens How the media has approached female on screen nudity The difference between romantic/seductive full frontals and shock/comedic nude scenes Our thoughts about prosthetics being used on screen You can watch us on Youtube Find us on Instagram Join us on tiktok Or join the Facebook Discussion Group Tell your mum, tell your dad, tell your dog, tell your friend and share the love because WE LOVE LOVE! Who'd have thought that answering a magazine advert to be a man's "wife" on an island, fending for yourself for an entire year, would be a terrible idea? They have to live off the land, free from outside influence, a true escape from the monotony of city life in London. We believe this feeling of "escape" is a very "Western" idealist concept. In that respect, it's a very throwaway idea. But these guys actually did it. And here's the end result.Based on the true story of Lucy Irvine, who answered a magazine advert to spend one year on a secluded island with a man she had just met seems too wild to have happened. Starring Oliver Reed and Amanda Donohoe, directed by Nicholas Roeg, this film is a mixed experience, especially as rare as the film is to obtain in its original, legitimate release.

It's a very special New Year episode for The Assignment: a conversation with Emmy-winning comedian and writer Samantha Bee about the state of politics and how she's engaging with the political moment. Bee is known for her time as a correspondent on The Daily Show and her own late-night show, Full Frontal with Samantha Bee. She is now the host of the podcast Choice Words. Audie invites back her podcast friends for this conversation: Kara Swisher, host of On with Kara Swisher and co-host of Pivot, and Van Lathan, co-host of The Ringer's Higher Learning podcast. They also share their “Word of the Year” for 2024, and give a predictive word for 2025. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Samantha Bee is a comedian, author and former late-night host who hosts the podcast Choice Words with Samantha Bee and co-hosts The Daily Beast Podcast with Joanna Coles. Her weekly late-night comedy series, Full Frontal with Samantha Bee was nominated for over 70 awards — and she has personally been nominated for 18 Emmy awards and won for both writing and executive producing. Full Frontal was explicitly, and hilariously, political and left-leaning so it's a bit surprising that Bee has declared herself Democrat-celibate, (at least for now). Samantha explains her new approach to politics and dishes on her biggest regret in this CNN pilot titled “Off Script” with Kara, Audie Cornish, CNN correspondent and host of The Assignment, and Van Lathan, co-host of The Ringer's Higher Learning podcast.
