In the summer of 1982, the punky, upbeat sound of Bow Wow Wow's cover of “I Want Candy” served as a perfect compliment to both the warm weather and the music revolution that was MTV. The band was fronted by the very young Annabella Lwin, whose energy, style, and mohawk made her as memorable as the song itself. It was the controversial vision of fashion designer, manager, lyricist, and provocateur Malcolm McLaren that helped propel the band to stardom, but once they achieved success, he grew bored and moved on. The band's demise soon followed, leaving a legacy of quirky music and questionable choices to discuss. In the midst of the late 2015 charts that featured the likes of Justin Bieber, The Weeknd, Adele, and Drake, you'll find Elle King, the raspy-voiced singer-songwriter whose sound was a cross between country and rock. Her Top 10 hit “Ex's & Oh's” was a critically acclaimed track that describes Elle's past relationships with needy men and how they tend to come back to haunt her. In 2008, Welsh singer-songwriter Duffy looked ready to take over the world of music. The Heights was a short-lived TV show about a diverse seven-piece band that aired on Fox in the early 90s. Each episode ended with a music video that kinda encapsulated the whole episode, and at the end of the pilot episode, a young actor named Jamie Walters sung a song so powerful that it would be the end of the road for, well, “End of the Road” from Boyz II Men's epic 13 week run at #1 on the Hot 100. “How Do You Talk to an Angel” would then become the show's theme song by the third episode, and this fictional band was topping the charts. Funny enough, the show is called The Heights, and the band lives in an undisclosed place called “The Heights”, but they never actually say that it's the band's name on the show. It's unclear if the band even had a name. It didn't matter. Despite the song's massive success, the show was canceled after 13 episodes, and we're left to wonder how many more hits the show could've spawned if Aaron Spelling hadn't given up on it. This week, we're joined by the married couple of Jim Logrando and Trisha Novy to decide if there were even MORE heights that could've been reached if this television band could've gotten that Season 2 renewal. In 1987, an up-and-coming film director named Spike Lee was working on his first major film after achieving success in the indie world. School Daze was based on Spike's own college experiences, and he needed the ultimate party jam for the soundtrack.
