The global electronics industry stands at a crossroads of political uncertainty and economic volatility. Few understand this challenging landscape better than Chris Mitchell, Vice President of Government Relations at IPC, who shared valuable insights with me during this candid conversation recorded at APEX 2025.Chris, who oversees both government relations and industry intelligence programs, reveals how IPC has strategically expanded its global footprint to better serve members navigating complexity. With dedicated representatives now covering North America, Europe, and soon Asia, the organization provides crucial intelligence that helps companies make confident decisions despite market turbulence. As Chris observes, "Companies are looking for clarity," which explains why many have temporarily paused investments and expansion while awaiting greater certainty. The political dimension looms large throughout our discussion. Chris offers a sobering assessment that volatility will likely continue for six to nine months as the US administration reshapes its approach to domestic governance and international relationships. Yet he remains optimistic that opportunities will emerge once the situation stabilizes. Meanwhile, in Europe, IPC focuses on revitalizing weak industry segments by helping policymakers recognize and address fundamental challenges. What truly distinguishes IPC is its evolution into a respected global authority through strategic investment in expertise. The organization has assembled an impressive internal team including chief economist Shawn Dubravac, sustainability leader Kelly Scanlon, and engineering specialist Matt Kelly. Together, they transform overwhelming amounts of data into actionable insights, particularly valuable for companies evaluating supply chain diversification or new investment locations. As Chris notes, the challenge isn't just having data—it's having quality data delivered with meaningful context.EMS@C-Level Live at APEX is sponsored by global inspection leaders Koh Young (https://www.kohyoung.com) and Creative Electron (https://creativeelectron.com)You can see video versions of all of the EMS@C-Level pods on our YouTube playlist.

Are you looking for some hard-hitting insights on compliance? Look no further than Compliance into the Weeds! In this episode of Compliance into the Weeds, Tom Fox and Matt Kelly take a deep dive into the intricate future of corporate compliance amidst changes brought by the presidential executive order suspending FCPA investigation and enforcement. Matt shares insights from a recent Compliance Week event in Boston, highlighting concerns among compliance professionals about the potential obsolescence of their roles. The discussion covers two primary scenarios: regulatory relaxation, making dedicated compliance roles redundant, and technological advancements, particularly AI, potentially replacing human compliance officers. However, both agree on the enduring importance of robust compliance functions integrated within corporate structures, emphasizing the strategic value of compliance in risk management and business operations. They explore the dual excitement and anxiety surrounding AI's role in compliance. Matt and Tom caution against shortsighted management decisions to decentralize compliance functions and highlight how AI can be harnessed to enhance rather than replace human oversight. They argue for proactive measures from compliance officers to demonstrate their value and leverage AI to improve compliance programs. As Matt eloquently puts it, this is a challenging yet opportune time for compliance professionals to up their game and secure their vital role in ensuring corporate integrity and efficiency. Are you looking for some hard-hitting insights on compliance? Look no further than Compliance into the Weeds! In this Compliance into the Weeds episode, Tom Fox and Matt Kelly review the Trump Administration's attempts to end enforcement by the CFPB and corruption under the FCPA. Last week, significant alterations were made to enforcement policies related to the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), resulting in a noticeable reduction in enforcement efforts and a shift in focus towards issues like corporate bribery associated with drug cartels and human trafficking. These actions will create risks for U.S. businessmen in countries like China, who might face false charges due to the de-emphasis on traditional FCPA enforcement, and these policy shifts might expose U.S. companies to anti-corruption investigations leveraged by other countries in retaliation to Trump's trade policies. Matt Kelly emphasizes the need for businesses to maintain robust compliance programs despite the enforcement rollback, warning that legal risks remain due to the statute of limitations, and stresses the importance of upholding corporate compliance and ethical standards to prevent corruption. JP Morgan's recent decision to require employees to be back in the office five days a week caused the bank to disable employee comments on the internal announcement, citing backlash. Tom and Matt explore the implications this has on workplace respect, speak-up culture, and employee morale, juxtaposed with the compliance officer's role in measuring and maintaining corporate culture. They also detail how these corporate policies might reflect broader trust issues and potential fallout from a discontented workforce. Are you looking for some hard-hitting insights on compliance? Look no further than Compliance into the Weeds! In this episode, Tom Fox and Matt Kelly dive into the intricate and unusual story of the National Rifle Association (NRA) and its recent corporate governance overhaul. Matt and Tom explore Judge Joel Cohen's final ruling, which mandates extensive corporate governance reforms for the NRA. These reforms address significant issues, such as a structurally weak board, poor financial controls, and an overpowering CEO in Wayne LaPierre, who misused the organization's resources. Necessary measures discussed include revamping the board's audit committee and introducing annual compliance reports, along with significant protections for the role of the Chief Compliance Officer. The episode highlights the universal principles of good governance, asserting that the NRA's reforms can serve as a valuable lesson for other organizations. Regardless of the political or ethical stance on the NRA's activities, the implemented governance structures underscore the necessity of transparency, an empowered compliance function, and robust oversight mechanisms to prevent misuse of organizational resources. These insights are illustrated through sample agreements and templates in the court ruling, which can guide other organizations in strengthening their governance and compliance programs. The Post-Mortem autopsy continues. How could liberal elites have had eight and half years to prepare for the twenty thousand tonne train barrelling down the tracks right at them and not been able to take sufficient evasive action? Who are these clowns? Do they deserve what is coming? What can studying years of Brexit Fatigue, Orban Exhaustion, and Netanyahu Nihilism, teach us about both how this Trumpian travesty has happened and the likely disorderly evolution of peak Neopopulism in America? And what is the antidote to Trump Derangement Syndrome?  Jason needs a double dose.    In this episode, Jason is joined by Matt Kelly and Matt d'Ancona – the hosts of The New European's ‘The Two Matts' podcast. They discuss the abysmal state of the world and Keir Starmer's inability to lead with vision. They review and assess the rise of neopopulism in both the UK and the US. The conclusion is that the goose is cooked. Complacency and a lack of bold messaging has led to the evisceration of the centre-left globally. Jason even questions if he is of the centre-left anymore, concluding he may simply be a disillusioned and increasingly radical centrist. While the Two Matts share bon mot about recent horrific developments in Britain, Jason explores some lessons from Hungary and Israel, which may possibly shed some light on the likely future trajectory of neopopulism in America. Delving briefly into the shocking and depressing cabinet appointments trickling out of MAGA world, the Two Matts and Jason also reflect on the social legacy of the Trump era and its lasting impact on Western political discourse. In place of Ordering the Disorder (which may no longer be possible as Disorder has already won), The Two Matts answer lightening round questions about the most macabre moments of Trump-iness and some of the humorous aspects of the challenges ahead.    Subscribe to our Substack: https://natoandtheged.substack.com/    Show Notes Links  Get the Two Matts podcast - https://podfollow.com/2matts     Read the latest edition of the New European here: https://www.theneweuropean.co.uk/edition/the-beast-unleashed/     Read Jason's article, ‘A lizard person's guide to US election conspiracy theories' in the New European: https://www.theneweuropean.co.uk/a-lizard-persons-guide-to-us-election-conspiracy-theories/   Learn more about your ad choices.
