Vi elsker The Beatles

Hey Full House Fans, Angela Bowen here, the host of Oh Mylanta Holy Chalupas: An Unofficial Full House Fuller House Podcast. I have a special episode for today in honor of Jodie Sweetin's (Stephanie) Birthday (January 19). Today, I covered Full House S5E8: Gotta Dance, which aired on November 5, 1991. In this episode In this episode, Stephanie pleads Danny to let her take an intense dance program, but Danny only gives in because he wasn't able to fulfill his dream of being a high jumper. Soon Stephanie decides that she doesn't want to do the intense program any more because it consumes too much of her life, but Danny is living his dreams simultaneously through her. so Stephanie purposely screws up so that she might not have to dance anymore. Becky wants Jesse to come to her baby shower but everyone knows that Jesse would never want to come, so she tricks him into coming. But Michelle gives in to telling Jesse the truth when he bribes her with ice cream. I really liked this episode, it showed us how Stephanie throws herself into dancing before school and after school and soon it consumes her every waking thought until she realizes she's overcommitting herself and missing out on fun family activities like the baby shower. All it takes is DJ planting the seed of doubt by telling Steph "if I had your dedication" I'd have no life". Stephanie ponders this (no friends, no TV, not outside or family activities) and considers telling Danny that she wants to quit dance. At the dance recital Danny unbeknownst to him puts more pressure on Stephanie because he mentions a dance academy summer camp director is there to see the recital and Stephanie realizes it's too much, all dancing all the time during her Summer Vacation. Instead of admit the to Danny, she feels guilty (because she begged him to let her do this) and she interrupts the dance recital by interjecting her own dance moves into the performance. Embarrassed she runs off stage and Danny gets the truth out of her. I love what he says to her ("let's go back to when dancing was just a part of your life and not your whole life"). Her dance classmates forgive her and they try the number again. The side plot with the baby shower was cute, but I feel it would have been nice to have it be "a big monster blow out party before we become parents" as Becky referred to it. Jesse tricking Michelle with a ice cream sundae to spill the beans about it actually being a baby shower, he knows her vices. Jesse and Becky make up and agree to be honest with each other. Yeah, we know that won't last. Remember later in Season 5 when he mixes up the twin babies Nicky and Alex and can't tell them apart only a few episodes later? Have a great week everyone? WE'RE back (and a Happy New Year to ya!) and ready to catch you up on the exploits of Cincinnati's hottest new TV host with the most. So, when we left you last time, things were pretty rosy for the good Doctor. His "Rip Tide" persona saved his contract breaching butt just before airtime. Now, he's having a blast letting his ID run wild in the form of his alter-ego, sleazeball creation. How far will Rip go? How far will Johnny LET him go? Can Johnny even control this rampaging spandex menace? Find out as we take on "Dr. Fever and Mr. Tide - PART 2"!! Got your skates laced up? Spandex on? They've also restored scenes that had been cut to shorten episodes for syndication. The original eps ran 25 minutes. The syndication eps were shortened to 22 minutes. WELCOME BACK!!Johnny needs money...so what else is new? Big difference today, Johnny's picked up a side gig! He's been tapped to host a new Teen Dance show in the Cincinnati market!! (Hold on...Johnny FEVER? Dance Party?) Yeah, this one looked questionable from the start!!Johnny may have been persuaded by the pretty face hiding a shark of a producer named Avis. Avis lured Johnny in with too much Champagne and too few clothes. He signed a fairly ironclad contract. It wasn't until WAY too late he discovered this whole "dance" scene had nothing to do with Rock-n-Roll. It was all about the hated DISCO!!  Johnny's back is to the wall. If he doesn't get his sequined booty on the "Gotta Dance" stage he will be sued back to the Stone Age. Have no fear, the Ripper is here!! Johnny creates an "alter-ego" he calls "Rip Tide." Rip saves the day and becomes a HIT in Cincinnati. The kids can't get enough of the sad-eyed, middle-aged man in the clown suit who plays the disco hits!! The original DF&MT was a full hour the night it premiered. It was broken into two half hours for syndication. In the interest of our sanity, and to keep you from slogging through a two-hour podcast, we're breaking it down, too. This is PART ONE! Got your skates laced up? Spandex on? Sometimes we do things because it is good for us...sometime we do things because it's fun.  Dancing is both!

Maybe you'd like to hear about his fluid sexuality in the face of crushing boredom, or perhaps the French stage farce / film / musical / caveplay that inspired Happy Birthday, Babies? Perhaps you'd like to hear Jon recite an entire Fruity Pebbles commercial almost perfectly from memory? Look, whatever you want, we got it, baby. Dig in! XOXO

AGENDA: Head scratching and back slapping over our "Best MN Sports Podcast" award from City Pages Wild playoff preview including Keys to the Series (spoiler alert: the keys are Cooperalls and weird trash talk) The Twins are garbage but we have two silver linings, both related to boners Out of context quote: "Hairless Twink Ads" Unhinged griping about the Wolves, who even in this terrible sports town are the most hopeless franchise Footie stadium talk In summary, we started the episode wondering how we won an award and then spent 75 minutes justifying our confusion. This Intimate Conversation with Bruce Sallan was so amazing because we were so open. Both of us were able to connect and talk about our experiences as parents, discuss our children, and get into the whole dynamic of, as Bruce is famous for – his point of view! “Gotta Sing, Gotta Dance” are words from my favorite movie, Singin’ In The Rain. The passion and excitement they evoke struck me to the core while I was taking a college film course taught by critic Manny Farber (author of the seminal book, “American Cinema.”). Later, you could say I felt I “Gotta Write,” but I’m getting ahead of myself. A few years later, I was fortunate to get an internship with a television producer, while earning my M.B.A. from UCLA. What followed was an award-winning television executive and producing career. During those 25 years, I produced over 30 television movies, pilots, and series. I produced my first television movie at age 24 and was a vice president at ABC by the time I was 29. Along the way I was fortunate to work with such actors as Ingrid Bergman, Ron Howard (before he was a director), Mickey Rourke (THAT is a story), Don Johnson (another even better story), Ben Affleck, Hal Holbrook, Barbara Hershey, Sissy Spacek, Henry Winkler, Alan Arkin, and Brian Dennehey. I wrote articles for Daily Variety and the Producers Caucus Bulletin. I became a first-time dad, to a son, four days after my 40th birthday, less than 9 months after getting married (we got pregnant on the honeymoon). My second son was born three years later. When my boys were still quite young, I left show biz to become a full-time dad and to care for my ailing parents, the classic “sandwich” situation Sadly, shortly thereafter, my marriage ended and my wife abandoned our children, leaving the state. I found myself a full-time single dad, in my late-forties. And after a while, I jumped into the new world of Internet dating. I was surprised to find that it was pretty much the only mode of dating that anyone was using. I began writing various blogs on the dating sites I used, as well as articles for local publications, including a regular column for a local paper about being a single dad. Late in 2008, as my children were getting older and as both my aging parents had died, I began marketing my column to more newspapers and Web sites. The happy result, so far, is that I’m now published in over 50 papers and Web sites in 18 states, as well as several sites internationally, including the UK and India. Others are in the works. My focus is primarily on parenting issues from the dad’s point-of-view, though often the situations are gender-neutral. Yet, just as often they’re not. It is my contention that the dad’s point-of-view is less “heard” yet equally valuable to parents. My subject matter covers parenting situations I’ve experienced, but especially the ones that I believe are relevant to a great number of parents. That includes single parenting, divorce issues, dating as a single parent, step-parent issues, dealing with teens, drug and alcohol issues with teens, money issues, and sometimes just general issues about gender differences. I like to think I became a semi-expert on Internet Dating. And I suspect a compilation of all the blogs I wrote during that period will serve as the basis of my first book.
