With a catalogue as extensive as INXS', there was bound to be moments in time when certain songs captured the zeitgeist attention of the music buying public and critics. Look no further than January 28th, 1988 when a humble hard working sextet from Australia hit number one on the Billboard Charts with Need You Tonight. A song, that now, sounds so familiar, crisp and radio friendly but then, a new modern twist on funk, soul and pop with sound production so cutting edge, every breath, ooh and aah sounded like Michael Hutchence was singing it to you directly from your living room. Combined with an innovative, breathtaking and cutting edge video clip, Need you Tonight put INXS into the stratosphere of superstardom and success. MTV awards ensued, world tours were booked and the album Kick had the necessary momentum to spawn 4 subsequent hit singles and international acclaim. Five years later in February 1993, a less prominent and commercially successful track was released as the fifth single to Welcome to Wherever You are, namely Beautiful Girl. A self-penned track by Andrew Farriss as an ode to new fatherhood, this restrained, mellow and resonant song showcased a maturity, subtlety and consciousness to both the INXS writing and recording process. Charting steadily if not spectacularly, the film clip by Mark Pellington of U2 and Pearl Jam fame would garner a Grammy nomination for Best Video of the Year losing out to Peter Gabriel's “Steam” clip. That aside, the social conscious messaging of the clip resonated nicely with the lyrical content whilst Michael's channeling of Lou Reed, circa The Velvet Underground era only added to its worthiness. So sit back and reminisce as we step back in time and honour two distinct but two important songs in the INXS catalogue that still resonate 37 and 32 years later respectively. INXS: Access all Areas listeners were given a unique treat last week that being Part One of Mark Pellington whose industry credits go far beyond the Beautiful Girl video. Left with a cliffhanger as Mark escalated his frustration upon hearing INXS were not in fact, in the Rock Hall of Fame, we share in Part two's deep dive what that phone call entailed! Additionally, Mark opens up about how a personal family tragedy informed his artistic expression particularly in the year new millennium as he was increasingly chased by emerging artists such as The Fray, Keane, Kings of Leon, The Flaming Lips and The Dave Matthews Band. We get to hear Mark's interesting foray into acting much at the behest of iconic filmmaker Cameron Crowe (eg. Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Jerry Maguire and Almost Famous). Plus continued admiration for the musicianship and excellence of INXS and how working with true superstars such as Michael Hutchence and Bono affected Mark as a Director. All that and a whole lot more as we for the rarest of times, welcome a secret third wheel to the hosting duties all the way from Ottawa Canada! Famed USA Video, Film, Doco and TV Director, Mark Pellington joins INXS: Access all Areas to dive deep on his fantastic video for 1993 INXS single “Beautiful Girl” amidst many other broader conversations. Having gotten his start via MTV in 1983, Mark was at the forefront of when the video clip explosion was at the epicenter of the watching audience zeitgeist. Working initially with artists such as Leonard Cohen, De La Soul and PM Dawn, it was his future work with Pearl Jam's “Jeremy” video that brought Mark's unbridled talents into the forefront of the music industry heavy hitters. As such, he went on a peerless run Directing for U2 (One), Public Enemy (Shut em Down), REM (Drive), Alice In Chains (Rooster) plus Springsteen, Keane, The Flaming Lips and obviously our beloved INXS. Interestingly, it was INXS that would bring him his sole Grammy nomination eventually losing out to Peter Gabriel's “Steam” video (Urghhhh). Mark generously opens up how personal grief informed much of creative ideas and we get to dive deep on his work with other artists, feature films and his love of the Australian music industry culminating a cliffhanger moment regarding INXS' lack of recognition by the Rock Hall of Fame Committee that shall leave you clamouring for an early release of Part Two. Mark Pellington's pioneering influence on music videos as a modality to convey emotion, story and feeling will never be forgotten. From Leonard Cohen to Linkin Park, Michael Jackson to Public Enemy, Foo Fighters and Alice in Chains to Chelsea Wolfe and Bruce Springsteen, MP had penultimate foresight in constructing some of the most memorable portraits of love, war, loss, spirit and activism. His feature films each brought a tenet to the medium of storytelling. From 1997's Going All The Way (Ben Affleck, Jeremy Davies, Rachel Weisz, Rose McGowan), to the Grand Prix/Saturn Award-nominated Arlington Road (Jeff Bridges, Tim Robbins, Joan Cusack, Hope Davis); to The Mothman Prophecies, an intriguing parapsychological adaptive tale starring Richard Gere and Laura Linney; the dramedy, Henry Poole is Here; a story of friendship and loyalty in I Melt With You (Jeremy Piven, Thomas Jane, Christian McKay, Robe Lowe); the subtle poetry of grief, The Last Word; Nostalgia, with Catherine Keener and Jon Hamm headlining an ensemble cast; and the dance-expanse, The Severing, in 2022. His latest book, The Visualist, is an essential memoir surveying 40 years of shape-shifting filmmaking experiences. "It's a bird! it's a plane! It's Debra Messing from Will and Grace?"Join BP, Coop and Justin as we discuss The Mothman Prophecies, the 2002 film that follows John Klein (Richard Gere), a reporter who researches the legend of the Mothman. Still shaken by the death of his wife two years earlier from Glioblastoma, Klein is sent to cover a news piece and ends up inexplicably finding himself in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, where there have been sightings of an unusual creature and other unexplained phenomena. As he becomes increasingly drawn into mysterious forces at work, he hopes they can reconnect him to his wife, while the local sheriff (Laura Linney) becomes concerned about his obsessions. The film claims to be based on actual events that occurred between November 1966 and December 1967 in Point Pleasant, as described by Keel. It was shot in Pittsburgh and Kittanning, Pennsylvania and was released to mixed reviews.Follow the Complete Guide to Horror Movies podcast on our social channels below.↪ Facebook↪ TikTok↪ Twitter↪ Instagram↪ Subscribe to our YouTube channel↪ Tip us $5↪ Linktree↪ Website↪ Shop our Store!Box officeThe Mothman Prophecies opened at the U.S. box office on January 25, 2002, earning $11,208,851 in its first weekend failing to enter the top five grossing films. It eventually went on to garner $35,746,370 in the U.S., and $19,411,169 in foreign markets for a worldwide total of $55,157,539.Critical responseAmong mainstream critics in the U.S., the film received mixed reviews. Rotten Tomatoes reported that 52% of 140 sampled critics gave the film a positive review, with an average score of 5.50/10. The site's consensus simply labels it "A creepy thriller that poses more questions than it answers". At Metacritic, which assigns a weighted average out of 100 to critics' reviews, The Mothman Prophecies received a score of 52 based on 32 reviews. In 2003, the film won the Best Sound Editing: Music in a Feature Film award from the society of the Motion Picture Sound Editors.Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times gave it two stars out of four, calling it unfocused, but praised the direction by Mark Pellington "whose command of camera, pacing and the overall effect is so good, it deserves a better screenplay." The New York Times critic Elvis Mitchell judged it "hushed and smooth" but "little more than an adequate shard of winter-doldrums genre fare". The Washington Post's Stephen Hunter dismissed it as "all buzz: It's camerawork on the verge of a meltdown and weird music in search of a composer", and joked seeing it "is like getting mugged in an alley by an especially thuggish crew of Method actors". In Variety, Robert Koehler claimed it "wanders away from its sustained atmospherics into silly expository detours". For The Guardian, Bob Rickard defended it as "an intelligent and creative exploration of the slippery, dream-like world of those who 'get too close'".Chapters00:00 Intro00:15 Title Sequence00:52 Introducing The Mothman Prophecies03:14 Overall Thoughts05:11 What We Liked09:58 What We Disliked18:33 Trivia20:40 Nambucca Heads Creature Folklore23:07 Trivia (Continued)24:58 Ratings25:41 Final Thoughts27:19 Thank You27:46 I'm Like a Bird#mothman #richardgere #nellyfurtado #imlikeabird #flanders #debramessing #aprilfoolsday #aprilfools #drawntogether #thesimpsons #meme #2000smovies #2002 #chaneloberlin #00shorror #thewaterboy #kathybates #familyguy #agathachristie #horror #movie #death #horrorfilm #splatter #deathscene #blood #gore #scarymovie #horror #completeguidetohorror #horrormovie #scary #creepy #graphic

James Ridgley joined Justin and Paul to discuss filmmaking. He also shared his information on performing standup as well as on cruise ships, sketches, and going from juggling to microbudget films. His IMDb - https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0725927 About James James Ridgley grew up as a latch-key kid in West Los Angeles attending IPS, a program within University High School; an highly experimental learning environment which involved Landmark training and other "therapy" type instruction. Also where he attended a Metaphysics class which lead to an actual one time telepathic communication from his teacher from across the city. This would later affect his current screenwriting efforts in the Spiritual Drama/Dramedy genre (Perhaps a just made up genre.) That same year in High School he started his career performing a Comedy-Juggling act around the world, working as an Opening Act for Ray Charles; Marilyn McCoo; worked with Penn and Teller, Pee Wee Herman, the late great Bill Hicks, Bob Saget and others. He performed Stand-Up in the 80's and 90's and dabbled in screenwriting. While the screenplay "DC DOG" got him noticed, along with a 2nd Place standing in Kodak's Short Script Film Awards for his original script "Where Life Begins" it didn't lead to production so he went to film school to learn the art himself. From this naive position he ended up with jobs in editorial and then mostly as a Production Sound Mixer, working with his favorite directors: Mark Pellington, Mike Mills, and Victor Salva. In between he writes and directs his own projects and has a slew of Screenplays ready to market.

Welcome to The B-Side, from The Film Stage. Here we talk about movie stars! Not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones that they made in between. Today we get to talk to the immensely-talented Mark Pellington, the filmmaker behind hits like Arlington Road and The Mothman Prophecies, some of the best music videos ever made, some of the weirdest, coolest stuff ever on MTV, and a slew of other interesting, powerful pieces of work. He's re-cut (and really remade) his directorial debut Going All The Way, starring Jeremy Davies and Ben Affleck, adapted from the Dan Wakefield novel of the same name. Going All The Way: The Director's Edit is currently screening at Brain Dead Studios & Laemmle Glendale in Los Angeles, and will open on Dec. 16th at Quad Cinema in New York with rollout to follow. Visit this link for more info. We discuss everything with Pellington, from his remaking his first feature to his own B-Sides Henry Poole Is Here and I Melt With You. There's talk of his extremely personal short doc Fathers Daze, his Quibi show Survive and the upcoming feature film version. Pellington tells us why he still likes to discover movies on cable, why he'd like to re-cut Henry Poole Is Here if given the chance, and why there is so much flat cinematography & aesthetic sameness in the streaming age. Finally, he tells us a bit about his hopefully-upcoming Magnum Opus Memory Epic Clang. Fingers crossed on the making of that film! This is one of our most in-depth conversations with a filmmaker so far, and we encourage you to listen good and seek out all that Pellington's done. PUBLIC VERSION. In the second part of our expansive conversation with acclaimed filmmaker Mark Pellington (ARLINGTON ROAD, THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES, PEARL JAM's "Jeremy" music video) Mark rejoins Adam, Joe & Arwen to continue discussing his wide and varied career with a focus on the feature film and TV side of his work. Including amazing anecdotes on the making of films such as his first feature GONG ALL THE WAY (which he is currently painstakingly restoring)... to the trials of studio storytelling with ARLINGTON ROAD (starring Jeff Bridges and Tim Robbins)... to insightful tales of making THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES (starring Richard Gere). Mark also goes into frank, emotional detail on the sudden death of his wife in 2003 (a tragedy that he calls “the end of that part of my life”) and how friends, family, therapy and his own work served as healing. We also discuss how his new experimental music/dance feature THE SEVERING helped him reconnect to the world.   Dr. Arwen takes this week off of "Hollywood Therapy" but Mark provides plenty of therapeutic  discussion on how to work through tragedy as well as plenty of tips and tricks on directing actors and crew.

I had the pleasure of chatting with Gloria recently. Fun conversation and I miss seeing her. AND --- Gloria's background is amazing. She was born and raised in the Bronx and attended St. Nicholas Elementary School , and started her acting career by playing the Angel in her kindergarten school play, followed by a new play every year. In High School, she participated in school plays and choir performances, as well as being active in the drama, music, and ecology clubs. Gloria received her B.F.A. in Acting from Long Island University where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. In college, Gloria's portrayal of Ariel in “The Tempest” earned her an Irene Ryan Nomination where she placed as the 1st National Alternate. After college, Gloria embarked on a national tour (“Great Scientists Throughout the Ages” by the National Theatre for the Performing Arts), and two regional tours “Halfway There” with the Periwinkle National Theatre Company, and various plays in repertoire with the George Street Playhouse Touring Company. Afterwards she settled back to NYC where she worked consistently in theatre doing both plays and musical theatre throughout the NY and NJ area, while constantly in acting and dance classes. In NYC, Gloria landed the role of “J” in NYC's Off-Off-Broadway hit “Mono” (Critic's Pick of the week by Time Out NY, Paper Magazine, and NY Magazine in 2004). In 2004, while still living in NYC, Gloria was cast in “Two Sisters and a Piano” by Nilo Cruz at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego, CA. Having had great success in NYC, she relocated to California and immediately got an audition for Jim Carrey's “Fun With Dick and Jane”. Gloria landed the role of “Blanca”, Mr. Carrey's nanny. PUBLIC VERSION. Filmmaker Mark Pellington (ARLINGTON ROAD, THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES, I MELT WITH YOU, PEARL JAM's “Jeremy” music video) joins Adam, Joe, and Arwen for a discussion about his career that is so epic and fascinatingly detailed that even at 2.5 hours long they barely scratch the surface. That's right, the guys geeked out so hard over Mark's early MTV years that they will need to record a separate episode dedicated to Mark's feature film work!  Pull up a front row seat to the birth of MTV as Mark candidly discusses his journey from an entry level assistant position in 1982… to becoming a bona fide network staff member… to producing some of the network's most iconic promotions… and ultimately becoming one of the most revered music video directors of all time working with bands like PEARL JAM, U2, NINE INCH NAILS, BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN, IMAGINE DRAGONS, ALICE IN CHAINS, LINKIN PARK, and the late MICHAEL JACKSON.  Dr. Arwen provides “Hollywood Therapy” for a listener dealing with intense frustration and the guys discuss Mark's latest film THE SEVERING (in theaters this weekend)- a cathartic expression of grief inspired by the devastating loss of Mark's wife that is told through the physicality of dance as opposed to a more traditional linear narrative. It's a full house on this episode of #BTLRadioShow thanks to our two very special guests - MARK PELLINGTON talking his new film THE SEVERING and JOY VILLA talking THE CONTRAST! MARK PELLINGTON joins us at the top of the show to talk about his new film THE SEVERING which makes its 2022 debut at Slamdance Film Festival, running from January 27 through February 6, 2022. THE SEVERING is the best of two worlds from Mark as this is an experimental feature dance film that captures and evokes emotion and feelings through movement. As many may know, Mark is not only an acclaimed feature film director but also an award-winning music video director. THE SEVERING melds those disciplines with powerful imagery of dance (and color) that tells its own story, something unique and different that I found enthralling on watching. Take a listen as Mark and I dive deep into THE SEVERING and its visual power of body movement in translating the emotion of grief and the exploration into the journey of working through that grief and coming out on the other side, and how that is brought to life in the construct of THE SEVERING through the work of choreographer Nina McNeely, body painter Blake Armstrong, and cinematographer Evelin Van Rei. And then hold on to your hats as Grammy winner, YouTube sensation, and actor JOY VILLA, joins us talking about her new film THE CONTRAST. One of the most unique progenies for a film, THE CONTRAST is a contemporary adaptation by Chris Johnson of the very first professionally produced play in America, Royall Tyler's 1787 play "The Contrast." Regular #BTLRadioShow listeners will recall that Chris was on the show in June and gave us some tidbits on THE CONTRAST at that time, so I am so thrilled to now have seen the film and speak with the film's lead actress and executive producer JOY VILLA about it. A romcom that boasts charm, humor, and heart, with some very cool nods to the play's Colonial roots, Joy is a breath of fresh air and quite frankly, a joy to watch! Not just a producing title on the credits, Joy was very hands on in the production and the process of bringing THE CONTRAST to the screen and speaks not only to her character and the story, but delves into the script and working with Chris Johnson in developing the tone and modernization of the character, casting and chemistry, cinematography and working within the confines of the bed & breakfast location, incorporating the history of Colonial America into the production design, directors Sean Dube and Presley Paras, Joy's musical contribution with two tracks for the film, skeet shooting and so much more. http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com

"A gaudy yet grim science-fiction horror movie of such surpassing silliness, humorless intensity and stylistic overkill that watching it may actually put you in a state of paranoia. Why are these moviemakers persecuting us?" Michael Wilmington of the Chicago Tribune does not seem okay. However we are ESPECIALLY if it involves Richard Gere, America's greatest of the silver foxes. Pair him up for another entry in the Gere and Laura Linney two handers as they take on a giant bug that likes to make crank calls (and predictions) and what you've got is a film that Robert Altman only WISHES that he could have made. Thomas Sadoski, Thomas Mazziotti and Face2face host David Peck talk about The Mimic, socio-paths, loss, the old school, mental health issues, rapid fire dialogue, and why you need to keep ringing the bell.TrailerFind out more about the film here.Synopsis:Based on a true story, this clever, intriguing, and hyperbolic comedy follows the main character - the Narrator (Thomas Sadoski) who is befriended by his young new neighbor 'the Kid’ (Jake Robinson), after he joins the local newspaper team. Obsessed with the idea that the Kid may be a sociopath, the Narrator goes to extreme lengths to uncover the truth about him and his wife, a woman he ultimately begins to fancy.Between long walks down the street, a twisted dinner date, and a car drive gone terribly wrong, the Narrator gets closer and closer to the truth about the Kid. But the truth, as he finds, is anything but what he expected. "Sociopaths have been portrayed as a shady bunch up until now. Inspired by true events, this confrontational comedy explores the uncharted territory of the lighter side of a sociopath,” says Mazziotti. “I applaud Gravitas Ventures introducing audiences to an alternate character dynamic which has yet to be portrayed under comedic scrutiny on screen, yet he lives among us all.”About Thomas and Thomas:Thomas Sadoski will next star in the upcoming CBS series Tommy, which stars Edie Falco as the first female chief of police for Los Angeles. Equal parts political, procedural, and family drama, Tommy comes from Paul Attanasio, the creator of Bull and Homicide: Life on the Street. On the big screen, he was most recently featured alongside Shirley MacLaine and Amanda Seyfried in The Last Word, directed by Mark Pellington, and reprised his role as Jimmy in John Wick: Chapter Two, starring Keanu Reeves. He will next star in the independent comedy The Mimic, which also stars Jake Robinson, Gina Gershon and Jessica Walter, and will soon begin production opposite Lucy Liu in the romance drama, The Last Weekend in May, for director Matthew Lillard.A veteran of the stage, Sadoski most recently starred in the Public Theater production of the new Suzan-Lori Parks play, White Noise, directed by Oskar Eustis with Daveed Diggs. Over the course of his stage career, he has starred in and earned raves for his performances in a wide variety of Broadway and off-Broadway productions. The cinematic new music video for the track (directed by Mark Pellington, Sergio Pinheiro and Sweeten) is streamed here. In this episode, The Angel talks about her long career in the music, film and television industries, including work with The Pharcyde and many others. A Brooklyn native, she has established a unique voice as a woman in a male dominated industry, combining her skills as a record producer, recording artist (The Angel, 60 Channels), remixer and composer. Critically acclaimed for pioneering an eclectic sound, The Angel has had the opportunity to incorporate many diverse flavors into her records as well as TV and film compositions, since relocating to Los Angeles from her adoptive city of London. It was signing to record label, Delicious Vinyl, that brought The Angel to Los Angeles in the nineties. Her distinctive blend of hip hop, dub, jazz, soul and later drum ‘n bass into her recordings, led to her groundbreaking remixes for The Pharcyde, Blue Note’s Donald Byrd and productions for Grammy nominee, Mystic to name a few. And to this day, she is known for blending musical genres with a healthy dose of irreverence, using both traditional and more contemporary instrumentation. Featured on the cover of the LA Weekly, The Angel was described as “fiercely independent”… thinking outside the box creatively, while establishing herself as a trendsetter within the mainstream.

On today's episode of MUSE Live we welcome Cosmos Kiindarius the director of The Great Grass Race. Cosmos Kiindarius is a writer and director. His award winning short-films led him to his first feature film in 2016 Stand. A protégé of well-known director David Fincher, led Kiindarius to work with some of Hollywood’s top films such as Zodiac and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Currently Kiindarius is producing and directing a show unlike any other he has done before, Menace Vision’s The Great Grass Race. A race with 12 contestants divided into six teams as traveling in most unusually transportation to go from Los Angeles to New York – lawnmowers that only travel 5.5mphs. Kiindarius was born in Montego Bay, Jamaica and came to the United States as an infant. He grew up traveling across the country with his single mother. After graduating from Folsom High School, he once again traveled the world working odd jobs before ultimately finishing school at Chapman University Film School. While touring the campus of University of Southern California, acclaimed screenwriter, Len Schraeder, having read Kiindarius’ writing, pulled him aside and offered to mentor him if he would follow Schraeder to Chapman University. After the events of 9/11, Kiindarius was reminded of a childhood commitment and served his country by enlisting in the United States Navy. Between his military responsibilities, he worked extensively on feature films, commercials, and music videos with distinguished directors such as Marcus Nispel, Mark Pellington, Sean Thonson, JJ Abrams, and David Fincher. After losing a bet to Fincher in 2006, led Kiindarius to direct his first short film The Quickie, which went on to win eight awards on the film festival circuit. Shortly after, he went on to direct another award-winning short film Family Recipes. In 2015, he produced Debra Eisenstadt’s Before the Sun Explodes which premiered in competition at SXSW 2016 and then went on to produce Eisenstadt’s Imaginary Order. Through the course of his service with the Navy, Kiindarius discovered the urgent problem that land mines present for thousands of people around the world and wanted to produce Stand to help draw attention to the cause. Stand would become his first feature film where he wrote, produced, and directed. As a filmmaker, Kiindarius is drawn to stories rooted in real life that focus on the fringes of society, the marginalized people and issues that are forced from mainstream social consciousness by the safe and pedestrian topics that purposefully avoid challenging societal ideals. He is currently in development on several feature films including, Run Til Dawn and Irezumi and is attached to direct a short film The Americana in New York this summer as well as two features in the American Southwest Dirt and Comienzo set begin production fall of 2018. Easily one of my favorite BEHIND THE LENS shows, and a long time coming, we welcome a very special guest this week, director/writer/producer MARK PELLINGTON. Mark has previously done pre-recorded interviews for #BTLRadioShow but thanks to his always busy schedule, this is the first time we've been able to have him on live (and it won't be the last). To say this is an insightful - and fun - show would be an understatement. Nothing was off-limits for this seasoned directorial veteran. Take a listen as we cover everything from film criticism to cameras to casting to story to surviving as a filmmaker in this every-changing landscape and adapting to and embracing those changes, and so much more. While Mark expounds his thoughts on cameras and lenses ("It's all about the glass") and all the tools in the filmmaker's toolbox, his reflection on his earlier films contrasting that with his latest projects, is interesting and thoughtful. And how about the importance of music in a film? For all of the newer filmmakers out there, Mark has a sage perspective on movie reviews and criticism as well as approaching production. Plus, a fabulous anecdote about Jon Hamm, who starred in Mark's last film, NOSTALGIA. (Did I mention story?!) But the real highlight of the show is hearing about Mark's directorial trek into the world of STAR TREK with STAR TREK: TREK SHORTS, plus his upcoming new series on Jeffrey Katzenberg's Quibi, SURVIVE, which premieres on April 6th. So sit back and relax and spend an hour with MARK PELLINGTON on BEHIND THE LENS! http://behindthelensonline.net http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com

Both of these animated Short Treks were released Thursday, January 9, 2020. Some housekeeping… Our last episode was originally released on The Star Trek Picard Cast feed exclusively. Unfortunately, we noticed a sharp decline in downloads from the previous Picard episode that was very evident upon its release. First of all, we have some feedback on the last episode… We had feedback for the last episode about the other characters in Picard. More of that below. Errata! I made three mistakes in this episode, all in the same section of the episode. When I read over feedback from previous episodes, I said it was from STDP 047, but that was incorrect. In fact, I missed that feedback altogether. The feedback I read was from STPC 002, which I didn’t even mention that I was going to read! Bobbi Sue Luther is a one-of-a-kind multifaceted human. She’s loud, she’s relentless, and she’s a dear friend.   We’ve done two movies together MISS VIRGINIA starring Uzo Aduba which just premiered this year, and SYLVIE starring Tessa Thompson coming to a theater near you in 2020.   She has been a wonderful mentor and has taught me how to find my “inner Luther” aka fierceness. She doesn’t care what you think about her, but she does care about what you feel. She teaches with a firm, but kind hand.   And as Eva Longoria says, she’s a bulldog.   Born in Maryland, Bobbi was an ice cream maker and a firefighter before moving to LA in her early 20s. She enjoyed a long career in front of the camera as an actor and TV host before making the switch to producing.   True to her Bobbi nature, she dove right in and produced a music video for In This Moment called “A Beautiful Tragedy”, which was nominated in 2007 for Music Video of the Year on MTV’s Head Bangers Ball.   She eventually found her way into line producing, working on the horror film LAID TO REST, which went on to become the highest selling title of the year for Anchor Bay/Starz. The there was FEAR CLINIC which led to Bobbi’s nomination for the prestigious Producers Guild, Producer Challenge award.   She spent 4 years in house at the Oscar winning film production company Smokewood Entertainment where she operated as Producer on the slate and as the Executive in Charge of Production overseeing the highly anticipated family film “Judy Moody and the NOT Bummer Summer”, “Crazy Kind Of Love” starring Virginia Madsen and Smokewood’s Documentary and philanthropic effort “Amongst Brothers.”   Eventually, Bobbi jumped back into the freelance world where she is now. She has worked on A24’s THE LAST MOVIE STAR, Mark Pellington’s NOSTALGIA starring Ellen Burstyn, Jon Hamm and Catherine Keener, and the Edward James Olmo features THE DEVIL HAS A NAME, starring Alfred Molina and Kate Bosworth.   Phew! That’s a lot of credits in a short amount of time.   Like most producers, we all struggle with slowing down. In this week’s chat, we discuss how Bobbi has found a way to enjoy the ride, “feast or famine” of the freelance lifestyle, and imposter syndrome.   Beijos, Caca

Star Trek Discovery Podcast, featuring Picard and Lower Decks

Star Trek: Discovery – Short Treks, Season 2 Episode 1: Q&A We’re finally back! Ruthie and I are back with an episode of The Star Trek Discovery Podcast! And we are back for the first of six Short Treks before Star Trek: Picard premieres in January. This time, we talk through Q&A, which was written by Michael Chabon, and directed by Mark Pellington. We have launched The Star Trek Picard Cast! You probably saw that we released our first episode of The Star Trek Picard Cast to the feed! That’s a brand new podcast from Ruthie and me. We decided to launch it on a separate feed so that we can specialize in Discovery on this podcast and Picard on the new podcast. It also lets people who might not have given Discovery a chance to discover us, pun intended! Discover the Discovery trailer from New York Comic-Con… The episode begins with us discussing the trailer that was released at New York Comic-Con. We both loved it! It has a lot of ties back to the history of Trek. We see Andorians, Lurians (Morn’s species), Trill, Cardassians, and a few others we know. There’s a flag reminiscent of the Federation flag, with a lot fewer stars on it. We see time has passed. We see action, a future that may not be so bright, and a new character or two. Star Trek: Discovery – Season 3 NYCC Teaser Trailer Onto the Short Trek… This was a great character study of a young Ensign Spock, first arriving on the Enterprise, and meeting Lieutenant Commander Una, who is known better as Number One. There is a great exchange between them. Overall, this was a well-acted, well-written and well-directed Short Trek, with great performances by Rebecca Romijn and Ethan Peck. Those darn turbolifts!!! In a Short Trek that was a callback to TNG’s Disaster, Spock and Number One end up stuck in a turbolift. We see those darn insides of the Enterprise with vast chasms where the turbolifts are, much like the Discovery had, that many of us rolled our eyes over. Number One also sings the same song from Gilbert & Sullivan, the Major-General’s Song, that Laforge auditions with for the musical Dr. Crusher’s directing. In a new twist, I put on my nitpicker’s hat and pick on the fact that the uniforms were of the wrong era. You’ll be hearing more of this persona when we discuss the second Short Trek, The Trouble with Edward, next time! That’s it for Q&A! So, that’s it for this mini-episode! Ruthie seemed to love this episode a little more than I did, but I gave it a higher rating! Go figure. Remember to submit feedback for our next episode, covering the second Short Trek, S2E2 The Trouble with Edward. Our Facebook Woes We also talk about our recent problems with Facebook. You see, Ruthie and I recently got approved as affiliates for CBS All Access. We were testing a link over Messenger. Director Mark Pellington started off directing videos for Pearl Jam, U2, Michael Jackson and Bruce Springsteen, among many other musical icons (his video for Pearl Jam's "Jeremy" is one of the most popular videos of all time and earned him no end of awards). He moved on to films, directing, among others, Arlington Road, The Mothman Prophecies and I Melt With You, the latter a nihilistic drama about four friends who do more drugs than one might imagine possible and end up...well, you need to see the movie but let's just say the ending is darker than dark. Over the years, Pellington dealt with grief and addiction through the bottle (and the chemicals) but is now three-and-a-half years sober. In this episode, we talk about lying to your therapist about your sobriety, the way great art can help people feel less alone and how a Mayo clinic's comment can change your life, among many other topics.
