The LA Galaxy have played 11 matches and still have no wins after a 1-0 away defeat to Sporting Kansas City on Sunday, May 4, 2025. It was a match that the Galaxy should have won, but an own goal and sloppy finishing conspired to keep them from their first three points of the season. Not only did the Galaxy not win, but more bad luck befell them as DP players, Gabriel Pec and Joseph Painstil went down injured. We take a look at a historic night, why LA's offense is stuttering, and where the blame game needs to start. Is it time to start making major changes? Special Guest Dave Orona of LA is Our House. Democracy is breaking around us in real time and a small percentage of those in power would like us to become - at best - obedient subjects in a world dedicated to the destruction of ecosystems and the annihilation of compassion, empathy and all that makes us thrive. Clearly, we are better than this. So how can we harness the astonishing wonder of human co-creation in service to life and a world where humanity thrives as part of a flourishing web of life? This week's guest, Jon Alexander started off his professional life as a highly successful advertising executive - until the inherent contradictions in the Consumer narrative led him on a new path, to seeing people as Citizens in his words, 'people who actively shape the world around us, who cultivate meaningful connections to our community and institutions, who can imagine a different and better life, and who create opportunities for others to do the same.' This quotation comes from his book, Citizens: Why the Key to Fixing Everything is All of Us. It's is a genuinely Thrutopian view of possibility from one of the sharpest minds, and biggest hearts in this space of all potential and I wholeheartedly encourage you to read it - knowing that it came out three years ago - and the world has changed since then. When we first mooted this conversation over six months ago, we still thought Harris was going to win the US election, that democracy was stable and that - in Jon's words - we could affect change by creating acupuncture points in the system. And now we are where we are and none of these is possible. And yet, the cracks are where the light gets in and this is a time when we can abandon any belief that the old system is functioning any more. So what doors does this open? What new light is there at the end of the tunnel and how do we find the agency, motivation and connections to the people and places we love, to make the changes that need to happen if we're to create that future we'd be proud to leave behind? Jon is one of the people best placed to answer this. He's co-founder of the New Citizen Project which works to help organisations and businesses find ways to enhance Citizenship in all they do. And more recently, he helped found the Citizen Collective which we can all join and which holds regular online meetings to connect people who aspire to citizenship all around the world. This was a raw, honest conversation and neither of us is pretending we have all the answers. But we're exploring the ideas - and Jon brings such a wealth of experience to the table to open doors for all of us. I came away from this feeling that the routes forward are opening up. I hope you do, too. Early one August morning, the cameras outside Jas Arora's house in Abbotsford, B.C., recorded someone throwing glass bottles at his home. When Jas stepped outside to investigate, he found broken glass and smelled gasoline. He then got a call from a man speaking Punjabi, demanding millions of dollars.Jas is among many South Asian Canadians targeted by people who, the RCMP says, have connections to Indian gangs and the Indian government. They demand millions of dollars over the phone, and have targeted both homes and businesses. Many of the victims are scared to report what is happening to the police. This week on Storylines is CBC journalist Sohrab Sandhu's documentary Our House. His doc will delve into the threats and extortion targeting members of the South Asian community in Canada, and what Canadian law enforcement is trying to do about it. Jas Arora's life was turned upside down by phone calls from strangers demanding money and threatening violence if he didn't pay up. He's not alone. The CBC documentary Our House explores threats and extortion targeting members of the South Asian community in Canada, and why the RCMP alleges the criminals have links to India's government.
Post-election 2024 started out somber, weepy, and kind of hopeless for many of us. Thank goodness for my old pal, singer/songwriter/producer, Steve Postell. A long-time news junkie, he determined this day he was through. He pulled me and the rest of us out of the muck––back into the music, art, and the land of the living. We processed together a bit first and then shifted gears with Steve singing his My Parade, which perfectly spoke to his altered focus with an invitation for us to join him in acceptance, awareness, and gratitude of sorts. He segued into great stories––his relationship with David Crosby and how Our House came to be, The Immediate Family, awaiting a possible Grammy nom this week for their amazing Denny Tedesco doc, how they came to be, and where they are now––when Steve first became aware of the section backing James Taylor, the moment that opened the door to the full circle back around with all of them––being compared to Jackson Browne to befriending and working with hiim––teen art class with Bob Dylan to coming thisclose to playing with him––producing and playing with so many of his heroes, and them playing with him––his current solo record deal, upcoming show, more Our House dates to come, Immediate Family dates as schedules permit… life is rich, life is good, even if we're Walking Through These Blues––his spectacular song on his upcoming LP that he closed with. Steve and I go back to the heady days of the New York club scene in the 80s. I was booking the Rock 'N Roll Café on Bleeker Street, and Steve was fresh out of Pure Prairie League. I was RockStar struck. I booked him that day and have continued to for the past 35 + years wherever I went and whatever I did. When I had my book launch at The Federal in LA it was Steve's Night Train Music Club I went to. As he always does, he put together a most kick-ass jam band. A rotation of the best players on the planet, some of whom comprise, with Steve, The Immediate Family. That's another of Steve's ongoing passion projects. I went into this evening a semi-paralyzed mess. I leave uplifted, reminded that friendships, music, work, fun, love, and service will see me through. Thanks, Steve! I trust you saved more than me this night. Steve Postell Live on Game Changers With Vicki Abelson Wednesday, 11/6/24, 5 pm PT, 8 pm ET Streamed Live on my Facebook Replay here: https://bit.ly/4el9nU0
In 1968, singer and songwriter Graham Nash joined David Crosby and Stephen Stills to form the supergroup Crosby, Stills & Nash. All of them had already been in successful bands: Graham Nash had been in The Hollies; David Crosby was in The Byrds; and Stephen Stills was in Buffalo Springfield. The next year, Neil Young joined them, to make Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. The four of them released Deja Vu in 1970, and that album was a huge success. It sold over 8 million copies. Introduction Welcome to No Bodies Episode 40 Introductions to your Ghosts Hosts with the Most - Lonely of Lonely Horror Club and Projectile Varmint aka Suzie Happy Spooky Season from No Bodies! Introductions to our guest - Horror Heart aka Libby Roach Today's Topic: The Horror Alphabet Part Three Welcome Back to the 2nd Annual October Special on No Bodies! The Horror Alphabet - our longest watchlist to date, featuring bests, worsts, and deep cuts from every letter of the alphabet! This will be a blind reaction recording - which means none of the hosts are aware of what the others are bringing to the table. The only notes we will have prepared are the ones for our own recommendations. The Horror Alphabet Rules For films that begin with "The," the film will begin with the first letter of the first word following "The." Example: The Awakening would begin with the letter A. For films with multiple words in the title, the film will begin with the first letter of the first full word. Example: I See The TV Glow would begin with the letter I. For films that begin with a number in the title, the film will begin with the first letter of the first word. Example: 28 Days Later will begin with the letter D. We will not be including any films with titles made up of just numbers, like 1922. A pact to crowdsurf, the offer to sell a bootleg Rage Against The Machine T-Shirt for $20 at a food court in Long Island, and Greek tanning oil. Brian Schleyer (The Babies, First Bloom) "In 2008, Kevin Morby and Cassie Ramone shared a small apartment in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn for a few months and wrote some songs. After meeting again in a house party, the two decided to start a band. The idea was to recapture the early, stress-free days of playing music before they were both in groups that had gained some success and created accompanying pressures. Despite the intention, nothing much came of the idea until the next winter when both bands again had a break. Justin Sullivan, who had played with Ramone in Bossy, began practicing with them on drums, and The Babies debuted as a three-piece in March 2009 at Dead Herring, their friends' loft in Brooklyn. They played a few times before asking Nathanial Stark, formerly of Bent Outta Shape, to join on bass, and the full lineup's first shows were in that summer. The band released self-made tapes and singles for the small Wild World and Make a Mess labels before releasing their self-titled debut album for Shrimper in February 2011.They toured for much of the year, eventually replacing Stark with new bassist, Brian Schleyer. In early 2012, they left their Brooklyn home to record their second album in Los Angeles. Our House on the Hill was released on Woodsist late in the year." I don't need to change the world, As much as open my heart. And letting go of my need to be right, Is a very good place to start. ☉ Well, there are a couple of things to add to this week's Pele Report. The first is that Mercury is moving faster than I believe I have ever seen! He entered Gemini on June 4th and pops into Cancer on June 18th. That's only two weeks!! This reflects a time when we may be a little high spirited, things may be happening so fast we can't keep up, or we can be making swift progress bringing our plans into fruition. The big thing is that having both Mercury and Venus square Neptune before entering Cancer indicates the end of illusions prior to a "return to innocence." There may be disappointment around our dreams not coming to fruition (or completely falling apart) that humbles us and wakes up that inner child within. Just hang in there with your feelings, know they are informing you of your true needs so you can better meet them in the future and live a happier life! Blessings! This week's song, "Our House!" https://youtu.be/aunVlekXjkE?si=1p0cspDzTDJDomD2 So Much Love, Kaypacha ☉
