The one where we do womanly things now and worry about the rest later. It's been a while and we're purging the 2023 content we've been sitting on. This episode, we are joined by Austin singer-songwriter (and all around dope ass woman) Alesia Lani in a candid conversation about the music, the feels, and everything in between. Our to-the-point Topic of the Week segment is all about something we preach about so often - accountability. However, instead of just talking about the importance of holding ourselves and others accountable, @ogadriana outlines a bit about the psychology of accountability and the never-ending debate between determinism versus free-will. The one where we recap season one. As 2021 comes to a close, Adriana is feeling especially nostalgic and receptive to the energy of a new year. While recapping her last few personal weeks, Adriana rants about Instagram tarot coincidences, awkward funeral formalities, and family-centered holiday musings. Instead of a formal Topic of the Week, the segment's space is used as an ultimate recap of this crazy podcast. In an episode-by-episode recollection, we'll talk podcast challenges, favorite episodes, and plenty of other things (as 2021 has been INSANE). Thanks for everything, you guys. Talk to y'all on January 31, 2021!
The one where we identify and break all trauma bonds. On the second-to-last episode of this season of Organic, with OG Adriana, we not only recap the...umm...month in Adriana's personal life, but also talk tons of music, media, food, colonized holidays, and everything in between. From being able to finally spend a substantial time alone, to being ancestrally forced to cook a from-scratch feast, Adriana will reflect on the season's vibes and muses. This episode's Topic of the Week was inspired by none other than our exponentially over it, contradictory homegirl Summer Walker. While listening the violent ass lyrical content of "Still Over It," and contemplating the reasons we (generally speaking) are attracted to and often bond over traumatic cycles, it seemed fitting to explore the science behind trauma bonds. We'll define trauma and attachment in terms of traumatic bonding and aim to explore how trauma bonds form, how to recognize and mindfully reassess trauma bonds, and why we're attached to the idea of attaching to others via trauma similarities in the first place. To conclude, the OG Says segment serves as the friendliest reminder of one of the most important things you can do for yourself - keep your own damn promises! Because, girl. How will anyone trust you - and how will you be trusted to fulfill your destiny - if you can't trust yourself? Whew! And, finally, we'll talk ambition as the Energetic Climate calls us to affirm your purpose by tending to your goals and being mindful of capitalistic terms of success. That one episode where we chat with a GEN Z!
That one episode where we decolonize veganism. Hi Friends! On this week's episode of 'Organic, with OG Adriana,' the Topic of the Week explores four of the most controversial topics in the vegan community: Protein, supplements, soy, and whether or not veganism is truly supreme. In a breakdown of why these topics are so 'hot,' and of the polarization within the vegan community, this episode takes a look at the truths and myths within the conversation about this lifestyle. We'll examine peer-reviewed research on nutrition, discuss misconceptions, and explore the roll systemic racism plays in food access. To tie everything back into the podcast's theme of mindful consumption, we chat a bit about ways to be selective about what we ingest, as well as our body's need for wholeness rather than unattainable perfection when it comes to our diets. This week's OG Says segment pulls from yet another social media meme that coincides perfectly with the Topic of the Week. In this segment, Adriana tells a bit about her journey with checking privileges and reshaping what her call-to-activism looks like. We'll end with a gentle reminder (in the form of an affirmation card pull) that liberation isn't simply the lack of physical restraint, but rather a process that begins intentionally within our own minds. That one episode where we talk to Tha' MF Goddess! This week on 'Organic, With OG Adriana,' we are joined by another special guest - Licensed Massage Therapist, mama, and Vain Ass Virgo - Dominique! In a conversation about life, love, and navigating the two, Adriana and Dominique sat down together and had a hella candid, kitchen-table chat as girlfriends. From saggy white man-butts, to hidden USB cameras, Dominique takes us along as she recounts her journey to becoming a massage therapist and the twisted trials and invasion of boundaries she's endured in the industry. Diving into a conversation about responsible parenting, we discuss absent dads, childhood traumas, and self-love as an essential key to being able to pour into others. We talk parenting likes and dislikes, and describe the hard-but-necessary lessons learned along the way. Then, to end off the episode, we'll talk about a most beloved topic: THESE HOES.
The one where we decolonize the rhetoric behind abortion rights. This week's episode begins with a long ass recap of Adriana's whereabouts for the past several weeks. After taking a break from social media, social humans, and podcasting for a few weeks, we'll talk about the importance of resetting and truly utilizing solitude as a tool, opposed to a lonely burden. As "Social Summer," comes to a close, Adriana reflects on its lessons, and the hardships of getting out of her introverted element for a bit (and quickly running right tf back, because y'all are exhausting). The Things I'm Currently Ingesting segment this week feels like less of a mindful reflection and accountability tracker, but more of a pop culture critique of the week's past. While Adriana does recount some of the amazing plant based foods, drinks, and supplements that she's been ingesting, most of the segment is spent discussing everything from industry predators, incredibly stupid production moves, and her love-hate relationship with the artist whom shalt not be named (ahem, the title). In this week's Topic of the Week, we discuss the not-so-hot, hot topic of abortion rights and anti-abortion laws. Not only will we dive in to the history of the practice of abortion itself, but we also discuss the racist roots of its criminalization, and ways in which uterus-having folks can continue practicing autonomy over their bodies. To wrap up, this episode's OG Says segment touches on the importance of picking your battles and being mindful of the ways in which your friendly debates can escalated into circular arguments. That one where we ingest reality television mindfully. After spending the last few weeks working on and promoting her SXSW Panel Picker proposal, resting, reflecting, and getting tf organized, Adriana returns to the podcast mic to talk about several things that've been on her mind. In a recap of the weeks past, we'll talk current events and shed light on a few stories that affirm the lasting trauma of colonization and the importance on building community as a radical act of liberation (from the powers that be). This week's topic of the week is about many of our favorite guilty pleasure: reality television. Adriana will aim to explore the reasons people watch (and enjoy) reality television, what reality television watching tells about personality, and some ways to practice mindfulness when it comes to watching this type of programming. We'll discuss voyeurism, and its psychological connection to those who enjoy reality shows, Festinger's Social Comparison Theory, and the similarities (and key differences) between people who do watch and those who don't. In a short conversation about being mindful of the ways we judge others' journeys, the OG Says segment was inspired by the rare instance of coming across a thought-provoking meme. To close the episode and set the energetic tone for the week to come, Adriana intuitively chooses and reads a poem from one of her favorite books by Thich Nhat Hanh. ***PLEASE "VOTE UP" ON ADRIANA'S SXSW 2022 PANEL PICKER PROPOSAL!*** https://panelpicker.sxsw.com/vote/112265 Email us for questions, comments, and anything else at: organicwithog@gmail.com Follow Us! That one where we learn to listen to our guts (literally). WE BACK! Because, chile; at this point, what is a podcast schedule?! On this week's episode of "Organic: With OG Adriana," our topic of the week focuses on what is arguably the most important bodily network: The Digestive System. In a conversation centered around healing, Adriana breaks down the structure of the digestive system, its main functions, and the overwhelming importance of its overall health and functionality. We'll talk about what it means to have a healthy digestive system, the symptoms/disorders caused by digestion-go-wrong, and ways to initiate mental, physical, and spiritual healing to reverse disease. In a brief glance at spirituality, we break down the link between our emotions and digestion, and take a look at the Ayurvedic concept of "digestive fire," and the ways to keep it in its optimal state. To end the conversation about the digestive system, we talk a bit about manipura or the Solar Plexus chakra and discuss the ways in which this energy center is directly related to how we digest food - and life. In this week's 'OG Says' segment, Adriana throws it back to the days of Jada's entanglements, and talks age gaps in relationships, power dynamics, and predatory behaviors. That one where we decolonize cannabis.
This week, we are joined by techie-turned-personal chef, and Austin native Chelsea Ledbetter! In a candid (and funny af) conversation about entrepreneurship and the professional food industry, Adriana and Chelsea discuss the importance of self-care, patience, and planning to help seamlessly achieve your goals. Chelsea not only shares her journey to becoming a chef, but also the ways in which her catering business, Dirty South Bowl, came to fruition. We'll also dive into personal destiny, handling grief, and personal faith, and the ways that taking care of yourself through life's hardships are essential. We end the conversation with a look into the ways in which black women entrepreneurs are often overlooked and/or taken advantage of, and the way this fact has personally affected Chelsea and her business. The one where I chop it up with *THE* Skin Priestess. This week serves as a special Juneteenth episode of 'Organic, with OG Adriana!' Not only do we briefly chat about the history of Juneteenth, but, Adriana invites Jourdan Winstead-Hayes to the show to have a BLACK ASS discussion about beauty, pleasure, spirituality, and decolonizing wellness! A licensed esthetician, two-headed doctah', and your favorite Hoodoo's favorite Hoodoo, Jourdan joined our Organic family to talk...all the things. We dive into skincare, and the ways capitalism and the Beauty Industry has popularized unsustainable beauty practices, as well as religion, and the spiritual/ancestral liberation of "leaving" the Black Church. Join us in a candid conversation, where we explore personal identity, sexuality, and divine purpose/destiny. That one episode where we explain gentrification. This week, after spending a considerable amount of time driving through her old stomping grounds, Adriana decided to bring the podcast back to the research and discuss gentrification. We'll talk history, and the systemic policies were put into place that made communities vulnerable to gentrification. In addition to historical context, Adriana explains the interesting history of gentrification in her hometown, Austin, TX. We then move into discussing common patterns of city investment (and, in turn, disinvestment), and ways to identify, and eventually work to reverse gentrification. As per usual, Adriana has a lot to say; this week's 'OG Says' segment discusses some of our need to take on personalities that do not align with our authentic selves; we'll talk fake-deep, and the need to be perceived as "deep" in the first place. This episode ends with a reminder that we do not have to be active through every stage of life, and that the importance of stillness as an act of self-reflection, growth, and situational evaluation is just as important as “changing what you can change.” Sorry, #TeamNoSleep. This is yet another L for y'all.
That one where we talk music. This week on Organic, with OG Adriana, Adriana conducts a mini, music-themed Q&A with none other than...HERSELF.
That one episode where we chop it up with a nine-year-old. This week, on a special Mother's Day edition of 'Organic: With OG Adriana,' we ditched the Topic of the Week segment to have a candid conversation with Logan, Adriana's son! In a question-guided talk about parents, self-care, and joy, we enjoy a light conversation embedded between maternal cuddles, and goofy giggles. In recapping the week past, Adriana also discusses America's racist flaws, and the issue with black people obtaining positions of power within white systems, holding people accountable and being accountable within relationships, and how to raise your vibration to attract anything you desire. That one where we create healthy attachments. After two weeks of unstructured, lighthearted conversations Adriana decided to bring this week's episode back to the podcast's researchin', mental health roots. In a topic-of-the week centered around Attachment Theory, we discuss the history or the psychology of attachment, attachment styles, the "Big Six" things every child needs from their caregivers, and practical ways to heal attachment-based trauma. This week's OG Says segment consists of Adriana ranting about the situation that inspired the topic-of-the-week, and the importance of healing as a way to combat trauma-bonding and projecting. Danielle is a lover, a creator, a birth-worker, and my motherfucking sibling (by marriage, and spirit, and all'at)! Instead of a formal "Topic of the Week," Adriana wanted to lead a discussion centered around healing, authenticity, and mindful consumption as it pertains to her super-human guest. We laugh a whole lot, cry a little, and talk about everything from sex deprivation to co-parenting. Join us in a conversation about self-care, decolonization, finding your identity outside of motherhood, the keys to longevity in relationships, and so much more! FIND DANIE!!
