Nate Tarver's first day of work as a police officer in Moore, Oklahoma would leave him shocked and stunned when one of his coworkers referred to him as a nigger with a gun over forty years ago when he was issued his uniform. In an age when diversity wasn't appreciated or fully accepted, Nate was the only African American officer in a department that wasn't ready for inclusiveness. That day changed Nate forever as he would begin an uphill battle to establish himself as a peacekeeper and servant of the people. He made it his purpose to be recognized as a great officer based on his character, dedication and commitment to the people of Oklahoma and not his color, race, or ethnic background. His goal has always been to be an extension of the hand of GOD and exhibit peace, solidarity, and hope to all races and cultures. That goal would be tested when the leader of the Klu Klux Klan (who hated Nate) would need him to testify on his behalf. Find out what Nate did on the latest episode of The Movement with Mongo!

Few things compare to losing a loved one. Yes, even followers of Jesus Christ experience the excruciating pain of grief and loss. But on this episode of The Verdict, Pastor John Munro reminds us that followers of Jesus do not grieve as others do. We have a living hope, an eternal hope, grounded in the unchangeable promises of God .
The Gospel of Jesus Christ brings a message of hope and eternal salvation to those who follow Christ. But that doesn't mean that we are exempt from loss and suffering. On this episode of The Verdict, Pastor John Munro discusses the terrible pain of grief, and why a living hope makes all the difference.
Follow The Healer Series: Christ is our Living Hope Part 2Philippians 2:5-11 and 1 Corinthians 2:9-10, 16.There's nothing quite like tearing off the last page of a calendar and turning to a new year. It brings a clean slate, offering a new start with fresh possibilities. New Year's resolutions will abound. New habits will be attempted. Once again, we will aspire to put our best foot forward. But before we do that, let's remind ourselves of our back story. It's an all too human thing to want to be better and to strive for more. We are created in the image of God. The inconvenient truth is that our ancient ancestors determined that bearing the image of God was not enough. They wanted to be God. They were reaching to be God's equals. And maybe that's our problem—reaching. Isn't that where things went wrong? When our ancestors reached for the forbidden fruit. It wasn't an apple they were reaching for. They were reaching for equality with God. They wanted to be their own god. Then and now, sooner or later, it always leads to epic failure. You see, by definition, God has no equal. We've been doing it ever since. That's the essence of sin—not trusting in the trustworthy goodness of God. The minute we do that we set out on a course to find another god or worse, to become our own god. We make great humans, but terrible gods. And when we set out on a course to find other gods, we can actually become quite terrible humans. We were not made to reach for God, but to bow before him. That's the one place where we discover that God was reaching for us all along. That's who Jesus is—the one who reaches to us, right where we are. Not only does He reach us, He restores his glorious image in us and remakes us into the people He created us to be in the first place. In short, He reminds us to think like God thinks and to act like God acts and to love like God loves.Grace and Peace,Stephen

Even though Christmas is all about celebrating the “Light of the world,” Jesus Christ, it can also be a challenging, even dark, season for some. As Luanne and Mary Ann discuss in this episode, if we'll use the powerful weapons Christ-followers have been given, we can defeat enemies like loneliness, stress and despair and allow the hope-filled light of Christ fill our hearts and minds. As Luanne says, “When darkness invades light, we've got a spiritual battle going on; when light invades darkness, we've got a spiritual victory going on.” Luanne's newest book, “Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God,” is available for order through her website (see below) and on amazon.com, as is Mary Ann's book, “Live. Learn. Laugh!” You can learn more about Luanne and Mary Ann, order the books they've written, and read Mary Ann's newspaper columns on their websites: www.luannebotta.com and www.maryanncrum.com . December 10, 2023 Studies have shown that 62% of people's stress levels are “very” elevated during Christmas time. What? How does the season that trumpets words like “love,” “joy,” and “peace” also produce more worry? Listen in as we talk about Christ's invitation to a life beyond the worries that plague our daily lives. As you listen in, you will be: 1. Challenged to see that where we worry the most is where we trust God the least 2. Encouraged to see God's care for birds and flowers as small but mighty reminders of how much he cares for us!
In week 3 of our Advent series, we spend some time meditating on Luke 2:8-20 as the shepherds receive good tidings of great joy. As we explore the gift and power of joy, let's pause to consider what the Lord has made known to us, so we may in turn make known the joy of our salvation to others.
The Thrill of Hope Pt.2 Pastor Lisa 12/10/23
December 3, 2023 Many of us might be surprised to see that the first Christmas was prefaced with some real people with real stories of hopelessness. You could say that hope was a rare commodity back then. And hey, I think people feel that way now. But that's why Christmas and the Gospel is so imperative. We are people of hope! And so we want to lean into a story where hope interfaces with our expectations and reality, as we learn from Pastor Mike Quinn. As you listen in, you will be: 1. Challenged to remain faithful to God in seasons of waiting 2. Encouraged to listen for God to provide a word of hope in the midst of this season

Romans 8:26-27
Mary Ann and Luanne wrap up their deep dive into the topic of hope by discussing the familiar promise of Romans 8:28, the enigmatic man in the Bible who waited 38 years beside a pool for healing, the danger of embracing victimhood, the stages of hopelessness, and how to dig ourselves out when we're in that dark pit. (Baking cakes and eHarmony may have come up.) While Mary Ann is by the bedside of her husband, who is hospitalized after a terrible accident, the ladies are reposting some of their favorite episodes from the past. Mary Ann and Luanne also share some heart-wrenching experiences that threatened to permanently steal their hope … but didn't. Luanne's newest book, “Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God,” is available for order through her website (see below) and on amazon.com, as is Mary Ann's book, “Live. Learn. Mariah and her twin sister, Amanda, had dreams. They planned to attend Bible college after graduating from their Christian high school, then pursue ministry. But at 17 years old, Mariah became pregnant and those plans changed. At age 18, she gave birth to a beautiful daughter, then six months later she was married. Before long, her husband's career took him away from home all week while she was caring for children and battling depression. Alone, caring for four children, with no one to talk to, and drifting from God, Mariah was becoming desperate. Her emotional needs were not being met. Then she began receiving the attention she desired. They began texting one another and she soon found herself in an extra-marital affair. Life was spinning out of control and divorce was inevitable.Mariah and Amanda join us in Part 2 of this episode. They each discuss this story of a broken marriage, broken lives, and a broken family. The end of the story is still being written, but redemption is where God met them all.Mariah had divorced and expected to feel a newfound freedom. Surprisingly, that was not the case.Had God turned His back on her? Had she sinned enough that she had no hope of redemption? She began to recognize the hurt that she had caused to her children and so many others. Could her life turn around? This episode is for anyone who thinks God cannot redeem them because of their past. It's difficult to watch HBO's new hit dystopian drama THE LAST OF US without being reminded over and over again of Alfonso Cúaron's CHILDREN OF MEN, and for good reason: the video game on which the series is based was openly inspired by Cúaron's 2006 film. That's most explicit in the series' central relationship between a hardened, cynical survivor (Pedro Pascal's Joel) and a young woman who holds the key to reversing humanity's misfortune (Bella Ramsey's Ellie), but Cúaron's film echoes through the series in other ways both broad (depictions of a totalitarian government and violent resistance) and specific (unexpectedly early character exits). We dig into several of those links after a discussion of how THE LAST OF US's first five entries — in particular its dazzling third episode — distinguish this series from its most explicit reference point and the many other post-apocalyptic narratives that came before. And if that's not enough well-wrought intergenerational dystopian drama for you, Genevieve has a suggestion for another recent series to check out in Your Next Picture Show. HBO's new dystopian TV series THE LAST OF US is an adaptation of a dystopian video game that was inspired in part by Alfonso Cuarón's dystopian film CHILDREN OF MEN, a strikingly timely 2006 thriller whose consideration of cynicism and hope at the world's end has only grown more timely in the intervening years. So we're returning to the source of this cross-medium journey through apocalyptic hellscapes, in a conversation about how and why Cuarón's film continues to resonate, from its efficient worldbuilding and nuanced politics to its well-wrought humor and visceral filmmaking style. Plus, an alternate pairing suggestion in Feedback inspires some live brainstorming of a hypothetical COCAINE BEAR episode.
