Just One Q with Dr. Melissa Horne
Visual Storytelling and an ADHD Perspective | Scott Mooney

Just One Q with Dr. Melissa Horne

How can ADHDers thrive at work? Navigating the workplace with ADHD presents unique challenges, but it also offers a distinct set of strengths and perspectives. Unlocking our best work can require a tailored approach: “gamifying” mundane tasks, offloading cognitive weight to digital tools, and finding unconventional ways to manage energy, focus, and time. When combined with foundational self-care, these strategies can transform perceived limitations into powerful creative assets. The strategies themselves often become valuable contributions to the wider team. For instance, visual storytelling can help an ADHD mind retain complex information and, at an organizational scale, that same approach becomes a pillar of an inclusive, high-impact communication strategy. On this episode of Just One Q, Dominique chats with guest Scott Mooney, an award-winning educational illustrator with over 30 years of experience. Scott shares candidly about his late diagnosis of ADHD, his specific strategies for self-management and productivity, and how visual storytelling can bridge communication gaps in the workplace. ▷ Work with LolaThe Lola System™ 90 不是讓你更會處理情緒,而是讓你在一個不需要再撐、不需要再切斷身體反應的場域裡, 完成那些你一個人走不完的循環。 ▷ Connect with LolaWebsite|https://lolalinocean.com Instagram|https://www.instagram.com/lolalolalin LinkedIn|https://www.linkedin.com/in/lolalin

Emotional Intelligence, Intuition and Self Regulation in Modern Life with Jess Cameron

In this episode, I sit down with Emotional Intelligence expert Jess Cameron to explore a skill many of us were never taught - how to understand and regulate our emotions. Most of us were taught how to achieve, perform and push through discomfort. But very few of us were taught emotional awareness, emotional regulation or how to communicate what we're actually feeling. Jess breaks down what emotional intelligence really means in practical terms. It's not about being overly emotional or “soft.” It's about self-awareness, nervous system regulation, and developing the ability to respond intentionally instead of reacting from old patterns. We also explore intuition - that quiet inner voice that often gets drowned out by mental noise, stress and overthinking. Jess shares a pivotal year in her life where she chose to follow her intuition in every decision, even when it defied logic. That experiment reshaped her career and became the foundation of her work as a mindset and emotional intelligence coach. This conversation goes deep into modern relationship dynamics, including masculine and feminine energy, emotional suppression in men and the desire for emotional depth in women. We discuss how emotional safety impacts intimacy, communication and connection - and why emotional regulation is essential for healthy relationships, effective leadership and personal growth.Jess shares practical insights on: • EQ vs IQ • How to regulate emotions in high-pressure situations • The role of intuition in decision making • Masculine and feminine dynamics in modern relationships • Parenting with emotional awareness • Why anger is not bad - but mismanaged anger isAt its core, this episode is about building emotional resilience and self-trust. Because you cannot regulate what you refuse to acknowledge. And when you develop the skill of emotional regulation, everything shifts - your leadership, your relationships, your confidence and your sense of self.If you want to strengthen your emotional intelligence, build better relationships, and respond with clarity instead of reacting from habit, this conversation will meet you exactly where you are.Inside this podcast:- Why emotional intelligence is more than a soft skill- How intuition gets drowned out by mental noise- Why you cannot regulate emotions you avoid- The tension between masculinity, femininity and emotional depth- How awareness allows you to respond instead of reactConnect with Jess:Instagram  → https://bit.ly/3ZGbKMv Website → jesscameron.com Connect with Steve:Instagram → https://bit.ly/3KARQhR LinkedIn  → https://bit.ly/48sw8Vj Episode Highlights00:00:00 - Episode Trailer00:02:30 - Emotional intelligence beyond buzzwords00:05:00 - Observing thoughts and separating identity from mind00:07:00 - Fine tuning intuition like a radio frequency00:10:00 - Listen to the whisper or face the sledgehammer00:12:00 - The career defining moment of saying no00:15:00 - Following intuition despite fear00:18:00 - IQ versus EQ and the limits of logic00:20:00 - Judging intentions versus judging actions00:24:00 - Emotional intelligence in conflict00:28:00 - Masculine and feminine energy explained00:32:00 - Why emotions were labeled as weakness00:35:00 - Regulation versus suppression00:38:00 - Invalidation disguised as positivity00:41:00 - How men shut down in relationships00:45:00 - Creating safe emotional space00:49:00 - Awareness as the key to personal growthABOUT THE PODCAST SHOWThe Noise of Life is a podcast that shares real stories, raw truths, and remarkable growth. ▷ Work with LolaApply for The Lola System™ 90 https://lolalinocean.com/apply這是一個邀請制的入口,為「準備好真正改變,但不想再撐」的女性而設。▷ Connect with LolaWebsite|https://lolalinocean.com Instagram|https://www.instagram.com/lolalolalin LinkedIn|https://www.linkedin.com/in/lolalin

Even when you know "what to do" (theoretically) in a volatile, challenging and/or emotional situation - especially with loved ones - good luck with the "execution" of that knowledge when your prefrontal cortex gets hijacked by your amygdala. That is, when your emotions take over your body and your ability to think clearly and be the calm in the chaos goes out the metaphoric window. Depending on the situation, I could be relatively smart right down to being the dumb-arse in the corner crying into his protein shake. Bobby, Tiff and I opened this conversational door and quite a few others in this episode of TYP. Also, someone whose name rhymes with vague may have gotten a little emotional. Telling yourself the truth might be the most radical leadership skill you'll ever develop.   In part three of the Emotional Self-Regulation for Leaders series, Sarah Lockwood is joined by Beck Sydow and Marina Suholutsky for a conversation about the power of radical self-honesty in leadership. They explore how self-awareness for leaders isn't just about introspection but a foundational strategy for building resilient businesses, leading aligned teams, and navigating high-stakes decisions with integrity.   Beck and Marina reveal how easy it is for entrepreneurs to hide from their own truths, especially when fear, ego, or pressure to perform take over. They unpack how avoidance and overcompensation often mask deeper insecurities and explain why facing those hidden parts with compassion is key to true emotional self-regulation. When leaders name what's really going on without judgment, they create space for better decisions, stronger relationships, and more authentic leadership.   This episode offers a powerful reframe: self-honesty isn't weakness, but actually one of the most courageous and transformative skills you can build.   Episode Breakdown: 00:00 Why Radical Self-Honesty Is a Leadership Skill 02:56 How Your Relationship with Yourself Shapes Your Leadership 04:49 Embracing All Parts of Yourself to Build Self-Awareness 06:03 Coping Mechanisms That Lead to Dishonest Leadership 10:03 The Hidden Relief in Facing Hard Truths 14:07 Practicing Compassionate Accountability 17:59 Sovereignty, Self-Honesty, and Emotional Self-Regulation 21:32 Practical Tools to Strengthen Self-Honesty 25:02 Emotional Mastery for Leaders   Links Connect with Beck Sydow: Connect with Beck on LinkedIn  Humankind Business Leaders   Connect with Marina Suholutsky: Connect with Marina on LinkedIn  PurposeBuilt   Connect with Sarah Lockwood: Connect with Sarah on LinkedIn Visit HiveCast   Connect with The Conscious Entrepreneur: Visit The Conscious Entrepreneur website  Follow The Conscious Entrepreneur on LinkedIn Follow The Conscious Entrepreneur on Instagram  Subscribe to The Conscious Entrepreneur on YouTube   HiveCast.fm is a proud sponsor of The Conscious Entrepreneur Podcast.   Podcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm

Curiosity is the leadership skill that helps you regulate your nervous system, interrupt fear loops, and make conscious choices in real time.   This episode is part 2 of the Emotional Self-Regulation for Leaders series, where Sarah Lockwood is joined again by Marina Suholutsky, the founder of PurposeBuilt, and Beck Sydow, the founder of HumanKind Business Leaders, to discuss how curiosity plays an important role in nervous system regulation and managing emotions. They break down how fear contracts our experience and narrows our view, while curiosity invites expansion and presence. When leaders learn to pause and ask questions like “What else is true?” or “What story am I telling myself right now?”, they create access to agency, opening up space to shift out of reactivity and into conscious, grounded response.   Marina and Beck offer tools that don't require time away from work or structured rituals. These moments of emotional awareness can happen mid-meeting, mid-sentence, or mid-meltdown. Whether it's noticing your peripheral vision, softening your tone, or naming what's happening in the room, curiosity becomes a live practice that leaders can use to stay connected to themselves and others. The discussion also explores how modeling this curiosity builds team trust and strengthens leadership presence. We've been taught that pain requires a target. Someone hurt you, so you hurt them back. Someone triggers you, so you defend yourself. The cycle repeats until you're chronically inflamed and physiologically worn down. But what if the problem is that you're treating your nervous system like it has to fight every battle you're invited to?Pain is information. Inflammation is a signal. That tightness in your chest when you get a certain kind of text message is your body reporting that something needs attention. Not retaliation. Attention. The culture trains you to look outward for resolution. Closure from the person who hurt you. Validation from the person who triggered you. Apologies, explanations, admissions of guilt. But none of that actually heals the physiological response you're having in real time. None of it stops the cortisol. None of it regulates your nervous system.Self regulation means recognizing that lashing out when you're in pain just adds another layer of damage. Knowing this, healing yourself first becomes structurally necessary. This episode covers why modern serial dating creates repeated chemical bereavement, how to redirect attack energy into healing energy, and why the “little you” inside deserves protection even when no one else is listening.Full episode: So You're Living in a Simulation podcast. Fear isn't the enemy of great leadership. Ignoring it is.   How often do you walk into a meeting already bracing for impact? Or catch yourself shrinking back in a moment where you meant to lead with clarity? Sarah Lockwood sits down with Beck Sydow, the founder of HumanKind Business Leaders, and Marina Suholutsky, the founder of PurposeBuilt, for a conversation on emotional self-regulation, fear in business, and the kind of inner work that makes better leadership possible.   They explore how fear lives in the body, how it shows up in the boardroom, and why most founders are still operating from old survival patterns without realizing it. You'll hear why simply pushing through isn't a strategy and how learning to notice your internal state (tight shoulders, shallow breath, reactive thinking) can open the door to more aligned decisions. Beck and Marina walk through tools for getting out of autopilot, including body scans, self-inquiry, and what they call “active choice,” the skill of pausing just long enough to shift out of fear and back into presence.   This doesn't just explain why inner work matters. It shows you how to begin. Diverse Thinking Different Learning

We happily welcome Dr. Allie Ticktin to Diverse Thinking Different Learning! Dr. Ticktin is dedicated to helping children and their families thrive through sensory-based play, having founded Play 2 Progress and writing Play to Progress, introducing parents to all eight senses and offering practical ways to support them at home. Blending child development science with playful learning, Dr. Ticktin focuses on building kids' confidence and supporting their growth across emotional, social, physical, and academic areas. At the core of her philosophy is the belief that empowering parents from the very beginning is the best way to set children up for lifelong success! Throughout our conversation, we explore the topic of sensory processing and sensory motor integration - often misunderstood but nevertheless foundational to how children learn, regulate, and thrive. Dr. Ticktin, an occupational therapist and author, explains that sensory processing involves more than just the five basic senses, that there are actually eight senses that children need to effectively process, including the "hidden" senses of vestibular, proprioceptive, and interoceptive! Dr. Ticktin highlights the fact that sensory issues are not simply behavioral problems but are rather neurological differences in how a child's brain processes sensory information. This can manifest in various ways, from being overly sensitive to certain textures to having trouble regulating emotions and attention. She stresses the importance of reframing these challenges as differences in sensory processing, rather than just automatically resorting to labeling them as "bad behavior." As we discuss, an especially important part of supporting children with sensory needs is teaching them to recognize and communicate their needs, and Allie discusses "body tools" - often referred to as fidget spinners or sensory toys - and how empowering children to identify and use whatever tools help them self-regulate can dramatically improve their ability to focus, learn, and interact socially. Our discussion also covers how sensory integration therapy can positively affect not just motor skills but also social-emotional functioning, with Dr. Ticktin reflecting on how she has seen children learn to self-regulate and even start advocating for their sensory needs and those of their peers. Our discussion provides you with a comprehensive overview of sensory processing, its importance in child development, and effective strategies for supporting children with sensory needs via a collaborative approach based on children's strengths!   Show Notes: [2:29] - Sensory processing involves eight senses, not just tactile experiences such as messy play. [5:10] - Dr. Ticktin argues that a child's sensory system forms the unseen "roots" supporting all higher developmental skills. [7:05] - Some kids struggle to filter irrelevant sensory input, resulting in classrooms feeling overwhelming. [9:08] - Dr. Ticktin points out that many "bad behaviors" actually stem from unsatisfied sensory needs. [11:28] - Dr. Ticktin explains how "body tools" can help children self-regulate, reducing behavioral issues via sensory support. [13:30] - Sensory inputs can raise or lower excitement depending on how the child processes them. [17:38] - Misread behaviors in daily tasks might signal underlying sensory-motor challenges. [18:22] - Hear how sensory issues can appear as rough play, clumsiness, withdrawal, or shutdowns. [21:09] - Dr. Ticktin argues that self-regulation often crosses over with sensory needs. [24:49] - Young kids may tantrum from sensory overwhelm because they lack the language to explain their feelings. [25:12] - Dr. Ticktin explains how teaching kids to "empty their bucket" prevents overload, very similar to adults managing stress. [28:33] - Learn how play-based therapy strengthens sensory foundations with purposeful activities appearing as simple play. [31:54] - Excessive screen time limits ideation, rendering open-ended, unscheduled play especially important for development. [33:25] - Consistent family involvement is so important, since progress relies on using tools beyond therapy sessions. [36:14] - Dr. Ticktin encourages listeners to buy her book. Nine Simple Practices That Strengthen Relationships Summary In Episode #99 of the Human Intimacy Podcast, Dr. Kevin Skinner and MaryAnn Michaelis celebrate their 99th episode by sharing nine powerful practices couples can use to strengthen connection, deepen trust, and build meaningful intimacy. Each principle is grounded in years of clinical experience, neuroscience, and relationship research—while remaining practical and accessible for real-life relationships. Together they explore why emotional safety is the foundation of all connection, the importance of ownership over blame, and how consistent attunement builds emotional closeness. They emphasize spending intentional time together, rebuilding trust through small daily actions, learning to emotionally regulate before communicating, and facing—not avoiding—conflict. They also highlight how positive relational interactions nurture bonding and why dreaming and planning for the future together creates shared hope and purpose. Listeners are encouraged to start small, picking one area to work on, knowing that meaningful relationships are built one intentional step at a time. In this deeply vulnerable solo episode, Darin dismantles one of the great myths of modern self-help: that transformation is something you're meant to "do alone." Drawing from neuroscience, anthropology, physiology, and personal experience, he reveals the biological truth — the human nervous system is designed to heal, grow, and stabilize in relationship, not isolation. This conversation explores why loneliness creates physiological damage, why belonging is a survival requirement (not a luxury), and how to intentionally rebuild the village your cells have been waiting for. If you've ever felt like you're doing all the "inner work" but still feel disconnected, this episode is the medicine.     What You'll Learn in This Episode 00:00:00 - Opening SuperLife intro narration. 00:00:32 - Sponsor: Therasage — family-driven healing technology, infrared and natural frequency support, details on discount. 00:02:11 - Darin begins the episode — "You were never meant to do this alone." 00:02:22 - The forgotten biology of community and why humans are not built for isolation. 00:03:01 - Your nervous system regulates in relationship — the vagus nerve, safety, co-regulation. 00:03:19 - Social engagement system — coherence, cortisol regulation, belonging as biology. 00:04:03 - Social pain = physical pain; the Baumeister research; the architecture of human connection. 00:05:01 - Tribes, proximity, shared life — Dunbar's number and the limits of real human networks. 00:05:30 - Loneliness as physiology — cortisol elevation, inflammation, disrupted sleep, gray-matter changes. 00:07:01 - Personal growth was never meant to be personal — autonomy, competence, relatedness, love. 00:07:55 - If nobody sees you, your nervous system can't relax — mirrors vs willpower. 00:08:31 - Social contagion of behavior — your network shapes your health. 00:09:01 - Who are you wired into? How Journaling Activates Your Brain for Resilience and Self-Regulation 'ask dorothy' The WISDOM podcast  Season 5  Episode 108 ~ I've always expressed to clients, the importance and therapeutic benefit of writing as a practice for  being able to process and understand an experience and to find answers and comfort in what is called expressive writing.   When you write about your feelings, research from brain scans show us that the prefrontal cortex (the region of the brain responsible for reasoning) begins to synchronize with the amygdala (which is the region of the brain that processes emotions.) Journal writing is this tool that allows the brain to be able to both communicate and understand. Here I share the five forms of journaling together with what happens in the brain (and for you) as you experience their positive affects. Please reach out to me  if you would like my help in using journaling as a tool for healing, for resilience and self-regulation. Namaste

In this episode, Chris and Kevin dig into one simple, but powerful habit for lowering stress and thinking more clearly: speaking your thoughts out loud or writing them down. While breaking down why talking out loud or writing your thoughts is one of the simplest ways to regulate stress. They explore:-How naming emotions activates the prefrontal cortex and quiets the stress response-Why unspoken problems drain mental energy and keep your brain in “swirl mode”-How externalizing thoughts creates clarity and frees up cognitive load-A comparison to the double-slit experiment: unspoken problems = probability cloud; speaking/writing = collapsing it into focus-How this process returns you to awareness, reminding you that you're not your problem, you're the observer of your problemAs always, they end the episode with a practical tool you can use right away to start applying this into your life.

Today I have an incredible interview with Justine Stull. Justine is one of the admins on my Heal with Nicole and Nicole Sachs Support Circle communities. She's been with us for a few years, and she's just so wise. There's nothing like sitting with someone who has really walked through the work herself and now takes other people through with her beautiful guidance and caring comments on our pages. Today, Justine and I are going to be talking about her own chronic pain journey and all of the impactful practices she's gathered along the way - with a focus on self-compassion and self-regulation. One of my favorite things she says in the beginning is, "The first thing to leave was the fear." That's a great place to start! Enjoy this conversation filled with so many gold nuggets! XOXO n. In a digital world saturated with questionable dating advice from self-proclaimed gurus, Dr. Max Butterfield has emerged as a powerful and refreshing voice of reason. A professor with a Ph.D. in psychology, Max never intended to become a social media star. Tasked by a literary agent to simply build a small online presence for a book deal, he accidentally tapped into a massive cultural nerve, dissecting viral relationship videos with research-backed clarity and amassing over a million followers in just a few months. His journey is a testament to the power of authentic expertise, proving that in a sea of misinformation, people are desperately searching for grounded, scientific truth to navigate the complexities of human connection. This conversation is a masterclass in the psychology of modern relationships, going far beyond surface-level tips to explore the deep undercurrents shaping how we connect today. Dr. Butterfield breaks down why the "paradox of choice" fueled by dating apps makes us treat people as disposable and how these platforms are financially incentivized to keep you single . He and Darin dive into the critical difference between initial physical attraction and the values that predict long-term happiness, the truth about "soulmates," and the foundational skills—like managing conflict, building safety through mutual disclosure, and simple kindness—that are essential for growing a healthy, lasting partnership.
