Welcome to the finale of the Permission to Practice season. In 30 minutes we talk stagnancy, perspective, to-do's, emotional weight, letting go and easing into the excitement of 2020. We also talk navigating the grief that struck my life towards the end of year, changing course, feeling fraudulent, flow, and the creative process We round out with the impact of these interviews, and what permission to practice has come to mean to me after a year of exploring for myself and with others.
Marilene Caetano took refuge inside her journal as a little girl and as an angsty teenager but eventually walked away. But, when her daughter was 6 months old, Marilene realized she'd reached her capacity to numb and came back to the page. Armed with her innate curiosity and what she’s learned about our brain’s ability to rewire itself, today, her journal practice is how she stays present, grounded and in communion with herself. Journaling she says, has invited her to trust herself and her unfolding path.
Sara Clark spent most of her time on her babysitter’s dairy farm. When she wasn’t getting lost in the woods, playing pretend or reading fiction, she was journaling- about everything she felt, desired and dreamed. Despite how much she loved the practice, it came to a halt for many years and she thanks therapy for bringing her back to the page. Now, this newly married, mother of one, shares how taking better care of herself is a promise she intends to keep and why journaling is at the core of that mission.
VerseAnnete Blackman-Bosia grew up with a love for words and was instantly hooked when introduced to journaling. As a sensitive soul, her journal offered her a solace she never found with others. For over 30 years she has processed every feeling on the page. From motherhood, to losing her brother, all the way through navigating the edges of her own mental health diagnosis; Armed with a pen in her hand, Verse proves the infinite opportunities writing can give you, when you willingly accept the invitation.
Meg Kissack is a perfect example of how a journal practice doesn’t have to follow any kind of rules or regimens for it to be a beneficial tool in your life. From words to paint, to postcards; from forgiveness to learning how to face yourself, Meg shares the ups, downs and turnarounds of her practice, and how she has learned to keep showing up. Life is a practice she says and with hefty dose of curiosity she journals, when she wants to, how she wants to and lets herself feel proud every step of the way.
Shrin Eskandani may have dabbled with diaries as a young girl but journaling wasn't always something she believed in. Today, Shirin tells and lives a different story. Journaling, she says, has taught her how to navigate her life’s intentions with curiosity and self compassion. In her eyes, her journals are her dear friends, and help her discern the difference between impulse and intuition; a practice she counts on to re-center herself and remember what she truly wants and needs right her and now.
Vienda Maria’s upbringing didn’t really give her a safe space to process her feelings and it wasn’t until she found journaling that she felt she could. Now many moons later despite her not so positive introduction to journaling, she shows up for her practice despite its seasons because she believes in the strength of defining consistency for yourself. Journalling has helped her broaden her perspective, process and connect to her intuition, honor what she’s been through and then let it all go. *show notes & resources*

Lauren and every bit of her introverted extrovert Virgo nature speak to my heart. Yelena is one of the only people I was following for a really long time before reaching out to ask her to be on the show. Inspired by a quote I found months ago, in this week's solo cast I'm talking about the idea of empty can receive and how it has become an integral part of my reflective practice especially when I face resistance, overwhelm or confusion. I talk about how letting go and containers play their role in this conversation. I also share two recent experiences to show how this idea can play out in a concrete and an abstract way, what I really think it's inviting us to do and one question that could prompt your own exploration with it. This episode is perfect for anyone who feels ready to invite the new into their lives, finds themselves hesitant to surrender to the unknown and wants to do it in her own way. bit.ly/quietbrave15
Marisa is the kind of energy we need in this world. Having spent many years unsure who who she was, what she wanted and how to make that happen her story is so easy to relate to because who here hasn’t felt left behind or at one time or another, utterly lost. For anyone out there who feels like it's too late, Marisa’s late bloomer story is a reminder that it never is - and shows us how making peace with your past, committing to reduce your distractions and giving yourself space to connect with your body and inevitably your inner wisdom, just might be what ignites a new kind of relationship to yourself and our life. Her story also reminds us that the best thing you can do to is to live your life the way you feel aligned and use that to inspire change; Trading in judgement for compassion for both ourselves and others who may not yet be living reflective to what you believe in. Because at the end of the day, everyone’s journey needs to start somewhere. If you’re ready for a encouraging conversation about what it means to invite a new kind of energy into your life through the lenses of curiosity, connection, presence and the art of magical moments, I lovingly introduce you to Marisa Ribordy.
