Success is the mark of a hardworking individual. Everyone can be successful; it doesn't matter how far you have fallen or how bad your situation is. The lowest of the low can, with enough dedication and hard work, rise to become the highest of the high. In this week's episode, Kale and Trevor introduce Eric Cline, a successful entrepreneur and experienced salesman. Eric is one of many who were the lowest of the low and is now at his personal high and rising. Eric recounts his early years, where drug and alcohol abuse led to dark and miserable times. From the day where Eric decided to leave that all behind, to rising in success, Eric dives into his mentality and how he overcame the setbacks and challenges he encountered on his rise to success. From being a crackhead to being the GOAT in sales, Eric has insight that you will not want to miss! Video of this podcast is available at YouTube.com/RealBusinessOwners. SUCCESS leaves clues… So do deep rooted INSECURITIES. Just because someone is successful doesn't mean they aren't insecure. The hardest insecurities to spot are usually the ones in ourselves. If you are always CHASING more… I want ANOTHER business… I want MORE money…. I want MORE cars… I want MORE stuff for my kids… MORE projects… MORE everything. Is it because you don't feel like you're ENOUGH? In this solo episode, Kale shares his recent revelations about his journey as a business owner and as a husband and how searching for more isn't always the answer. Rod and Kale meet up for their weekly check in to discuss the aftermath of the red-wave-that-wasn't. They focus their discussion on the sex and age delta and the strange case of abortion politics, post Roe. The truly post-Christian landscape emerges more clearly as the under 30 cohort show deep left preferences. Obama's "Life of Julia" campaign was a winning pitch. They tack from election talk to a discussion about cultural transmission, and the cut-off for the rising generations. People are more malleable the less they feel attached to an inheritance. Ultimately, stories and narrative are vital to any hope for a renaissance of enchantment. We must reconnect. Dr. Drew Ramsey is a psychiatrist, author and farmer. He is one of psychiatry's leading proponents of using dietary change to help balance moods, sharpen brain function and improve mental health. He is the author of four books concerning food and mental health (including the hilariously titled ‘50 Shades of Kale') and his latest book is called ‘Eat to Beat Depression and Anxiety'. This was a fascinating conversation where the Doc and I discussed the variables and relationships that exist around diet, lifestyle, brain function and mental health. Specifically, we chatted about the correlation between gut health and brain health and bibbidi-bobbidi-boo (insert magic wand emoji)… guess who's now drinking kombucha! You know Dave Asprey. He's the father of biohacking, a bestselling author and serial entrepreneur – and he is proud to be leading the charge against Kale. Dave unmasks the popular health food as expensive, bitter, and toxic – but it's far from the only thing to catch heat from this world class truth teller today. We hear all about his new clean coffee brand, Danger Coffee, which is produced with strict anti-mold protocols and enriched with important minerals that are both not seen in most processed, popular American foods and which are actively removed from our systems by harmful ingredients and chemicals. Dave rails against the systematic decline in testosterone across young men, a concerning trend that has ripples throughout every level of society. We hash out the science of soil, why mineral depletion plays such a big part in widespread sickness and disease. And we also learn of his latest high-tech biohacking projects, where he's deploying AI to train our brains, and bodies, with less time and effort required by traditional methods. Mitochondria and mold are two more hot topics as Dave weaves science and levity into his vast life experience for a direct and to-the-point delivery of the facts. He's right, we don't need to be scared. We need to be informed. It's November! What should you be doing in the garden this month? Is there anything to even be doing? Let's talk gardening in November, based on your zone you may need a more ardent winterizing strategy than others. You should always know your hardiness zone! Find it here at Hoss University. The Basics of Gardening In November - for every zone Bring tender plants inside, and cover vulnerable plants (remember to take off when the threat of frost passes so they do not overheat) Clean out annual vegetables and flowers. Some may harbor disease, pests, and funguses. Many bacteria and pest eggs can overwinter in debris, and they will take over your healthy plants once spring arrives. Remove weeds: Like plants, weeds left in the garden through winter can host many pests eggs, and pathogens. Soil Test: Nutrients: Lime, Potassium, Phosphorus, Nitrogen Amend your soil for Spring: Manure, compost, and organic fertilizers Plant Cover Crops: Helps prevent soil erosion, break up compacted areas, increase levels of organic matter, add nutrients Replenish Mulch: Helps regulate soil temperatures and moisture, and protects crops from frost, added mulch breaks down, and incorporates fresh organic material into the soil. Tarp Clean and Sharpen Tools: Shut off irrigation systems when a freeze is indicated Zone 9 The weather is mild in USDA plant hardiness zone 9, and gardeners can grow nearly any delicious vegetable without the worry of hard winter freezes. All of November: Still plant your cold crops: Brassicas(transplants), Direct seed Spinach, Mustard, Turnips, Carrots, Beets, Radishes, Rutabagas, English Peas, lettuce, Kohlrabi, Kale, Strawberries, Elephant Garlic, Onion Starts, Plant till the end of November. USDA Zone 8 First of November: Still plant your cold crops: Brassicas(transplants), Direct seed Spinach, Mustard, Turnips, Carrots, Beets, Radishes, Rutabagas, English Peas, lettuce, Kohlrabi, Kale, Strawberries, Elephant Garlic, Onion Starts, Plant till end of November. Cover Crops Zone 7 Cole crops like Brussels sprouts, cabbage, broccoli, collards, and kale are made sweeter by frost so harvest them as long as possible. You can also use a cold frame or put up a low tunnel to extend the season. Last chance to plant garlic! Be ready with blankets/ floating row cover fabric for covering lettuce and other half-hardy crops during the first hard freeze. The end of the month should be consistently cold enough to start applying a 2-4” layer of protective mulch Zone 6 First of November sow seeds directly outdoors for spinach, and Swiss Chard. Winterize irrigation systems, Frost protection material on hand. Product of the Week Onion Plants Watch the Complete Show on YouTube Below: https://youtu.be/AOFcgGiZMIc

Together, we relax and celebrate the 12th anniversary of The Permaculture Podcast with Scott Mann. Erin Harvey, and I met one another and became friends in 2010 when we took our Permaculture Design Course with Ben Weiss and Dillon Naber Cruz in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. After graduating, Erin returned to Ohio to begin her own farm, The Kale Yard. Erin was one of the first guest on the show, back in early 2013, when we talked about how she started The Kale Yard. If you haven't heard that, you'll find a link to that interview in the show notes. Today, we talk about how life has changed over the last decade, including The Kale Yard transitioning from a Market Garden to a nursery business, and Erin's current role as a farmers market manager and what that means for both her, the farmers, and the community they serve. We also spend some time on her interest in propagating figs and other plants; the role of a hoop house and greenhouse on her farm; and what Erin sees in her future.
